Its because Funi doesnt have an international branch. They dont own international rights and arent interested in getting them. Viz media can Release Internationally cuz it DOES have an International branch.
One Piece in the UK: The Facts

I'd love to see another dub get the job and do a better job than Funi. Just to see them cry when people get DVD sales.
Or even better, pull a UC and get them to just sub the thing and broadcast that.
I'm sure channel 5 is looking for quality programming.
Or we could go ask Aunty Beeb for a chance. I spoke to Steven Moffet once and saw the Queen from a distance. They can get us in.

We'd need a propper Anime Channel first … oh wait

Get BBC to broadcast it before/after DW timeslot next year. The ratings will go up from that and get people into it. And then continue it after/change time slot with some hype.
We can have a little cartoon Luffy run around at the end scenss of Episode 4 next year lol
-
You Know, I always wondered if the BBC broadcasted anime….
-
The BBC don't broadcast animated material.
Well, only CBeebies or CBBC but they're for like 10s and under.
-
@Badass:
Don't you think it's a little dishonest if people who aren't from the UK sign the petition to get One Piece in the UK?
And you know for Funimation to buy the license for the UK, it would cost money. Money that Funi may not have.
To answer your questions:
1. As I stated before, the facebook groups would be split into two, one for UKers only to give an accurate repesentation of the exact amount of UKers (on FB at least) want One Piece here.
2. I really need to get Paradox295 to alter that statement listed on the website because that is not our goal. We want to get Toei Europe and Kana (btw, both are based in the same country so if want a deal for Euopre, France is the best country to work with, not America) to work together with Manga UK to get One Piece here. Please alter it man, it will create confusion later
You Know, I always wondered if the BBC broadcasted anime….
Believe it or not, anime WAS broadcast in the BBC in 2000. Granted, they only aired 4 episodes of the show but it was an amusing dub of Urusei Yatsura all the same. You can find some of the episodes on youtube and I have to admit, Matt Lucas makes an interesting Ataru.

Ok, changed it now.
But, just wondering, can Kana use Funi's dub on their DVDs? Or will it be Manga UK who runs what goes on the DVDs? -
@Badass:

.They shouldn't really because then it's not accurately showing how many people will buy it. Obviously the higher the number benefits us, the fans, if it works, but if they aren't getting the sales they expected they might drop the series.
-
Ok, changed it now.
But, just wondering, can Kana use Funi's dub on their DVDs? Or will it be Manga UK who runs what goes on the DVDs?I doubt they can use funi's dub since I'd imagine they'll have to give Funi AND Toei royalties. It would be cheaper to only have to pay Toei royalties and have them dub it themselves.
Which wouldn't be so hard. 99% of the more famous actors here have done audio work lol
Of course none ring a bell.
-
Ok, changed it now.
But, just wondering, can Kana use Funi's dub on their DVDs? Or will it be Manga UK who runs what goes on the DVDs?I prefer the new version of the petition so i'll let it role on for now.
If Kana wanted to, I guess they could use the dub but they probably wouldn't want to since it wouldn't make sense to include it. It's really up to what materials they pay for from Toei and considering it would add to the cost, I doubt they would pay extra for a dub that doesn't need to be on their discs.
Manga UK would run what content goes onto the DVDs. Let's take the Professor Layton movie. A dub was produced for it in America for the British DVD and I believe that it will only include the original Japanese track and English dub, not the french one since it would, again, add to the costs. Since Manga have made the statement "We'll use whatever English dub exists of whatever content we buy", they will go after the FUNimation dub and put on the discs. That's the way they work.
Also, there's no way they'd make a new dub for these sets. If it costs FUNimation nearly the exact same amount to dub an episode as it for Manga to pay one, that probably would end up costing way too much. It won't happen and besides, Manga themselves don't make dubs anymore.
-
I think you would need the dub for the dvds to sell well, since you do get alot of dub watchers and people who won't watch anything if its in subs.
I think when the Facebook page is up and running and has a decent amount of people following it, there should be a new Petition (Poll wouldn't look as good i think) But add a comments bit. where people can state if they would buy the series, films, or both. Because i would love OP to get released over here but i wouldn't double dip and get the series over again but would get films, specials etc. That way it makes it clear who would buy what.
No idea how it works but who has the license for airing it on tv? would it be CN or 4kids?

Cartoon Network, probably

Wow. This is like the 15th time you've said how "horrible" the Funi Dub is.
Haha. I think you should go get your ears checked.
-
Don't worry, it's just Local.
-
While personally I have no interest in a dub of One Piece.
I also appreciate that certain people have a bizzare aversion to watching things that are not in their native language.
So for the sake of sales, unfortunatly a dub is probably necessary. -

That's not what he means. He's saying he'd like to see someone else dub it for the UK and for their sales
to skyrocket, because that would "teach FUNi" a lesson, etcetera (because they've not released it to us)Personally I'd not want a seperate UK dub, though.
-
is there a facebook group for this?
-
is there a facebook group for this?
There will be. The reason why there isn't is because I want to wait until I get back from my holiday to start advertising this heavily and making sure order is kept. I will dedicate my summer to this campaign so I don't want to make a group and then pretty much leave the next day, it's not exactly the best start.
I know you all probably want things like banners and groups now but you've seen my work before (hell, would you have even known how bad the situation was if I hadn't informed you?) and i'm sure whatever I make will definitly be of the highest possible quality. I'm just asking you to wait one week and once I return, the campaign will begin!
-
That's not what he means.
No. That is what he means. He's said how "horrible" he thinks the dub is on numerous occasions.
He's saying he'd like to see someone else dub it for the UK and for their sales
to skyrocket, because that would "teach FUNi" a lesson, etcetera (because they've not released it to us)When are you people gonna realize that it's not Funi's fault? Funi is a SMALL company. They don't have overseas branches like a company such as Viz would, and because of that, they're not able to get their dubs to the UK. Don't pull Funi into this and act as if it's their fault that you don't have the dub in the UK.
I also appreciate that certain people have a bizzare aversion to watching things that are not in their native language.
Is their anybody on this forum that has said aversion? No. Just because someone likes the dub doesn't mean they have a "bizarre aversion to something not in their native language".
I honestly don't see people's fascination with Subs. And for the record: I HAVE watched subs in the past. -

In all honesty, this is one of the reasons why I asked Paradox to change the petition and is something I have stated more than enough times. I personally don't want to bring FUNimation into this (at least distribution wise) because I know they do not have the income (like FOX or Warner Brothers) to start their own international compaines to simply sent their dubs too, espically after the recession. I don't know why people would want to blame them for not getting their licensed programming in the UK when they don't even have a branch over here and it's clearly not here because Toei is being Toei as usual but I guess when I make whatever group, i'll have to stress this point somewhere.

I honestly don't see people's fascination with Subs. And for the record: I HAVE watched subs in the past.Dude are you compensating for something?
I never mentioned you or anyone on this forum.
I imagine pretty much everyone here likes the original cast, subs and all. What I meant was, there is large section public that will not read subtitles and will not buy a product in a foreign language.
Some people are just like that. -
Dude are you compensating for something?
Yes, of course, that must be it. When in doubt, ask someone if they're compensating for something.
What I meant was, their is large section public that will not read subtitles and will not buy a product in a foreign language.
Some people are just like that. That's the thing. They don't have to when a dub is made available to them.
-
@Badass:
That's the thing. They don't have to when a dub is made available to
them.Exactly my point. This is why getting the Funimation dub is going to be necessary for One Piece to sell in the UK.
@ThegreatPirateKing:
I don't know why people would want to blame for not getting the show over here .
While I don't blame Funimation in any way, I can also kinda see the view of the people who do.
Funimation are bringing over a Japanese product and adapting it specifically for the english speaking market.
The UK is an english speaking market and it feels like we are being kept out of the loop for no real reason.Let me reiterate again that I am not blaming Funimation.
-

Some people are just like that. Not true. There are numerous people who refused to buy the UC game simply because it wasn't the American Dub.
And Snowcone. Don't tell people what I'm saying. I said NOTHING about hating Funi in this topic. What I said was I'd love to see the English do their own version of the dub and have it do well enough to prove Funi wrong about there being no market to bring it here.
-

16 trippy characters.
! Fog clearly supports our goal, what with sailing around in such a nice looking pirate ship
-
I would like there to be more anime around the world too, TheGreatPirateKing!
-
^ Yeah, I think it's pretty poor that we don't even have an anime channel.
After hearing some things waaaaaay back, I'd been hoping for Animax, but no-go :'C -
And Snowcone. Don't tell people what I'm saying. I said NOTHING about hating Funi in this topic.
Key words are fun. So, are you saying that you hate the Funi Dub in other topics, but in this topic, you don't hate it at all?
I can't take what you've said elsewhere into consideration when I read your posts?
What I said was I'd love to see the English do their own version of the dub and have it do well enough to prove Funi wrong about there being no market to bring it here.
You see. There's the problem. Funi never said that there is no market to bring it there. You have to understand that this is out of Funi's hands.
@Flux:Love how you left the bit out where I said I liked Funi's Dub :getlost:
I wasn't even talking about you, I was talking about Local. You know, the person you referenced in the post I quoted. :getlost::getlost::getlost::getlost::getlost:

Well I quoted it, so I think I do know what it says. You quoted Me,
and said "When are you people gonna realize that it's not Funi's fault?"And conveniently left out the bit where I said "I wouldn't want a seperate dub though anyway"
You're all right. But I don't appreciate that, man.
-
Good to see that Manga is actually listening to you guys. I hope the UK will be able to see a release!
@Badass:
Key words are fun. So, are you saying that you hate the Funi Dub in other topics, but in this topic, you don't hate it at all?
Don't mind him. This is the same guy that said he doesn't buy the Viz releases because the numbers on the covers "block" Robin on volumes 39 and 49.
-
Well I quoted it, so I think I do know what it says. You quoted Me,
and said "When are you people gonna realize that it's not Funi's fault?"WHICH WAS A GENERAL STATEMENT NOT DIRECTED TOWARDS YOU.
You're all right. But I don't appreciate that, man.
Now I can see why people called Kuminator annoying.
-
@Badass:
WHICH WAS A GENERAL STATEMENT NOT DIRECTED TOWARDS YOU.
"You people" in response to my post is directed at me, including me in that group. :getlost:
I only said what Local was saying, that doesn't go for myself. Either write what you mean properly or don't write it at all.And don't be a dick about this, because I've been here waay longer than you, Mr high and mighty.
-
"You people" in response to my post is directed at me. :getlost:
Either write what you mean properly or don't write it at all.I'm just gonna stop now and assume you're just ACTING stupid.
I can read perfectly fine what you wrote and know that you have nothing against the Funi Dub, so you should be competent enough to realize that that post was intended for the people who don't share that view.
And don't be a dick about this, because I've been here waay longer than you, Mr high and mighty.
O really? how long have you been here? Since June 09? Or Feb 09? Because I've "been here" longer than that, I just never made an account here to post things.
-
@Badass:
I can read perfectly fine what you wrote and know that you have nothing against the Funi Dub, so you should be competent enough to realize that that post was intended for the people who don't share that view.
You responded to My Post. Don't respond to my post including me in that group of "you people".
I am not one of "those people" - I was talking about Local - What I said weren't my own views. -
You responded to MY POST. Don't respond to my post including me in that group of "you people".
When I write " YOU PEOPLE (ESPECIALLY YOU, KUMINATOR)…", then you can go off on a tirade about my post, not when all throughout this thread I've been siding with you. Because of that you should have been able to realize that I wasn't referring to you. Don't bring up that "B-b-but you quoted me" Yea, I quoted you in a post where you were referring to SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!!
-

What an idiot. 'YOU People' includes me. Why not say "Well then those people" ?
"You people" doesn't make sense in reply to myself. Because I'm not "one of those peope"It's not for me to "realise you're not referring to me" - I read what you write. Not what you're thinking.
-
What an idiot.
All this time, I've been biting my tongue, trying not to call you "idiot", or "retarded", or "completely and utterly stupid", but you go ahead and do it.
Just…shut up.
What you're trying to argue is stupid, so shut up.

When you learn how to write what you actually mean.
I said "HE is saying" and yet you reply to my post with "YOU people" ?And then you actually have the front to act like I'm the one getting it wrong.
-
Hahahahahhahahhahahahahahahahahahaha. Ha.
I can write perfectly fine. Better than many people. Don't take what I write out of context and go into an argument about the proper usage of "You", even after I explained that I wasn't talking about you.
-
I just really can't be bothered with this. Bye SnoCone
Let's get back to discussing One Piece in the UK, Guys.
How many signatures have we actually got on the petition now ? -
See ya .

So who goes to the london expo? If theres a group of us that will be there then could get some fliers made to hand out, Get a bulk made up next time im on the bus ill have to look at the prices when i go past a place that does them xD.
Bound to be people there that dont come on here etc. Just throwing the idea out there xD
-
I go to the london expo. But the next one is in October. Sooooo yeeeaaah. I would love to have the DVD's here, as long as they contain the original voice track. Other anime releases I've seen do this, so hopes are high. Why oh why can't Funi just release over here? I suppose this means we won't get Soul Eater Dvds either.
And yes I know why they can't. -
1. All releases get the Japanese audio.
2. We are getting Soul Eater, the 1st dvd is just out i think.Nothing to do with Funi, they will only sell the dub to who ever gets One Piece.
