This is actually incorrect news. He's the editor for the magazine as a whole.

I'll be honest, outside of the fact that it's a criminal charge, I'm not seeing what the big deal is that an editor is in trouble.

It really feels like the initial headline was kinda just there to get clicks/careless. Because anything with Attack On Titan gets clicks.
Yeah I was annoyed with that article. It's not even a current editor.
So Attack on Titan alone is worthier then the entire megazine?
Perhaps answering your question by asking, but what magazine is it in?

Bessatsu Shonen Magazine (Arslan is published in there as well, and doubutsu no kuni used to serialize in there while it was running)
Poor, ignorant children.
I thought it was ultimately fine, but I do wonder how the Uprising stuff is going to be recieved, particularly the first half, the second half had some really awesome plot and character stuff. It's definitely going to be faster (pacing is my biggest problem with that arc) just because there's an episode every week that will probably cover 1.5-2 chapters as opposed to a chapter every month. The first half of the Uprising arc (a year's worth of manga material) will probably be covered in 5-6 episodes.
I just want to see next season animation of it.
My predictions for season 2: (SPOILER) is the Colossal. (SPOILER) is the Armored. Can't wait. Though…I hope the reveal is a bit more dramatic than the background reveal in the manga.
@Heavenly:

But it was dramatic. After I read that chapter for the first time I was on the edge of the edge of my seat.
To the new chap…
Eren
wtf
They finally get to see the freaking Ocean.
Can Armin die now?
Flock really is an insta-best character. Love when main characters get told like that.
Damn, Eren grew his hair out? I think I liked it better short.
And I still love Historia.
It's the long-awaited beach episode! Attack on Titan checks off another anime trope in classic AoT style.
Couldn't access the official translation.
I like Floche's character because he doesn't call them out in the best manner. He has a point, but it's also made in a very guilt-trippy manner, which actually doesn't really help with the difficult situation they're in - basically he's not perfect.
Also, they made it to the ocean.
Everything is tiotally going to hell in the next few chapters, isn't it.
This is a great breather moment, though and very satisfying because Erwin's and the rest of the Survey Corps' efforts, for this moment, weren't for nothing. For only this small moment, worth was given to their struggles.
I feel like this actually would be the best moment to end season 2 with.
I don't know what's happening again.
Reading a monthly manga is a pain.
There was another hint of the plot going on?
Like how anyone who read it twice or thrice before the big plottwist could call them. What are the rest of the threads, other than this war against unknown opressors and the rest of the shifters.
! Did they actually kill every titan on the island? or just those inside the walls? The part with the guillotine (that I barely remember) isn't clear. It doesn't make sense if it's all the island, but the way that they talk about going to war, they would need a port and ships and transport infrastructure for soldiers and resources, things that aren't possible with the titans around.

Yeah, I always get thrown off when one chapter starts off in a totally new location. I haven't followed this manga since Armin "died". Now this manga is going on about Eldian genocide and securing freedom for their people or something. And here I though Mikasa was "oriental"!

I believe it's just within those walls. People can now move out to settle again, but they didn't say anything like, "All the Titans are gone!"
I find this plan painfully naive, they can't extract the needed resources, they have like 2-3 shifters out of the set, and annie on ice, they have experience fighting titans, but how are they going to use the 3d gear or the antipersonel guns at people who would fight them at medaows, and must have better guns and tech?
They should fortify the island until the next drop or invasion and get inteligence. Oh wait the shifter's lifespawn..
Here's mangastream version.
And what the hell, the mule titan that saved Zeke was actually a shifter. What a waste of shifter.
Who's that girl, Mikasa's ancestor? Because on top of that body build it takes some guts to do what she did.
Here's mangastream version.

I think that is the Jaw.

