I can see the WG overhauling itself in other ways. Because of the war, they could declare a "war powers act" and become even more tyrannical and overpowering, maybe even calling for a draft, forced labor or massive taxation to fuel the renewed need for military strength.
Chapter 580: "End of War" Discussion

If Akainu advocates the abolishment of the shichibukai he'd be a dumbass. He should be focusing on a team of badass marines to take to the NW.
@Eustlass:Tomson Roche and George Black, who the hell ar these guys were are they mentiond chapter please
Yeah they were on a list of lvl 5 prisoners in ID that Bentham was looking at while he was disguised as Hannybal.

Just out of curiosity since when was Fishman Island our "next destination" ?

Just out of curiosity, have you even read the Saobody Archipelago Arc?
-
Yes . What I wanna know is just for how long we've been hyped up that that's where were going to next .

hmmmm Oda first mentioned Fishman Island as about to appear in an SBS in one of the volumes in the early teens, so technically we have been waiting in anticipation for almost a decade.
-
Since the end of Water 7. Known about it since Arlong Park, you can guess that many people have been waiting for over a decade now.
-
I was asking about the chapter where Kokoro reveals that "next up" is Fishman Island . It's not like with Jimbei , we didn't actualy know we were gonna see him "soon" .
-
Glad the war is over, wondering what Oda has instore for the Strawhats. I'm so excited!
On an off note:
Wouldn't it be awful if Fishman island looked like Pittsburgh? -

about the shichibukai replacement.
Since the shichibukai were created to cope with the current or past era (era of great piracy) and since the author-boxes (as well as several characters) stated that the era is coming to a close here and now, I can see the WG abolishing the Shichibukai after the loss of two/three/four (since kuma does not need it anymore) of their memebers.
for example, I can see Sen Goku getting the can for screwing the pooch so hard on this one (letting Marineford be destroyed, listening to red hair, giving him wbs and ace's corpses etc. even some regular soldiers were upset about that one) and Aka Inu taking over.
If that is the case, then I can see him pressuering the WG to abolish the Shichibukai, since all they do is betraying the government (Blackbeard, Jimbei and Boa being the obvious current examples, crocodile and old one) and there is no room for pirates under 'absolute justice'.If that is NOt the case, then Gin for Shichibukai!
Hmm intresting way to look at it. But the WG probley saw this entire thing coming since they have the true history, the Will of D on file.
I'd see them getting more pirates for Shichibukai, but like Kuma having them be Vega Punked into mindless machine to do their bidding.
Sengoku did what he could. The rules of the devil fruit have been broken, A man has two powers, a pirate with Haki rivaling Gol D Roger has now entered and destroyed all three main marine bases. If he went after Luffy and had Shanks bring down his wrath, Marineford would have been wiped out.
At least he saved the island, what's left of headquarters and the wounded he could. Wish is really what a real leader does. So Sengoku got points for that… Besides, would anyone want to join the Marines if they watched him throw away half the army so easily?
When Shanks said "In this instance ...each and everyone of you... is going to perserve my dignity." He flat out stood in the middle of the warring force and said "The world knows my strength, I'm not a total evil prick, and I'm normally a fairly nice guy... but I will kill every single one of you if you make me. Just because I do not wish to does not mean I won't... so please. Stop."
Sengoku killed Rogers son, White Beard is now dead, and to the world not seeing decapiated heads being paraded around might accually help the WG image. So victory on many levels but with the video transmission they also destroyed their image.
My thoughts are the WG is going to fracture into three seperate factions.
Absolute justice. (basicly who they are now) Sengoku, Akainu, Chiper Pool, Ax-Hand Morgan before imprisonment.
Fair Justice (Marines who believe in Justice AND protecting the people) Garp, Smoker, Tashigi, Coby, Aokiji, Johnathan
Then a silent third not really caring about Justice but about technology, manipulation of science, paranormal modification and Devil fruit experimentation, cyborging, corpse experimentation... Moria, Vega Punk.
Could be intresting... As for Gin, Shichibuka would be intresting but sadly, Gin has not mastered the art of wearing his jacket on his shoulders... only the true Elite of the grandline can do so. There is no room for the weak who use sleeves.
Curse this series for having so many possibilities...Swear when it's done in 10 more years another 20 can be done on just the side archs of the secondary characters...:getlost:
-
How true is the comment on Onemanga at the end "the scars run deep"?
I'm just curious because that makes me think of Shanks' own scars, he pretty much bore his teeth at Teach for a brief moment and told him to get out.
-
Looking forward to see Shanks fighting. He seems to be badass!

