that's him in a nutshell. constant focus on the main of the main cast but it gets worse because there's a static character development. none of the characters have drastically or slowly changed. the only thing that happens is thye get 'cooler' attacks and people are bad then good. and then theres gerard. we all know how awful that character(s) is. also fairy tail constantly has the premise of what could be a good arc but somehow the author just forgets what he did the previous chapters and that all just goes to shit. that and the dumb fanservice holy shit i dont even want to mention how obvious and ridiculous he goes about that.

It's nice to see new attacks but the lack of character development is frustrating. My gf pointed out that I never had actual character development in my own series and now i'm seriously trying to correct that, cause when I first started writing it I thought "all this needs is fighting and explotions with weird powers" than I realised that wait people like storytelling more than anything else. So now i've been trying to make my story make more sense. I make it up as I go along but i'm hoping to turn out as a: Fist of the North Star where it doesn't seem to be made up and not a: Bleach where it's obvious that it's being made up along the way. (No where in either of these sentances have I said that i'll have my art be as awesome as FotNS just making this statement clear just incase someone calls me out)

Copying Oda is way too much. If anything, he just was influenced by his art style, and there's nothing wrong with that. don't see any of his characters as direct copies of anyone in One Piece.

Natsu can really come across as a very basic, halfassed Luffy to me…But I'd really like it if he could try giving his own main character a real personality. He has said he's a fan of Dragon Ball (or at least that's what I read) so that influence is clear at least.

There's no doubt some of Natu's personality comes from Luffy, but I think he's different enough to work for me and I like him as a main character. That's just my opinion though, but I don't feel like any of the characters are direct copies and are original enough.

The only two things I get about Natsu and Luffy being similar are SOME aspects of the character design and Natsu's occasional massive inhalation of food. So yeah, more from Tori than Oda.

Personally, I've always seen Natsu as more mean spirited (at times) and mischievous than anything, so he doesn't really remind me of Luffy at all.

If we still wanna play with comparisons before the thread cycle goes back to whatever comes next, then I'd say Kana is the closest character that ever reminded me of anyone from One Piece; when she was first introduced way back at the beginning I thought "this is what a female Zoro might be like" with the massive drinking and the way the hair line was drawn.

As for the current chapter with Lisanna, I get the feeling that if she's really Edo Lisanna then they'll try to send her back so her siblings don't go through the greif the Earth Lisanna's went though… meaning that edo tail might make a come back at some point. It's unlikely, but who knows.

Well, I'm kind of looking forward to seeing the entire bar hall doing a collective spittake or something when they see someone who is supposed to be dead.

But, yeah, I have no idea where Mashima is going with this. And for the record, I only find love triangle crap fun to read if it has a Nice Boat ending.

I don't think FT is nearly as bad as that. Granted, there isn't as much character development as there was in RAVE, but the characters are gradually getting their own time in the spotlight. I mean Grey almost got half an arc by himself, Lucy has had several chapters surrounding her and her alone, and the same can be said of Erza and Mystgun.

True, we could use more information on Natsu but given that he's the hero that will come in time more likely than not. As far as the next two chapters go, I think they might set us up for something quite good. The Eldoras arc really didn't impress me when compared to the one's before it. So I'm optimistic.

You don't know? Just imagine one of the girls of the triangle snapping and killing either herself, her romantic rival, the male lead, or any combination thereof. It's a reference to the School Days anime, where Girl B snapped and killed the guy, and then was killed herself by Girl A. The final scene took place on a boat, hence the meme (as well as a boat that appeared on a travel documentary that originally aired in place of that episode after an axe murder in Japan).

I think some of those arcs were important…I mean, we learned about the main characters' backstories and established who the series's Big Bad is going to be (for now, at least).

Erza's has had a large influence on the plot, even if it's through Gerard. Luxus' arc has set-up for a future one with his father as an enemy, given that Makarov sent Gazille to spy on him. We haven't seen the reprecussions of Mistgun, Happy, and Charle's arc, but given that Lisanna had been mentioned quite a bit immediately before this arc (Mirajane and Elfman said it was the anniversary of her death, and Gildartz had brought her up just before the cast was brought to Edoras), it's likely that Mashima had something like this in mind.

