What does a Yonkou have to do in East Blue?
16 characters of Vacation?

Or maybe, having traveled with GOld Roger and knowing the secret of history and the meaning of the "D", he needed a "D" to begin a new era, and someone (Dragon?) reminded him that Monkey D. Garp had a young grandson…
This is from a previous chapter but am I accurate in saying Akainu's magma is so hot it melts metal from at least 12 inches away?
http://static3.mangastream.com/manga/5/55/04.png
To me it appears that the sword the pirate in front of Akainu is holding is melting/evaporating/breaking up without even having to come in contact with Akainu.
It doesn't melt Shank's sword, but I assume his is legendary and stronger than that fodder pirate's.
Eh, I liked this chapter a lot. It felt fitting and soothing. I have no problem with Shanks stopping the fight early because the alternative would be practically all the big game players dieing. This is still just the hlaf-way point and Shanks showing up to prevent real damage was damn good writing in my book.
Oh and loved Hancock XD
"Follow him!!!" Oda has big plans for her, that's for sure. Be it joining the crew, marriage or something else entirely.
It's Whitebeard who talks about Shank's arm, when they both met after the Enies Lobby arc.
I see nothing wrong with Shanks losing an arm. Strength in One Piece is situational: Shanks was swimming and had to outswim a boat to save Luffy. Probably he did not arrive in time to just pull him out of there, so he gave his arm up to save the boy. He bet it for a new era.
And the smokescreen trick… well, Shanks clearly underestimated the bandit. He's not perfect, and probably became a lot wiser by the next ten years.
If he manage to get His arm off, he should be able to kill that animal easily.
But if he's an animal lover, i can understand.
Also, what is the next jump issue? 19? I know the next OP chapter comes out on Jump 20, but is it jump 19 next week or are we going to have to wait multiple weeks for a time skip?
Anyone thinking that Oda may go time-skip next chapter?
Well this arc was a blast. Beautifully climaxed the first half of the story, and set the stage for the second. Also Ace died, which was delicious.
This chapter was ok, it was believable for the most part. Shanks had some great moments with Buggy, and his crewmembers have some seriously cool designs. Also Moria's expression was priceless, and I find it hilarious how everyone thought he would end up knocked out or even killed like fodder, and he just ended up being the happiest looking character in the entire war. My only problem with it was Blackbeard, his change of attitude was too sudden and underwhelming, going from "THIS IS MY AGE NOW ZEHAHA" to "i guess i'll just leave quietly" in the course of minutes.
:getlost:
Of course he wasn't a Yonkou back then.

Why was the PK born in the weakest part of the ocean? Silly questions…

Get laid….....
@Fire Fist:
Best Pic I could find, and even it's pretty bad…
In the past, he had a bandanna with his name. In the present time, he has it tattooed on his Forehead.
I know its a bit late but http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v45/c434/15.html
Here's when Shanks and Whitebeard met up. Yasopp had his name on his arm then.
Didn't like this chapter much, except Buggy and Shanks. It's like the manga itself is fatigued from the war.
I didn't like how most of the big powers are all unharmed. If they are, go fight Shanks. Would have been better if Kizaru, Aokiji, Akainu (who should be more hurt) and the VAs were pretty banged up.
Quick questions. In the last spread, why are there explosions in the background? :-S
Did Blackebeard just admit that he couldnt handle shanks
My only problem with it was Blackbeard, his change of attitude was too sudden and underwhelming, going from "THIS IS MY AGE NOW ZEHAHA" to "i guess i'll just leave quietly" in the course of minutes.
I think the thing with Blackbeard goes back to the Cerberus theory.
So, there could be three versions of Blackbeard which I named as this:
1. "Blackbeard" - The fun loving/the smart self
2. "Sasukebeard" - The overconfident self
3. "Darkbeard" or "Seriousbeard" - The completely serious self (that one appeared a few times only this arc so far)
By this theory, I say the one that said "I guess I'll quietly leave" was the "Blackbeard" self.
:getlost:
Of course he wasn't a Yonkou back then.
What does a Yonkou have to do in East Blue?
He told Luffy the only way to surpass him would be to become PK. That implies he was already a Yonkou the highest title besides PK.
Female Giant still nowhere to be seen. Funny to see Lacroix still alive. One of the giants apparently has a big hole in his chest. Would have liked to see how that happened. Lion dude in Shanks crew looks badass.
Shanks has 9 main crew members like Teach unless San Juan doesn't count. Teach is missing a badass first mate. Burgess and Auger act like it from time to time but too far to weak as his Beckman/Rayleigh/Marco(butters?)/Zoro.
Shanks was in East Blue for the booze.
! And Makino.
A big highlight is the coverchapter for me actually. Was quite surprised, to see non straw hats outside of a coverstory. I'd love to see more, but I think this is a one-shot thing, to fill the gap between the two arcs.
Ending to the whole war arc was so-so. Enjoyed seeing Shank's crew in all it's glory, though.
Well for Kuma i'll say he'll return, in a Dragon-involved arc.
This kuma is dead thing was too easy.
Did i say something obvious right now ?
I imagine we'll soon get a chapter (or part of one) dedicated to a few loose ends of the war. We'll probably see what happens to Buggy and his new crew, likewise with Crocodile and Ivankov, the marines dealing with Coby, reactions from other key players (shichibukai and BB crew, namely) and possibly the situation at Impel Down.
Why is Lucky so huge? Mistake by Oda or can he actually change his size.
Awesome that Oda updated the monkey and bald dude from one of the earlier chapters. Think even some of the others are from a very old color spread.
guys is there any info in the cover of this chapter said that the last adventure of Luffy at the age of 17 OR no more 17 ?? cuz i can not find it at mangastream or Aohige_AP translation ?
Maybe Cobe and Helmeppo will become like Sengoku and Garp.
@Essam:

That concerned Strong World.
iam curious how long we won`t get a coverstory:sad:
@Essam:
u mean not related to the chapter or the time skip ?
t'was in the end of volume 0 i recall, so it was related to Strong World's adventure.
If there's a timeskip, Marineford would be also considered as Luffy's last "canon" adventure at 17.
@Don:

Maybe a timeskip sign ?
still…there's no relation...

I would see it more like a covery-story thing. Sort of like the "Where are they now?" thing, but something like, "After the War" for each of the characters.
"After the War: Akainu Kills a Bunny"
"After the War: Shanks and Buggy Have a Drink."
"After the War: Akainu Kills a Kitten"
"After the War: Coby Faces Garp's Fist of Love"
"After the War: Akainu Kills a Puppy"
Stuff like that.
I didn't like this chapter. The ending to this arc was forced to me. What the chapter did was ensure a certain status quo, one that was said to have been or will be broken. In the end a lot did happen but this chapter made it like they didn't matter that much. Ace and WB deaths didn't amount to much in the end if they would drop the issue so easily. This to me was an unsatisfying conclusion to the war. But I look forward to the future, and hope that those arcs end in a more satisfying way.
The only way I can explain is to make an analogy. Say you wanted a Wii for Christmas and you look under the tree and see a package that looks like it would be a box to the console, and when you shake it, it sounds like a Wii. But come Christmas morning you open it, and you find out it's a crappy 360.
Fixed .
@robbybedfart:
Wait. So.
If Whitebeard had just showed up with Shanks by his side, the government would have just gone "Oh. Well. Screw taking that on. We're done."
The surprise that the marines couldn't predict was Blackbeard betraying them. Now they have to fight Whitebeard's crew + Blackbeard + Shanks. So, Sengoku made the smart choice to end it.
But, had Shanks appeared from the beginning I think the marines will still fight them because Sengoku had plans to trap them and all. And it may still worked out the same, though with more casualties on the marine side.
Shanks is still awesome and all, but the element of surprise that tip the balance was Blackbeard with his new powers.
I would see it more like a covery-story thing. Sort of like the "Where are they now?" thing, but something like, "After the War" for each of the characters.

"After the War: Akainu Kills a Puppy"Stuff like that.
Tought about that too but there's many details for a coverstory.
Even the summerizing chap won't fit.
maybe more than one ? like the post Water 7 ones ? yea then.
:getlost:
Of course he wasn't a Yonkou back then.
What does a Yonkou have to do in East Blue?
Get booze, find some crewmates, make pals, and of course, get some women.
@GaaraofTheDesert:

Will Helmeppo eat the Moses Moses Fruit?
@Get_It_Memorized:
"After the War: Akainu Kills a Bunny"

"After the War: Akainu Kills a Kitten"
"After the War: Coby Faces Garp's Fist of Love"
"After the War: Akainu Kills a Puppy"
"After the War: Sengoku Looks At People With Distaste"
"After the War: Akainu Kills a Fireman"
"After the War: Butters' BIZARRE Adventure"
"After the War: Akainu Kills Peoples' Mustaches. The Douche."
"After the War: Aokiji Gets Promoted for All the Hard Work"
"After the War: Akainu Kills Aokiji"
So "Yasakani no Magatama" is part of a ceremony to enthrone a Japanese Emperor.
It's that and 2 other items Kusanaki the sword meaning valor and Yata no Kagami the mirror meaning wisdom.
I wonder if Luffy will encounter other trials or things of that nature symbolic of the sword and mirror that will signify major steps in his road to becoming pirate king..
edit: wiki
iam a bit dissapointed how BB didnt fight sengoku to the end..would have been a great end match in my eyes… also seeing akainu now stop without saying much against it. but that sengoku gives away the corpses seems plausible for me cause he rly didn
t need them and before risking more lifes against shanks it was sure something he could agree.
^Maybe Lucky simple has grown a little over the past 10 years…
I like Shanks crew. They look more "real" than the slim, pretty boys in Luffy's crew.
Just read the chapter. I know its not a cliffhanger…but dear god I don't want to wait an extra week.
I wonder: seeing as the cover for this week's chapter featured Helmeppo, Coby, and Tashigi, and the past few weeks have had two or more Straw Hat Pirates, does this mean that we'll be getting more diversity in the cover pages from now on?
Also, this chapter just gave me a new avatar. Sure, the stitching on Moria's face is missing, but it's still a funny-looking reaction shot.
@Don:

Remember, Akainu's the marine's personal bitch. He'll leap off a bridge if they told him it would enforce justice.
Apparently they needed the heads to mount on pikes. I have theory the marines were originally formed by Orcs.
Fixed .
Didn't mean anything by the Wii comment. I just want to play Halo Reach, but Monster Hunter looks good too.
And this sums up my impression at hindsight:
An average end to one of One Piece's best arcs.
Maybe it was just that the arc's middle was so good I was expecting an overly awesome end. Though, the thing is, we usually remember the beginning and the end of something and not what happens in the middle. I doubt anyone will forget the death of WB or Ace though, but the end does leave a sour taste in my mouth.

"After the War: Aokiji Gets Promoted for All the Hard Work"
"After the War: Akainu Kills Aokiji"
"After War: Coby gets Promoted"
"After War: Akainu Magma Fist Random People"
"After War: Smoker's Drunken Marriage Proposal"
"After War: Akainu Has Night School with George W. Bush"
"After War: Tashigi Has an Affair with Coby"
"After War: Akainu Kills Random Squirrel while Sengoku Watches"
"After War: Smoker's Sober Divorce"
^ I wondered about that as well… he didn´t seem that big in the first chapter!
As to Shanks being stronger than Mihwak : I really think he is...it´s just the overall vibe of the character. He may be the weaker swordsman, but as an overall fighter I´d say he´s better.
Of course, if there´s any hints saying otherwise, I´ll accept them :) (there´s no choice in that case, anyway ;) )
@Fire Priest:
"After War: Coby gets Promoted"
"After War: Akainu Magma Fist Random People"
"After War: Smoker's Drunken Marriage Proposal"

"After War: Tashigi Has an Affair with Coby"
"After War: Akainu Kills Random Squirrel while Sengoku Watches"
"After War: Smoker's Sober Divorce"
Lol, that is so wrong.
I take for granted that Shanks is stronger than Mihawk, simply beacuse Shanks is a Yonkou and Mihawk a Shichibukai. Mihawk may be the greater swordsman (according to his title) and in a strict sword duel, Mihawk would almost certainly come out the winner. But in a fight, Shanks can have a lot of tricks up his sleeve(s) that makes him superior to Mihawk. For one, we know that Shanks has Haōshoku Haki, which quite certainly is useful in a fight…
So "Yasakani no Magatama" is part of a ceremony to enthrone a Japanese Emperor.

If that's the case, then Scratchmen Apoo has been closer to being the Pirate King than Luffy since this happened to him:
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/510/04/
Unless Oda reveals some epic stuff about Apoo in the future, I don't think these are anything more than attack names.
Maybe Cobe and Helmeppo will become like Sengoku and Garp.
I think more like Garp and Bogart.
nice chapt…thanks for providing and to aohige for better trans :)
do you guys think that law was introduced here in the storyline cause he maybe the most liked SN after urouge?
(kay maybe he is also a doctor^^):happy:
I thought I should pop in and say thanks to all involved for putting in their free effort in doing the translation and scanlations. I don't think its fully appreciated what they do so I can get my weekly dose of goosebumps ala Oda.
Having said that, reading this chapter, what really strikes me is how important the promise Shanks made to Luffy is to Shanks. I mean, the fact that he remembers it, and wants to keep true to the actual intent of the promise shows how much he really intends to keep his bond with Luffy.
And delving further, it seems like Shanks did all this with the express purpose of driving Luffy's growth as a pirate. From his comments to Rayleigh about how he was amazed luffy said the exact same thing as Gol.D Roger, to giving him the hat with the implicit promise that to give back the hat, he'd have to grow as a pirate … its just interesting to see how Shanks how really played a subtle part of his growth ...
@Don:

As things are going now, I can see Luffy and Law having the same relationship as Rodger and Whitebeard as the series goes on.
So any particular reason why blood keeps appearing/disappearing from Akainu's face? Noticed few chapters ago too
