Were you under the impression that Armin is not the main character?
Tricked!

Were you under the impression that Armin is not the main character?
Tricked!
Honestly Armin is probably the character with the most consistent character development. People fixate on his fearful behavior from early in the series but the kid just consciously sacrificed himself to make a critical plan work. Dude's come a long way.
Got to read the Crunchyroll version. I was pretty fiercely on the side of Erwin getting the injection last month, but this is fine. I'm curious where it will be taken most of all - as long as something good comes out of it, I'll be on-board. If it starts to suck in the long run and really badly, I'll eventually drop it, but I'll see what this will bring.
I find Levi's decision very rational and consistent with his character. He simply realised that Erwin was about to be a spent force,no point in lingering his painful journey…..
The author has really been heading for a spectacular ending.
Story wise, Armin was the most logical choice for a second chance and titan powers. he's the protagonist's friend, he's passionate about life, has alot of heart, and he's equally smart as Erwin (if not smarter).
Plus, there was really no choice for Levi once Erwin took his hand out of the way from the injection. i mean, you could force the injection on him but all you'll get is a jaded man who'll probably despise you for favoring him over a kid whose life is still ahead of him.
another thing, Erwin was a creepy fuck. he seemed like a very frustrated man with bankrupt morals, who knows what will become of him if he gained titan powers.
Serious Question: Where do you get bankrupted morals from? He never struck me as particularly im- or a-moral.
Erwin is very pragmatic. He was willing to sacrifice anything to reach his goal (or also humanity's), but as a result he was spent - as auem said. In the end this was probably a better decision for the long run, if this is what this was going for, which I feel like it is for now.
The fact that he let his soldiers die so Levi can get a chance at the beast titan.
I know you're probably gonna say that was necessary and to degree maybe it was. But that tells me that he is willing to sacrifice the lifes of his soldiers to get the things he wants.
A normal leader would've probably thought of a way to retreat to save the lifes of his soldiers.
For all we know he DID, but realized none of them without succeed.
Also the survey corps in general has a very martyr-y way of thinking. Each and every one of them who has been around long enough is willing and able to commit such sacrifices. "Normal" leaders probably didn't lead for long, I can't help thinking.
Half the fanbase seems to be leaving. lol. There's tons of criticism - for Eren and Mikasa defending Armin (though it's pretty obvious at that point they know Erwin is the better choice, they're just desparate to justify themselves, particularly Eren), completely ignoring that Hange is probably going to be the one to lead the Corps, instead of Armin and of course Levi being selfish, when I do think he had humanity in mind when he let Erwin rest. We'll see how it goes.
It's like Twilight fans getting upset by David getting picked over Jacob (were those their names?)
Gesumin armin, getting titan powers. Clearly this won't, in no way, backfire in the future.
Not to mention being a shifter takes a lot of stamina, something Armin have been known to lack. Him being able to become Colossal titan is remain to be seen, the only way to get special abilities so far was in consuming/injecting special serum. Ymir upon consuming the shifter didn't seem to gain any special abilities.
though it's pretty obvious at that point they know Erwin is the better choice, they're just desparate to justify themselves, particularly Eren
I don't think so. Eren defended his choice of Armin getting the injection with some pretty good points, without him they'd never have found out that Annie was the female titan.
Here have some official high school AU. Also there's a bunch of interview stuff about Eren and Armin's relationship, Mikasa's origins and Ackerbond.
I don't think so. Eren defended his choice of Armin getting the injection with some pretty good points, without him they'd have never found out that Annie was the female titan.
Well, yeah, he had some points, but the "Right, Mikasa?" shows he probably understood Erwin seemed like a better choice. He was grasping at everything he had, you see it in his helpless look later, too.
I'll say it again, it was Armin's kill. Erwin's plan failed to produce anything worthwhile, while Armin managed to take down the two of the three valuable targets.
Erwin being moraly bankrupt for sacrificing his soldiers? Did you see the position that they were in? They were surrounded with Titans. I guess they could have all tried to escape like Levi was advancing, but that eliminates the surprise attack (that while failed, had enough opportunity of working that it would have been stupid to not take it)
It's like Twilight fans getting upset by David getting picked over Jacob (were those their names?)
Yeah, Edward really have a David's face.
Yeah, Edward really have a David's face.
I had a feeling I got a name wrong. I think my point stands nonetheless.