The word they use is "kizu" which can mean 'wound' or 'scar', so yeah, the onemanga translation works. Whether it has any relation to Shanks's scars, that's up to the reader.
-
On the who won the war.
Nobody won but if anybody REALLY FUCKING FUCKED UP and will suffer for it, it's the Marines.
Their actions just created the end boss.

And chances are Coby's little stunt and Akainu's…personality...are going to cause a schism between Moral/Lazy and Absolute/Soulfist Justice marines.
-
Coby's little stunt is so fucking important it's ridiculous. Fucking Haki from that pipsqueak? Yeah I know he did soru and all but HAKI!? If anyone is to be commended in this series for growth, it's Coby.
I'll probably get shit for that comment but Luffy did his 'growing' long ago whereas we've got Coby meeting Luffy and getting the confidence to learn not only some rokushiki stuff, but HAKI as well????
That's insane when you think about it.

Shouldn't be surprising, really. The kid went through the same shit Luffy did while training with Garp. Wouldn't shock me in the least if Helmeppo gets some Haki at one point.
-
Oh but it is.
He's had the training for what? A few months?
I'm sorry, that's REMARKABLE.
-
Luffy did grow a while before, but I doubt he's done, especially considering everything that's happened in this arc.
-
Nope. Luffy is done growing.
Getting a new attack or pushing your hat down over your face to cover your tears isn't growth.
Luffy's conviction, 'morals' and motivation are all in place. He hasn't changed an iota.
And I wouldn't want it any other way.
Coby went from sniveling chore boy on a loser pirate ship to performing Soru, somehow using mantra/haki and TELLING OFF A MARINE ADMIRAL in a span of, what was it again folks, 4-6 months or so?
That's rock solid.
-
What do we know about Haki finally? Do you really think that Coby has haki? In the last chapter, it seem that he has Mantra, but does Mantra and Haki are the same? Also, Aisa has it righ? She is strong? No. We don't know anything about it, there is no need to say such thing.

Perhaps he'll grow to finally realize what the marines will do to him and his crew after seeing Ace get fisted and become a bit more careful with who he knocks out?
Yet people call him and "idiot" for growing a pair…Odd.
-
Yeah because Aisa also had rokushiki in her arsenal right?
Mantra was used for a number of related techniques.
A group of individuals ethincally and geographically separated from the people on earth happen to call these abilities, 'mantra'.
And it just so happens that there are people on earth that can use similar abilities and they call it 'haki'.
Hmmmm.
Perhaps he'll grow to finally realize what the marines will do to him and his crew after seeing Ace get fisted and become a bit more careful with who he knocks out?
Didn't he already come to that realization after Robin was frozen solid?
And that's not growth. Growth would be him struggling to realize that he has to get stronger.
He just literally said, "I've gotta get stronger to protect you guys."
Them's the bones.
Luffy has had everything he's needed to make it since the flashforward at the end of Chapter 1.
-

