i have to agree it sounded like something an emo would say
anyways are we expecting early releases on the next chapter…. it happens sometimes i think like around Friday for RAW's?
If we're lucky, we might get a script early.

It is from my experience that every year we always get a chapter early then get a straight two week break. I'm hoping this year won't be different.
No, Oda has made a break 2 weeks ago, he wouldn't make a break again so soon. So the maximum we might have is the break being postponed to next week if we get an early chapter this week, so no worries about a straight two weeks break of OP.
I heard that there was an Interview with Oda on FM Okazaki (JOZZ6AF FM) - 76.3 FM
and he mentioned the sentence "no 17 anymore"
can someone bring the whole interview from any where .. my friend saw it in 2ch ..
can Aohige_AP san check for us also?
Oi Foxdie Virus-kun. Do you know where you heard that so my sempaitachi and I can check it out super quick to see if that was like real? Domo arigatou gozaimasu! <-(means 'thank you') o(^-^o) (o^-^)o

This happens in Christmas / New Year, when there are two breaks.
What a wonderful example. :wassat:
I don't judge people…not my job and im not getting paid for it. Crying over manga chapters may be a little extreme for my taste, although there may be some exceptions to it.
I had to walk away...so what? Im attached to the charactes, especially Luffy. I imagine the suffering he is going through right now and then it starts to get me to think about my older brother and how I would feel if he died in front of me (let alone murdered).
oooooooooooh, you were kidding. i thought you really had to get up and walk away from your computer.
i think tearing up is one thing, but getting up because things got a bit too emotional for you.. especially in a manga… unheard of. that or i'm just trolling, but i think it's that.
on related terms, i recall 2 breaks around xmas/new years time, like what deicide said

Hello Greg-san ..
well I'm not sure about it but my yahoo friend (a Japanese guy) told me me that he listened to an interview on this radio channel and Oda says that "no 17 anymore" again, then my friend told me "just wait, maybe you will see it tomorrow on 2ch" .. :wassat:
I don't know man, maybe I misunderstood the whole thing ..
and Thnx 2 u also ..
Greg is just messing with you, dude. Yes, that is already confirmed. The information is that after Movie 10 and the Whitebeard War arc (both of which have been concluded at this point) that will have been Luffy's last adventure as a 17-year-old. Whether this means he'll turn 18, become more mature, there's a time skip, or some combination of the mentioned remains to be seen.

Yeah man .. I know about that interview which ha made in Volume 0 "Strong World".
but right know, I talking about a different one that he made in the past couple of days with some radio FM channel .. he is like confirming again the "no more 17" thing ..
April Fool's Joke.
Or some other shit I'm apparently not aware about…
Oda left a message on my answer machine, two words: "NINJA INVASION" Ofcourse I know this after rushing the message to the lab for translation.

Apparently you are right, this guy didn't mention other new things except the fact ODA told before .. so, maybe it is a rumor spreading around ..
That sounds like the stupidest shit I've ever heard.

I agree. You can create a thread about it..
Oh maaaaaan, all this because of the sexual behaviors ??
:(
i have to agree it sounded like something an emo would say
huh ? are you stupid ? im saying the exact opposing thing an Emo would say :ninja:
@The:
No more 17. Yes, that is how it must be done if Oda wants to continue his manga:

I call HUGE bullshit that this has anything to do with million copy selling mangas my good man :wassat:
shouldn't we get back to chapter discussion?
Does anything else think this flashback is kinda not needed? We as the readers already know that Ace is dead, we KNOW what happens. So why bother showing us how they met as brothers?
Shouldn't of Oda done this maybe before Ace died, maybe when Luffy was sailing to impel down? Right now it just feels that it's out of place.

I don't think so. Flashbacks always come at the right moment. This one is probably meant to make Luffy's suffering sympathetic to us readers. By the end of the flashback, we will probably be as saddened as him, and he will probably reach the "depression" stage of grief, so "emo Luffy" will not look so "emo" to us because we will have sympathy for his suffering.
I've no doubt about that..but it just feels like Oda is telling us what we already know. We already know that Ace had a bad youth, we already know that they became brothers, we already know he's Rogers' kid. I get that Oda is trying to make us feel for Luffy, and this sort of serves as his "Flashback 2.0." if we consider that the series has restarted itself. But as a reader it feels like. "Been there, done that."
Though Oda could do something interesting, so i'll wait and see.