there was no escape for them.even if an escape was theoretically possible(which was not, everyone knew that),you know what that would entail?the titans would probably attack the wall again, and whatever remained of the survey corps would be insufficient to defend the inner walls.so humanity would have died.
sometimes in war a retreat means total defeat.in real wars, mountains of corpses are resulted from necessary sacrifice.that's how the world works.
Spoiler, Chapter 85: Its happening,
! opening the Basement-Door. A HUGE Spoiler:
! The Truman Show (Gone Wrong)
! So.. where the hell will this go? Is the outside civilization separate from the village? Is it the same as the village? The clothes on that photo don't look "modern". This is incredibly intriguing.
! Eren is holding the Familyphotography in his Hand, is the last Page of the Chapter. Pagr 543, the thirdlast Page, shows Eren, Mikasa, Hange and Levi in front of the yelling People. So they are already back and know the truth. The Basementscene is a Flashback. What in gods name did they found out?
Hey someone bumped the thread, maybe there's the new chapt…

But seriously, where is it? Spoilers are out like ages.
! Reminded me a bit of claymore
I read the spoilers even though i am not fully caught up with the manga( haven't read it since chapter 40) . And wow that reveal is intriguing as hell. Gonna go back and read the manga from the beginning.

Of course. Rich people are the true villains.

Struck me as less "rich people vs poor" and more "technologically advanced vs primitive"
That said, I really like that out reveal comes
! in the form on a photograph. It's completely innocuous to us, but to the survey corps the concept is potentially mind blowing
Welp the fact that humans live outside the walls is not new, that's quite a non reveal (That useless editor's note -.-) And repressing technological developments for hundred years will also take its toll.
Chapter celebrated the opening like a sacred ritual in the church though. And that's it. Just show. Thanks for nothing. So instead of "what's in the basement?" it's "what's in the books?" now. Maps? Intel about foreign politics and military strength? Only blueprints? And ffs does Armin remember Bertholds past?
I was actually pleased by the reveal. Also that first moment with the key cracked me up.
But what that could mean in the long run is interesting to me. It definitely brings up more questions. A whole lot more. What does this have to do with the titans in the walls? Is this city like Australia?
The Maze Runner - Attack on Titan
This might explain why the beast titan was making baseball references a couple of chapters ago, I thought it was originally just lazy writing.
Or Mangastream missing the tone and setting of the series.
So, without spoiling, is the revelation in the basement ( which I assume is the info about where the titans come from etc.) any good and unpredictable?
Some people have definitely predicted it, but it's a total game-changer for the series and a big surprise for even the people who theorized it correctly.
Nice, can't wait to finally catch up to the latest chapters.^^
Yeah, it's not "new" or "unpredictable", but still extremely intriguing and especially what I appreciate, consistent with what we know. Better to have something somewhat predictable that makes sense than unpredictable just to be unpredictable. It's like the reveal about Eren's father or Annie's identity. Sure, foreshadowed and obvious a bunch, but still interesting. I'm really curious what's done with this.
There's 3 notebooks there, what's in there? Also, I feel like this just makes the Warrior Village a Warrior Country, not a separate 3rd fraction or anything - we know Eren's father is from there, so the humans outside the walls are most likely another community like theirs, with the warriors acting as the military. At least I'd take it being another community over the whole land actually being populated - at least I'd find that more interesting, but we'll see how it's done. The most interesting version for me would be if it was another community like the walls and that's it for humanity, so it's ultimately about survival of either one of these human communities.
The reveal aside, I really like the resolution with the characters - Eren and Mikasa are called out, meaning this is something for them to grow from and Levi takes responsibility.
! Kind of mixed about this reveal. On one hand, it's intriguing like everyone says, and the story should move in an interesting direction after this.
! On the other hand, I feel like it makes a lot of earlier scenes, where everyone keeps talking about "fighting and putting your life on the line for humanity/mankind" feel a bit more hollow, since humanity it just fine overall. Now it seems like they were "just" fighting for their country.
! Of course, this might be intentional, we'll need to see where this goes.

