I take pride in knowing I've never read a single chapter of Rave.
Fairy Taint Discussion II

FT should take plants from the island with them. That way they'll have easy access to magic power senzu beans or just turn it into a flying island.
-
I don't think I have anything wrong with Hades being defeated because his heart was in a separate, vulnerable place. That's an established, legitimate way to set up an immortal, invulnerable enemy, but then have him be beatable.
on principle, that is.
In execution, this felt horrible. You know why? because Hades kept on making scared faces and kept on reacting to hits. If he had continued to no-sell, against laxus, against laxus-powered natsu, against all their combined might, then the cats suddenly pulling the plug (which we knew they were trying to do) would be great. "Finally!" we'd say, "Finally this old bastard is actually acting like he can be hurt!"
but like I said, he's been doing this all along, so I don't know why he won't just stand up again, like before.
this was a fight with great action, but terrible pacing and plot. The same could be said for the entire arc, actually. Or all of Fairy Tail. The art is great (tits n fists, all I need) and the action is drawn very well. But the characters are uninteresting, people do things for bullshit reasons, things are revealed and forgotten without warning, and every cliche in the book is thrown in to assure a heroic victory in one arc. god forbid the good guys loose and actually have to develop.
-
@No:
Did you see how Hiro buttfucked the strongest villain in Rave ?
The guy literaly killed all of his soldiers…..for no reason and this super aliance with another evil assasin group and four demon lords and the man with the most powerfull mage in the world.....kinda crumbled before it even started. :getlost:
Hiro is just a bad writer. Arguably one of the worst in recent memory.
-
Yawn .
-
Cover pages look a lot like the One Piece 'decks of the world' pages…
Edit after reading: Wow, what a great chapter… I got goosebumps.... -
Chapters like this almost make me think that Fairy Tail is an elaborate scheme to make the worse manga possible that's still liked, because no one can be this bad unless it's on purpose.
-
It's still better than most of Bleach because something at least happens each chapter. Not by much, though.
-
Not only was this a horrible chapter, but Mashima also blatantly copied this famous move
-
Not going to say much, the chapter sucked, but I'm pirating this shit so why get angry?
One thing I will say is if the power source was Hades heart than why bother hiding it?
I thought that this was actually going to be a thing that was going to affect the plot.
But no, this chapter revealed nothing but a big ketchup stain where Hades heart was.
No I suppose it could be my fault for jumping to conclusions, but when the creator goes out of their way not to show something does that no imply that the something is going to be a big deal? -
Not only was this a horrible chapter, but Mashima also blatantly copied this famous move

Oh right, because an uppercut is such a rarity in any fighting show. XP
I'm half and half on this chapter
Pros: Happy and Charle looking badass as the machine is destroyed. The intrigue of how Meredy will confront Ultear on what Zancrow told her. All of the team, even Laxus, joining in on the beatdown. And the arc nearly being over.
Cons: Just Hades in general, all this build up over how powerful he is and he hardly did any thing to warrant him being as such besides countering and dropping Marakov. Seriously where were the attacks he was displaying in that fight. He got pounded so easily even after going all one winged angel. And was practicably just throwing attacks at the group as if they were baseballs. Plus the whole, keeping his power in one place and drawing from it. Seriously if your gonna make a villain at least don't half heart it. Say what you will about Zero but that guy at least showed a decent fight. This was just phoning it in to its fullest.
Ugh whatever, there still the matter of Zeref and where we go from here. So guess we got that to look forward to.

Good for you. I have promised to drop this shit series at the end of this failure arc and it looks like it ended up as a failure so I am dropping it. No fanservice is enough for me to endure this BS of a series. Mashima is a kubo-tiered level Troll. No perhaps he is an even bigger Troll than Kubo himself.

Because they were misguided bad guys in the Tower of Paradise arc. Most likely they mean their trying to reform from that.
-
Wow that sucked. Generic, boring, predictable Shonen arc ending goooooooo! Mashima can't do a damn thing original with this series. Bullshit deus ex machina victory. The arc had potential, but he blew it big time.
XD I had to come here to post this. Tried on another anime / manga forum and like 5 people freaked cause I was "judging the series" and was too harsh…...I don't even hate Fairy Tail ._. but when I see a crappy chapter I'm gonna say so.

