Damn it I need a PS3.
Graces on the Wii is easily my favorite Tales game ever, and 60+ more hours of content on top of that sounds like fucking HEAVEN.
As for the new one, I'm guessing it'll be another from the Symphonia/Abyss/Vesperia team.

Tales of Xillia's website has opened.
Here is the youtube link to the trailer
Yep, looks about right. Same models as every other game, slightly better designed environments.
Just got my copy of Graces F today, so I'm about to finally dig in.
Looks like Tales of the Abyss is being brought to the 3DS soon after its released.
Maybe this time the PS3 will get the beta and the complete version will be on the 360?
Heh…
cries
Interesting that they're using both Kousuke Fujushima and Mutsumi Inomata's character designs in the same flagship game.
Supposedly both characters are supposed to be main characters this time. Guess this is as close as we'll get to a Tales game having a female lead role?
Oh well,
not like it'll come out here, so.
resumes disinterest
Tales of Xillia looks very good. Nice to see a main character who fights with his fists.
Last one of those we had was Senel in Legendia, and that game… sucked.
Here's hoping he takes Farah's example instead.
Man, Graces F is majestic. It definitely LOOKS like an uprezzed Wii game, but there is so much shit to collect and keep track of (titles, item book, monster book, discoveries, dualizing, equip upgrading, side quests, shop quests, elespot) that you could easily spend half an hour just retooling all your characters and their equipment without fighting a single battle. Seriously, I haven't seen a completionist's wet dream/nightmare like this since Star Ocean 4 and its battle trophies.

GOD DAMN IT NOW I WANT THE FUCKING GAME EVEN MORE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH
I mean, shit. I already went stupid with the completionism on the Wii version last year. But with all this extra content, the PS3 version's sure to be even more of a souldevourer.
Been playing the hell out of Graces F and going super slow. Just unlocked Chaos difficulty at about 30-40% through my first playthrough (lol) and the more I see the more I love this game. I'm not usually one to care about the rabid series fans and their hatred of Bamco NA, especially when it comes to their demands about games in the series that are just not that good, but seriously, if this doesn't make its way to North America it'll be a total travesty. It's bar none the best GAME in the series (I'm not making any statements about characters or story since I haven't finished it yet) and it feels like everything I enjoy about the series has been amplified in this installment and everything that I hate about them has been eliminated or minimized. It's really the apex of what the Tales franchise epitomizes. I'd better stop typing this post before I start running through bullet points.
Great news everyone. I just read over on Gamefaqs in a thread that NamcoBandai seems to be hinting that they're going to localize Tales of Graces F:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/927750-playstation-3/57923941
Apparently they posted a puzzle on their Facebook:
www.namcobandaigames.com/glyphs
The solution leads here to a blurred logo that looks like the logo for Graces F:
Remember, it's not 100% confirmed but it's definitely exciting.
Yeah, I've been following this on gaf for the last day, and one of the guys there does localisations for namco, and he hasn't denied it, which gives me hope. Best thing is, since this is a PS3 game it doesn't matter if it only gets released in the US or Europe.
Even still, I can't quite bring myself to believe namco won't find some way to screw us over.
Symphonia is one of my favorite games ever. The story seemed unoriginal at first but then the plot-twist came…
! Heaven itself is your enemy?!
DAMN
Not to mention the great gameplay and characters. Anyobody who hasn't done so yet, next time you play the game be a bastard to everyone but Kratos so he becomes your "best friend", the game will slightly change and you'll get to have a really nice, well written conversation with him.
TotAbyss is great too, though sliiightly less good than symphonia I must say. I had to import it since it wasn't released in Europe, the disc broke right before Cheagle Woods. Then I imported it again and the disc broke right before the final boss. now I just downloaded it and am on my way to beating it again?
God or Heaven or any sort of organized religion is almost NEVER good in most JRPGs, it's actually overwhelmingly evil most of the time.
So when that plot twist came in Symphonia, I wasn't surprised at all. That said, I still think Symphonia handled that twist well. Some of the others got to be a little ridiculous, though.
Yeah, my favorite religion-is-bad religion in an RPG is either Final Fantasy Tactics, Dragon Warrior VII, Breath of Fire 2, or Grandia II. All of them involve a hilariously evil One True God (or imposter God).
And please oh please oh please release Graces F in the United States. It would mean the first Tales game I could play since Abyss.
Namco have confirmed the site is theirs.
http://www.facebook.com/NamcoBandai
Which means barring a huge troll, it's almost certain that we're getting Tales of Graces F in some shape or form, whether it's that rumoured suped up wii version, or the straight PS3 Tales of Graces F.
Hoping for the PS3 version myself, since that'd be region free.
Not to be all "I told you so" but… I was positive this was their strategy when Graces F was announced. If you already know you're making a superior version on a better platform for selling RPGs, why would they fuck with the Wii edition? Just wait a few months and start localizing the PS3 edition instead.
They could just bring both versions for maximum profit (and if they translate Graces F which seems to be the case, they also have everything done for Wii…), but it's Namco - so who knows what they do, hopefully they at least bring one version now...
And I believe Namco Europe has a new partner since last year or so to guarantee fast localisation. Even if the console is region free, importing is always something I'm rather loath to do

