Wahahahaha what the hell? It's awesome that we get a DQ on the Wii but the DQ series has a reputation for "simmering in the pot" as they say. There was like a 6 year difference between the release dates of DQ7 and DQ8 (I have no idea if it's really 6 years though but you get the idea) so I wonder when the hell this would be released. Hell, DQ9 is coming out in 2009, like 5 years after DQ8 in Japan, so come on! Wish it was for the next generation so we won't notice how outdated it will by the time it comes out in like 2013.

It's hard to believe DQVIII came out back in 2004. I beat the game earlier this year after years of playing it… God damn, that game is awesome.
-
This isn't much of a surprise . Well, VIII was nice so I don't mind about more of the same.
The whole deal with 3D Castevanias has much more to do with the talent (or lack of it) of those who are involved then with those games being in 3D.
-
The game is due out in Europe on the 20th February! We are getting it after the US this time, but it's the same week so that's not too bad at all.
-
This is not bad at all when you think about Chrono Trigger DS being released in Europe 3 months after both the japanese and the us releases.
I'm looking forward to this DQ V since I never played it.
-
Just a few days away from its release, haven't heard anything about delays so we should get it this month.
-
Looking forward to this, one of the greatest RPG's of all time. And the UK release date is only a few days after the us, so for once, I don't have to import.
-
I think that DQ IV and V were actually localized (er, "localised") in Great Britain, and there is very little difference between NTSC and PAL DS carts. That's probably why the UK and US versions come out so close together. But hey, that's good for everyone, right?
-
Well, I just married Debora. She's… really a bitch. The game still pushes the Bianca marriage, but now Flora's a lot more sympathetic. Debora's put in there for a third option, but you're more discouraged than encouraged to pick her, it's hilarious.
EDIT: Do you, [Hero] take Debora, to love and cherish, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall be resurrected from death in the church? (I lol'd)
-
Damn how many hours did it take you to get there?
Well I'ma get holed up in my room later on to start my addiction XD -
I think i'll just pass on this one,
I'll wait for the ps2 translation of this game to come out.
It should be almost done. -
V is probably my least favorite out of the Zenithia saga (IV being my favorite.). But, it's still a fun and challenging game from what I've played of the fan translation. Plus, it has Papas, so that's an automatic plus in my book.
Didn't SE also use some elements from the PS2 remake, like having 4 party members instead of 3?
-
I got my copy today and it's not out in the UK until Friday.
-
I own the PS2 version, but the language barrier and load times were frustrating. I use a flip-top PS2 with Swap Magic. I heard about that translation project when I lurked Woodus's boards four or five months ago, but I'm still getting this. Portability, legitimacy, and more content, yo.
EDIT: Oh, and it took me about nine hours to get married. Notice that the timestamp is from past 3 AM (US Eastern).
-

It should be almost done.Unless you own the PS2 ver. of the game (not having DLed it or Torrented it), you are one cheap fellow :P

I'm one of 'em annoyed europian people.
That are actually being screwed over when it comes down to getting RPG's.
So that's why i download most of my games. At least, that's how i justify my not so legal downloads :P

