Yeah well imagine my surprise when I'm looking for synthpop to listen to and keep putting off listening to Gary Numan because I think he's "that guy from the Toy Story soundtrack".

Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...

So Jenny Lewis and a few of her friends formed a new band called Nice As Fuck. Can't really find any videos of their first concert besides a 10 second long Instagram video though. Want to know what they sound like.
These Coachella sets are better than I was expecting, and mostly the ones I weren't even expecting to watch. Miami Horror, Christine and the Queens, St. Germain, and Sufjan were all fantastic. The Kills were also good.
Edit: Underworld were also fantastic and LCD Soundsystem were really good too. Hope someone uploads some rips for these sets because I want to watch them again.
I came across a great website.
http://www.whosampled.com/
It's easy to use; basically, you enter the name of a random music artist, say Kendrick Lamar, for example (the database is huge, you can find anybody), in the search bar, which will lead you to discovering which tracks he has sampled.
In music, sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or a sound recording in a different song or piece (Wikipedia).
!
Simply click on the "sampled" play button, and you'll appear here:
!
Which will allow you to compare both tracks.
Today marks the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds; one of the most important and influential rock albums ever recorded. An ambient and artistic achievement, Pet Sounds marked a decided departure from the Beach Boys' studio-mandated "surf rock" sound in favor of more experimental and symphonic sounds that still hold up even to this day. The album has influenced countless musicians, including Roger Waters, Fleet Foxes, Jesus and Mary Chain, Nick Drake, Primal Scream, Radiohead, and of course The Beatles who, in response to the album, released Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Paul McCartney in particular has stated his great admiration for the album, calling one of its stand-out hits "God Only Knows" the best song ever written.
So, if you're familiar with the album, be sure to give it another listen today. And if you've never heard the album before, well…what're you waiting for?!
Believe it or not, it's not the only classic album that was released that day:

Does anyone know some good Halloween music?
I know the soundtracks from Harry Potter and anything-Tim-Burton are great for this time of the year.
@Zar:
Does anyone know some good Halloween music?
If you're interested in instrumental music:
From Ren & Stimpy production music:
-Spooky Scherzo
-Saw Theme
-Terror by Night
-Graveyard
-Inferno
-Voodoo Victim
Classical Music:
-Night on Bald Mountain
-Toccata and Fugue
-Romeo and Juliet: Montagues and Capulets (Dance of the Knights)
-Danse Macabre
If you want songs with lyrics, well…a lof of these may seem obvious but...
-Monster Mash
-Thriller
-Ghostbusters Theme
-Anything by Voltaire
-Heavy Metal in general if that's your thing
If it doesn't have to strictly be about Halloween you could listen to goth rock and maybe industrial music. They're generally fairly creepy and fit the mood. Cabaret Voltaire, Clan of Xymox, Fields of the Nephilim, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, or some more common stuff like the Cure, Bauhaus, etc.

It's been a while since I listened so some good rock, so I'll definitely check some of those out.
The only halloween-esque rock (I think) band I know would be Birthday Massacre.
Does anyone know any songs that are like Through The Fire And Flames by DragonForce?
^I imagine you have tried listening to other power metal. What specifically about that song (if other power metal doesn't fit the bill) do you like that people could use to base recs off of?
I just found out that What.cd was shut down. Shame, because they had a lot of stuff that would probably be hard to find anywhere else. At least I got my fair share of rare music from it before it went away.

Hm, try some other Dragonforce songs from the same album? In terms of virtuosity and speed concerning keybords and guitars they are quite unmatched. I can't think of anything with a similar intensity right now aside from the Children of Bodom album Hate Crew Deathroll.

Yes did try find more Power Metal Songs a few months ago,What i like about Through The Fire And Flames is that it was Epic and had ton of Electric Guitars

Oh yes I listen to all the DragonForce songs,my other favorite song of DragonForce was their Ring Of Fire Cover Song
I've got a bit of a question.
From what I've read, Bob Dylan is apparently super influential in the history of rock, so I thought I'd listen to some of his albums.
So far, I've listened to Blonde on Blonde, Freewheelin', and Highway 61 Revisited. The thing is… I can't seem to get into his music? I don't know if maybe I'm not listening to it correctly. I really would like to enjoy his music if I can, and I know sometimes it takes a bit of listening to appreciate some genres of music (it took me a while to finally get used to some of the heavier post-punk), but I still can't find myself interested in Bob Dylan no matter how many times I put his albums on.
His genre is folk rock right? Like Donovan maybe? But I thoroughly enjoy listening to Donovan. So any idea what I might be missing?

Yeah, Bob Dylan can tricky to get into, at least in my experience. I had trouble seeing the appeal of him at first too, but, while he's not one of my all-time faves, I do now see why he's earned his spot in rock history (though perhaps he's just a smidge overrated?)
Personally, I find his strongest asset to be his poetic and sometimes bizarre lyrics, Blowin' in the Wind and Desolation Row being prime examples. So yeah, maybe go back and pay attention to lyrics in those and some of his other songs? Other than that, I guess you can just keep listening and maybe it'll eventually click. And if it doesn't, that's perfectly fine. There's no shame in not "getting" a musician's work or style.

Lyrics huh… That might just be it. I've always put albums on while working or drawing so I don't pay a lot of attention to lyrics.
I tried listening closely to a few isolated songs and yeah, I think I'm starting to get it.
I'll have to find some free time to actually listen to his albums in full now. Thanks for the tip! I guess technically there's no shame in getting a musician's work, but I feel like if I can "get" post-punk then anything earlier than that should be easy as pie, so imagine my surprise when something as innocuous as folk baffles me...
I've currently been discovering Japanese variety, jazz and else. YMO and Akiko Yano
And I wish one day I'll be able to do a list of my fav albums

New St. Vincent tour announced. Album announcement and first single should be soon too I imagine.

I discovered them a year or two ago and fell in love pretty quick.

I don't listen closely to lyrics much either, never have.
No there's nothing wrong with that.
But yes it's going to hobble you with certain artists and genres, folk/singer-songwritery stuff is generally more lyrically than sonically focused. So I unno man, perhaps it's just not your cup of tea.
Frankly enjoying Post-Punk and not enjoying Dylan makes a ton of sense, because I'm the same.
Post-Punk is fun because lots of the acts are all about playing around with sound right? Making weird guitar sounds and textures, electronic experiments, dub production techniques, tribal drumming, fusing white as hell cold Anglo music with black as hell Funk… lot of fun!
Then this Bob guy is just singing over harmonica and guitar strumming??? What am I supposed to do with that?
It's just the way some of our ear brains work. Don't sweat it.
I had the opportunity to attend the Life is Beautiful festival in Vegas two weeks ago. It was my first time going to a music festival, at least a big 3 day one similar to Coachella. Very tiring, food and drinks were expensive as hell. I had one craft beer for like 14 bucks and said, fuck this, so I bought weed instead. I saw a total of 14 acts. The line up was insane. A lot of them were already favorites of mine, and I simply fell in love with other bands that I had listened to before but not too much.
I got to see Two door cinema club which I just love. I saw Lorde for a while but wasn't really into her show. Good music, tho. Was a tough decision going to see Blink or Chance since they played different stages at the same time but went for blink since nostalgia is a motherfucker. No regrets. Next day I saw COIN, one of ym favorite up and coming bands. Got to touch the singer lol. After that was, in no order since I forgot now, Broods, which is cool I like how its similar to CHVRCHES with the female singer and male producers, saw Capital Cities which I simply fell in love with, they have a great funky vibe and put on a great show. Saw Cage the Elephant, they were pretty damn awesome.
Saw Muse, which was amazing. Saw PVRIS, which I really liked. That girl can sing. I love the The Cure/Paramore vibe they have going on. Then saw Hippo Campus, one of my favorite bands. Their style is so chill yet upbeat at times and they have great guitars and lyrics. Saw them twice, once in an acoustic up close session then another on a big stage. I saw Dua Lipa, a mainstream female artist that's pretty hot right now. Her music is pretty good, and I like the passion and energy she transmits while performing, singing and dancing live. Got to see Local Natives a second time, first time I saw them they opened for Kings of Leon and I loved their music. And finally got to see my lord and savior Damon Albarn in Gorillaz. I got a really close spot and just absolutely loved everything about it. They kicked off with M1A1 and that is easily the best song they could open a concert with.
Still struggling with the post festival depression. That was way too much for me, seeing big artists one after the other. Felt very surreal. The weed helped lol
Man, haven't seen you post in a while, Gueta. At least in any part I generally check.
I kind of want to go to a festival at some point. I generally don't see too many acts on the posters that I would be really eager to see though for how much money they are, though I'm sure a lot of the smaller acts I hadn't heard of would catch my interest. And my mood would probably be different once I'm there.