The "Nice Boat" ending refers to some series (I don't remember the name) which had a love triangle that ended messily (two of them wound up being killed in violent manners) and the whole episode was taken off-air and replaced with a video of a boat sailing around.

I was mostly refering to what was achieved through those arcs . Only Luxus' arc had any great importance so far , and Erza only had the importance of introducing Gerard only for him to pop up and supply the power up next arc .

This last arc I refuse to call Charle's and Wendy's for several reasons :

1. They were never the main focus of the arc .
2. They never faced any great obstacles themselves in this arc , and the one time they did they lucked out .
3. They contributed nothing to the arc's conclusion .

Yes they "inspired" the other stupid cats to push their stupid floating homeland to not crash with the anima so their homeland would not dissapear…..

only for it to crash and be broken into a billion pieces three or so chapters later . And no great detail was given on them even reacting to it may I add .

I'm going to chime in here and say that while I'm GLAD that the Edolas arc is over, I'm still interested to see how Mashima is going to handle Lisanna coming to Earthland Fairy Tail and whether Mirajane and Elfman will just flat out accept her back?

Personally, I doubt that Mirajane and Elfman will accept Edolas Lisanna at first due to A: They and the other guild members know NOTHING about Edolas since they were lachrimized and B: To them, Lisanna is dead, offed, kicked the bucket. If anything, Mira will reject her as a ghost or a fake. Elfman however, may trust Lisanna in the end just by looking into her eyes and seeing that the soul of Edo Lisanna matches that of Earthland Lisanna.

This will then lead to the big backstory of Lisanna, Mirajane, and Elfman in chapter 200 showing how Elfman came to possession of the beast powers and how he killed off Earthland Lisanna (sorry folks but the anime doesn't count) before containing his beast form. If done right, it could be the best chapter of Fairy Tail in a while, if not ever. If done wrong, Mashima obviously doesn't care about his series anymore.

So I'm gonna take a shot and say that this is the Lisanna/Mirajane/Elfman mini-arc of the series. After all, once everything is said and done, we'll see if Lisanna would like to stay with Earthland Fairy Tail or long for Edolas Fairy Tail.

I never looked at it like that, plus the anime depiction of what happened between the 3 siblings never sat well with me. Granted it was good but I all ways wanted to see how mashima would handle it. Here's to hoping that there will be a legitimate explanation to it or a cliched explanation for it.

I liked Grey's role on Ghost Island. It was not a plot related arc, but I liked FT when there were doing big odd jobs for the sake of the guild's reputation or sport. It is a guild based fantasy manga afterall. Lame arcs to me are ones with focus on pricks like Gerald, Laxus, Zero, and their lame minions.

Considering Edoras Fairy Tail ceased to exist as a guild the moment they lost the vehicle to perform any magical deeds whatsoever , regardless of Grey's idiotic assurances that just being friends with someone equals a guild , there is realy no point on her going back .

I don't think we can call it anyone's arc really… As you said, IMO, no one was the main focus and it sort of drifted back and forth from its goals. Kind of like a Skypiea Fairy Tail style, and severely lacking in Eneru.

I still don't think it was a bad arc, but I don't think it was that strong either. Definitely among the worst arcs in the series. Gajeel being there made up for most of its bad points though. Really, the Dragon Slayers themselves are the few things that can still save this story. I hope Hiro will inroduce one or two more before it ends.

Would it make any difference if I did? Prolly not, but here goes.

The reason why I see Natsu as mean spirited/mischievous (and not in a good way) at times is simply because he never lets up on his friends. Even if they're almost dead he'll still harass them (mostly for comedic purposes mind you), it would take an absolute certainty that they WILL die unless he does something for him not to harass them at that given moment. Though, the same could be said of some the other main cast…

From what I've seen, Natsu only has maybe 3 things that motivate him: Find Igneel (I'm betting he'll try to beat Igneel up when he does), Guild pride (all fighting pretty much deals with this somehow), and pranks.

Natsu is kind of like bully really. I mean like with the current anime arc, some of his 'best' friends were turn to stone and all he cared about was fighting. You think he would care a bit more or something. Heck most of the time he just wants to fight for no reason. If anything if the world was going to be destroy then he would just be asking where he could get his fight fix just for the heck of it.
