A couple of days ago, I was in my friend's pool with a bunch of people, and he asked me "How did you get those scars on your back?". I was like "Scars? What scars? I have scars on my back?"

Apparently, I do. I felt them with my hands a while ago (maybe a month or even two), but never saw them. I never thought anything of it and thought it was just the way I was sitting or something, but that wasn't it. I don't even know how I got these scars, and I don't remember having pain where the scars are.

So my question is : Is it possible that I would get random scars like this?

I once had a boil on my back under my shoulder that exploded, then became infected under the skin by bacteria, forming a really nasty cyst that I poked with needles to drain. My hospital fudging sucks and won't do "cosmetic surgery" to remove something like that even if it's uncomfortable, so I just had to deal with it. The bacterial colony never really went away, and the cyst still has pus underneath it (suggesting it's still infected -_-) but the outer skin is completely scarred over now, from the repeated healing after opening it up to drain so often.

Boil/skin scars like that are not completely uncommon. Really deep, large scars like those that reach your muscle tissue ARE unusual though, so if you get those see your doctor ASAP.

Oh. It doesn't reach down to the muscle or anything. I would probably be in pain if they did that. Just a couple of scars. I guess if there's nothing to worry about, I should be fine.

I have some scars on my arm that turned up recently, out of nowhere; I don't even remember having cuts on my arm. Maybe it's the same way some people bruise more easily than other.
Maybe the cuts weren't noticeable but they scarred anyways?
Speaking of scars, I have one on my eyebrow (stupid, I know), that I've had since I was little. It's so bad that hair won't grow there. Is that peculiar?

Pretty much any large (wide) cut is going to result in a scar. Even slight ones can leave marks albeit slightly, depending on where they were and how deeply they cut.

Yea, I can completely relate to this. Every few months I wake up with cuts on my back, unexplained. As of late, I've had some bad ones, multiple long cuts.
I have never figured out where they come but I've heard some funny things.

-Wounds from a past life re-surfacing
-Wounds received during intense Lucid dreaming

But nothing that has any concrete holdings, though the dream one has happened to me. I got scratched on the neck by a zombie while I was running from it, woke up and found jagged scratch marks on the base of my neck.

Yeah, I'm fucking crazy, but I stop as soon as it starts hurting. Not to mention I can't hurt myself too bad since I bite my nails.

I've got a small one on my eyebrow as well that keeps the hair from growing here properly. Its only been pointed out to me once in all the times I've gotten my eyebrows waxed so most people miss it.

my brother has a big scar on his eyebrow from hitting himself in the head with a baseball bat, and he hates it when i call him scar (from the lion king) but it looks just like that.

he didn't hit himself on purpose, btw, it was aluminum, and bounced off the soccer ball he was trying to hit.

and that wasn't the only time he cracked his head open. lol maybe i should try it. my brother is actually really smart.

I'm surprised I've never broke a bone. Burned myself badly yes (the bigass scar for that is not in a fun place for me :/), but no broken bones XD

I cracked my head open when I was in 3rd grade. I was swinging on a rope tied to a SUPER tall/wide flagpole during a windstorm with some other girls (HURR I R SO BWILLIUNT). The wind stopped me mid swing and all I could do was brace for impact. The other kids asked if I was okay, and being the tomboy I was at the time, I tried toughing it out. I rubbed my head and felt something wet. Pulled my hand back and looked at it aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand…...... OH SHIT!!!!!
That's right. I was bleeding everywhere, fuuun! To make it worse, a fireman ET unit member was there (it was at a soccer game that my bro was in btw). My piano teacher assaulted me with gauze bandages, the fireman checked to make sure I wasnt crosseyed, then I was rushed off to the hospital by Mama. Daddy stayed with my bro.
So the whole way, I was shitting bricks thinking OH CRAP OH CRAP AM I GONNA DIE?!! OW OW OW. Then we get to the hospital only to end up having to wait…...... yes...... they made a little girl who was bleeding with the possibility of a building brain bleed wait in the waiting room. So about 1/2 hr to and hr later I finally see the doctor. Turns out I somehow avoided a concussion. Yay? Then they put a staple in my head, because apparantly they didn't want to waste time with stitches.

