      @JERK:

Rugrats, Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, Pete & Pete, All That, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Hey Arnold are the best shit ever.

Being a kid in the 90's fucking owned. Literally the best time for animated movies and cartoons.

The 80's can suck it. They're mostly enjoyable now from irony mixed with nostolgia. Thundercats? GI Joe? Yeah haha, whatever loser.

I can still as an adult homo-sapien of 21 laugh my ass off genuinely at Reptar on Ice.

First time I agree with this guy on something. Way to go!

Although I maybe was born a bit too late for some of these.
Thank God that Europe still has the heart to not fuck up Boomerang completely.

        @JERK:

You better have been a little kid in maybe at earliest the late 90's or you have no taste at all.

That's not even a good excuse.

I was four in the late nineties, and even I knew how fucking awesome the cartoons were.

They should really produce new episodes of the classic 90's Nickelodeon cartoons.
I would kill for a new Rocko's Modern Life episode.

                As do I.

As a kid, you never quite got Johnny Bravo, but it was awesome nonetheless, and even more so when you got older and could understand half of the more subtle jokes.

the Ed boys were awesome too.

I love going back to watch the Animaniacs and seeing all the references I missed as a lad.

Damn, they had a lot of people sound like Peter Lorre.

The 60/70's had some good cartoons too, as that was when H-B was at their peak IMO. –Scooby-Doo, The Flinstones, etc.

As for Nick, Disney, and cartoon network, each has their saving graces.
                    Nick has Spongebob.....
                    Disney has Phineas and Ferb
                    CN has Flapjack and chowder.

But yeah, overall easch channel sucks....

                        I'll give you that

                        Disney has Phineas and Ferb

                        Sucks.

                        CN has Flapjack and chowder.

Chowder is awesome, but I heard that it was getting canceled. CN with another one of its great decisions.
Flapjack epitomizes what a child would do on crack. That's it.

Kablam! was gold. I don't know what Nick was thinking when they got rid of it.

All That was awesome, but lost its steam when they decided to bring in a whole new cast.

Rugrats never ceased to amaze me. Though, I never liked "All Grown Up" as much.

And, the '90's cartoon network shows were all gold. Just look at this for example:

                        <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="

                        "><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="

Nope, relatively early 90's. I lived through Cartoon Network and Nick in their "prime." Cartoons just really weren't my thing.
Although I have to ask, what's wrong with the late 90's? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Courage the Cowardly Dog started right around there, and that show was fucking awesome. Oh, and Hey Arnold was 1996-ish, so I dunno if it counts, but that was a great tv show too.

Could care less for some of the shows that people herald as classics though.

These don't require any comment, in my opinion. They're just, as I call them, "eternal cartoons". That is, they don't need any explanation about why they're good, they just are (and everyone knows that). Ask anyone, they will have heard of Scooby Doo and Fred, and will most likely say that they have enjoyed them as a child or, heck, even watching them now. They won't ever be forgotten.

I've only watched a few episodes of Phineas and Ferb and I wouldn't say it's unbelievably entertaining or hilarious, because it isn't, it's average. But still, I wouldn't clasify it as a bad show, either, because there are far worse examples.

I'll use this post as an apology for accusing Chowder of being a terrible show (I think it was Chowder? Maybe Flapjack? But Flapjack sucks, so no apology there.). I watched some more episodes and I didn't find it all that bad, some parts even made me chuckle, so yes, it's an alright show.

And oh, thanks for posting that video. I even found the girl IRL:

I believe he meant to imply that if you were born then, you would have likely gotten into cartoons in the early 00s.

As for 90s cartoons, yes they were awesome. I feel that I've had this conversation way too many times, though. It's like Godwins law, that as the length of a conversation between 90s kids increases, the probability of talking about the awesome cartoons approaches 1.

Alright, well because he said little kid (and not born), I took it as him saying that if I was a little kid (born in the early-mid 90's) in the late 90's, then I would have only watched the late 90's cartoons, and not have seen the early 90's shows.

Heck, you didn't have to be a kid to enjoy those cartoons. Imo, I enjoyed those cartoons (e.g.: Johnny Bravo) even more because I got all the shit they pushed past the radar. I will bet you that most of the innuendo and references was completely lost on the kiddies back then.

I'm gonna toss my hat into the ring here. I sat around thinking about exactly why I don't like TV nowadays, and why I liked it when I was younger.

And it sorta goes like this, and I don't know if it's just me or the shows: I was inspired by TV back then. After school I'd watch things like The Crocodile Hunter, Hey Arnold, DBZ, The Wild Thornberries, and basically any show on ZDTV. Shit, even Rocket Power fits the bill here.

When I saw those things, they made me want to go out and do stuff. I knew exactly what I wanted out of myself: I wanted to be physically strong, I wanted to learn about the people around me and about nature, I wanted to be smarter, etc. My parents weren't really around much so I generally acted on what I thought my favorite characters would want from me, or to be more like them. They were good characters, and I'd say they served me well - I had a lot of friends and was pretty active back then.

