Sakura Con 2010 - Let's Meet Luffy's VA

So Sakura Con is just over 1 month away from today, and with Mayumi Tanaka as one of the special guests of honor, of course I'll be attending in One Piece cosplay. Since I've never actually flown out to a convention before, I decided to not bring huge props like I normally do, so I'm going to cosplay as Classic Usopp. No Kabuto because I doubt I can make it collapseable into a bag somehow, no Sogeking mask because I can't bring Kabuto.

Cosplay.com does not have an official OP gathering scheduled yet, so I'm just curious to see if any cosplayers here are planning to attend, and for a possible meet up. Let's greet Luffy's Voice Actress in style!

I've got the outfit together already (Lucci's CP9 outfit), seeing how it's a pretty simple cosplay. All I need to do is draw on his goatee/eyebrows and curl my hair beforehand. I'm kind of worried - my hair might be a bit too brown and it's gotten kind of long.. hope making the curls will shrink the length enough. Also the fact that I've got yellow-green eyes might look weird.. wish I had black contacts.

Also I need to get a Hattori.. even though I've been collecting tons of beanie babies and other stuffed animals since I was little, I can't find a single white bird… Arggh x_x;

Also, does anyone who's gone before know how the parking situation is around the con? I might have to stay at a hotel that isn't within walking distance.

There are quite a few parking lots and parking garages in the block around the convention center, so you shouldn't have any trouble with that. It shouldn't be too pricey either.
I recommend the garages over the ordinary lots, since you run less of a chance of getting vandalized that way, but they're a bit more expensive.

Don't park in the parking garages unless you wanna spend a lot. If you get the early bird special (in by 930 out by.. like 6 I think.) it's 14 bucks, but if you don't make it that early since there's really no reason too it's going to bust your balls. I think I parked in the convention center parking lot from 11-3:50 the other day and it was like 18 bucks.

If you really wanna save, though, ark your car up on Capitol Hill in one of the residential areas for free, bus/walk to your hotel the first day. Then just walk to the convention center until your last day when you leave. That's what I did last year. Don't know how many days you're planning on going.

Looks like I'm working on my Law costume this weekend. Stoked!

Just gimme an intersection or two cause I dont know Seattle well but I know google maps well.
I'm not even paying for a hotel so if I do go to sleep, It will be about a one mile walk/run to my car :ninja:

You underestimate parking in Los Angeles, where downtown all-day parking can run you up to $20, and that's not even at the event site. Thankfully, L.A. Convention Center only charges about $12-15 for Anime Expo, but if you're going to a Laker game…expect $25 minimum.

Not staying at a hotel frees up parking money for me.

So it's tomorrow, and there's no official OP cosplayer gathering on Cosplay.com. Oh well. Look for 2 Fail Luffys on Friday (Obahan Time Luffy and Amazon Lily Frilly Vest Luffy ) and a classic Luffy and Usopp on the other days. See you all at the panels! ^_^

I was stationed at Sub base Bangor for five years and every time a con came up I was deployed…

If you can get to a resturant named Todai, it's pricy but well worth it. Oh and the Seattle underground tour is the shiz if your big on history. I almost miss that place.

Some fucking awesome cosplay here at Sakura Con. I've very impressed by the OP love. The people here are really great as well. Pics will be posted probably on Monday. There's a photo gathering today that I'm going to attend…at least, unless my nose falls off. <.<

dirt monkey wasn't in cosplay. She was plainclothes but reporting. It was iroha as one of the Luffy cosplayers.

That OP photoshoot was fun, unorganized, and weird. Full story eventually.

I… I... can't even describe how awesome the OP cosplay is, how awesome it is that you got to see and take pictures of Mayumi Tanaka and she was so excited about OP cosplay and all the fans, and in general it makes my heart sink and makes me sad that there was NO WAY that my sis and I could go T___T weeps you guys who live in CA and think 'man I can't go to Sakuracon it's too far!' try living in Oklahoma... where NOTHING good is xD

If anyone's wondering, the person in the yellow cape is supposed to be Shanks. She didn't really have an actual cosplay, so we borrowed a cape from the Jango cosplayer and threw a bunch of other stuff together to make it. PTTTF. Next year we're getting her a Shanks cosplay that isn't as flamboyant.

And everyone's cosplays were AMAZING. Eerie looked just like Law, all of Ichnob's were awesome and extremely well-made, and I LOVED Melon's Ivankov. Both of the Boa's were really impressive too, along with the Coby and Helmeppo- My jaw dropped when I saw them! The crazy-tall Perona with the thriller bark Usopp were one of my favorites, you could see the effort they put into it and they were super nice too. I felt kind of embarrassed with my Lucci cosplay in comparison to all the amazing OP cosplayers, great job everyone! __

I got my picture taken quite a lot so I'm waiting for some to surface. My friend I was with on Saturday should have some, too. So far, the picture with Ichnob as Usopp is the only one I have.

edit: I was also at the OP gathering, too, but not on the side with all the damn Mugiwara's. I'm sure they'll turn up.

OH MY GOD.
First of all, congratulations for everyone who met Ms. Tanaka and got to take a picture with her! So sweet! Sadly USA is as far as Japan for me, but if any of the super Seyu OP cast ever comes to any area close to mine (as in European area because no way in hell anybody would ever visit our rotten Russian cons heh) - I'd tottaly try make it there!

Second - WOW. Hands down, BEST American OP gathering I've ever seen.
Just. FANTASTIC. 99% of cosplays were impressive.
Ichnob's Usopp was fantastic, one of the best Usopps ever I've seen, so fitting and accesoaries are just BEYOND amazingness. My love for Spork and Hole knows no edges, too. I just need to mention Law and Franky as well.

Ichnob's Usopp was definitely amazing! His costume looks very professional looking, from his actual costume to his overalls, even the nose. Definitely one of the best if not the best Usopp I've seen. It bugs me when paley white dudes cosplay Usopp.. Ichnob shows you exactly why they'll just never compare to someone who's already similiar in color. :)

I think that's a horrible thing to say D: I've seen black guys cosplay Ace, and white guys cosplay Usopp, and they've looked fantastic!

And might I add, my sis is one of the WHITEST GIRLS ON THE PLANET, and she makes one HELL of an amazing Usopp. No one can beat Ichnob's badass Usopp of coarse, but to say that because someone's 'light skinned' they can't pull off Usopp? That's just WRONG o_o

It's just like someone thinking that people shouldn't cosplay tall people if they're short, I can't help my skin color OR my height, and many others can't either, so it's just wrong to say that :(

While it's cool to have the skin tone, honestly, that's one thing you can't really fix. It's something that I had to get over when I first started cosplay, because I'm way too tan to actually cosplay a good Sanji.

On a similar note, I'm way to tan to be Beckman. Might as well try it with makeup on this time. looks up tutorials on how to be paler iroha and binkx helped me out a lot for makeup, especially blending the nose and lips.

And I was near the front of the photoshoot, and from what I saw she actually did splash Mayumi Tanaka with the (dirty!) water from the fountain. RAGE.