Someone change the title of this thread to "making new friends makes us 100 happier! but right now we're trying to work out some common sense."

lol who was looking at the text in that pic c'mon now… There's a catgirl with an open hoodie/bra combination who is also sucking on a chocolate banana. Get your mind in the gutter.
-
I really with that more shonen heroes these days actually rose to the occasion and to win the day, instead of dragging their "superior" enemy to their pathetic level. Naruto, Bleach, and Fairy Tail all do this and it's annoying.

@Kareem:
Agreed with you on both counts.
TLC, why do you feel this need to be an asshole at least once a month? Do you need, absolutely need, everyone to hate FT and the other series you don't like. Does it make your life better in some way? Do people liking your hated series in some way harm you? What I'm basically saying is: It shouldn't matter. I feel like people should express their honest opinions and not be treated badly for what they feel. Granted I would prefer them to have legit reasons for their opinions but that's neither here nor there.
What I'm getting at here is do you need everyone's opinions to completely assimilate with your own. Do you need everyone to hate Fairy Tail and love Negima, which is your favorite series, the series you love more than life itself (Don't pretend it isn't true. "2nd favorite series". Like Hell.) What matters is that you have your own opinions, and you have your own personal favorite series. If other people show an interest in those series than I can understand being glad that they're interested because you hope they get nearly the experience you got from them. And if they like you're hated series than if you feel an ever pressing need to argue with them about how "YOUR SERIES IS CRAP!!!" Than be just halfway decent about it. Don't be so fuckin' mean-spirited dude.
Btw my post isn't particularly original I've basically just regurgitated a post by Robby somewhere in about page 18 of the Avaturd thread. A post he directed at TLC. You'd think he would've learned by now to be just a little respectful of diverse opinions. Guess not. Not exactly surprising he's not that popular.
It's the hate man, the hate. The hate that has turned into pain. I swear to God I don't randomly pick on people like that. Fairy Tail DROVE me to this. I regret what it has turned me into.
-
sigh….. forgets this arc ever happend zoro style so Mashima are you going to address the dragon plot thingy now ? or more friendship babble?
-
Conversed with a comic book employee today. The resident "manga expert".
She'd read only a volume of Naruto, Negima, Death note, Fullmetal and One Piece, but all of Fairy Tail. That was her favourite. One piece was "too repetitive". I kept my face carefully blank.Anyways, what are the odds those council dudes are going to be totally anal about this and find a way to somehow give FT another finger-waggling.
-
Considering that Volemort was almost literally living in their backyard, the odds are pretty high.

Enough of this drama queen persona you have going here Batter. Get your shit together. You are reading a terrible comic book pirated for free on the internet, yet you present yourself like some self centered asshole that isn't considerate of anyone with the opposing opinion. Hell, you even make moments on this board awkward in where dry hump opinions similar to yours, like if it's a idol made of gold that must be worshiped. You agreeing with me is one of the many things a avoid because it's more for personal gain, rather than a mutual exchange in opinion. It's just THAT annoying.
And look at you now. Crying out in self pity because "Fairy Tail" made you.
Tragic.

From there Hades suffered from a heart attack,
Agreed
Why invite the enemy to your airship, were your (HEART) which has been making you invincible be guarded by knownames
I think hiro miss a huge opportunity to actually develop one his main characters here, intellect wise. Instead of them fighting in the ship they could have fought on the ground first, and then maybe some one like (Gray) could have pull a Shikamaru level of brainpower and figure out hades weakness leading to the HEART being his power source and therefore needed to be destroyed.
I still don’t get how him giving that HEART, meant he has great magic power, yeah having a long life make’ sense, but the former doesn’t.
Maybe is a special HEART.
As bad as mashima is, I don’t think any mangaka can surpass kubo, this guy is the bottom of the pit, heck it doesn’t get lower than kubo.
It seems like nowadays mangakas, are only good at art but writing is another whole issue.

