Which Is Better: One Piece Anime Or Manga?
-
-
bahahaha the anime is a sacrilege.
The animators can't draw for shit and the coloring looks like it was done with paint. By the time an episode is over I can read the entire series. The music is shit cos theres only like 4 tracks and they all sound awful. Trumpets in a fight scene? Are you fucking kidding me? Way to give the audience diorrehoe Toei.
How about something relaxing when the crew are just chillin. It lets you just be able to sit back with your feet up and be like "hah look Luffy's at it again" and then maybe some badass dnb when youve got the high speed battles. Except the anime has no high speed battles just people standing around like theyve got bricks stuck to their feet and poles in thier anus swiping at eachother in between 2 hour intervals of characters just standing there.
The manga on the other hand, you can read at your own pace and imagine the audio yourself. You can also be like me and take it a step further, imagining that Luffy still wears red and blue instead of seizure inducing yellow and purple or whatever Oda's given him nowadays
-
After watching that one episode where Luffy fights Magellan and Bon-Clay took the camera and ran off with it, I never wanted to watch the anime ever again.
I'll usually watch an anime clip for a certain scene to see if they did it right or fucked it up from the manga, but man, I see that the anime staff love to stall time the horrific way.
-
They've been doing especially shit-tastic on the latest couple of episodes.

Your trolling is about as good as your spelling.
-
I don't know, the anime may provide awesomeness from time to time.
I also quite like a few the older episodes, bits and pieces of Enies Lobby, the G-8 arc, the VA's, and some various other things. But the anime has proven to be shoddy on more than a few occasions, even more so with the later episodes.
All in all the manga is unquestionably better, no matter how selective or lenient one may be in judging the anime.

haha you rodent, trying to throw a blanket over my words. Check out my joined date. My thoughts are genuine. Now scurry away in fear.

Well that's even more concerning then, because if you honestly believe this;

You are either extremely ignorant, stupid, or both.

just think how the war will look in full color and action! i love the manga but love the anime more
Ooooooh I can't wait for the anime version of the Marineford arc. 14-17 pages stretched out so it fills 20 minutes of an episode? I mean that HAS to end well - right?
Seriously, Marineford in the anime is gonna be even more dragged out than Enies Lobby in the anime. 15 minutes of the episodes is gonna be like this:
still shot explosions
nameless pirates fight fodder marines
Doflamingo: This is getting interesting!
nameless pirates fight fodder marines
Luffy is running…
... and running...
... and running
5 minute still shot of Whitebeard
5 minute still shot of Emo Ace
Luffy is runningIt's gonna be great.

High five!

I give up, I didn't realise there was such widespread hatred for the anime.
But half you guys talk as if you've never even watched it and the last thing the struggling western One Piece fandom needs is some stupid manga/anime elitism.Come on guys, this isn't 4chan, can't we just get along.
-
But the anime sucks, though… I only watch it to waste time, hear voices and see fights animated. If I wasn't watching it for free, I wouldn't be watching it at all.
-
Although I rarely, or let's say never agree with Herackles, he is right on this one. The anime just suckz ballz, in comparison with the manga of course.
I even prefer the fight- and action scenes in the manga. Oda knows how to draw them and I totally understand everything.

Add some filler battles with the NW captians and VAs and it's masterpiece.

Forgot 100 reaction shots each for Whitebeard and Ace:getlost:
-
Yeah, this thread was a bad idea.
But if I can throw my two cents in, the manga is the original source, but the anime is pretty sweet too.
-
Come on guys, this isn't 4chan, can't we just get along.
Yes, a group of people disagreeing w/you totally makes this 4chan.
-
Hey I am on the Anime is better Bandwagon too, it is, IT IS!!

@The:

Its not that people are disagreeing with me, that's fine everyone has their own opinion. Its when people support their argument with lies and the equivalent of
'the anime is shit, hurr, hurr, hurr, only retards watch that', like this quote, that I despair. The animators can't draw for shit and the coloring looks like it was done with paint. So trumpets in a soundtrack make Herackles despair… Well, he's going to be in for a very rude awakening if he ever pays attention to movie soundtracks or anything like that.
I'm pretty much with dan on this. It's alright to disagree and such, but when you bash something in such a childish way that gives the impression that you don't know what you're talking about, then there's a problem.
-

Read the post wrong, Dan was saying that the post makes him despair. :P
I don't disagree w/Herac though
-
No, I read it right.