So that's why i download most of my games.Ouch, well the UK ver. was released at around the same time as the US one, so you could've gotten it for the NDS at a decent price :P
At least, that's how i justify my not so legal downloads :P
My only justification is that I don't have enough income to make up for my purchases ;_;
…but when it comes to DQ, even if I have to wait a month for it and I already am playing the ROM, I'll still get the original copy :) -
Been doing some good progress with the game-
! I am about to get the Carpet. The town that has the carpet has some interesting armours but I'll hold off buying them since my party is still capapble of taking a beating and paying back in full due.
The kids are at Lvl. 20 BTW, I was lucky enough to kill a few Liquid Metal Slimes in the cave south of Gotha. -
I beat it yesterday, and finished the bonus dungeon this morning. My main part is the four family members, a Golem, an Archdemon, a Great Dragon, and a Healslime.
Hint: definitely do the third, fourth, and fifth T n T boards. They can yield some really good equipment. The fourth one has a free T n T pass as one of its prizes, so do that one first. The final one has Falcon Swords, Yggdrasil Dew, all four pieces of Metal King equipment, and huge numbers of stat seeds and small medals. There's even a shop that sells Flails of Destruction and Meteorite Bracers. I already bought a Metal King Shield with 50 small medals, and I have 35 more that I'm going to try and spend towards another shield.
-
^Where can I find the 3rd~5th TnT boards?
Also any tips to eating Bjourn? My characters are in their mid 20 levels (the kids are Lvl. 20-ish)
-
Bjorn's kind of tricky. The key is keeping your defense up with Kabuff and keeping his defense down by using the Zenithian Sword to remove his Buff and using Sap or Kasap. Also, heal constantly and use Oomph to boost your offense. If you're still having trouble (which is understandable), then you might want to wait until The Son learns Multiheal at level 30.
The 3rd T n T board is in the Fairie continent, which you'll revisit later. The 4th T n T board is in Nadiria, directly south of Mt. Zugzwang on the other side of the poisonous marsh. The last board is in the Bonus Dungeon near the entrance, but is only accessible once you've beaten the boss of the Bonus Dungeon.
-
OK thanks for the help, BTW is there a place to quickly gain levels other than south of Gotha?
-
Well… from where you are in the game right now... I'm not sure. You should definitely have the Magic Carpet from Lofty Peak if you don't already. The best spot for leveling until the endgame is probably either the cave north of Whealbrook (accessible with the Magic Carpet) or wherever you need to advance the plot next.

Any tips for getting a lot of casino tokens quick?
-
Here's how I did it-
Buy 50-100 tokens
Save ur game
Go to the 1 token or slot machines and place 9 tokens and keep playing them till you get around 1000+ tokens (you may get lucky eventually)
After getting 1000+ tokens, save your game
Now go to the 10 token slot machine and place 90 tokens and keep playing til you get 10,000+ tokens
Save your game
Now go to the 100 token slot machine, place 900 and keep playing till you get enough tokens to buy whatever equipment you want.
Reset when you used up all your tokens or are unsatisfied with the results.Within 2 hours or so I managed to get a good enough Tokens to purchase the stuff from the casinos.
I bought 3 Falcon Earrings for my 3 slimes and a Metal King Sword for the Hero, the Falcon earrings are good for fighting Metal slimes, but the MKS is great for overall damage. -
Thanks, I'll give it a go. I was playing in the monster arena for a while, but it would take ages to get enough for the MKS.
Is it better to play in Fortuna or the boat?
-
Either is fine, I only did it at Fortuna so far, the prizes at the Boat are the same IIRC.
-
OK an update on quick token gain that I just learned this far into the game-
In Fortuna's casino, go to the 2nd Machine from the left in the back row (the 10 token ones). Apparently this one has a higher chance of gaining tokens from it.One more thing I forgot to mention; if you do get a lot of tokens even if it isn't the amount I mentioned, save and then play again til you get a lot more.
-
I managed to get enough tokens for the MKS and the earrings in a couple of hours doing what you said. I got 10,000 tokens now so I might try and get the Gringham whip.
-
I'm nearing the end of the game, where them Metal King Slimes at?!
-
You find MKS in the final dungeon and in the Bonus Dungeon. The best place to get them is in the Bonus Dungeon, in the floor before Estark.
But yeah, don't stick to the 10-coin slots for long. After about an hour at the 100-coin slots I got five watermelons for 300,000. The chances are much, much easier than those in DQ IV or even DQ VIII.
-
Got my Gringham whip now! Go enough tokens left to buy another pair of Falcon earrings as well. I was a bit disappointed to see both casino's had the same item though.
-
Just completed it, 20 hours(With 2 of those being pure casino time, heh).
I chose the new choice when it came to ring of fire/water time(don't want to spoil it for anyone who doesn't already know), which was fun.
The most striking thing about the remake is Gema/Ladja. In the original, the final confrontation between him and the hero was completely anticlimactic, and was the weakest point of the game. The remake gives a far more satisfying resolution.
Needless to say, I'm very happy with the way Enix handled the remake.

