Hello this is my first time posting on the Arlong Park Forums.
I'm a relative newcomer to anime, so whilst I was looking for some new anime to watch, I was reccomended to watch One Piece. I'm a big fan of pirate movies namely Pirates of the Carribean so I was eager to start watching so I went out and bought Season One: First Voyage.
Now I thought why not post my episode/arc reviews on here. I'd also appreciate it if you didn't spoil it for me, but if you must at least be kind enough to cover the spoiler up or warn me before hand. So here goes, and feel free to also go back to the beggining and watch the series with me.
Episode 1: 4/5
This was a really good opener to an anime. It had a simple plot, likeable charachters and some decent action. This episode seemed to be a bit of everything which I liked. The comedy was good, and Luffy seems to be a good main charachter. I'm not too keen on Coby, he seems annoying but I liked the villian but I don't think there would be much potential for her to come back seeing as Luffy was able to defeat her easily and he's bound to get stronger. But then again she could get stronger as well. There could have been more action though what we got was good enough. So overall a good episode.
Episode 2: 5/5
What a brilliant episode. I really liked Zoro, he's funny and apparently he's strong and ruthless which is a plus for me. I liked the villians in this episode, and I would have done what Luffy did and hit that cocky b*****d. Coby was still kind of annoying in this episode but I like how he's decided to get involved and stop the marines. Captian Morgan looks to be an intresting villian and I'm looking forward to the fight between Luffy and him which is inevitable. Also can't wait for Zoro to get untied and kick some ****as it's only fair seeing that they were planning to kill him. Glad they ended the episode with Luffy declaring he's going to be King of the Pirates which is quite a bold staement and leaves it on a nice ending as you know he's going to stop the marines cause they interfere with his dreams, as opposed to him getting shot because you know he's going to survive. A excellent episode and congratulations to the author for creating such a fantastic series.
Episode 3: 4/5
This episode was very good but it did have some minor flaws. Whilst it was nice to see a battle, I wish it could have been longer and more action orientated seeing as Morgan barely did anything. And also seeing as the villian was defeated quite quicky and a lot of the episode was just talking was also a kind of a letdown but it was ok. But there were lots of good things. For starters, glad to see the back of Coby, wasn't too keen on him but liked how he stood up to the marines. The hostage sequence was ok as was the rest of the showdown. I really like Zoro and Luffy's scenes together they make me laugh. I liked it when Zoro thought Luffy he had a crew and a ship, and also how Luffy ate more than a man who had barely eaten in almost a month. The ending was nice, Luffy and Zoro sailing off together into the unknown and also the marines letting them go and saluting and then going without food for 3 days was poignant for me. I also wonder who the girl is, seems to be some sort of pirate and who is Buggy? I have a feeling he's a pirate too and that Luffy will meet him eventually. A very good episode.
What a strong start to the series and if what I've heard then this series is going to keep on getting better and better! From what I understand these episodes complete the Captain Morgan Arc so I'll post an arc review later.
Now here's what I want to know: what did you think of episodes 1-3? Good? Bad? What did you think of the characters when you first met them? Additional Thoughts? Feel free to tell me.