So I was discussing this chapter with someone who quite enjoyed this chapter of Fairy Tail and stated that the victory was NOT strategic, it was deus ex machina. In response they said Luffy was the king of deus ex machina more so than any other manga character. I'm worried that I'm gonna knock myself unconscious with the degree of Facepalm this statement warrents. He says that Dragon saving Luffy at Logue Town was deus ex machina. Robin saving Luffy from Crocodile was deus ex machina.
-
Well what's the difference between a deus ex machina and an asspull?
I mean Dragon saving Luffy doesn't count since we know he's his dad, and it only happened once. If it kept happening every arc or so with no explanation, then maybe. And the worst Robin saving Luffy would be is bad writing if you thought of it that way, but nothing about it is out of nowhere.

Luffy Deux Ex Machina LOL. That person you talked to should get his eyes checked because the only thing luffy did after thriller bark was fail hard. If Deux Ex Machina was on Luffy's Side, then Ace would have not died. Hell even before thriller bark it was a challenge for Luffy to win. He got pwned by Aokiji, got pwned by smoker, lost to Croc several times. Through out his journey, Luffy was easily teetering near the edge of death. I don't think we can say the same with Natsu who gets magical powers out of nowhere and pwn an enemy who is 20x stronger than he is.
-
I dont understand people's dissapointment, after the fire-thunder dragon bullshit we all knew that pretty much this would be the finale.
I know its shitty but I cant say I wasnt expecting this. -
Dues EX Machina is in terms where a character is getting help from an outside source, a higher being, or some powerful unseen force right? It's… not really a bad plot device. It's just commonly used badly, especially if the obtained vision or power is never mentioned agian, never used again, doesn't create progress, or was ever necessary to be bought up.
Gerald's Golden Flames. Gerald helping Erza from prison. Ul getting a vision from her mom her ocean(lol). Lightning Flame Dragon. Dues EX Machina.
If I'm wrong correct me.
-
Just wait and see Laxus' father getting owned by the flame nakama punches hahahahahah.

A deus ex machina can basically be summed up as a seemingly insurmountable problem being instantly solved by a random, often contrived, intervention of some sort.
A random character coming in to save the day can be a deus ex machina but those are generally on the lighter end and can usually be explained in a way that isn't complete BS (some foreshadowing will go a long way with this). Lightning flame dragon on the other hand makes no sense in the context of the mangas lore up to that point nor did it make sense story wise, seeing as how Laxus is (supposed to be) stronger than Natsu. Then there's the whole friendship thing that instantly turns everyone Super Saiyan 4, which at this point is used so often I'm not even sure it counts as a deus ex machina anymore. I think it can official be declared as the strongest form of magic in the Fairy Tail world.
Anyway, deus ex machinas are generally bad as they usually break the world's internal logic.
-
So I guess friendship truly is magic in this series eh?And yeah, this arc was terrible. And why do I have this weird feeling Meldy will join Fairy tail?

Yeah…lol I was kidding around.
I admit and regret for going overboard and acting especially douchey this time (though the chapter really pissed me off) but...I'm not actually gonna blame my entire persona on a shitty comic book.
Now enough of that stupid shit. Let's talk Deus ex Machina.
Luffy being saved by lightning was a Deus ex but it was heavily lampshaded as an act of God, was a reasonable event tied with destiny plus it was explained later that it might have been Dragon who caused the storm.
Natsu's Lightning Form dragon just made no sense in terms of the world logic. Also Hades heart was a deus ex too. An unforeshadowed plot device that conveniently got our heroes out of an impossible jam with the lamest effort possible? Total deus ex.
-
Well what's the difference between a deus ex machina and an asspull?
Deus ex machina tends to be external- Another character jumping in and saving the day for our heroes when all hope is lost.
An "Asspull" tends to be from the main characters/villain themselves. Generally it refers to features or abilities that suddenly appear and solves the problem on hand without any kind of foreshadowing. Keep in mind that having a secret ability itself isn't an asspull if the author has hinted and given clues that the ability exists, it's only an asspull when it appears out of nowhere with no proper explanation.
So example:
Normal main character is thrown into water by villain and suddenly reveals that they are half-fishman and can breathe underwater = asspull
Main character who is always covered up and wears gloves, doesn't like dry climates or heat, suddenly thrown into the water and is revealed to be a fishman = not asspull. -
Luffy being saved by lightning seemed like utter irony for me rather than an actual plot device. But it works within dues-ex too, so I'm not arguing. Nightmare Luffy may seem like dues-ex, especially since using shadows to make a single body stronger wasn't foreshadowed(maybe that's the pun).