lol, sales for Tales of- games have been pretty much the same on every platform lately.

More surprised it's happening at all then which version we get.

Kinda this.
Trying to make sense of Namco Bandai's marketing strategies regarding the West feels like trying to navigate non-Euclidean geometry with a dowsing rod.
I've spent the last couple years despising Namco Bandai for not giving us a majority of the Tales series. I recently learned though that they are having potential bankruptcy issues. So I hate to say it for those of you hoping to get Tales of Graces, It's not happening.

I look forward to you eating those words. It's true that Namco's in trouble, but there are too many (English) signs to the contrary. We're getting it later this year.

I'm not doubting that they might be bouncing back with things like the actually fun Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 and apparently Enslaved was fun (I didn't try it due to a personal vendetta against Ninja Theory for what they are doing to Devil May Cry). If we do get Graces then shame on me. Though I think they might hold out until their next Tales game that's currently being developed.
Edit: I haven't been keeping up with Tales of Graces much aside from the fact that I know that we didn't get the Wii version, and they were making a PS3 version. That was the last I heard of it. After quickly reading, I have to say… Shame on me. Consider my words "Eaten"

Did you even read my post on the last page? They're heavily hinting that they're bringing over Graces F. It's all but confirmed.

I would have to say that the one with the reading problem is you…? Or is something not clear about "I'm surprised this is happening at all?" "Oh I agree"?

I don't have a reading problem. You might. I don't care about their marketing strategy when it's obvious the game is coming over.
Edit: It seems the teaser site that NamcoBandai put up now has a date on it of 2.2.2011. The game may be announced then. And the image is a little different. Once again, the site is:

Since you not only completely misread what he was saying but are being obnoxious about it too, it would seem you're the one with the problem.
So apparently the latest character revealed for Tales of Xillia is Aizen– I mean ALVIN.
From andriasang:
"The 26-year-old Alvin (voiced by Tomokazu Sugita) is a skilled mercenary who's been traveling the world. He's friendly and will approach anyone unassumingly. He takes on a friendly attitude, and skillfully hides his true intentions. While he appears to be living his life by just going with the flow, he's actually planning everything out."
"When did you start thinking I wasn't planning everything out?"
For more on Aizen-sama (banzai!), read here:

Do you think he'll fight with a hula hoop?

U_U I thought Namco Bandai said they were going for a different look then Graces and Vesperia with this one…That looks like a small update on Vesperia to me.
Oh and props on the brilliant joke Silence. That looks a terrifyingly a lot like Aizen XD

That's what they said, but translated into reality it means "we're making nicer backgrounds and having the models be slightly closer to actual human proportions"

