Im a very stingy person, so i have a great time trying to conserve and retain all my earnings thus i dont buy volumes since therres fan sub…..(i know u buy it to support....)
i dont think authors get a huge amount of cash (he probably gets anually salary)....i say as long as fan subs continues....i will save a ton of money.....dont stop translating because of this topic... keep up the good work, Soldier of RETAINMENTS

first reason is because i am german and i want to read it in german too
and the other ist that i love oda and i want that his Manga´s get buy by lots of peoplefan subs are great because we can have every week a new chapter, but i want to support Oda, so i buy it too
and also the volumes looks great in my cabinet o_O /) ( in german there are 35 Volumes )

One reason for buying a volume is to support the author and his/her work, yes. But another one could be the ALL-AROUND FEEL of the manga.
If I would be allowed to use my own experiences: I love Rurouni Kenshin. I've been buying the manga volumes as they came out, but my curiosity got the better of me and I downloaded a few volumes online. Up until around 24 or 25, the quality of the translation itself was decent… But being able to pick up and hold a manga in your own two hands is a God-given blessing. It just FEELS right.
... If you're talking about the anime... Go ahead and download K-F. Hell if you'll get anywhere waiting for 4Kids to do anything worthwhile. That, I think, you can do without much loss.

Probably everybody knows by now, but just a note…
1. Manga-ka doesn't get paid salary. They get paid for whatever they sold.
2. Manga-ka's main income comes from Tanko, not magazine. (Afaik, magazine income doesn't even cover salary to pay assistants.)
3. SO GO BUY TANKO!!