Nowadays, with very few exceptions, I can't turn on the TV, see something, and say "I want to be more like that," or "I want to do something like that." I don't see the heartfelt stories about a kid getting to know his neighborhood and his world, or the nerdy guys sitting around a desk talking about and playing with crazy electronics. The best thing I can think of right now is that Ninja Warrior thing that someone mentioned earlier in the thread. I've caught it a few times and every time, it's made me want to kick some ass.

But for the most part, TV's only been showing the worst sides of people lately, or just things that I can't relate to at all.

Like I said, it could just be me.

I know exactly what you mean.

I browsed the various new cartoons to see what was on and have to say I felt totally alienated. I know the 80's/90's weren't exactly the pinnacle of perfection when looking for idol/heroes/role models, but it did have that warmth not found today.

                                          sighs

90s cartoons were the fucking bomb.

this right here is the damn truth.

it's been a while since i've watched a show cause I had to set aside some time to catch it when it's on

There are still some good programs out there though. For the action/drama segment Sons of Anarchy, Dexter and Treme stand out. For Comedy you've got 30 Rock, The Office and the political segment i.e. Colbert and Stewart. For Fantasy/SciFi you've got Supernatural (which is a bit uneven, but still good) and Chuck (although that's more Action/Comedy).

Not to mention all the good series that's not new but still good like The Wire, Lost (almost finished), the Joss Whedon stuff, etc.

And Futurama is coming back, so that's your adult animation part covered, not to mention all the fun junk they're airing on Adult Swim.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that there's still good stuff out there, we just have to find it.

I know I watch shows on TV, but usually, it's only for that one show, and then I shut the TV off. I know I'm going to be watching Futurama when it comes back as I love it, and I will be watching the new season of Psych in the summer, but I can't really think of many other shows that I'm excited to see on TV.

I agree on Avatar, but the series is special in the sense that it's more of an anime-esque series. More like it would be great, but I would love to see more of that "original" stuff aswell.
Talking of original, the new simspons seasons should be banned, with only the old seasons being allowed to be broadcasted.
Another thing that pisses me off about television today is MTV. I don't wanna see crappy reality show retards. Where's my fucking music?

That pretty much bombed with certian titles(Tom and Jerry). I would not mind a bunch of new decent cartoons. Ones with a quirky main chracter and a cast people would love or hate. That is what made cartoons good at the time. Together they were like icons on the channel.

I'm also in the need of more shows older viewers would relate too, yet it would be an awesome experience as a child. Take Avatar, Gargoyles, and Swat Kats. The last two were canceled because they thought they were too violent for kids… Seriously.. Did anyone even think about being influenced by violence when watching those as a kid?

If you can't find a single good show, you may not be looking hard enough- on and off the past couple years I've been a fan Lost, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Burn Notice, Dexter, Psych, Penn & Teller: Bullshit, and The Venture Brothers, and as far as I know they're all still airing (though Lost is almost over). That's a pretty small sampling, too.

I dunno. In my opinion, it all depends on where you look and what you consider "worthwhile". I think every generation has its BACK IN MY DAY STUFF WAS GOOD HRHGHHR and it tends to be the case that stuff was just… different.

also I can't comment on CARTOONS TODAY because I haven't bothered with them in ages

I saw some chowder and laughed but that was like two years ago or something does that count

Granted there aren't a lot of decades to choose from and that I mostly interact with other 90s kids, but I just don't see such heavy worship by anyone else. The 80s kids give the 90s youth a fair fight, though.

It was better when Peter wasn't retarded, Brian wasn't Seth preaching, Stewie was a total sociopath, and Meg wasn't the local chew toy.

                                                                                                  I like that peters retarded

Stewie is better now is what I think his characters funnier the psycopath thing got played out to much this is actually the reason I enjoy the show more now

stewie and brian moments are always my favorite now they play off each other well I think Stewies character is much better now

and WTF on meg, she wasn't funny at all before now she's at least got something, people making fun of her she was shit to begin with and now she at least has some funny moments

IDK about Brian though don't really remember him before hand and i don't care for his character when he's not around Stewie, there fights are the best

                                                                                                  EDIT: wasn't peter always retarded

Blasphemy! It had that to a degree, but the dark humor and social commentary pushes it to a point where that can't bring it down alone. It appeals to me especially having gone through a highly misanthropic/anti-social phase (a large part of which still remains, but is mostly hidden by the mental saran wrap of acceptance.

I went through a similar phase (I hear they call it "puberty"). I feel that I could've done without the encouragement, and similarly my friends could have done without it as well. It's just one of those things where if I had a time machine, I'd go back to when it reached its peak popularity and deck myself.

It's obviously all about personal preference, but in any case I'd pack Zim in a different drawer from things like Hey Arnold.

Maybe stick it with Daria (which I actually vastly prefer).
