Gen Fukunaga and some other investors have bought FUNimation Entertainment from Navarre (who bought them in 2005). FUNimation is essentially a private business again.
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...
Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)

Everyone write letters to Disney so they buy FUNimation and its properties!

Oh, good.
…That is good, right?
-
@Badass:
Oh, good.
…That is good, right?
Well, it depends on how much money they have I think? I don't remember ever hearing anything bad about Navarre interfering with Funimation.
-
@Badass:
Oh, good.
…That is good, right?
I'd say this is a pretty good outcome. It shouldn't affect their One Piece really.
-
I hope we get some news in the coming weeks about One Piece and its future.
-
Lance, Marketing Director for FUNimation, said on FUNi's Facebook page to "be patient" concerning news about One Piece. I think we should try and do that.
-
@Yuugi's:
Also, boy…I did not know that Hosoda Mamoru directed #199. That episode looked so familiar when watching it that I was flabbergasted to see it was directed by the same guy who did Digimon: Our War Game and Summer Wars!
It's not that surprising, he directed movie six too.
-
Navarre was pretty hands off.
I should say, though, Forbes lists Darwin Deason (one of the investors that Fukunaga brought on) is worth a billion USD. I much will change in the way of cashflow, though.
-
I was in Dallas this weekend. Just where in the heck are the Funimation Officies anyway? Glad to hear a facebook update to be patient about One Piece news. I just ordered the entire 2nd season from Right Stuf. And preordered the next manga volume. I'm now officially broke.
-
Be patient?! In my book that is good news right there! It could mean we don't get a new set until the end of the year but to me that looks like "we are moving on with the series."
-
Good to be back on the forums, but anyway…I have been watching season 2 voyage 7 of One Piece via Netflix. So you can so I have been watching filler of my own!
-

They're across from a horse stable.
Also…Ed?! Here?! How?!
-
Also from what I can tell they are not exactly in Dallas. At least not in the busy downtown Dallas. They are a bit off to the side.
-

Yep, saw it last night:
I think everyone can calm down a bit now. One Piece isn't being dropped, if it was, I'm sure they'd be open about it as others have said.
-
@Yuugi's:
Yes, it had the NEP for #206.
Also, boy…I did not know that Hosoda Mamoru directed #199. That episode looked so familiar when watching it that I was flabbergasted to see it was directed by the same guy who did Digimon: Our War Game and Summer Wars!
He needs to more One Piece episodes because, holy shit he directed Movie 6 and episode 199 look so much like it.

-
Ok so now it sounds like its not getting dropped? Few Hopefully will get the fourth season soon ^^
-
Wow. Poor Lance. He must be getting tired with all these One Piece questions and if they will give it another set. Twice this weekend and I bet more will come later. haha
-
Oh yes, that certainly seems like good news. In addition to another comment by one of the FUNimation representatives saying saying that we will know soon. (I saw that through One Piece Podcast's Twitter, but the picture's gone now…)
Can't wait for Season 4. It's when I really started loving One Piece.
-
I'm hoping whatever we get from them One Piece related we get it soon.
-
The best thing we can do to ensure we get more One Piece is to continue buying it. Fan demand is great, and all, but sales are obviously what they care about. I can't stress this enough.
-
I can't wait to hear what they have to say! I really hope that if we do get Season 4, that it doesn't take more than 4 months to come out.
@Zach:

I agree with this, that's why I've purchased every single set they released (including the movie). In fact, I've been using RightStuf since Season 2 so I can get the sets as early as possible.
-
I pre-order every set as soon as it's available for pre-order. But I'm at a loss, since I now own every One Piece set available from FUNi.
-
Hosoda might be too expensive for Toei to hire for episodes, considering how big Summer Wars has gotten.
Then again, maybe he can do movie twelve?
-
I seem to remember movie six being creepy as hell, but certainly good. Haven't seen it in a while though. Loved Summer Wars though. He's great.
-
Movie 6's soundtrack and ending were very creepy I remember. The "Lily Carnation" final form took me by surprise.
-
Just by thought, maybe Lance was talking about streaming Toriko by chance since there was a discussion about that before the message…?
-
@LUFFY#1:

I think he was replying to the main question, otherwise he would have directed the answer directly at the person asking about Toriko. It also doesn't really make sense in that context.

Yeah good point, that would be a bit silly.

If you haven't bought it yet. Amazon got Season 3, Fourth Voyage for $21.99 right now.

Good to know! I've bought all the DVDs for myself at this point - I'm planning on buying more as gifts for friends (and maybe duplicates of sets I've gotten autographed so I can keep those copies somewhere safe but that's a big if).
The Facebook/Twitter news is excellent, though!
-
I bought One Piece S1V1 and Movie 8 at Best Buy,
S1V2-v4 at Amazon,
Movie 8 blu-ray- Best Buy again.
S2-V1-S2v3 at RightStuf!
S2v4- S2v7 at Amazon.
S3v1- Funimation Booth at Anime Expo (which was pricey as hell)
S3v2- S3v4- Amazon
and Finally S3v5 at Rightstuf,so I think I did my part on buying the Dvd set, EACH time on or near the original release date so I pretty much paid full price…. Hell I even had 2 copies of OP:Unlimited Adventure for the Wii.