Lol my thoughts are the same.
Never was interested in Attack on Titan due to it's focus on generic characters but with this revelation we can finally get some story meat.
! So, is the little Boy, on the Photograph, Erens Father? His Brother with his Son and Wife? Or why should he put a random Picture in this Plottwist-Treasurechest?
Its really interesting to know, that the People from outside the Walls, are rich and sophisticated. I thought, that there is, some miles away, a poor Village of Titan Shifters. Some People which were banned from the Inner Walls + A crazy Scientist, who created the Serum to transform Humans into Titans.
I think, that we will see a new City, in the near future (Maybe 5-6 Chapters). With a big Wall and maybe the protection of Strong Titan Shifters and a Mountain.
Is this Chapter the beginning of the end of this Manga? Or the start of a really big Adventure?
Cant wait for the next Chapter.

I enjoy reveals like that though…Except in
! The Village. That twist felt so stupid lol. But it worked in Maze Runner.

! No it didn't, that twist was stupid lol
! You have a plague ravaging the world and your bright idea is to get the only people who are immune to it and throw them into a deathtrap? Okayyyyy
! Still not as dumb as a village full of Larpers though, I grant you.

Lol. Well when you put it like that. Either way I thought the movie was just going to be fairly straight forward. Saw it with no real expectations so the twist I actually liked. But yes overall that was bot the greatest idea.
I haven't really seen neither movie, but were those twists out of nowhere? I'm getting the vibe it was the case for The Village. We've known of a hint of "home" since Annie crystalized in chapter 33. So I guess it's not the twist, it's how you do it and what you do with it ultimately.
Is M. Night Shyamalan gonna sue?
it's kinda lazy tbh. it's just gonna be an exposition dumb, it should've been a video player. i would forgive it if there are more pictures in there to go along with the exposition.
it's not very surprising, everyone expected it was gonna be a backstory on humanity and the titans. i thought the basement was gonna contain more titan serum so they can fight off the other shifters and take their powers, and a little bit of instructions and a backstory. i was partiality right, but i guess maybe there could be some titan serum hidden somewhere.
i was interested in berthold's haunting of armin, is that what all unwilling shifters who get eaten do? will he exist in his subconscious like that and talk to him more? or is this just a one off thing to remind the viewers who got eaten?
can't wait to see more!

Powered by what, though? Not even Energizer would keep going and going and going for seven-plus years, even dormant.
Personally I like this reveal because it has a weird, anachronistic mix to it.
! These people have worked out a good deal about what makes these Godzilla style monsters tick yet have no concept of something as relatively basic as photography. A friend I discuss and review manga with had the thought that, given how photography is used to record the past, the walls' memory wiping overlords would probably keep that sort of discovery from happening.
! Here's the question that's come to my mind: Are the other Titan Shifters part of this other human civilization? Everything would suggest yes, but Zeke is called Warchief, hardly a title that would be used by people leading a refined existence. Then again, I'm a Warcraft player so I associate Warchief with the Horde.
! Also, if there is a whole other human civilization out there, and presumably always has been, why are they attacking the wall people now? What changed the status quo seven or eight years ago that the wallfolk got the Colossal and Armored Titans dropped on them? The only thing that occurs to me would be Grisha, but roughly ten years passed between then and there Colossal's appearance.
If you think about it "Humanity hasn't perished." also isn't the same as something like "humanity is thriving."
Something tells me it's just another country like the country inside the walls, with the Shifters as the military equivalent.

it's not really haunting,i guess its just the memories of bertolt. and it's not a new phenomena, eren also got memories of his father and others before him.

But we've got this impression since the reveal of Historia: it's more the fight of a certain elite than the fight of "humankind". And since we know, that titans ARE mere humans, it's even more evident. What is new now is the steampunk atmosphere which should grow larger.

Yeah, just a normal flashback.
What a surprise. An unexpected kind of Chapter, Imo:

Ok, I think I figured out, from this Spoilerpics:
! That Grishas former Wife/Girlfriend, the Mother of Zeke (He plays with a Monkey, Soldiers and Horses lol), is the Titan that devoured Erens Mom, I mean Grishas second Wife. The Face and the Haircut, its pretty much the same. Also, a lot Faces of this Flashback, look exactly like some Titanfaces, in the last 85 Chapters. Im not the only one with this Opinion:
