Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut is pretty good?
The Donner cut is okay but it suffers from being piecemealed, everything with Luthor, (since he didn't get reinvented as a buisnessman until about 10 years later) and having the reverse time ending again. And like the first film, is just really dated in terms of the world and the effects.
Can we just get that Superman in a modern film with modern effects? Wonder Woman basically hit that tone, and Captain America got the character right.
I'll see it to give it the fair chance that every movie deserves. But I've been so busy I still need to see Thor, so I dunno when.

All signs point to this again not being a movie for me. Come ON DC, I want your properties to be good movies! I love your franchises!
I considered making the half-hour trip and shelling out the $15~ for an Island 16 showing, then figured that this isn't worth a comfortable movie experience.
So, critic reviews are still embargoed until Friday, and even Rotten Tomatoes is being forced to hold its reviews until after midnight Thursday.
That is a bad, baaaaaaad sign of no confidence from the studio that's desperate to get as much out of the opening weekend as possible because they think it won't have legs. It is ALWAYS bad when they embargo reviews until the day of.
Theres plenty of reviews already out, you just need to find them "manually" at the respective news outlets' webpages. And as far as I can see, the Rotten Tomatoes score goes live tonight.
Not much of a difference, but if people are curious theres already plenty of articles decrying the movie as an uneven, Frankenstein'd mess, and a lot of "- but the characters are fun!" going around.
That seems to be the general consensus: Terrible villain, filmsy as hell story, giant plotholes, thematic shallowness, subpar effects (including distracting de-beardification of Cavill)…but fun character banter!!!
Fuck. I really really really don't want that to be the bar for blockbuster success going forward. Even the MCU, much as I love them, are starting to push it in terms of relying on character affectation.
“But the characters are fun!” is how a lot of subpar MCU movies have good Tomatometer scores (Thor, Iron Man 3), so I wouldn’t worry too much.
Iron Man 3 is one of the best MCU movies, and I will stand by that. It has contrivances galore, but is also thematically strong, and bucks the trend of what Iron Man can face (no Iron Man Suit vs Evil Iron Man suit!). Plus, it features actual character development for Tony; well, as long as you ignore the subsequent movies. For all the joys of continuity, the movies have a bad habit of ignoring the dramatic/character moments of their predecessors (See also: Ant Man is out of jail, and has reconnected with his daughter!–>next movie: Ant Man has a glorified cameo, is sent to jail, and his daughter isn't mentioned, ever!)
Iron Man 3 was fine and it works as a movie. It was just, for better or worse (your mileage will vary) not what anyone expected or wanted from it. If you wanted Lethal Weapon or Kiss Kiss Bang Bang you were in luck. If you wanted guy in iron suit fights guy with magic alien rings, it was not at all what you were hoping for.
Iron Man 2 on the other hand was exactly what people wanted but was a completely thrown together rushed mess that was basically just a long setup for Avengers and no one really likes, they just accept it and gloss over it because it was part of the training wheels phase one and because Avengers followed immediately after.
If they did IronMan 3 again now they could probably do magical Mandarin, now that Doctor Strange and Thor 3 have opened up that creative space, but it'd also be a little weird now.
Trevor is goddamn amazing and the best part of the entire Iron Man trilogy but Kingsley played the fake Mandarin so great that I wish there was an alternate version of the movie with him being the actual villain.
I think whether or not you like IM3 hinges on how much you are willing to accept the Trevor Slattery twist.
Personally I was all for it because the movie overall felt great, but I recognize that I am not too personally attached to Comic Book Mandarin, and I get how someone can be disappointed in not getting an accurate comic book representation of a character they really like and have been wanting to see on screen for a while.

Suicide Squad… it's not worth the watch if you're expecting a decent movie. You won't be missing anything important by skipping it. It just had a couple very short and minor appearances by Batman and flash. Short as in one line scenes. Man it's just so... mediocre? Coming from someone who ignored the reviews and bought the movie lol
I watched a screening of JL on Monday, and while it’s certainly not perfect I really enjoyed it. The characters are easily the best part. Steppenwolf is a disposable villian, he’a basically there to make the team come together. It is much better than Suicide Squad and BvS in my opinion. I feel like JL had some pacing issues but overall it is a fun movie. I’d give around a 7.6 out of 10 if I had to rate it.

Pretty much the problem. Twist was brilliant, but the "character" he played was a legitimate solid update of the Mandarin and really, really worked, much better than the actual villain. Even the pieces they dropped of it being a "show piece" because he was taking from all sots of different things still worked.
While it has problems sure, the critics on youtube all seemed to have enjoyed the movie. Seems like a good time, cause the characters together work very well. That‘s all I needed from this first JL movie atleast, considering the troubles it had. Now with Aquaman, WW2, the batman and so on, I hope they finally step their game up big time.

Just saw the movie and I liked it. Will write my thoughts down later as I'm quite tired.
Still no clue where anyone ever got the idea Whedon was a feminist. Well, besides from Whedon talking about how much of a feminist he is.
Because on Buffy he did a tv show full of strong independant female characters that kicked ass during a time where there wasn't much like that on TV except maybe Xena. So he was clearly a feminist because he wrote such strong female characters.
As long as you ignored the incredibly bad relationships the characters had, how they were always consistently punished for having sex, ignore how badly treated the "whore" was on Firefly, and don't look at Dollhouse at all.
That aside he is a super talented writer and very good at what he does. And he needs to write more musicals.
Leaks are abound, in particular the revival of Superman. The CG is bad. The Flash has more impressive CG. The film really should've been delayed. The music scoring is also terrible. It'S lIkE eVeRy oThEr AcTiOn HaS a NeW nOtE.

My thoughts on the movie (beware of spoilers):
! Justice League feels like a big departure from the darker BvS. There is quite a bit of humor in the film and it is actually funny, you can really see that Whedon was involved. The chemistry between the cast is absolutely fantastic and you can feel that they were having a good time while filming this move. I really liked the Flash, Aquaman and (to my surprise) Cyborg. Batman and WW were also good. But I think the best character in this movie is Superman. After his dark and broody phase in the last two installments of the Snyder Trilogy he feels like a beam of sunshine in this movie. He smiles, his suit looks very bright and seems to be having a good time. The revival makes sense in-universe and while we have to deal with a generic "I have been revived and I'm evil" plot it is luckily restricted to one action scene. Alfred is also good. Nearly every character has jokey bits, even Batman. The action was okay in this movie and I reelly liked that Btamna actually failed quite a bit in this movie. I did not want to see the Batgod. The Parademons also looked good.
! Steppenwolf was a generic henchman villain who served his purpose. He does not really have a real motivation outside of making Earth part of Darkseid's empire and he seems to be quite insane as he called the Mother Boxes his Mother and that remined me of the Martha scene. He is not really good but not really bad. He is quite strong and a little bit intimidating. But his CG was not good. Honestly, who was expecting Steppenwolf, one of the most unrecognizable New Gods, to be a good villain? I did not so I was not disappointed in that regard. He is generic and serves his purpose.
! Another thing that is generic is the plot of this movie but that was also clear because most team-up movies do not really have a great plot. It is a simple "we have to save the world" kind of plot.
! The movie's pacing is quite fast as they do not really waste time with a lot of exposition and jump from A to B quite fast and this is probably due to the fact that the movie's runtime was cut down to 2 hours.
! So overall the movie is fine in my opinion. It is fun, the characters are good (bar Steppenwolf) and I had a good time. Then again I have liked every DCEU movie except for SS so I am not part of the audience they had to impress with this movie. They really should have started production after they saw how BvS was received and not the day the movie was released. I really liked it but I really hope Snyder is done with the DCEU. He has tried it three times but his DCEU movies were not able to become critically acclaimed.

what stops them from inflating the score to look better
1: WB Doesn't Wholly own RT, they own 30% of Fandango which owns RT. They don't have enough clout to flat out make stuff up but playing with when and how they release the score is apparently doable. Outright influencing the scores probably would be too much.
Even if they were that bold however, it wouldn't work anyway since:
2: RT is a Review Agregate, not a review site in its own right.
What that means is that, the Tomatometer score you see is based on going all over the web and taking SEVERAL reviews, in the case of the more popular movies that's hundreds of them, and averaging all the good ones and bad ones vs the total to get their number.
If they made up a fake number, it would get called out in a heartbeat. Especially because they show you lower down blurbs from ALL of the reviews they cited to get their number, along with the name of the reviewer and the publication their review was posted to.
Either they'd have to fake the number at the top but leave the blurbs intact, so simply counting all the "Rotten" and "Fresh" reviews in the blurbs and doing the math would show they faked the number at the top.

They actually fake some of the blurbs. They would either have to invent a bunch of reviews, and you'd need a LOT to counteract a bad score and get it up, which means faking peoples' names, and faking publications (Newspapers/Websites) they got posted on. Plus, that would inflate the "Total Reviews" number, so instead of the ~250 reviews DC movies usually get, you'll see JL getting ~400+
That is unless they just claim real reviews from real reviewers are "Fresh" when really the reviewer intended it to be "Rotten"… but again, with the sheer numbers they'd have to do this on to tip the percentage...
Basically, there are WAY too many factors here. It wouldn't take long for someone to notice any of the numerous red flags, Bullshit would rightly be called, and WB would be in major shit.
UPDATE: About 6 hours before the first East Coast showings start, RT has finally put the % up on their website and it's even lower now lol.

Two important things to know before watching this movie:
-There are two post-credit scenes
-This is Justice League part 1, meaning it's incomplete and you don't feel satisfied in the end. The film doesn't really stands on its own.
Also, it should have lasted 30more minutes to let it breathe at little bit
I know there's no fair way to compare movie attendance with streaming numbers, but if Netflix's Punisher gets more attention than JL this weekend, I will forever be amused by it.
Honestly, I liked Suicide Squad more than BvS because… at least Suicide Squad got (most of) the characters correct.
Small liberties were taken, but Deadshot overall felt like Deadshot, Boomerang felt like Boomerang, Amanda Waller REALLY Felt like Amanda freaking Waller.
It might be asking too much for me to enjoy the story of Justice League, but the reviews are often citing the characterization and especially banter between the characters as a particular high point, so I'm hoping I leave it like I left Suicide Squad at least?
Garbage Story but I at least feel like I got to see the characters I love on the big screen FINALLY?!

I love Yooka Laylee. Absolutely love it. It's flawed as all hell and I get why a lot of people didn't like it. Don't care, love it. Them hating it doesn't mean I can't.
I also like: Zelda: Skyward Sword, Hook, Ghostbusters 2016, Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Revenge of the Sith. I even like Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and I actually really Dislike Temple of Doom.
Yes, on my Indy list, Crystal Skull outranks Temple of Doom, which is dead last.
I also thought Mighty No. 9, Paper Mario Color Splash, and Star Fox Zero (after finally getting used to the awful controls) were at least decent if nothing spectacular. I don't loathe them like the critics and the Internet tells me I'm supposed to.

These two things are hated?? We live in a strange world…I just watched Hook recently. It's such a charming, enjoyable film, with a pretty cool story premise and great performances by Robin Williams and especially Dustin Hoffman as Hook. Plus, the score is severely underrated.
