I know one who wouldn't fit in.
I won't go into details, but let's just say he's rather blue, fat and without the slightest sense of humour.
What are you talking about?
Papa Smurf would so fit in.

Or maybe my native language is not english, and since my native language says "sinergia", I just didn't remember that the word in english is written with a "y".
got it. Out of curiousity, which Spanish speaking nation do you come from?

Huh. Looks at thread title We must have done a good job if you think Jinbei is already a Strawhat.

Amen to that one.
To be honest, I've always seen Franky in the same catogary as Sanji in terms of goofiness meets seriousness, so I've never had this issue with him interacting with the crew come up.
Seems to get on great with Usopp, Chopper and Robin in particular, although Luffy's had a decent amount with him too.
When we get back, hopefully we'll see him get a chance to develop some relationships with the rest of the crew.
I used to say Robin. She didn't fight much for the crew's sake, she was very much plot driven rather than character driven. If something needed explaining, Robin was there to do explain to the readers what something was.
Obviously she's too serious a character to perform a face fault.
She's softened up, and become more social, but out of them all, I still say she's the odd one out.
Huh. Looks at thread title We must have done a good job if you think Jinbei is already a Strawhat.
Quoting myself: I know one who wouldn't fit in.
I also know someone who would, with a unique design, a "strawhatishly" slim figure, humorous personality attributes, an army of explosive mood-altering ghosts (typical straw hat) and a good mood variety.
(Though, I shouldn't be turning this into a Next Nakama thread, so never mind)
Once we figure out who Franky's pirate family is and the crew gets involved with his "brother" who lives in the new world he will get his time to flesh out even more. But I thought Ennis Lobby did allot to have him connect with the crew, Usopp and Robin specificaly.
Brother? Did I miss something, I knew he had pirate blood in him, but I didn't see a brother in the likes. Can someone post where it said that?
On topic: I think Franky and Brooke fits in, it's just they barely joined the crew and about them getting defeated and separated by Kuma made it worse for them to bond. Hope when the crew gets back together, Oda shows more personality for both Franky and Brooke.
Whoever joins next won't fit in that well. The crew has great chemistry as it is right now.
don't say the about bon-ch….. wait a second never mind we don't want it becoming one of those threads
idk brook's design is awesome but he kind of lacks character and robin isn't funny but we do need someone serious in the group

I figure you knew well enough what the topic was and wouldn't just leave it without prompting. I have more faith in you than that. What people expect and what they want are frequently different, after all.
Nice job trying to cover it up, though. I was almost convinced.
After Zoro i'd probably place Robin.
Luffy in his own way he has a very close bond to everyone. But he seems to be closes to Chopper, Usopp, Franky and Brook, when it comes to hanging out. Just cause they are all a bunch of idiots.
Zoro has an older brother vibe for chopper, usopp and luffy, as well as a respect for luffy as captain and brook as a swordsman. His relationship with Sanji is a no brainer rivalry and silent but deep bond. He seems to be close to robin but on a less exaggerated scale. More like a agreeableness from similar personalities and roles they serve as the crews "old brother/sister".
Usopp is closes to Luffy, Brook, Chopper, and Franky since they all act stupid. A respect for Sanji and Zoro for their fighting ability.
Nami is like a bossy sister. She loves her "siblings" but she also loves to get her way. So her relationship is more of barking orders at people. She's closes though with Robin being the only other female on the crew at present. I can only surmise that her and zoro's disagreeableness is a form of sexual tension. Though Oda has said that there will be no One Piece romances. Than again he also said no one will ever die in One Piece. So…..
Sanji seems to be closes to the ladies out of his own free choice. But he's not really close in a bond but rather in the idea that they have vagina's under their clothes. If we actually talk about real bonds Sanji seems to be really closes with Zoro and Usopp. Zoro is mentioned above. Usopp he seemed to have just a grown a closer bond with just because of the amount of time they both have been on the ship compared to everyone else. IE More face time together. But rather Sanji doesn't seem to exactly mesh with everyone else since he is often catering to the woman. Doesn't mean he doesn't care any less for the rest of the SH's he just has his own silent man honor about it.
Chopper is like the little brother who looks up to everyone. He also mimics people he admires and tries to find himself in the people he loves. Ex. Brook told him to relax durning the camie kidnapping and he sat in a lawn chair with an umbrella, a big gulp, cotten candy, and shades on. He seems closes to Luffy, Ussop, Brook, and Robin. The first three because of being weirdo fun lovers and robin as an intellectual. But over all I'd say chopper meshes well with everyone on the crew. Maybe even more so than Luffy. Maybe.
Robin has a rather darkness about her with a calm disposition. She enjoys everyones antics and silliness though she's doesnt seem to enjoy being in the spot light herself. Making her secretly fun loving. She's closes to Nami, Zoro, and Chopper. As i mentioned in nami's description they have a female bond. Zoro a bond of commonalities. Chopper a bond of intellectuals and a Big sis vibe. Shes kind of close to Luffy but she more or less enjoys watching his antics rather than always partaking, though she's always willing to join in if called out.
Franky seems to be closes to Usopp, Luffy and Chopper. As everyone mentioned he has been with the crew for only a few arcs and hasn't had much face time to interact with people. But he seems to be close to usopp as they have a bond for building/fixing things. Luffy and Chopper always partake in antics. In a lesser degree he seems to have built a bond with Robin from the Thriller Bark arc and a little bit with Brook. Especially since he gets emotional over everyone's stories and brooks is the more recent of the crews that he's heard about.
Brook meshed immediately with Luffy since they have a similarity in noisy antics. Feeding off each others "annoying energies". Brook also seems to have gotten really close with Chopper and a bond of respect with Zoro.
Thats my take on things. If we were to say any one in the present crew doesn't "Fit well" My money would be on Sanji. One could argue that Brook doesn't have all the bonds neither but as everyone said he is the newest and thus less developed SH in the crew. Another argument for my proposal though is rather than worry about who meshes with who keep in mind that sometimes people FOIL other people. Creating a contrast and depth.
Most manga's i've ever read don't have as much richness to the relationships of characters like One Piece does. At times it seems to be pulling slow like a snail but thats cause while its a weekly, the story is written in a way thats meant to be read as a volume/arc. When you ever go back and reread a full arc that was finished it's much better the second time around than when you waited for a release and indulged yourself in spoilers only to wait till the next release.
Brook doesn't seem to fit in well with the rest of the crew
After Zoro i'd probably place Robin.
zoro:blink:
wow that's one i never thought I'd hear

except for the one bolded section I agree with everything you said…. and I still kind of agree with that
but really you did a great job describing all this very well done
got it. Out of curiousity, which Spanish speaking nation do you come from?
I'm from Brazil. We speak portuguese around here, but since it has similarities with spanish, I'm not surprised you mistook it for spanish.
why are people dissing brook and franky we haven't really seen them with the crew enough to see if they fit or not
Honestly, I'd probably say Sanji. Almost everyone in the crew gets disgusted at his womanizing. Nobody else seems to want to think about that stuff.
Luffy, followed by Zoro.
Well my over all point is, When you sit around with your friends you'll have a few you are closes with, a few you hang out with cause you get along with them, and then there are people you may be "around" but they are more your friends friends than your own.
Thats the SH crew. A realistic mesh of personalities. You can argue one is more liked or agreeable than another but they all serve a purpose in their own respects.
Honestly, I'd probably say Sanji. Almost everyone in the crew gets disgusted at his womanizing. Nobody else seems to want to think about that stuff.
While i agree that Sanji probably doesnt have the most apprent meshing bonds in the crew i think Brook takes the womanizing cake. The both got nose bleeds when the victim in thriller bark pointed out Mermaids don't wear panties.

But when Brook does it, half the crew is (it's clearly supposed to be a gag).
When Sanji does it, pretty much everyone is :ermm: (it's a real problem for him).

Probably you are being sarcastic but who besides Zoro gets pissed off at Sanji behaviour? never seen any other member getting even slightly disgusted/wtv at him.
Oars doesn't fit on the Sunny.
Probably you are being sarcastic but who besides Zoro gets pissed off at Sanji behaviour? never seen any other member getting even slightly disgusted/wtv at him.
Nami gets mad at him about it from time to time.

I never said they get pissed at him. Just kinda "ok, awkward." I'm certainly not saying it's anything serious. This thread is about fitting in, and that aspect seems to make him fit in the least to me.
Well i never saw them to that atleast i never noticed, but i see them doing it with Brook because hes kinda of an exageratin of Sanji behaviour about women and his much more perverted then him.
@AdmiralYonkouMt.Bandit:
Nami gets mad at him about it from time to time.
Nami gets mad about everything.
@mingo
i dont like how u bashed sanji you dont think his antics are funny =( i kno i loved the part at thriller bark where he and absolam kept confusing nami for angels and other stuff and thats when i knew he meshed well with the SH's
Nami hands down. There's no other spoilsport in this entire series that even comes close to her.
But when Brook does it, half the crew is

not every just luffy was cracking up. most are offended or weirded out. robin is sort of immune to the weirdness. she laughs or acts like it's just normal behavior and thinks nothing of it.