Exactly. It tied into the whole theme of destiny. Nightmare Luffy wasn't really a deus-ex because apart from being a logical extension of Moria's power andbeing introduced by people who had years to study Moria's shadows, it didn't really change anything in the end in respect that it wasn't a game finisher. It knocked out Moria for a while and gave the crew time to recover. Had Luffy ended everything then and there, yeah it would have been anticlimactic. But the fact that Oars got back afterwards. And then Moria did using the exact same trick? Nah, not a deus ex. Not really.
Okay.

It's the pain. THE PAIN!!!
But seriously, I regret and apologize for being a whiny little bitch. I've been ruining everyone's fun. I'll try to be better from now on.
Peace out, bragh.

The conclusion: will something be counted as a nice surprise and a twist or a cheap asspull and plot armor at its cheatest is determined by manga's credit history.
With Kuma saving Strawhats we knew it was not an asspull. Oda has planned everything and explained it later. He already proved himself more than once so we accepted it. It was already tied in.
With anything in Fail Tail we know it's asspull and cringe 'n' flinch. Mashima rarely ever explains and they always happen in the most convenient time and never again. He showed it every arc so we don't trust him.
In gag manga anything can happen with no explanation - everything is for laughs. In shounen manga world is working under rules, and they must be followed for story do be entertaining. Bleach is a gag manga, Fail Tail proclaims itself as shounen. -
Mashima hides behind the word "magic" way too much and it's the biggest asspull ever. He uses it as an excuse not to explain anything and tries to use artwork to hide his lack of story cohesiveness.
-
^Thats pretty much the case… He thinks with the word magic you can pull out of your ass anything..
-
Jesus, is it possible to be more cliche than Fairy Tail? I don't think it is. Mashima does absolutely everything by the book.

You are Hiro Mashima. As you sit atop your bed with a Sakura Cardcaptor bedsheet and pillow, you wonder if you ever have the time to satisy your morning wood. Unfortunately you are mangaka that has to work day and night with no time to bathe, look up porn, or pleasure yourself. You then look at your clock. It's 6:25 AM. That's about 15 minutes you have slept for. Longest sleep you have in years. You stretch and get up to get ready for work.
Your room has four walls. No doors. No windows. Well, you could have those things if they weren't completely blocked with bookshelves. One side has a collection of manga, in which you occasionally look for ideas to copy… if any. With the little amount of sleep you get, thinking of good story even through copying is a great and impossible feat. The rest of the bookshelves have figurines from all your favorite ecchi manga/anime. With all the money you make, you'd think that it should be spent on something. Not only are they nice to look at and talk to from time to time, they make excellent reference for suggestive angles in your hit series, Fairy Tail.
Right next to your bed is your workdesk. This is where all the magic happens! Oh!! You just had a wonder idea for Fairy Tail. A desk. Where magic happens! Genius! Under the desk is is diluted with mold. You reach your head under the desk to scrape a few with your tounge. This is what you call breakfast in your country. Here it's breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not very tasty, but it's keeping you alive. Somewhat. On the far corner of you desk is a figurine of Ryofu from Ikki Tousen. She has her back turned away from you since she was being a bitch about being killed off in her manga. She still can't get over that.
You look at your pages to see if there's anything left to do. To your surprise, you have already finished every single page. In fact, about 40 chapters done. In one sitting. You do this to stress out your editors as you hate changing things for the better... because it's perfect. You pack all these chapter pages into a trunk and proceed to leave your fortress through a hidden trap door in under your desk.
As you go outside, the sun strikes you face like you have not seen sunlight in days... when in reality it was only one day. Drawing Fairy Tail for this many chapters can make a man lose track of time... track of life... track of everything. You then look to sky with smile and think about your parents. They never wanted you to waste your talents on Fairy Tail. But then you look into a corner with several kids jacking off to several volumes of your manga. You then look up again, feeling ever so proud of yourself.