My primary care doctor removed the stupid thing about 2 weeks or 1 month later (i can't really remember). I remember shitting bricks thinking WHY ISN"T THE GUY WHO PUT IT IN THERE DOING THIS?!! AT LEAST I KNOW THAT GUY KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING.
It did come out safely though. Thank God. I really didn't like the thought of a staple fragment dislodging itself and deciding to take up residence in my brain tissue.

I also have a scar on my toe. When I was a little kid, my Mom got a shiny new pair of stainless steel scissors (you get where this is going right? I r bein smart again hyuck!). I thought they were really cool and wanted to try them out (being an ADHD child didn't help this). So one day when my brother and I were having a story read to us, I snuck into the kitchen and got the scissors. I just wanted to cut some paper with them, simple right? I took the scissors and cut through the paper like a hot knife through butter. Then, when I placed them on the counter… they fell off. KA-STAB. The heavy scissors went straight through the skin and straight through to the bone. (luckily the toe stayed intact)
Luckily since the scissors were new they weren't all gross with who knows all what in terms of disease, so I just got neosporin, a bandaid, and went to bed with a sock on my foot.

I got attacked by a dog when I was 4. Have a scar on my cheek, neck, and thigh. The cheek and neck are simply deep cuts from where the tooth grazed, the most noticeable one is the one on my thigh cause there's plenty of fat on your thigh and the dog was able to take a nibble, and of course when having hair and all that I sometimes have trouble finding it now. I can't even find the one on my neck, I'm just told repeatedly by my Mom that she can see it plain as day. The one on my cheek is of course easy to find cause it's on my face (durr). Not cool looking, just like a tiny half cm of missing flesh that if you didn't mention it most people wouldn't notice.

The scars aren't anything major, but that attack sure was, from what I can recall and from what others told me I looked like I came out of a horror flick with and that I was lucky to survive. I still remember laying on a metal operating table in a huge room with like 6 doctors overlooking me stabbing needle after needle into me. It was my own stupid fault it happened tho, he was a good friendly dog that I foolish snuck up behind and petted on the back.

He snapped and never got over it. I always felt bad for that, I felt it was my fault he was a bad dog now. I never feared him after that really, but felt really sad for him. Thankfully he wasn't put down and he got to live his life. He died when I was about 10 I think.

You might just be genetically predisposed to get noticeable scars. Some people (e.g.: African Americans, South American natives) are prone to get keloids (raised scars) even after only a small injury to the skin. It's nothing to worry about, but if you ever decide to get tattooed or pierced you should consider the risks.

The scars might have been caused by small incidents in your early childhood and now that your older and larger the scars too have become bigger and more noticeable. They should fade over time though.

When I was like 8 me and my friends used to play on this small hill in a forest. And at the bottom of it were some thornbushes. And I, being the idiot that I am, decided to take off my shirt once because it was really hot or something. Of course, I slipped and fell.

I've got scars all over the bottom of my feet from wading around in the river…and a chicken pox scar, and I think I have one on my left ear from the time one kid ran into me while playing kickball...his front tooth cut my ear open and I was bleeding everywhere, but somehow I didn't have to get stitches.

...which is good cuz stitches scare me.

Oh so this is a "tell everyone about your own scars" thread now.

I fell off some sort of cabinet when I was three, and my bottom front teeth busted through my bottom lip (right in the place where people grow soul patches). It would be a very noticeable scar, if not for the soul patch that I ended up growing.

I'll try that. Right now, it's a tie between "mauled by wolf" or "got into a knife fight". The first one will probably be more believable.

I have a scar from an underwater rock on my lower abdominal, which I've had since I was 9 or so. The weird thing is, I didn't really bleed, it just scratched up my skin because the water was low and I didn't notice the rock. It never really healed over. My friends never believe me and think I was stabbed.

A scar on my left shoulder while getting up, again in the summer, while sitting under one of these for shade. They're called Kedroi, they're hundreds of years old and only grow a cm per year, and they are insanely sharp.

Now that one did bleed, for a while, but the island I was on doesn't have anything since it's a camping only area. The only bar there didn't even have rubbing alchohol.
I went swimming, slept, let the wound close and it's still there.

Lastly, one on my middle knuckle that I got when my father was trying to saw some wood that I was holding, and as he moved the saw, it slashed my skin (thankfully only skin, no fingers lost). That one's not as noticeable, unless you're looking at my hand, but eh it rarely comes up, usually only during comparing scars stories.