I haven't posted, man! It's been a very looong time. I get what you mean. I would normally just think twice before even considering buying such expensive passes, all to just not even buy the pass in the end. However, as soon as the Life is Beautiful festival lineup was announced, I knew I had to go. It was too good for me to pass on, at least for me considering how many bands in that lineup I wanted to see. I didn't even get to see some artists that I wanted to see, like Chance the Rapper or the xx or Kaskade or Tycho or Bonobo, cause they performed at the same time as other acts I saw but in different stages. Had to make a choice often. It was either Haim or the xx, for example.
And yeah, there's just this intense feeling of comradery and bliss when you're at a festival. Literally no worries on your mind, just relax, walk around, see all kinds of awesome concerts and other fun stuff. Everyone is just so happy and no one's an asshole to one another, or at least I didn't witness any of that. You're in your own little world along with the rest of the folks attending the festival. That's all the more reason as to why the post-concert depression is even harsher. Go back to school or work and real life, and you just stick with that 3 day long ride in your mind. It's totally worth it, though.
I hope Kate Bush is inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame.
Hey guys take a look at this Post Malone video. Viewer discretion, its super violent. I don't like this kind of music but I did work on the video. I'm the light skinned katana swinging black dude. You can see me fighting all over but only a few times my face is shown fairly clearly like at 1:53 if you pause lol.
Random thought of the day: Someone needs to hire Alan Menken to compose for their TV show so he can get an Emmy and become an official EGOT (Emmy/Grammy/Oscar/Tony) winner. The man has won so many fucking awards it seems unfair.

They kinda have, but it didn't really pan out

Well, Alan did win a special honorary Emmy Award, though it was non-competitive, so I don't know if it counts.

Apparently it doesn't.
Recently the French have been producing some very good electro songs
and this one should be famous I guess.
I don't think I've ever posted on this section. But man I need more people to discuss this with. It's startling.

I'm a musical layman, but this seems brilliant. Every sound seems well-paced, controlled, and intentional. It makes an impression.

The choir scene made me almost shout at work. I love the amount of articles comes out from this. All the little bits and pieces to analyze. It's an intense video.
Glover is a borderline genius.
Even I didn't really get the whole meaning until like the 3rd watch.
One of the best videos of the year definitely.
Wasn't too much of a fan of the new mewithoutYou EP released a little bit ago (at least on first listen, I'll have to listen to it again) but the album they just released is really good so far. Their last several albums have all been really good actually, after their 2009 album that I saw that a lot of people didn't really like because it was a pretty soft album for them.
Anyone any fans of this
Vibes
POCUPINE TREE REUNION
I saw Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense for the first time. Definitely lives up to the hype. One of the best concerts ever.
So this just won a Grammy and I think it's cool.
Kendrick released his new album. It's great.
