oricon figures out for this past week, and Shingeki continues to dominate the chart…
out of the top 20 best seller, 10 of them are Shingeki no Kyojin 1 ~ 10.
First volume surpassed 1.3 million.First six have now surpassed the million mark, only a matter of time before all ten does.
Oh, where do you see this figures? And like best sellers of each month/year?
Also since you read the original and not translated, have you seen if the translations we currently have are any good?

Shoving a sword up the ass of a titan is now a new way of killing them huh. Guess it takes one to know one
-
-
Is it wrong to feel so good when a titan is punching another titan? And I think Sasha's voice acting is perfect.
Episode 8:! The pacing of the anime is fast, we got Eren back at the end of this episode. No fillers too, a bunch of still-frames, won't bother nitpicking. They kinda changed when Marco said the whole leadership to Jean, but I guess that won't really affect teh story much anyway. Bye bye Marco. Plus it's fun to watch this whole ordeal through titan-glasses now. I wanna see reiner-bert-annie being all inconspicuous and stuff. Next week we see Levi? I just wanna see Hanji.
So with this ep we've basically covered 2 whole volumes, no, 3 if we include the flashback chapters.

@ Rogues Gallery:
Could you put your pics into spoilers, please?
Episode 8 was great again, i think it covered the entire chapter 8 and 9, meaning another episode with a fast pacing but considering the amount of fighting scenes in those chapters, it is appropriate.

Oh God that's even fuller of win. Just at look at her cute lil' potato costume fending off those evil titans who want to eat her.

Another good episode this week. The titan shots felt a little simple during some scenes but it's probably too much to expect them to look good all the time. The important scenes were done nicely and as it's been said the pacing was alright. Marco's words were indeed timed differently to the manga but that way some scenes might be skipped in favour of fleshing out others. All in all I was satisfied.

I Present to you, from Pixiv, Shingeki no Neko lots'o'catz
That was amazing and I want that author to do a weekly online serial of Shingeki No Neko.
What if Sasha was informed the titan had a potato in its neck, and when they cut open the titan's neck just right all suspensefully, a sack of potatoes falls out on the floor along with the world's biggest potato enthusiast and Sasha finds her true love. I'd fund it.
Also phenomenal episode. When Misaka cries i crai evry tim

Attack of the ducks

I'm saddened that censorship doesn't allow showing of titans eating people. These moments when they swarm on someone and start tugging on each other for a bite on a victim, they are an important part of blood-chilling setting. This episode should've shown titans eating Jean's team if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah its pretty damn good. Best new shounen manga in a while if you ask me. Also its not like the pictures that are being posted all over the thread right now. It's not about potatos, slapstick comedy or the power of friendship. And for the most part it is not looking pretty.

I don't get it at all. Do you mean that you would enjoy ti more if you saw people been eaten alive, especailly been torn into pieces. Why the fascination with watching people die slowly and painfully? I honestly don't feel like am loosing anything in the story, or is it something to do with, the more gory it is the more adult?

Too late.

Once in a while I look through, sigh, and close the browser. Repeat exact same action weeks later.

He already explained his point with
they are an important part of blood-chilling setting. He's talking about the sense of despair being elevated visually by gore.
I do think the anime staff has done excellently with the handicap though, it still comes across as chillingly desperate. -

Because those disturbing images and that feeling of despair is part of the atmosphere of the manga. I didn't watch the anime past episode 1, but I couldn't see myself feeling so sorry for the characters' deaths if they weren't so explicit and cruel.
-
I'm fine with how they handled the censorship so far.
Honestly, I think the level of censorship is quite low compared to most adaptations. I'm quite surprised to see someone complaining about it.
For example, Tomas's death and Eren's "death" were exactly like the manga. Maybe even more terrifying thanks to the better artwork and the music. -
I barely noticed any censorship. :L remember what happened to WB's stash/head in Marineford? yeah, that kinda pissed me off.
-
I also don't see any major censorship - the only thing that sort of lost it's impact so far was the Franz/Hannah moment, cause that was horrifiying in the manga, it was just confusing in the anime if you didn't know what happened.
In light of episode 8 Eren's smoking head in episode 3 is kind of mind-blowing. Wow.
!
-
^ Wait wait wait, was that a bit of titan smoke that we all missed? I was specifically looking out for those visual cues too.

