I have already made a few posts. But here we go…
Long time anime and theater arts type in the Houston area. Bit old, clocking at 35. Pursued acting, extra work, tech theater and prop making, minor stunt work as well as practical side of being a sub teacher and computer tech and Renfaire. At 27 I joined the US Navy after 9/11 to be more _responcible in life and guess grow up and all that.
While serving I found One Piece and Oda's style of story telling drew me in with characters I could care about, villians you wanted to hate and heroes who didn't win every fight they came across. And in my line of work, the term Nakama hit a little more home than some think when your trapped under 800 feet of water and you have to put your life in the hands of someone next to you more times than not you couldn't stand even talking to.
After back to back injuries my four years as a submariner came to a end. I tried to remain in and spent a year on medical hold and was reassigned with the Seabees. Got a Honorable discharged due to medical then had a mild stroke eight months out, so if you see me ramble on and maybe drift off on tangents in messages, I have a short circuit up stairs, I apologize just politely crack me with the clue bat and bring me back on track.
Sometimes I try to compliment, or be to helpful and come off a bit to, well… strange. I have lost a lot in my ability to communicate in a written form. Matter of fact this intro has taken me a fairly long time and leaves me VERY self_ conscious. And for someones who spent the most of his life in communications and acting, that is a hefty blow.
_It's Been about two years, I'm fairly normal in face to face conversations, writing without dropping words, entire sentences, grammar and spelling is now a challenge. But I am relearning slowly but surely.
I still work with small prop creation, costumes, can do theater (scripts are a bit of a challenge, I can work off video more than text.) I done Rocky Horror Picture show over 20 years, Prop making, basic costumes, Stage fighting, Music numbers, skits, minor voice acting, and minor stunts.
In no way do I try and brag about being better it's just what i've done (and some badly i might add), I just always took any oppurtunity to try any little dream that came it's way. And I must say most never went anywhere past a brief pay check, a few seconds in a movie or two, a commercial and a pay check that helped the bills.
I'm fairly out going, will help when I can and if anything I might know can help… please ask. And if your at a con and care to swap some hints on how to better a prop, share a drink or a story. Or Even need a floor to crash on or a ride to the airport... hey I'll help in reason. No I'm not driving from Houston to New York...Well...maybe, Adventurers are good I just need someone to feed the pets.
Just one day, when ya can return the favor if not to me, another down on their luck cosplayer :)
Because it's about having fun and helping others have fun.
Look after your Nakama._