Well let me clarify this a little more.
Yes, I did get up three times while reading the chapter. Part of the reasons were because of the emotional scenes but thats not WHY I got up. I got some soda, then I took a piss, then I put the cup in the sink. Feeling the emotion just motivated me to do so….it's hard to explain but I think it's easier saying that the chapter made me get up three times.

Something interesting will come out of it. I have to agree that I'm more interested in the main story right now, but I bet this flashback will do what every flashback does besides instilling emotion: it will give us new background and setting information and expand on what we already know.
We knew Robin's basics when her flashback started (Buster Call destroyed her island, she got blamed for it, lived in hiding since 8 years old), but once we got the flashback, we learned about Saul, Kuzan, Sakazuki, Spandine, Clover, the Ancient Kingdom… Plus, knowing she was all alone by 8 years old was nothing compared to seeing her crying all alone in the sea, seeing her entire island burning.
i dont think it is boring how those two differnet charas got brothers so close to each other. also getting a bit of luffy
s past was long needed and foreshadowed by oda..now a perfect time i think to see a bit of that and like said before to make us readers more clear how much he has to suffer right now ..
-and in my opinion luffy will get something out of the flashback(which can be considered his thoughts in the moment) which will help him to gain new life-spirit and to go for the PK title cause of a promise he made to his brother.
I compare it to Naruto, when Sasuke and the readers were told about Itachi. We knew nothing about Itachi before Tobi's big reveal, so it made sense and greatly effected the story. But for Luffy and Ace, while I do think it's going to help Luffy and affect future events, it seems rather out of place. Oda could of placed it somewhere before and we'd still have the same emotional feelings.
Maybe it's just me….

Maybe he did not want to break the flow of the war, because the only other moment a flashback like this could happen and have a big emotional impact would be just after Ace was attacked by Akainu, with the flashback ending with Ace's death.
That, however, would be a big bummer because it would halt the war's action.
Now, with no action, Luffy reckovering and having to deal with Ace's death is the perfect time to go into a flashback.
It works, I agree with you, but after the war, when Ace's past was shown so much, I'm reading this and going. "You just told us this, but your giving it from Luffy's point of view."
It's still going to be interesting to read, but It's not like. "holy crap, It's Ace and Luffy when their kids, how is this gonna turn out?"

Well, my prediction is that we will see the "Sabo" incident that was mentioned by Ace but not explained during the war. Probably it was when Ace almost died, leading to his promise to Luffy.
I think next chapter will entirely devoted to show the Luffy and Ace bonding and finally drinking together to become brothers. Then the next next chapter will be about the Sabo incident.
What Sabo incident, when Luffy punched the Celestial Dragon?

do you thought so by any flashback?
i mean we know from every flashback the result…nothing new besides(like this time) how it actually happened so that we see how some charas are what they are.
Not really..for the crews flashback..they are important because it lets the reader know why they joining the crew and what their drive is. For Ace..he's already dead, and his story is over. While its important to Luffy so we can understand his pain, it doesn't carry the same weight if you compare it to any of the Straw Hats flashbacks.

"If it wasn't for the Sabo thing… and having a little brother like you to look for... I would never have... even... wanted to live."
Ah, alright….wasn't quite sure what you were getting at before...
$5 everyone who says this flashback will be less interesting because "we already know" is going to be pleasantly surprised by how wrong they were.
The only people who would take that bet are the ones who whinge the spoilers "sound boring" every week.

Heh, I've learned to not judge anything by the spoilers. 10 out of 10 times I feel the spoilers are bad, the chapter itself is pretty good. And 10 out of 10 times he comes with a development I don't like (Luffy losing his hat by reckovering it without even knowing he lost it in the first place, for instance), I later learn that development is just a seed for something great in the future (Law being intrigued by the hat).
So, even if I'd like to see the main story progress, I'm also eager to see this flashback!
My guess, is that we will see how did Luffy save Ace when they were kids. From that moment on they became brothers.
Hopefully we might see the famous
"BACK TO BACK" form ^_^.
Wonder if Oda will use any of that "crystal log" material. Not that we'll ever know.

