I'd imagine there would be some OP merchandise at the Funi Booth. I'll be sure to take pictures. And if you have a $100 bill burning a hole in your wallet, then spend it at the Funi booth to get a OP puzzle.

Also Fairy Tail Scavenger Hunt, and Colleen Clinkenbeard will be there (for FT, but she'll be there, nonetheless).

I'm…not talking about the license. What I wrote has absolutely nothing to do with the license to season 4. It has to do with Funimation and One Piece. Topics of that nature are almost always discussed in this thread.

Yeah, that's what I'm getting at as well. Something tell me 2012 will be the year they start pimping One Piece out like the spiritual successor to Dragonball Z it is.

That's kind of ridiculous, they'd have to risk alienating their own audience. Remember, most of the people buying the DVDs and all of the people they're targeting are going in order.

I don't think any FUNimation property will beat out Dragon Ball Z. With all it's re-releases the phenomena will never end. Maybe after the Water Seven saga is released One Piece will be a decent competitor to DBZ.

As silly as this statement sounds, it could be a marketing strategy. Luffy and Zoro look cool. Nami is hott. Chopper is cute. They've covered the main things everyone wants in an anime.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't anticipate anything. NYAF has been shaping up to be more of a Fairy Tail thing. Even though I'm sorta disappointed with how the story's currently going in the manga, I think it's really cool FUNi's doing all this stuff for it. I hope the part with Mashima and the cast can be streamed at least.

Dude, I have a garage full of fireworks for when that day finally happens. If FUNimation gets Sailor Moon, I am summoning every police officer in the tri-county area to my house with a pyrotechnics display my town will have never seen before.

Well, the guest seems to be Gen Fukunaga, and they're ramping up the "this is gonna be huge" factor. Doubt it's One Piece now if they brought their CEO up from Texas, but whatever it is might be a game-changer.

Even though I'm not an SM fan myself, I'm sure that FUNi getting the license would put it into very capable hands. I just wish I knew exactly why the creator doesn't want it available in English. Seems odd.

I think it's something more than a simple anime acquisition announcement, could definitely be "Sailor Moon" though, considering the demand for it that's a special case. Could be a series of big announcements, but I would assume it includes something besides an acquisition.

I can only think of two scenarios in which Mr. Fukunaga would need to show up:

They got bought out by someone huge, and by huge I don't mean a collective of FUNimation's original investors, I mean a Disney or a Viacom.
They're branching out into something huge, maybe some initiative to bring their properties to Hollywood. In this case, the announcement would probably be some sort of Fullmetal Alchemist movie or live-action series.

I'm not against the possibility of FUNimation getting a new parent company, but considering they just went through the process of buying themselves, it seems like it would be too soon for something like that to happen.

I'm leaning towards a new initiative of some sort.

The announcement is that Funi plans to paint The One Piece logo all over the US so that it's visible from space.

Now that Gen is going to that panel is anyone going to be there? Does he even do that normally? I can't think of him doing that - at least not recently, not even for something as big as Eva 2.0.

Although I agree "more One Piece" may not warrant Gen coming out for the announcement, considering that OP fans have been in a tizzy over season 4 then maybe they're seeing it as a big thing.

I could see Sailor Moon warranting that kind of attention, although Eva 3.0 would do it as well (didn't 2.0 make the top ten list of general DVD sales earlier this year?). There's also a . . . co-production? . . . that they're working on so it may have something to do with that as well.

It's hard to say. While I am not a fan either, and I haven't been able to confirm this, if the original english dub was butchered as 4kids did with One Piece, that could easily explain it, understandably, and also explain why FUNimation could make a strong case for giving them a chance to do a new dub.

Or they sent in the big guns, namely that girl from a con this last summer that was encountered by Gentleman Skeleton (I believe it was him, if I recall).