i got a question, which monster u think is the best 1? and is Metal Slim Family, recruit able? i have been killing them like 30-40 "metal slim" already, and none join
-
Metal Slimes and Liquid Metal Slimes are recruitable, but the chances are ridiculous, usually 1/256. I don't think they're worth it, since they have a low recruitment rate AND a low appearance rate AND they run away often. They're pretty good at magic offense and learn a few good skills, but not worth the time and effort to recruit them.
As for best monster, that's tricky. The two secret monsters at the endgame are probably the two strongest monsters in the game, since they have absurd stats at level 99, but that's too much of a time investment to be practical. My favorite monsters are Great Dragons, but despite their awesome stats, awesome attacks, and immunity to fire and ice attacks, their defense will always be poor since their equipment selection blows.
I'd recommend you check out Slime Knights, Healers, and Golems. Slime Knights are found really early, have solid stats, learn Fullheal, can use great equipment, and level up to 99. Healers are only medium-hard to recruit, learn every important healing spell in the game other than Kazing, and also level up to 99. Golems have awesome attack and defense, can equip really good equipment, and have a very nice offensive skillset. Those three monsters are easy to find, easy to recruit, and will be useful at every point in the game. Trust me, Metal Slimes aren't worth it.
-
and another question, is saber going to be a useless pet?, i find his hp and stat r low….i got slime knight, that metal amour guy"clank is his name" and saber in my party. After the wedding biance join, so i change slime knight for her, U think i should throw saber out and get slime knight b to the party line-up?
-
Saber is fairly strong, but Slime Knight learns fullheal, if I remember right, which is rather useful, so I'd go with that. You can keep Saber levelling up in the wagon, so you can compare the stats anyway.
But Lazzie is right, Golem blasts pretty much anything else out of the water apart from endgame pick ups like gigantes and the secret postgame stuff. He can fully equip one of the best equipment sets too, and he has one of the best spells in the game, meditate, which heals for 0 MP.
-
Hah. I just realised what Dr Agon's name meant. This was before he transformed though.
-
You guys do know you can recruit
! Dwight da White Dwarf right?
He's in my party and kicking ass at Lvl. 27, by the time he is Lvl. 40 I expect him to be as strong as the Hero -
His only real plus is his agility though. Golem is far stronger and has meditate. ^_^
-
Ah whatever, I plan to get as many of my member to Lvl. 99 as I can :)
Oh and I think I DO have a Golem >=) -
Use it, it can equip the metal equipment set!
I don't think 99 is really necessary. At 30-40 the strongest boss can be beaten with a bit of work, so at 40-50 and you'll be defeating the strongest boss without raising a sweat.
-
I know but its just an accomplishment I want to achieve :), I mean just watch the vid in the very first post of this thread.
-
I just watched that video and damn he looked hard. Were those normal slimes fighting him? I really don't feel like training 3 slimes or anyone to level 99. I think I'm just gonna skip him altogether.
-
Well that is the boss of the bonus dungeon, if you are at a high level you can beat him, its just that Slimes are about as half as strong as the hero.
-
I beat the boss of the bonus dungeon without dying with characters around level 40-45 (Hero and son were 44-45, Golem was somewhere from 35-40, and Great Dragon was at level 12). I beat him in 21 turns, and apparently he gives you a special item if you beat him in 15 turns or less. Well, I have some more leveling to do….
And also: the final T n T board is a huge pain. I beat it with three rolls left, and a whole lotta luck. The final monsters are pretty neat, though.
-
I've entered the underworld, but I'm missing the Zenithian Armor. Have I missed it or do I get it later?
-
You've missed it.
Location:
! It's in the guard post to your right immediately after you enter the mountain temple that only the zenithian dragon can get you to.
-
So I'm training my Golem, he's kicking serious ass with Falcon Blade and Meteorite Bracelet equipped >=)
Oh and I managed to kill 2 Metal King Slimes in a row!
