The new Robert Rodriguez movie. It so. fucking. awesome.
Machete

Yeah, I saw that on the IMDB homepage. I'm looking forward to it since it, along with Hobo With a Shotgun, was my favorite trailer from Grindhouse.
-
I heard a while ago that he was planning on going through with this but hadn't heard any news. I can't wait!
On a side note, I feel a sense of pride in the fact that I recognized the movie from the thread title before entering.
-
Daniel Trejo for the fucking win!
-
dan trejo is pretty badass, but jessica alba…
the trailer is entertaining, but it's hard to imagine this as an actual decent movie.
-shrugs- could be another el mariachi, though.. -
Name one bad Robert Rodriguez movie that ISNT Spy Kids?

planet terror was great, but, in retrospect, pretty forgettable–
i loved it WHILE watching it, but afterwards...
could be just me, though.you're right, though, it'll probably be at least ''pretty good''.
-
Spy Kids 1&2 were pretty good, too.
-
this will probably be forgettable too…
but that first time seeing it will be an awesome experience. I'll make sure to have drunk some beer or smoked plenty of reefer and be ready to laugh my ass off.
I love these kinds of movies
Stevan Segal sold a ticket tonight
-
It's out. Who saw it? I won't be going to see it because gore isnt my thing but in all honesty damn giddy they made it. The fact that they made a movie because of a trailer for the movie is insanely hilarious.
-
Read a review in SN&R that compared it to The American. Apparently it's about as over-the-top slapstick as that movie is serious, but both are pretty similar in terms of high energy octralin.
-

You are so wrong about that. I just got home from seeing it. MAN. Talk about so many win moments in one freaking movie! I LOVED it! So much. Danny Trejo is one badass Mexican.
I laughed at just how stereotypically Mexican this movie could get, it was just… wow. Perfection. Just what you would expect from a Rodriguez film, and more!
Gotta say I loooved Michelle Rodriguez in this movie! Much more than Jessica Alba, but she was cool too.
I would totally go see it again.
-
I love this trailer

link in case it doesn't work (gotta be over 14 to watch it XD)

I'm feeling kinda split about this movie, on the one hand it looks pretty damn sweet, great one-liners, and Danny Trejo and all. But on the otherhand the no good goddamn piece of shit Rodriguez made it.
So what are the odds of it not sucking as bad or worse than planet terror? I'll guess i'll have to see it either way tho.
-
Personally, I loved them both but if you didn't like "Planet Terror", you probably won't like this.
-
Planet Terror bad?
-
I love pretty much all of his films that I've seen. Haven't seen Spy Kids though.
-
@Kairouseki:
Planet Terror bad?
…
You didn't like Planet Terror?
You missed the point of those movies apparently...
-
No, wolfwood didn't like Planet Terror.
-
Just got back from seeing it. I enjoyed every minuet of it. Talk about high energy.
-
@Kairouseki:
Planet Terror bad?
I haven't seen it (but I did see Death Proof and the first half scared my pants off) but it seems like a rehash of From Dusk Til Dawn.
-
Planet Terror is nothing like From Dusk Till Dawn. Death Proof is terrible, though. And I say that as a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino.
-
Funny, it's the only Tarantino movie I actually liked.
-
@Kairouseki:

No wolfwood fucking hated planet terror.
Especialy when the girl snaps her wrist in the car handle, i almost threw up in my mouth right there.
-
Funny, it's the only Tarantino movie I actually liked.
This says a lot about your taste…
Cuz it's almost universally agreed that Death Proof is Tarantino's worst cinematic outing.
Even if it IS supposed to be terrible.
-
"Death Proof" is my favorite Tarantino flick as well (and I pretty much like all of them). Personally, I think the whole "Grindhouse" outing was awesome!
-
Don't get me wrong.
Grindhouse was amazing… but it was a homage to TERRIBLE fucking movies.
Ergo by definition the movies were terrible but charming in that they KNEW they were being terrible.
Death Proof was just a slow slow borefest of a movie.
And the payoff was not really worth it.
I will say that the last car stunt with the Uma Thurman stuntwoman where she was on top of the car for the long chase WAS an amazing piece of cinematography thou.
-
Death Proof was just a slow slow borefest of a movie.
How can you say that when Kurt Russel was driving like 120 mph?
And the payoff was not really worth it.
That I sort of agree with. As I said earlier, the first half was freaking terrifying. There's a level of unbelievability/air of ridiculousness that tints what happens, but it's the same shade as seen in other horror films of old like A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Shining. Like those films, it was really unsettling.
The second half isn't as impressive, I never once felt that Kurt Russel's character was in control, unlike in the first half and unlike almost all other campy horror films like it.
-
It's a pretty good movie. The only thing that threw me off is the woman he's coupled with romantically.
-
It was a damn good movie, with the exception of Michelle Rodriguez and Lindsay Lohan. If you're going for action and blood and guts and semi-nudity then you'll be happy.
Decent acting, Trejo wad pretty good as was De Niro and Fahey and of course Cheech.
-
What's wrong with Michelle Rodriguez's performance?
-
I thought she was fantastic! Michelle Rodriguez is a badass.
Now, I know that the Grindhouse films are an homage to the old cheesy films from the 70's, and so what if they're not the best quality films, they are still entertaining, and I think that the Grindhouse movies did a great job of capturing the feel of those old films. They did what they set out to do, so I enjoyed them for that.
Then again, I like pretty much all of Tarantino's films as well, Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction are among the best imo.
-
Tarantino is pretty hit and miss for me, Pulp fiction, Reservoir, Sin city and Inglorious basterds are all top notch films.
While the Kill Bill series is the purest form of shit there is.