If he does, one day he'll tell us no doubt about it.
Even if we know the gist of the flashback, you don't know exactly what will entrail, and it isn't "Ace's History", it's Luffy's, the first instance that he has ever changed a life, he managed to punch the emo out of young Ace, the Whinny stayed though.
when you see the story in 10yrs you will be glad to have that flashback in the story..
now you may say "ahh nothing necessary" but in the future you will sure see that this piece of will perfectly fit in the overall story.
This flashback will be the emotional fuel that will make Luffy grow as a person and as a warrior. Without it the justification will be very very poor as to why Luffy has extra motivation to keep growing where others hit the wall. We as readers need this to know where Luffy will get his determination from, and what he has learned throughout all this process.
The hard lessons he has learned will make him come around full circle and keep his dream, showing the difference between the guys who face adversity and change their goals to more "realistic" ones, and the ones that look at death in the face, piss on it and keep on truckin´.
Luffy has the stones and grit to make the ultimate pirate. This flashback and the following chapters will show us the foundation of all of that, and why he is made of a different stuff than his late brother and people like Moria who were crushed underfoot and could never fully recover.
This flashback will also be rebooted slightly everytime Luffy is facing extreme hardships, and I´m pretty certain it will be a tear jerker moment everytime. So yeah, all in all, everyone should be pretty happy about this flashback. The anxiety of wanting to see Luffy get up and kick ass once again exists and I suffer from it as well, but the payoff will not nearly be as large if we don´t get to see this flashback, and what past makes the legend that will be Luffy.

This is something I actually want to see. Luffy has been crushed physically and spiritually. I wanna see what Oda has in store to show us how he will keep his dream alive. I just hope we see what separates really Luffy from guys like Croc and Moria.
I have a feeling we'll see a good deal of CSL material.
My whacked out theory based on nothing more than having studied the man passionately for almost a decade:
As he's always coming up with ideas and leaving space for growth and expansion of the story while incorporating material he's had in his mind from the start, I have no doubt we'll see some ideas he intended to use in CSL. Will we see the creature? Not sure. I have a feeling the 'creature' probably became Billy and as the CSL flashback material would have been before he met Ace I'm not sure he'll be able to fit in main themes but characters and locations he may have wanted to display will probably pop up here and there.
Oh, and we freaking get to see Luffy train.
We finally get to see just HOW Luffy became the Luffy that we've known for over a decade. Is that necesssary? No. Not at all.
But is it exciting?
YES!!!!!!!!!!
Greg, pardon my ignorance, but what's CSL?
Crystal Ship's Log is a pain to type out.
And while I'm fangasming.
I see some people have suggested the ideas of a second set of flashbacks for everyone.
I dunno.
I'm torn on the idea.
1. I really REALLY want Oda to reveal what happened to each crew member in their time away during a single or two-part flashback during their next major battles. This would bring the action to a poignant break and if the villain has something in particular to do with their experiences (themes etc. not directly related) that would be even better. Not to mention he doesn't need to do them all at once since, usually, not everyone has a major battle. With these AND another full-on flashback, that seems a bit much.
2. However, some people have mentioned about small details like, what Zoro did after he left Shimotsuki or precisely WHY Sanji has that annoying policy. They don't NEED to be explained. But…I admit it'd be kinda cool. The only problem is, unless Oda has a really good and meaningful idea beyond just explaining why Sanji won't kick a bitch, it could turn out like 'Stranger in a Strange Land'.
That is exactly what I'm thinking. What is CSL?
Edit: Nevermind.
I forget what Topic in the forums that I read this from, but it was interesting. It said something about Oda "re-starting" the series for the second half. This doesn't mean that its true, but I thought it sounded interesting. Credits go to the person who thought of this, I guess.

I think we will see the Nr. 1 suggestion for sure.
It's the best way for us to see what happened. It doesn't need to be big flashbacks. It could be kind like the Zoro vs. Mr 1 fight, in which Zoro had those flashbacks of his master. Oda doesn't need to tell us everything that happened in their adventures, but may have flashes of several scenes, skipping all the "padding" parts (kinda like he does in coverstories, but with words) so that the action is not interrupted.
About Nr. 2 suggestion… I dunno. Some characters may benefit from it, like Sanji (pre-Orbit), Zoro (pre-dojo) or Franky (pre-meeting Tom), but others had their pasts really well developed already.
The Crystal Ship's Log was Strong World before Strong World was Strong World.
The aborted movie he wrote and was about to give the final 'go-ahead' on before realizing he didn't want to write a tear-jerker.