I saw someone pointing it out and checked the episode. It was a comedic scene, but my mind was blown. It wasn't there in the manga either, checked the corresponding chapter. Awesome on the anime creator's part.

What was the context of that particular scene again? Can't seem to remember without looking it up.

It happened during the whole training part after Eren tried practicing balancing with the gear with Mikasa and Armin and hit his head.
-
I wonder if Eren could get future titan upgrades to fight tougher titans in the future, and if he'll be evicted by the authority like Allen Walker (D. Gray Man) in the future? Conspiracies are abound, I think the theocrats are secretly controlling the titans.

Awesome anime so far, once its done I'll start reading the manga. Sucks that its a monthly manga though.
-
@1Up:
Man u are sick, why u wanna see people getting eaten?i
Because it's a bone chillingly terrible, terrible sight that kicks the´atmosphere of the series up another notch. Because it actually has a point and adds to the series. Not because we enjoy it.
One of my most vivid memories from SnK is the image of a titan putting the Black haired pigtailed soldier's head in her mouth, while she's still struggling.
In the anime, she's just unconcious ever since hitting the wall, and doesn't even have that terrible moment where she looks up at the titan and knows all is lost. Not as impactful. So yeah, please leave the "You just want to go "Hawww Haww blood and gore!"" at the door.

I mean that these scenes, their bone-chilling violence, add to the feeling of people being doomed. It dosen't need to be on-screen, it may happen in front of character's eyes with focus on his face, or shadow figures on the walls. But their presence, in my opinion, adds to the overall despair. I don't like them and find them painful to read, but at the same time they are the crucial thing for this story's emotion. And I personaly don't really like things being toned down (despite knowing that it's inevitable for anime). If it's in the original, it should stay, even if it's unpleasant to see. Or else the anime feels decaffeinated.
And in this particular scene with Jean, scene switch feels way to sudden. Perhaps they did make the scene of people jumping and getting caught, but cut it out of TV airing and will include it in the dvd release. And it also adds to Jean's character development and along with the scene near the fires will make him decide to enter Scouts.
Though overall they make a good work around censoring. It's just that this particular scene is just cut out.
-
The anime has just enough gore elements to be effective. It doesn't need to be as explicit as it was in the manga. The feeling of despair, terror, shock and disgust are all still there in the anime, IMO.

Agreed. It's adapting the 'allude to, but don't necessarily explicitly show' philosophy of some effective horror movies. Certain things were changed in an interesting way, such as one of the corpses being whole instead of cleaved in half and lifeless, and having a whole corpse that you can't resuscitate is close to as bleak as the original. Araki Tetsurou is really stepping up the ladder of bleak atmosphere the manga presented – really talented director.

…Not...Really. looking at that scene in the anime, its not really clear that the person is totally dead, rather than just unconcious. It being a whole body gives the chance that it COULD be revived.
Originally, with it just being a torso, and the girl still giving CPR, not even acknowledging that, it's a Whole new level of delusional grief, complete irrevocable futility.
-
Yeah if I were watching that scene without having read the manga I would have just been like… "Okay?" I wouldn't have understood he was already dead
-

I prefer the original as well, but I thought the presentation made it fairly comparable. She was trying for quite a while there. I could have used a better example admittedly, but I still felt the futility.
Not long until the next chapter. Can't wait for the lengthy updates.
-
If you're talking about Franz, his body is also cut in half in the anime. It's less obvious than in the manga since we see him from a different point of view but it's still cut in half.
Even my anime only friends noticed that (and were quite shocked). So, I don't think the impact of that scene was completely lost.
-
^indeed. The anime version still went with only 50% of Franz (I'm such a bad person) and one could argue that the subtlety made up for the blatant demonstration of despair the manga chose to go with.

Saw this on e1n's tumblr page.
I was going to follow the anime first and then move on to the manga, but in the end I had to know more sooner. I'm really glad I made that decision.
