Pretty sure her most recent movie she uses a gladius and even decapitates plenty of people with it.
A gladius, as in… exactly what she has in that poster, and not at all a big sword?

I don't know what type of weapon it is in the movie, but its not big.
Seriously do yourself a favor and watch the 2009 Wonder Woman movie. It's actually very very good. And she uses a sword quite a bit.
It's hard to tell exactly how long the sword is in the trailer cause its aimed partially forward. But its definately close to the size of the sword in the poster than to a big ass sword.
@Cyan:
It's a gladius you morons.
When you say "gladius" all emphatically it just brings to mind this.
It may have nothing to do with the sword but I still found it contrarily funny.
–------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for the sword's length it's fine as long as she knows how to use it and she's Wonder Woman, so she knows how to use it.
@Cyan:

What Cyan said.
Not at really. She uses a gladius. A gladius is a type of Greek sword. Diana is a Greek Amazon, so it makes sense for her to specialize in Greek weaponry. Not to mention, she tends to wield a shield with it (which she uses as a weapon just as much as her sword). It's a short blade, but it allows for swift combat. And swift combat for someone has strong as Wonder Woman can be quite deadly.

…...................... I'll just go crawl inside a hole now
pats head Careful what you say on a board full of geeks.
DC blinked and we get Batman vs Superman 2 months early. EVERYBODY WINS!!!
And there's like 9 more movies coming out!
It was bound to happen lol.
And yeah it's actually win-win. No shame in this.
I woulda preferred them to go head to head. (I know it was never gonna happen)
Yes, Bats/Supes would probably have made a little more opening weekend and possibly overall based on the characters, but it would have destroyed any claims at big success and maybe made them reconsider the dark gritty route they're continuing to lumber forward with.
Because I absolutely fucking hated Man of Steel and I won't be seeing the next film if it even smells anything at all like it and reeeeally don't want DC making that and Dark Knight their only house style for their movies for the next 10-20 years.
Also, its pretty telling that DC are the unconfident ones who blinked.

Its not a matter of unconfidence than it is simple business, DC NEEDS Batman vs Superman to be a hit more than Marvel needs Cap 3 to be a hit. If they went head to head both films would lose some of the box office share to the other. Marvel could afford the hit while DC has dragged their feet and can't at this stage.
Seems like only yesterday DC was lamenting the reasons for why Green Lantern bombed badly now all of sudden Superhero movies can get their release dates bumped up early.
Its not a matter of unconfidence than it is simple business,
Marvel had the date first, and they put their movie in the same slot. Now they're backing off.
They blinked and aren't as confident as they were a few months ago.
Plus, they've been able to get fan reaction to the early stills and start seeing dailies at this point.
They were always going to move off the date, DC needs Bamtan vs Superman to be a mega hit like Avengers to propel their own cinematic universe going forward. Marvel has had hit after hit after hit, so if Cap 3 suffered a little bit due to the conflict or worse was even a flop, it wouldn't be a big deal for Marvel.
DC can't afford this being a flop or everything goes out the window.
Wouldn't it just be hilarious if Marvel pushed back their date to March too just to fuck with DC?

I understand the reasons they moved.
THE POINT IS. MARVEL ALREADY HAD THAT DATE.
THEN DC put their movie onto the same date. INTENTIONALLY CHOOSING IT after the fact, in order to compete with Marvel. Not the week before or after, they CHOSE the same date. They were saying "we're bigger and better and more confident, we think you'll move."
And now they flinched. They thought they could beat out Cap. Then Cap 2 did great and MOS did not as amazing as they hoped, and they've decided they're not that confident anymore.
A movie with Batman AND Superman AND Wonder Woman and they're the ones that flinch first… after making the challenge in the first place.
Also don't forget, originally they were going to do MoS2, then lead into a Justice League thing. But, creatively MoS backfired. It made money sure, but thats purely from being one of the biggest icons in need of a movie, the big fight scenes, and coming off Dark Knight and plastering Nolan's name all over it. But then reactions were SO mixed, (Even if you liked it, you have to admit its been divisive at best) and they knew they had lost so much goodwill, that a second film wouldn't do nearly as well on its own, so they changed it to the Batman crossover instead.
And moved the fate after Cap 2 did fantastic.
Similarly, Sony is backpeddling their plans too after Spidey 2 didn't go over so hot. and admitting "Okay, maybe announcing all this stuff ahead of time was a little too ambitious and we don't REALLY know what we're doing... but uhm, we have a Sinister Six movie coming! And maybe Venom!"
The US comic franchises both need to die and then get resurrected. And never use Superman, Batman or any other aged, bloated and rotted superhero storytelling ever again.
The manga/Anime franchise is still doing fine, even as it enters a silver age at least. Both DC and Hollywood passed that age decades ago.
Just looked at Box Office Mojo. Don't know about the site's reputation, but I was definitely surprised to learn Man of Steel apparently only did on par with the latest Thor and Captain America. Superman, the most iconic superhero in the world, doing on par with Marvel's sorta-kinda less-known superheroes!?

Calm down
and whether people liked it or not, WB was very happy with MoS. If they weren't, they wouldn't use the same director and that Goyer guy. The movie did good for a reboot. Batman Begins didn't make nearly as much as its sequels.
The manga/Anime franchise is still doing fine.
In America?
And I think you mean "market" not franchise.

Didn't know Captain America had gone down in the world in relevance.
DC's handling of Justice League MoS 2never stops being funny.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the comment "The Manga/anime franchise…enters a silver age at least".
What in the world does that even mean?

I assume it's something like "the Silver Age of Batman" or something I guess
@Cyan:
Shut up.
Damn, beat me to it.
I know what "silver age" means (had to google it to make sure). However, I'm trying to figure out what exactly dictates this "current" era as the dawning of the "silver age of manga/animation" which completely eludes me. Heck, how can you even label something that is "contemporary" to be part of a "silver age"? That makes no sense whatsoever.
This is going to be stuck in my head all day.
The US comic franchises both need to die and then get resurrected.
Well, that shouldn't be a problem, comics seem to love pulling that stunt!

They're happy with it but the point is basically that MoS didn't really give them the confidence booster they needed to really say that the DC movie franchise as a whole can compete mano a mano with the Marvel franchises. That's kinda the whole point Robby's going for, that in spite of selecting a date that Marvel had originally set, they realized that, based on audience reception of MoS and the divisive opinions it garnered, they can't just can't go head-on against the third installment of a well received hero.
Yeah but at the same time I'm assuming they didn't expect the movie to make as much as Avengers. I could be wrong but if they really did expect to make that amount then yeah you guys are definitely right lol. At the end of the day however it is a good thing that they moved. It was best for both movies.

It's not really about making as much as Avengers but just a matter of making enough to compete with Cap'n. Like setting the same date as Cap'n 3 is basically saying "Hey, BvS is gonna be the movie to beat. Try us." But then they realized that that was a stupid idea.
Calm down

They were content with what it made, because yes, it made money. But factoring in the film's budget, advertising, how big a known worldwide icon Superman is, and just how much way has already been paved for Superhero movies now… Man of Steel made most of its money worldwide (China has become a MUCH bigger market in the last 10 years) ... but domestically it only made a little more than Superman Returns, and thats after factoring in inflated prices and 3D tickets.
It made its money, but it didn't leave an impression that would be positive for follow ups... and even then it made less than they expected. In several interviews they said they were expecting it to make about a billilion, to which its comes a good 350 million short... AND they were not happy with how divisive it's been. They know when opinion is that mixed, that the sequel is going to drop... which is why they've scrambled and reshuffled their plans so haphazardly.
I know Marvel breathed a little sigh of relief because it's good for both films that they're not opening on the same weekend. They would have taken large chunks of money out of each others hands. Obviously someone was going to move no matter what unless they were some kind of stupid and it just so happens DC blinked first in their game of chicken.
The bad part of this is that we can't wash our mouths of Batman v. Superman's bad taste with Cap 3 immediately.
I want all comic movies to do well. Its good for the industry and almost everyone wins.
I just want this to fail badly so we can maybe finally get a real Superman movie in 10 years.
For the first time since 1978 and 1980.

But factoring in the film's budget, advertising... it didn't come close to their expectations. Man of Steel made most of its money worldwide... but domestically it only made a little more than Superman Returns, (and that was considered a complete bust. ) and thats after factoring in inflated prices and 3D tickets, and almost half its profit was made opening weekend... it had no legs or word of mouth. (Yes, most films make a large chunk of their money opening weekend, but if they have any legs its 1/4-1/3 of their final total... not half.)

Yeah but at the same time I feel like the criticism is mostly on the internet. Most of the casual audience LOVED the movie. Just look at the blu ray sales. The movie made a lot through blu ray sales alone. It might not have had legs but look at all the movies that were released that month alone. World War Z came out the next week I believe. I know this doesn't mean it applies everywhere, but everyone I know that saw it loved it. I can almost guarantee you that if BvS was just MoS 2 it would have made more money than MoS. Don't forget that before the movie even came out WB made $170 million from all the advertisers like Sears that wanted their company to appear in the movie.

I just want it to fail badly so we can maybe get a Superman movie in 10 years.
Ok that's just ridiculous
Yeah but at the same time I feel like the criticism is mostly on the internet. Most of the casual audience LOVED the movie.
And Transformers. Don't forget Twilight. Or Avatar, the highest grossing film of all time. Or The Last Airbender. That made 300 mill, double its budget, and that was after being universally reviled!
Sales alone don't mean a movie was any good. It just means a lot of people saw it, some going in blind or hopeful, some content with just dumb action, or in twlight's case, fully aware its bad and being amused by that
55% on Metacritic, which includes professional critics and audiences alike. 56% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Ok that's just ridiculous
If this makes big money, they keep making crap in the exact same vein for a decade. (Ala Transformers) If it flops, or only does okay, they back off, look at what went wrong, and try again in a few years with a clean plate and a new set of writers and directors and a shot at doing it much better. The current crew? Won't make a good Superman movie. They have a complete lack of understanding of the character and what it should be.
Bruce Timm and Paul Dini? Those guys get it. They announce the current team is off the film and they're getting the animated guys on board? I'd be okay with it and be 100% behind it and hopeful. Continuing with dark and broody Goyer and all flash-no-substance Snyder? Blech.
Robby is fairly right about this though. The problem though isn't about them getting Superman's tone wrong (which in itself is an irritating problem), but the fact that they think that this gloomy Nolan Batman grumpiness "sells" which will paint how the rest of the DC movies should be like. And considering how they have 9 movies lined up, it will be pretty goddamn boring and lame if all 9 films pretty much pulls off the same "grumpy moodiness" like Man of Steel. Heck, the only reason why it worked for Batman is because that's pretty much aligns with his character, but not at all with Superman. At least with Marvel, it's fairly light-hearted and fun so it's pretty much easier to go with the flow and enjoy it for what it is (even if it does have flaws and lack overall substance like the Avengers). However with GRUMPY BROODINESS, it feels like they're trying too hard to squash some pretentious writing in your face (like Man of Steel…UGH).
So if this actually succeeds, the writing staff will allocate most of them time trying to figure out how to make the DC super heroes "edgy, dark, and gritty" which would get really old...really fast (especially if it conflicts with the theme/motif like SUPER MAN). A brooding Flash movie? Ugh, no thanks.
Uggh. I hadn't even considered the fact that this tone is going to carry for 9 other films. I was just thinking of the poor not-Superman movies.
I don't really want to imagine dark and broody Shazam who feels that sometimes its okay to let a bus full of children drown.
In several interviews they said they were expecting it to make about a billilion
Damn that sounds like a like a lot of bread:ninja:.
How would they ever get The Rock to act dark and edgy without it coming off as incredibly cheesy and hilarious anyway
How the fuck can they make a DARK and MOODY movie called "Shazam"?
"Who are you!?"
"I AM SHAZAAAAAAM!!!!"
or Black Adam
The more you think about it, the more perfect The Rock is to play Captain Marvel.
@Cyan:
How the fuck can they make a DARK and MOODY movie called "Shazam"?
They make the kid all angry and pissed off all the time and completely unlikeable, so that when he transforms its all revenge instead of joyful superheroing. Toss in Black Adam killing lots of people and being generally nasty.
Its what the comics did in New 52. Made him absolutely awful.
So yes, that actually IS the direction they think the character should go for modern audiences, as recently as 3 years ago, and not just me being sarcastic.
I'm not saying every superhero film needs to be as charming as Meteor Man. But. Gotta have SOME fun and good in the heroes dammit.
Captain Marvel to DC after watching Man of Steel.
Shazam will be the light in the sea of darkness. The Rock which will withstand the brooding around it.
@Purple:

Doom tried and it was terrible no cheese or laughs to be had there.

Could easily see Billy being a troubled kid who gets superpowers and turns into a superdick.

lol I agree 100%

Captain Marvel to DC after watching Man of Steel.
Boy was it weird watching Superman being talked to like that by his identical twin.
