So far, only Stocking's VA is confirmed as Yukari Fukui (Nia in Gurren Lagann).
The style is just brilliant.
The names are just wrong so that it makes them just right.
So, my interest is piqued.

I'll watch it, but since GL I've seen a lot of anime that changed my way of thinking and I can't tolerate just pure style anymore. If it doesn't dig a little deeper like what Gainax anime did BEFORE GL (after seeing their selection I feel GL didn't go as far) I'm not going to last.
It doesn't help that You Yoshinari is my FAVOURITE ANIMATOR EVER. :<
I don't know. I liked Gurren Lagan, allot, but I'm not sure about this one. The fact that the second part of Gurren Lagan was significantly worse than the first (I thought it was still decent) doesn't really give me allot of faith in this project. I suppose I can give it a shot, Gurren Lagan was amazing.
This looks pretty interesting. I like the art style of it. Can't wait to watch it when it comes out.

Funny that the quality of the Gainax productions decreases pretty much in release order, and that all their great stuff was at the start.

Because it was made after Eva when they were bankrupt, and so it was produced on a budget of 12 cents and looks like crap. (How you run out of money after making what was at the time THE MOST SUCCESSFUL ANIME SHOW OF ALL TIME boggles the mind)
And the Diacon animations you're never going to see anywhere… legitly.
Watch it and then take a guess as to why. Its only 6 minutes.

Minute 1 is slow and is actually the Daicon 3 animation, and minute 2 sucks ass, but the remaining 4 are the best thing ever.
You'll probably have to watch it several times, and slow it down to the frames to even begin to catch everything.

^^Simple, Evangelion wasn't actually that popular in its initial airing (didn't even make the top 10) despite it getting a lot of coverage.
Of course, the breakdown of its schedule and the quick depletion of funding in the middle of its airing didn't help at all.
really? cause i remember it being popular when it came out. and even so; with it's popularity over the years, don't they get any money for that. DVD sales toys, etc.
Well, by the time it was finished it was more well-known.
Basically, Gainax just the had the bad luck of one problem hitting them after the other
-toy companies passing them up because of the designs
-aforementioned funding troubles
-when eva finally got the money rolling in, they were busted for tax evasion (actually that would be a big problem wouldn't it)

Well, 26 different versions of Fly Me to the Moon for the end theme probably didn't help….
And they didn't reuse the launch sequence footage at all, when they could have gotten by with 3 or 4 versions probably.
So instead we got huge cost cutting measures at the end. Bleh.

Among other things, the president of the studio at the time was embezzling money from it.
Though I'm sure that's not the only reason.

They spend a ridiculous amount of money on anime, IIRC Hiroyuki Yamaga said even TTGL had the potential to bankrupt the company if it flopped. They enjoy making anime and don't really give a fudge about the budget until it's too late, which is why NGE and Kare Kano self destructed in their last episodes.
Story deterioration was likewise attributed to this collapse in production values, i.e. Gainax had to chance the story because they didn't have the money to animate things properly. They've used this as an excuse to make movies (End of Evangelion and the GL movies) to accomplish what they couldn't in the series, although I think the GL one was just to cash in, they obviously didn't have any problems in the anime series - Gainax usually makes the lion's share of its dough by pimping its merchandise.
While I can understand robby putting Kare Kano at the bottom the rest of his list makes no sense. While Abenobashi and Mahoromatic had lower production values than previous Gainax works, they were at least consistent, compared with Eva going from god-tier to wut-tier, Gunbuster from amazing to DID PEOPLE REALLY USE TO LIVE IN BLACK AND WHITE? and TTGL/FLCL having fairly consistent, high quality animation, albeit inferior to the early stuff.

Actually, the only thing stopping that video from being released in the US nowadays is the song and lack of interest. Everything else would likely hold up, although a company could easily sue in order to 'scare' anyone off (happens far too often, sadly). Even the Playboy Bunny trademark, which is what originally stopped Daicon IV from being released, was cancelled in '04.

This show looks awesome as fuck. I like the name Panty, it's pretty funny but, I'm afraid that her name implies the use pantyshots which I do not support. Whatever, Stocking looks more cool anyway.

The monochromatic final episode of Top wo Nerae had nothing to do with the budget, that was a stylistic choice. It costs the same amount of money to animate in grayscale as it does to animate in color.

Most of my enjoyment in the latter was from being able to pick out just about every reference in the mecha parody episode.

The still-shot shortcut wasn't unique to the final episode, it was evident up through Episode IV IIRC. Most of the space insects were stills that got cut up by a heavily animated Gunbuster,
I don't 100% buy the grey scale as purely stylistic, although let me note that was my original impression before certain people contaminated that line of thinking.
My reasoning is Gainax tends to blend time when it cost-saves with "experiments" of style, and calls the whole package style, when it might just be them using an experiment as cover. And the experiments always end up following very expensive episodes. NGE is the stereotypical example, I think of GL's episode 4, animated by Osamu Kobayashi. It followed episode 3, which was animated by a bottom-tier studio like Xebec yet looked VERY VERY GOOD, whereas the Kobayashi-led Gainax team put out an extremely awful quality episode but disguised it by having Kobayashi on board. Beck that episode was not, in the same way Giant Robo is not Shin Mazinger.
Follow that with the Rossiu near-monochrome dirt poor village (compared with Simon's underground village from earlier) and the original excised footage from Episode 6, and it's clear to me Gainax shot its wad with Episodes I and VII and tried to make up for it by spreading the love to the other episodes.

Call me nuts, but in recent months I've started to grow attracted to the surreal mind-rape approaches taken to weird shows like Abenobashi. It's much more memorable, although not necessarily in a good way. Mahoro was incredibly depressing and horrifying, on top of driving people insane - although not as nuts as Abenobashi I still preferred Abenobashi more, partially because of the references.

I'm half-joking. It's because the Nanoha staff seem to play up the "romance" in an almost parodic way, but keep it kosher to the point it's only an undertone that people want to see really badly.