If Funimation announces Season 4 First Voyage, here's what you do: YOU BUY IT.
I know what you're thinking, wait for Netflix, right? NO, YOU DO NOT WAIT FOR NETFLIX. Netflix will not keep One Piece going. Your hard-earned dollars put directly towards the DVD set will keep One Piece going.
I know what you're thinking, torrent networks should have the set in no time, right? NO, YOU DON'T TORRENT. If you can afford Internet you can set aside $1 or $2 every now and then. Make a nice little One Piece DVD jar. Put money in it. It will add up. Torrenting will cost OP a sale from you. And if you can't afford Internet, if you're really at a Starbucks somewhere mooching off their Internet, well sir. . .you can afford Starbucks, so you most certainly can afford putting money towards a DVD set.
I know what you're thinking, you think you can't afford it, right? That's why you want to torrent. Or wait for Netflix. To you I say NO. You can afford it. Maybe not all at once, but RIGHT NOW, go put $1 in a nice little jar. Mark it as being saved for OP Season 4. You are now 2% of the way towards affording it at MSRP. If RightStuf offers it on sale for $40 or lower, you're even closer.
No excuses. Funi's hurting because we didn't want to buy Season 3. We respond in kind by buying Season 4. In spades. In droves. Droves of spades.

Well, it is great to be back on the forums again, and this news about being "patient" for OP seems like a positive. If anything, this gives me time to catch up with the Season 3 sets. I still need the 3rd set and up. I'm definitely keeping my eyes open on Amazon, if I'm lucky, I'll pick up both S3V3 and S3V4 if they both hit the $20-25 range.

Other agreeable options:
- Put them on your birthday or holiday wish-lists
- Look for sales on Amazon.Com, RightStuf.Com, or another LEGITIMATE online merchant to save money on the sets
- If you CAN afford the DVDs and have friends who like One Piece who can't afford them, birthdays and holidays

ok first off epic post, and very true. i dont think some people ever realize how good weve got since one piece has been put in very good hands. i have been purchasing the sets as soon as they release since season 3 started , and i need to purchase 3 more to catch up. and damn i need my dubbed franky fix.
secondly im glad this forum is back up, cant imagine getting my one peice news anywhere else.
3rd- i wanted to ask what is funi's relationship with toei? can they possibly score the rights to simulcast toriko?
-
So about the dubbed simulcast,
that shows support too,
right…? -

Wow! This new typing style is…ugh. First post in the revised forum.
I hate to be a Negative Nancy here but the problem isn't us anime fans who can (and sometimes can't) afford One Piece and buy the sets anyway. The problem is that a lot of the "new" anime fandom is composed of free spirited, goth kids who think outside the "box" and for them illegal downloading has become the norm, not he exception. At the place I work and lot of the 20 somethings that work under me (and quite a few of them are con-going buddies) are more than willing to slap a few hundred at a con for goth outfits and other souveniers but ask them to support a flailing industry and they'll give you excuses about downloading fansubs, and what not. As big a One Piece fan that I am, the best I can do is recommend them to watch the series on "www.onepieceofficial.com". If Funi is hurting it's not because of lack of fans, it's because today's fan is far more resourceful when it comes to using the internet and that will eventually kill off the entire industry.

True. Very true.
I think this needs to be posted everytime we see somebody saying, "We want Season 4 One Piece but I haven't bought the current DVD sets.".
So about the dubbed simulcast,
that shows support too,
right…?That shows supports too. The thing is that money speaks louder then hits.
I am not saying to stop watching the dubbed simulcast but saying that buying a DVD set goes a bit father then watching the simulcast. Especially since there are people here that been wanting Season 4 but haven't bought a DVD set.
-
If you haven't bought it yet. Amazon got Season 3, Fourth Voyage for $21.99 right now.
Thanks, this was the only one I was missing. But now my entire funds are down to 50$. :[ Your post hurt my wallet, but helped me.
I had found a cheaper site to order fifth voyage on, so it looks as if I'll actually be waiting till the 19th. Normally, I order with Rightstuf, but the other site beat it by 10$…

its jsut the cruel reality, why buy it when you can get it for free? as it stands, you are indeed correct, anime in America, and possibly everywhere, is in a bad state, and has been for quite a while
-
I swear, I used to download a lot of anime back in the day, but if anything, I always had the resolve to buy every series that I had on my hard drive. Hell, I was given Dragonball (w/ both languages on MKV)…what did I do, I bought all the sets officially. I downloaded Higurashi...when it was released, I bought the box set, etc. I just wish that anime fans had the proper respect for the companies that bring anime to the states. So many people will say that they won't buy a series just because they "already saw it" or "have it on their computer." It's nice to see people being adamant about supporting the industry. I'm currently saving up so I can purchase a ton of titles I have my eyes on: One Piece, Angel Beats (BD), Needless Part 2 (BD), Baka to Test, HOTD (BD), Demon King Daimao (BD), Rin (BD), Claymore (BD), and that's to name a few. XD

I do the same things. Download to test, then buy. Or just to have both.
