This is the second major serial of Jin Kobayashi, the manga-ka of School Rumble. Like with other Kodansha alumni such as Ken Akamatsu, Kobayashi's storytelling has improved and he's crafted a fantastic story, and one of my favourites. I gave the anime by SHAFT (first season) a Masterpiece rating, something I only give out to a handful of series - only real quality gets on that list, so it is really worth writing home about. The second season is pretty good, but not up to the cosmically high standard of the first. Although, the best episodes of season II outrank the best episodes of season I.
The story is about this old man, Yasaka Hajime, thinking back to a memorable summer when he was 13, set in the year 2006. Hajime is a rural farm boy, with a lot of old-fashion ideas about how to act and behave. He meets a tomboyish older girl named Arashiyama Sayoko, and they end up working together at this certain shop. Other people join up and make the gang bigger, and there's a number of adventures.
Obviously, there's a lot more to it, but I am not saying more. Watch it, discover for yourself what this series has to offer! It is not as frantically passed as SR, and the drama is much more serious when things get right down to it. But NnA shows all the signs of Kobayashi maturing as a writer, and I can only hope we get a season three for this great anime!
