Parents need to know that this showâ€s focus on violence overrides the creatorsâ€ supposed billing as a search for a lost treasure. On a recent episode, it was difficult to differentiate between the â€˜goodâ€ and the â€˜badâ€ guys, and the constant sword battles become mind-numbing after a few minutes. There is little educational value in such a show. With such an emphasis, it isn't appropriate for younger elementary school children; some middle-grade elementary school kids may not be able to process the ongoing violent occurrences as well.

If your older children do watch it, ask them what kind of value they place on the ability to yield power, a trait that the characters in this show treasure and battle incessantly over. Are there better ways to be, as one pirate puts it, â€œthe best I can be?â€?

The main character, pirate captain Monkey D. Luffy, dreams of finding the legendary One Piece treasure that was buried somewhere on the so-called Grand Line and becoming the Pirate King. He and his crewmates – thieves and liars among them -- battle their way across the high seas in search of this lost piece.

For a show that bills itself as a â€œhigh-seas adventure,â€? ONE PIECE departs considerably from the classic pirate epic. With endless sword battles and comments like â€œfreakâ€? and other sarcastic remarks dominating the show, it's difficult to find any educational, and little entertainment value. While the violence is not bloody and the language is relatively clean, only testosterone-charged tween boys might find this show appealing. Their parents will simply zone out altogether.

Well anyways I went to this site that has alot of diffrent shows reviewed and it had One Piece in it. Yeah it did'nt get a good grade but as you can see to why it did'nt get a good grade, I think it has to do more with the series itself than the dub. In other words, if you show them the original, they'll proboally still hate it. Critics these days don't know nothing.

the one who's at fault here is not onepiece. and its not the reviewer. but its 4kids. they should just make their own shows instead of importing anime from japan and trying to dumb them down so that they're aceptable for kids.

Yeah, but I don't think they'll like the original either because it still has alot of fighting ( What's more it also has blood.) And one of the things they don't like about it is that they fight more than they look for the actual treasure. At least that's what they said.

So even the heavy editing didn't manage to erase the fact that one piece simply isn't a kiddy show.

Btw this isn't really a bad review for one piece in itself, it's simply saying one piece is too violent for kids..

One Piece can be enjoyable for kids but there are kinds of volance not suited for kids. This is why Oda recommand the age rating to be for older childer and up (13+ years and up)

That's the site. Well yeah, they got countless other shows reviewed as well. But out of ALL the childrens shows they got there, One Piece is the one recomended for the oldest audience 10 and up. All the other kids shows ussually go up to only 8 and up.

A friend on another forum showed me this, here was my response.

I hate critics, they bash the shit out of anything. But first things first, they've only seen the dub. If they weren't focusing on what is wrong, they can look past that and see the theme of the whole show. They say this show isn't educational, so they bash it, but these are probably the same people who love the shit out of Spongebob Squarepants. The thing is though this is the dub they're looking at, but they probably won't care.

And there you have it. The staff had some discussion, it was deduced no one would miss him, him being the idiot he is, and so we banned him for that and a few other reasons.

HOWVEVER, he came back a couple times. He was also RoronoaZoro4Real, Nami, Steve the Chef, Fullmetal Fatguy… and some fat bloke named Milo. Maybe more. So, there's another rule (the multi-account rule) down the drain, meaning he won't be back anytime soon.

Anyway the review seems to ignore what One Piece is all about, it's not just bloody, volance, cussing, acohol, and such. The review seems to focus on the nagitive staure of the series.

One Piece as many best parts in it.

It has:

-Story
-Plot Balance
-Emotions
-Character Devlopment
-Trilling Effect
-Comic Relief
-Unigue Characters
-Inspiretion
-Adventure Sense
-Differant techiques
-Creativity
-Clever Plot Twist
-Unique Story Event

These people need to analyze that. I refuse to flame these people and I'm not going to break that code because they have a brain and they must use it.

Of course many of those elements are missing from the dub version, But I still belive they won't like it EVEN by seeing the origianl version. After all, these are the people who give "Madaline" a good grade. <_<

Bad role-models? Hello; does the word "pirate" mean anything to you? It's 4 Kids' fault really for giving the reviewer that message. And it isn't just about mindless violence, maybe the dub. We have a name for anime like that: Dragonball Z. 4 Kids thinks that the character development is boring. One word to that: Bullshit! The story is driven by the characters, not the fights.

Honestly, I put EVERY child cartoon I can think of, even Dragonball Z, and One Piece still is the only one with a 10 and up rating. I wonder why, Dragonball z's fights are much more brutal and it even has a little blood.

you can't really take that review seriously.. this site was meant for soccor moms! They judge a show by standards that would make parents happy. That's why all the PBS shows get high ratings.

I'm not, it's just that the way they put it, One Piece is a non-stop fight sequence and I think that there just isn't as much fighting as they say it has (well, not as much as Bleach or Naruto). :)

I think they feel that way because all the violence and some fillers were taken out. I mean, you could probably understand Zoro's 'fight for power' better if you knew Kuina died. Or that Bellemre was killed in front of Nami.

Yeah there was, but the thing is One Piece is the ONLY kid show on there that is suggested to kids 10 and up. Everything else (including DBZ) is suggested for under 10. (In DBZ's case, 8 and up.) I don't get that. Dub DBZ is alot more violent than Dub One Piece.

That's odd. Yes, you're right, DBZ has a lot more 'violence'. I can agree with the "suggest OP for older kids" but not really with "suggest DBZ for younger kids". A website called CommonSense? Yeaaahaa ok. Bad reviews suck to read.

I only got one assumpsion to why they suggest One Piece to older kids than DBZ. Maybe because the "good guys" are pirates and in reality pirates are "bad" or what-not. DBZ the hereos are actual real heroes.

yeh OP does have less fighting than naruto or bleach but naruto and bleach is still heaps good, i wonder how they will rate naruto when its dubbed..

Not sure about Naruto, depends on how Viz Media handles the Anime. Judging by what was said at Comic-con, anything could happen. But still wonder what an uncut One piece would have been rated?

Nah. it's the review alright. They proboally only seen the first couple of episodes so they grade it by that. I know they had a panic attack when they saw Shanks getting his arm bitten off by the sea monster since they left that intact in the dub.

The website seem to think that little children shouldn't see anything 'scary' at all.
They say Howl's Moving Castle is too scary for little kids. And for Howl's too, the 'sex' indicator for kids is red ('big issue'). For what, that brief shot of Howl's butt? :huh: (edit: that red sex indicator is actually a review by a user and not by CSM)

On One Piece, I have to agree that in one glance, One Piece isn't really that profound. A lot of OP fans only like OP after a few arcs… most people start liking it at Baratie or even Arlong. And our beloved crew are really made up of thieves and liars, so they're not entirely off there.

But it's too bad they're basing judgement just from outside appearances. It's not like older cartoons don't have violence. I watch Tom & Jerry and Bugs Bunny but I never, ever tried to throw an anvil on someone's head as a child.

Perhaps their biggest concern is that 'pirates' are portrayed as good guys here, and the marines are the bad guys.

The major gripe they got about One Piece seems to be that the main characters are bad role models. I guess they think kids would want to be theives or something by watching this show.

Freaking "Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi" got a higher grade than One Piece. I know for a fact that not even the dub is worse than that stinking pile of crap. (A fact for me, opinion towards you guys.)