Too bad for him that there are actually over three-hundred and fifty tracks for this show, but I enjoy the anime, so naturally I don't have any taste or standing whatsoever.
-
I wonder if the violins in DBZ anger him as well? Of course, anything was better than the generic rock track Saban had for the Ocean dub.
-
No, I read it right.
Oh, thought you were referring to this…
like this quote that I despair.
-
No but seriously, they may have 50 gagillion tracks, but they only use like 4 - 5 of them.
-
I can't even believe people would rather watch the show then the comic. It's impossible.
-

I appreciate the support. Its nice to see there are at least some reasonable people around here.

shit bitch. What do movie soundtracks have to do with anything. Were discussing cartoons.

It's how I feel and I refuse to censor my thoughts. I've seen almost every non-filler episode so don't go thinking I have no idea what's going on here. a single monkey on a typewriter could do a better job at the anime adaption than Toei.
No but seriously, they may have 50 gagillion tracks, but they only use like 4 - 5 of them.
See this guy knows how to think. He's gotten straight to the point while all you mouth breathers are still trying to get me with "duuuh wait a second counts fingers theres more than 5. your dumb".

mangas are better, animes are bullshits.
The best example would be how Eyeshield turned out to be…. shudder
-
Just thought I'd ask what people think is better, the One Piece anime or manga?
manga.
and then you can go back and watch your fave scenes in animation later.

Certain anime adaptations are wonderfully faithful to the manga, actually. Naoki Urasawa's Monster, for instance.
But while I do like some elements of the anime, I do agree that they get really lazy with it. The faces are drawn poorly all the time, and they try to get away with bad artwork when they think the viewers won't notice. The animation could be smoother, too. It probably comes from knowing that people will watch no matter what since One Piece is so famous already, but I wish they'd try harder or at least care more.
Doesn't mean I don't still enjoy the great voice acting, though. I like seeing how the animators interpret certain panels.
-
and then there are animes that came first, like Bebop and Champloo.
Whose manga adaptations are pointless at best.
-
@JERK:

I'd like to throw in Escaflowne in that as well. Granted, the manga was based on character sketches before the final designs were chosen due to the anime delays. Still, it was pretty jarring seeing a curvy Hitomi with glasses and pigtails.
-
Ugh, some people here put too much thought into this shit.
You like what you like. It's as simple as that. There shouldn't be no "But, I don't understand how you can like –-- over ----"...
Just shut the fuck up. Who gives a flying fuck if you can't understand it, that's the persons preference and that's all you need to know.

Well I've been stewing over a response to this I finally came up with my own personal answer. I like both but I do have preferences as to which I prefer more when it comes to specific arcs.
When it comes to East Blue through Alabasta I prefer the anime version. Funny thing is that I've been comparing both the anime and manga for the Sixth Voyage set and I think the anime does a lot of things in terms of camera angles and placement better (not all the time, but most of the time).
With Skypiea and beyond I usually default to the manga being the superior version but there are tons of cases where specific scenes are just enhanced by the anime. Luffy vs. Usopp, The Oar Fight, The Celestial Dragon Incident, The Strawhat Separation, and Bink's Sake come to mind.
Another thing is that Oda may be a master at his craft but usually when there is a lot of action going on in the manga I have to do a double-take and usually study to page to make sense of what's going on. This is why I'm really looking forward to the Whitebeard War saga in the anime because I can actually get how things look in full color.
I have a friend who completely dumped the Naruto Shippuden anime (I mean, way after the first arc) because he was reading the manga. While I agreed that if that's the way he wanted to keep up with Naruto from that point on it was fine but I actually just marathoned a bunch of episodes (113-133) of stuff I read in the manga and in a lot of cases the anime enhanced a lot of the stuff the manga did and came off much more effective (especially in the case of a certain character's demise).
It's all preference but I thought I would expand upon my own personal thoughts.
O-chan

I watched the anime up until the end of Amazon Lily then carried on with the manga throughout Impel Down to the current point. Since I did that, the anime looks kind of cheap and rushed out. I'm not sure if the ID arc in the anime is just kinda low budget or if I've been spoiled by the manga. Regardless, I still have VERY fond memories of the anime and really look forward to Marineford being animated, scored and VA'd.

DUHUR CANT FIGURE OUT EASY PICTURES???

Belittling others for having their opinions on a subject is not the best way to convince others to see things from your perspective.
Anyway, I do believe that the anime does have an advantage when it comes to introducing new people to One Piece. When a person has no connection to the characters and has little knowledge of the story it takes something visual to get them interested much of the time.
So do you show the potential One Piece fan a manga page with Luffy Vs. Crocodile or do you show them an animated segment? I think that you will find more people will gain interest in the series by being exposed to some of the pivotal moments in the anime and this will cause them to gain interest in the story and in the future even buy the manga.
-
The anime is like "Hooked on Phonics" for people who don't like the manga and have creative and/or reading difficulty.

You're no better for doing this, however. But you won't learn. You're that kind of fan, after all.