Gold Roger used sleeves. But obviously being the PK he mastered the ability better than anybody before him.
-
Does Coby can predict some moves and all? No. Can he hear voices? Apparently. Can all Mantra users can hear voices? It seems not (Enel can her the voices because of his fruit). So, as far that i remenber, only Coby and Aisa have the ability to hear it. It's probably not about skills.
-
I think the coolest thing Oda has done is he also conveyed the use of haki/mantra through the 'voice' means. Which is not to say Coby will whip out Haoushoku in the next week or so, but that he will learn to use some of the benefits to his advantage if not offensive, then in a defensive manner.
This war, among many things, was an important ground for both Luffy and Coby.
And we knew that going in.
If Coby didn't show something AMAZING here, there's no way he'd accomplish his dream. But the problem for Oda was, how do you take this character that can do some really cool LOW level stuff, and make them stand out in a war among GIANTS?
He showed conviction and something to us, the readers, where we can see the potential in him welling up like a geyser.
It was so flawlessly handled by the man, it makes everything else pale in comparison.
I'm still in awe of that chapter.
-
Can all Mantra users can hear voices? It seems not (Enel can her the voices because of his fruit).
Tsk tsk.
His ability is 'enhanced' because of his fruit.
Mantra is most likely what the sky people call 'haki'. We've seen on earth people using it to predict movements, JUST like Ener and the priests.
For reference, see Luffy's battle against the snake sisters.
Haki is not just some offensive technique. It's going to end up being some lifestream shit.
I mean come on folks.
Roger heard the 'voice of all things' coincidence?
-
Looking forward to see Shanks fighting. He seems to be badass!
This chapters ending narration leads me to believe that it's very unlikely we'll see Shanks fight.
-
His ability is enhanced because of his fruit, indeed, but without his fruit he can't hear the conversations.
-

I don't believe that's true. As I recall, Ener used mantra to hear people and his fruit enhanced that.
HOWEVER, even if I don't recall that correctly, that has fuck all to do with my point, mantra being one of the abilties that properly manipulating haki can grant, ie. mantra is haki.
"Greg that's absurd! Why wouldn't Oda just have called it haki!?"
Yeah extol I can't think of a good reason heso that he'd do that vearth.
-
@People:

I thought Mantra/Skypeian Haki gave you the power of precognition, not hearing every little thing the island does.

Off Topic: Greg what the hell is your avatar picture?

What i want to point, it's: FOR THE MOMENT, Coby can't predict anything. He can hear voice like aisa. For what i remenber, Coby and Aisa are the only character who have this ability, WITHOUT FRUITS.
And all the characters who have the mantra, indeed, they have a power of precognition. -

Seems to be absolutely true.
SSJ,
Do a youtube search for 'Gorie' and while that probably won't answer your question, you'll get a good laugh.

Off-topic: I'll check it out thanks!
On-Topic: Where does it say Coby has mantra or any form or relation to haki? Can someone link me to the chapter that says this? Thanks.

You don't get it. Read again plz, i'm a bit tired.
Btw, greg, if you can check the "question which dont deserve their own thread" thread, and look at my question, it could be great.
i think you have japanese book, if you have the time to check it! -
SSJ, 579 He said he hears 'voices' disappearing. Just like Aisa.
-

I looked past it to but here indicates that like Enel(he did it during his game) and Aisa(she mentioned it a couple times), Coby can sense when ppl die due to many individual voices in his head. It's the kinda thing Oda would do when it comes to making hints.
I have noticed ever since he's introduced haki all of the mantra abilities have been re-introduced ambiguously.
-
Off-topic: Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat the fuck was that? Is that person a he or she??? I can't tell!?!?!

Yes but Enel is allow to do this because of his fruit:
Stephen's translation:
Ener: It's special in my case.
The Mantra and my lightning body that picks up electromagnetic waves allow me to hear conversations.
Anybody starts a conversation I don't like… down comes the judgement.
It extends for roughly the entire size of the country. -

MALE.

I always figured Enel had mantra regardless of his DF. His DF just enhances the range of it(to all of Skypiea and maybe more).
It's not like his DF gave him the ability of mantra. Enel specifically says "the mantra and lightning body."
-

For Enel ability, see my previous post.
About Mantra, I can agree with you. However, the fact to hear people like Coby and Aisa did, is not likely Mantra because both of them can't predict and both of the Mantra users can't hear the voices. -

Why not? It seems that he's going to be Garp 2.0, and Garp looks to have it as well.

Yes he has Mantra. Ok, i didnt said the opposite. But he can't hear the voice because of the Mantra/Haki, I think that hearing the voice is not Mantra/Haki.
