To be fair it's said to be "reaching its climax", not "end" per se. But with the extended pages, new series coming and everything it's following the pattern of other series' endings

To be fair they really did seem to have sped up the pacing on Dr.Stone after Bizarre Brazil Adventures.
-
It does but given Dr. Stones really fast-pace, maybe we should've seen this coming XD
-
Ooof, Ayashimon dropped like a stone, I hope it can come back from that.
-
I can see why a lot of people won't like the main character
-
Sakamoto and PPPPPP in the top half is nice to see.

Earthchild's already in the bottom half by like week 5. Yeah, it's not going to be around for long. Look forward to the desperate style and genre shifts in about two chapters as it attempts anything to find an audience.
-
At least Doron Dororon and Shugomaru! can help it to buy some time.
-
All these manga that hit bottom quickly make me curious… is there any manga that's managed to recover from that? Doesn't have to be the exact scenario Red Hood and Earthchild are in, but basically a new series bombing the first few chapters but then it reinvents itself and recover.
I guess PPPPPP didn't do too well at first (least not as I remember) but it didn't have the same disastrous beginning those two had.
-
@Zar:

Dragonball pretty famously wasn't doing great in its first arc. It was introducing Krillin and the tournament that saved it.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure radically reinvented itself every few years. Look at stands appearing in part 3 completely replacing the previous system and that was clearly something intended to re-energize the franchise and it worked, Part 3 was the part of Jojo everyone recognized and knew before the recent anime came along..
Yugioh originally wasn't about card games. The monster dueling cards was just a single one-off story around ten chapters in that introduced new rival Kaiba (the usual "desperate turn around" spot) then it had another 10 or so chapters of random games before bringing back capsule monsters as a regular feature, and then around chapter 60 committed to card games full time which is where the anime starts, mostly condensing or ignoring the first few volumes.
You can look at the radical shift both YuYuHakusho and Bleach went through after their first bit of time and figure they were on the chopping block for a while until they changed directions to full battle mangas. Their animes didn't even adapt their earliest one off ghost stories either.
Urusei Yatsura had some of that as well. You'd think Lum was the main character but she was actually only in the first chapter, and then it was random one offs for a decent while before she returned and became the lead.
Those are all much older examples and I obviously don't have actual numbers, but you can see how they started and then made sharp turns, and their legacies and eventual longevity speak for them.
-
Kuroko No Basuke was doing bad initially I heard. Back then I wasn't following the rank though I was fully invested in weekly scanlations.
-
Sket Dance was in the bottom 3 after the 8 first chapters during around 3 months and managed to survive.
I'm not sure what happened to Dodon, the first chapters were not that badly received so I wonder what displeased the Japanese. It was the only one that managed to catch me beside Akane in recent titles -
Katekyo Hitman Reborn wasn't doing to well at the start when it was just a gag manga, and then it shifted to Shonen Battle manga and went up in popularity.
I think I heard Undead Unluck also had a bit of a rocky start but when they joined the order peope got more invested.
-
Sket dance would have been doomed without the switch off arc, probably would have managed 2 year publication and be forgotten.
Medaka box you could argue it did a weird pívot, but considering who the author is, and the weird details of the school, it was probably meant to go weird from the beginning, just had to go weird faster and harder than originally intended.
-
Kumagawa saved Medaka Box. A shame the anime didn't go that far.
-
Oh for sure, but introducing him before the school council fight (wait, the protagonists were the school council, who were ball kid and the sister and the little kid and the “I’m the king” guys group were?, there were 6 people on the interesting side, and 6 that got one shooted by Kumagawa on his introduction.. or were there 2 villain groups before kumagawa)

Is SJ on break this week?

it seems jujutsu sales have dropped with this volume. Even with the special edition, it was not that far behind one piece
-
It seems the windfall of it's anime has started to run out. Not unexpected given it's been over a year since it stopped airing (last episode was released March 27, 2021). Sales will probably pick up when the anime returns in 2023.
-
How is Earthchild still going? Wasn't it consistently at the bottom of the rankings even before the forum break?
DId it just switch over to being a battle manga to save itself or what?
-
@Robby lots of bad/mediocre new series lately. And in addition there was another new series, Ruri, that was good (but slice of life ) that had to go on hiatus at chapter 6 or so due to the author's health.
-
Hell Motherhunting Yeah!
Someone go and dig that old thread up please! What a fantastic year. First Berserk resumes and now this. With this all my favorite series are back in action!

https://forums.arlongpark.net/topic/41060/hiatus-x-hiatus-iii-goodnight-sweet-princes/5368?lang=en-US&page=108Thanks. Couldn't find it as I didn't think the last chapter was in 2018. The thread usually gets activated before the series returns from hiatus. But most likely the mods will wait at least a week since they worry about the thread inviting too much negativity when there's no new chapters to discuss.

So that Romantic Killer title...Kinda of a big yikes for me.