Oh well XD I liked Vesperia. It's my favorite in the series in terms of gameplay. I was just hoping that maybe they would try something new. I should remember that I'm talking about Japanese developers though…The and Japanese and change is like Whipped Cream on Cheese...
Well, it's official. Tales of Graces F is going to be released in North America.
YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES. It has been TOO DAMN LONG since there has been a Tales game in English on a system that I actually own. I will buy this day one.
Like I said, consider my words eaten. XD
Congrats you non-Japanese-reading mofos, you're in for a treat. Best battle system in the series!
My playthrough of TOGf is currently on standby as I ordered the Japanese strategy guide that isn't set to ship until the 10th along with Radiant Mythology 3 (and a few other awesome goodies: Okamiden, Ninokuni DS, Half-Minute Hero 2)
Looks like I'm going to get a PS3. At lest a Tales game is coming to the north. I'm so happy now.
I still never played more than 5 hours of ToS. Funny, I bought a GameCube and it 4 years ago and that's all I did on it. I'm wanting to play JRPGs again, but it's just so hard for me to get back into the genre. I've really had a falling out with grinding and long games. The only JRPG I actually beat I believe is Dragon Quest VIII, and I love that game. No JRPG before or after it has compared.
Dude, off-topic, but not all JRPGs are long. Try Chrono Trigger or something.
And I still don't know why so many Tales fans have such a hardon for ToS. Maybe because it was the first for many of them? I dunno. I still prefer Phantasia, Eternia, and Vesperia to Symphonia. I'm tempted to check out the Narikiri Dungeon X / Phantasia X PSP game, but my lack of Japanese skills hurts.
Vesperia is the best of the ones I've played.
(Phantasia, Destiny, Eternia, Symphonia, Radiant Mythology).
I still need to play the symphonia sequel, legendia & abyss. They've been on my "to play" for years. Doesn't help that my backlog is three figures these days.
Vesperia's fabulous. I don't own it (or a 360), but I played all of it in multiplayer with some college buddies a year or two ago. I was really, really impressed. What a good, modern series Tales has become. I wish my old standby Final Fantasy was as good nowadays….
Oh, and a lot of people hate on Legendia (and they have good reasons), but I can't. I really liked it. Senel's the best brawler in series history, so much so that they have the new Fighter costume in the modern handheld spinoffs based more on him than any of the other martial artists in the series. If you have a Senel/Chloe frontline you can rack up 100+ hit combos like it's nothing. If his awesome throw finishers didn't reset, he would cross the line from overpowered to broke.
I need to play Vesperia when I get around getting a PS3. I didn't buy it because earler because I wasn't a fan of the cheap cel shading… The animations in the battle system looked great however.
I have some questions though. This is about technical details and difficulty. I would ask on GameFAQs, but some of the fans there are assholes.
-Are the enemy mobs balanced in a way that the combat system doesn't overpower them? You know, are they punching bags despite looking intimidating? This was the mian problem I had with Symphonia. Enemies had similar behaviors, and they never were a threat or challenge to the party. It didn't help that the game had different enemy types without any variation from threatening to least threatening. As silly as it sound, this is an element I look for in any RPG.
-How's the weight physics? Do all enemies have the same floaty weight or is there actually a weight system?
-One thing I didn't like about Symphonia was the requirements to activate particular Hi-Ougis. Like use a spell 500 times to use a powerful version of the spell once it hits 500(and you can never use it agian until you cast it 499 more times). That was plain silly, though I did heard this system was changed port. Is it in this game?
-How's post game(like bonus events before the final boss)? I haven't played a game with fun things to do after the main story since Star Ocean 2, Star Ocean 3, Star Ocean Blue Sphere, Resonance and Fate and FFX. While Symphonia's style of post-game was good, I felt as if they didn't push hard enough, especially considering that the max level was 255.
I may have other questions, but that's about that.
Are you asking about Vesperia or Graces F?
Vesperia .
I feel the battle system in Vesperia is even more broken… Once you get Overlimit, you can get a period of infinite combos/instant spells, and late in the game, you can do it without overlimit through tension skills, or use Rita and set others to "spam taunt" while you spam violent pain on big bosses and tidal wave on every horde and watch them die. At the beginning of the game, though, it's fine. You move and attack slowly, for one...
There was a weight system in both ToS and ToV... although in ToS only a few things were actually heavy (dragons, some bosses >_>). It's like this in ToV...
ToS GCN's most restrictive hi-ougi was probably Lloyd's 14% HP while equipping the Material Blades after getting the Eternal Sword while holding Attack, Guard, and Tech/Arte... Or Colette's random one. Genis's just needed 50 uses of Indignation and Overlimit... (although the port had the everyone else but you is dead, use an arte 200 times, be at 14% HP, use a skill that doesn't even always work, in Overlimit, and then use the arte)
Post game is similar to ToS's... You don't have to grind (I find this a good thing).
It's not like I never needed to grind in the games I mentioned. It's just the games gave valid opportunities to do so in dungeons that offered powerful enemies with high EXP gain to balance out the max level system(otherwise level 255 should not even exist). Of course, max level is optional. There are people that beat the super-bosses at level 1 given the right setup.
Thanks for the answers. I'm curious about Graces F too.
Tales games are the easiest RPGs to grind in, especially the ones that have an auto battle for the first character available. (Except Destiny II JP lol)
Grab turbo controller and a paper weight with a rubber band to make the analog stick stick. Use another rubber band on the trigger button which makes the screen rotate.
Go to world map, Go to town. :3

I don't think that makes the battle system of Vesperia broken. You have to play the game for quite a while and even then, most players are not going to figure out that combo. I think I'd put that in the catagory of "Easy to learn, difficult to master."