We already knew that, though. At least I always assumed it since he spoke to Zeke directly. I think he's even the one who first said his name.
I think that is the Jaw.
Yeah I know that, but from the two titans name dropped in this chapter we have Jaw, who appeared, and Cart which should be pretty oblivious to be the mule titan that was with Zeke. I mean this guy in a colossal heatwave productor, this a giant and armor and this is a dog.
i had to read it twice to understand, that this takes place in the present, and this isnt some flashback with reiner, who went with the name "falco" as a kid:ninja:
so they are getting back to the mainland and reiner is getting replaced… his time must be up
also we got our last missing titan, thats cool.
i wonder if its just armored face titan or more.
Not only in the present but this is also a timeskip. They said they started the takeover of Paradis 9 years ago in this chapter so they're in the year 854 now.
should've read it 3 times:ninja:
Just read the Crunchyroll version of the chapter. If I understood right, seems there they called what I refer to as the Pack Mule Titan as Cartman.
. . . . . I'm very confused.

We're on the mainland, seeing Eldian soldiers who are also Titan Shifter recruits. I'm not 100% on timing, but we're nearing the end of Reiner's and Zeke's time as Titans by the sound of it.

I think I gathered that much. It's just the timing that is screwing me up badly.

Yeah. Until/unless we head back to the walls to compare, the best we have to go on is estimating how much time either Reiner or Zeke had.
This basically explained everything about the mainland Eldians and Titan shifters' perspective.
Reiner, Annie and Bertholdt were brainwashed and unaware just like these new kids.
Other than reiner's unstable psyche, from where you get the brainwashing? That's the control Titan thing isn't it?
Gabi completely buys into the Marley's perspective. She's straight-up happy to go and kill many innocent people. We as the audience know what's up, but from a character perspective she doesn't and it's extremely unsettling. In one page you can see her empty eyes.
All three shifters had their wake-up call. These children haven't yet. It's a really screwed up situation and it explains just what kind of perspective the Titan Trio had before they were sent to kill all the people inside the walls.
So the rest of the manga will be a war story between two human civilizations?
I'm not sure how I feel about that, I loved the concept of a country between walls and the titans they had to face outside.
But now the story seems to shift very drastically, I wonder how it will affect the sales.
It occurs to me now that Annie's crystallizing herself has a whole new meaning now that we know that if a Titan Shifter dies without passing on their power it can go to any Eldian. If proximity matters, then a wall resident would've gotten it if Annie died.
why a time skip now? the events that should be occurring are the most vital in the characters developments. why did the writer just lazy out from making the two factions fight each other immediately.
this really feels like stretching the story as thin as possible just to milk more cash out of it.
because if reiner is nearing the end of his lifetime, eren is probably at the end of his too. i mean, are we seriously gonna see the protagonist replaced at what is essentially the climax of the story?
this came out of nowhere, especially because the writer was setting up a confrontation between eren and zeke, which will probably never happen because zeke will be replaced before even having being developed at all. what a waste of a potential great antagonist.
not even the best of writers can establish a new main character in this short time. im not liking where this is going…

Paradis only just reached the sea last chapter. If they're going to be fighting Marley, a time skip is necessary for them to build up their forces/fortifications/info, etc.

Eren is not at the end of his life. He has at least another 4 years to go.

And develop a concept of sea travel vs whatever landlocked bodies of water they're used to.
Awesome OP, and a great episode to start Season 2.
Yes, great first ep and opening! The new scene with Eren and Mikasa was good and the scenes with Hange and Mike were definitely the two highlights! I didn't really dig the opening up to the last 20-30 seconds on my first viewing, but now on repeated ones, it's growing on me quite a bit.
I get the meaning of why is Beast Titan is running alongside a bunch of animals, but I fail to understand why it exists.
I thought the opening is pretty good and that was an intelligent way of using the ED.
Since this is a 12 episode cour, it's going to be some cinematic level kind of animation and considering the arc we are in. I say confining it to 12 quality episodes might not be that bad of a choice. I'm not sure about everyone else but if I had to wait 3-4 years again for a 3rd season, I'm fine because this series does it for me.
Also, it's been a while since I've been honestly terrified by an anime. Mike's death was handled brutally and shock whoever thought low of the series back to having high expectations again.
About the whole dinosaurs and animals thing at the end, I thought that's a nice touch and reminded me of the circle of life speech (all is one, one is all) in FMA.
It might not be same but I get the interpretation. You could see all kind of lifeforms from all parts of the food chain since way before time(hence the dinosaurs), from the strongest to the weakest and they all carry the same red heart. It put into perspective that humans are just a simple and albeit small part of that.