I thought that the first time I saw them but, after a number of years hating and trashing them, I watched them again and loved them to bits. Now I want to go back in time and slap me.
-
Kill Bill's awesome no matter you saying.
-
Just got back. So many things were on track, the action, gore, the humor. I like the fact that most of the cast has been in Robert's films before and that those who haven't worked with him blended in well(except Seagal), it had a sense of family to it. Downside was that the ending kinda lost momentum and felt chaotic. Generally, it was a good time just kinda losses some of the cooler stuff as it goes on but still worth a watch.

Segal was hilariously bad! His spanish sucked too. The ending wasn't what I thought it was going to be, but I was already pumped from the movie as a whole, so it didn't matter XD (just didn't like who Machete "ended up with")
-
Just got back and for the most part I agree with Zyordius. Segal was funny but also felt out of place (still some great moments from him), the movie itself started off wonderfully and the humor kept constant all the way through. I feel the ending was quite chaotic as well and sorta lost intensity compared to how stylish and well shot other action pieces of the movie were.
There were a couple pointless scenes and I don't understand how they made it past the editing room.
-
I cna't seem to recall what became of Don Johnson's character.
Normally Michelle Rodriguez is toxic to me, but for some reaosn, in Machete not only did she not annoy the piss outta me, but somehow was kinda hot too. O_O

! When he tried to get away in the Jeep at the end, Michelle was waiting for him in the back seat. As he reached for his gun she blew him away but all you saw was blood splatter on the dashboard.
Agreed about Michelle, normally I don't really care for her but she was cool in this and her end design was eye catching though under used. -
So Danny Trejo was on G4.
He was asked how he felt about FINALLY having a lead role.
"I'm just glad I got to kiss Jessica Alba."
:cwy:
My hero.

The fuck am I readin here…?
I need to introduce you to Michael Bay films then.

He and Christopher Walker should do a badarse buddy-flick together.

I would pay top dollar to see that.
Not even close to joking.
-

Yeah yeah sure there are worse films out there, but you've got diffrent expectations on a great filmmaker like Tarantino and for instance a certified nutcase like Uwe Boll. If Tarantino makes a crap film you'll be more disapointed because he can do so much better, whilst if a well known producer of fertilizer makes one it's just meh what did you expect.
But maybe it is like Corson said, it's utter crap the first time around and it grows on you. And i have only seen it one time so.

I was raised on 70's Kung Fu flicks with bad dubbing.
So Kill Bill hits a childhood nerve on me.
Including the "el oh el" limb slicing.
I had very "liberal" parents when it came to movies (the only no-no was sex scenes… everything else was allowed)
So I see Kill Bill as a celebration to that particular area of Cinema, kind of how Grindhouse is a homage to all movies terrible and exploitative.
-

Same here. I have a soft spot for those kinda themes and gore. I enjoyed the first Kill Bill but the second one was disappointing. I miss that kinda gore in movies, real props/blood, no cg.

Yeah, I always enjoy all those old 70's kung fu movies. My sister had a whole collection of them that included some of Bruce Lee's and Sonny Chiba's movies. Bruce Lee movies are so horrible yet awesome. His dub voice was hysterical!
-
Just to shit on all sacred cows i'll just throw out that i think Bruce Lee is horribly dull. But then again i do recall that i at some point in my youth i thought he was awesome. But then i saw Jackie Chan and it was just Bruce who:ninja:

Machete don't text.
