Actually Dan and Carter had completely fallen out even before that, about longer than half-a-year. Carter tried keeping it under wraps because he thought people liked Dan and thought maybe it'd be ~messy~ if he went and publicly got pissy.
But then I guess like Gohn everyone came to realize "oh nevermind Dan is just a GIANT FUCKING COCK and NOBODY WANTS HIM AROUND." Instead of maturing with the forum, he remained the big douchebag he was and he tried justifying it by saying "I'm an asshole and if you don't like it too bad!" While everyone else on the forum is enjoying their time together and developing further as a community, he's too busy still modfucking around and dicking on members he didn't like.
Which was everyone. God he just had stupid arbitrary reasons for hating everyone. TABOO SUCKS HOW GAY THAT SHE'S DRAWING ME IN A COMIC UGH THAT'S SO LAME WHY CAN'T SOMEBODY COOLER DRAW ME IN A COMIC. It's funny because as a big manchild who cried about having no friends, it was kind of fucking obvious that all he was doing was alienating people by being a GIANT FUCKING COCK.
Anyways, despite having left in like September because ARGH I HATE CARTER AND HIS GAY FORUM he tried staying around in livejournals and AIM. Didn't work (he just went crazier). It culminated last night, where (as the owner of the #newporkcity IRC channel) he went and set up an auto-kick and auto-ban for Carter like the mature and refined individual he was. But get this. He set up that auto-ban 14 days ago. But because Carter just leaves the IRC open constantly, it wasn't until he restarted his computer last night that it took effect.
So for about a grand total of ten minutes Carter was trapped outside the IRC channel. Then it turned out H Cuz had Dan's password. So he just logged in as Dan and transfered admin/ownership of the channel to Carter.
The great grand last stand of Pandaman Dan. What an upstanding faggot!

Basically every single person on the forum was on your side when it happened, so I don't think there's much reason for you to feel embarrassed.
Also, since the minute I have given Dan the boot I have had people constantly asking me "so can we try to get snarf back now?" So there's basically no ill thought towards you.
It'd be great if you came back. I never approached you about it because I figured you were busy, and frankly, I've been embarrassed by everything Dan's done and have felt responsible for essentially enabling it.
I wanted to send you an e-mail apologizing for his behavior and wishing you luck, but again, I always felt too embarrassed and did not want to bother you.
Dan is basically someone who I regret ever being friends with. This is a statement going back over at least 10 years, if that's any indication of anything.

It's weird, when I first joined I got these vague rumours about a place called NPC, a place where the forum was filled with outstanding posts and the mods were the most chilled bunch you'd ever hope to meet. A virtual paradise that was a constant contrast to the dire state Arlong Park was in at the time. Rumour had it that if you tried your hardest and posted well enough then the gates might just slide open for you. So I set off on my merry journey to be the bestest poster in the land and join up with the cool kids!
And then I learnt a little more about it and discovered it was a closed community of tight-knit friends. Bam, enthusiam gone. I don't need friends, I've got my own. I don't really want to make the effort to get to know another group of people.

I don't know all the details myself, but basically it sounds like Dan went into this big ol' depression phase and rather than trying to do something about it and listen to some honest advice, he started acting like a tremendous cock to everyone, I mean, more than usual.
Its kinda sad because Carter is pretty spot on about everything in that post, especially the whole "tiptoeing" thing.

I never responded because, frankly, it seemed like you had a really, really , really unhealthy fixation with me and I did not want to fuel it by responding. And I hoped you would have gotten worn out and moved on. But I guess I was wrong.
I never hacked your One Piece wiki or whatever you think I did, and I don't constantly concoct schemes to harass people on THE INTERNET anymore. I've kind of grown out of that.