wow reread what I wrote carefully before you have a fan attack. I was talking about bonds. sanji usually is in his own little world. he doesn't partake in most the antics like the dancing ect. everything he does that's funny is more of a gag than an antic.
All Oda ever has to do is write a "heart touching story" about Franky and his background somehow being tied in to one of the other crew members, or tutoring Usopp on stuff…or something like that. It doesn't take a lot of effort, then suddenly, everyone changes their tune. That's fictional storytelling for you.
The only reason why Franky doesn't seem to fit in is because he's the newest character that hasn't had the most recent bout of mad crying and declaring his love for the Strawhats. And he's not shown in as many panels with one of the other crewmembers doing "fun stuff" because he's usually steering the boat and fixing things up. It's simply a matter of time...the second to last character always seems like they don't fit in quite right because they don't have as much history built up and don't have the most recent spotlight trained on them.
Oh, yeah, and Usopp is a lousy shipwright. He only had the job because no one else knew how to do anything. Like when Nami tried to be a cook. Or Zoro navigating. Or Nami trying to be a doctor. Not enough for the big leagues. Usopp is a sniper first and foremost. That is his natural ability. The ship Usopp had to take care of fell to pieces when they were traveling during the minor leagues parts of the world. I'd think they'd need someone who could step up and keep the ship in tip top shape if they're going to be going up against the big time dudes.
No, the crew works as well as any. All the characters fit because Oda made them fit. Anything else is purely a matter of perspective or a lack of time given to character development.
I'd have to say… Zoro. He hardly ever interacts, apart from with Sanji, Luffy and the occational Robin. I'm not saying he doesn't fit in the crew, I just don't think he fits all that well with the crew.
But to be perfectly honest, I think the balance in the crew is great. Zoro is only a very slight exception in my opinion and everybody has their point of pros and cons.

he interacts with nami a lot to…. well there usually arguing but it counts
and chopper looks up to him as a role model because of his strength, doesn't he save chopper a bunch of times from drowning (along with usopp)
I think Zoro and Chopper has a special bond with each other.
My favorite scene with them is when Zoro claimed he's an atheist, therefore he doesn't pray to a God.
Chopper thought that was the coolest thing ever… so did I…
I'd have to say Brooke. But he hasn't had enough time to become part of the family yet, so we've gotta wait for more of him.
Then Franky to a lesser extent; he's the eldest brother of the family, but he needs to have more showtime.

Mmmm… in the "Straw Hat family", Franky is the father. Robin is the mother. Giving birth to "FrankyxRobin". :getlost:
Usopp, his latent homosexuality separates him from the SH crew norm sometimes.

Isn't as polarizing as Zoro and Chopper's interracial relationship/bestiality thing they got going on.

This. I absolutely agree with everthing you say except for Sanji, but that's just because I can't peg one SH that doesn't fit. Because as you said in a later post, they're like a group of friends. Just looking at my friends, there's the crazy fun ones, the silent onesthe intellectual ones, the culinary ones, the techies, the only things we don't have are a reindeer (I do have some who are in the process of becoming doctors) and a cyborg, but the techies make up for that :p, and last but not least a skeleton, but we do have musicians, including me! People might looks at us and pick out some "who don't belong" but things would not be the same without those people.
That's how I view the SHs. We might think they all don't fit well at times, but the whole separation of the crew has left people missing each and every one of them, and that shows that if one of them wasn't there, things just wouldn't be the same.
They all fit in. If you read the manga you'll see this. There's plenty of interraction between the SHs to prove they all fit in nicely. Of course some fit in less than others; it doesn't mean the SH who fits in the least doesn't fit in at all.
Fuck you Franky haters !! You haven't quite grasped the super~ness that he executes with perfection.
I think the initial five plus Chopper fit pretty well. Robin seemed to be fitting in very well after Water Seven once that mysterious air stuff was cleared and we got a back story. She vocalizes her thoughts more and interacts more with the other. Franky also fits through his bond with Robin, if anything he seems to balance out the crazy part of the crew (Luffy, Usopp, Chopper, Brook, sometimes Sanji) with the more rational part of the crew (Nami, Zoro, sometimes Sanji, and Robin). Brook is a bit of the odd man out but that's mainly because he's the newest and his adjustment arc (i.e. the arc after a character joins) was the one where everybody got separated.
Still, right now Brook is the weak link in my book.
O-chan

or an inadequicy of the story teller. but if Oda magically made everyone fit like a puzzle without conflicts and tension it wouldn't be believable in the slightest. what makes people immerse themselves in fiction rather than simply enjoy it is the subtlties that "most people" don't look for that are strikingly similar to reality. without an equal amount of reality fiction is lost in the reader.
most would agree oda is a great story teller.
how ever this thread isn't meant to discuss the god semantics of author and story but of peoples individual take of the crews relationship with the provided material. so chill out mr serious and grab a cola and be suppppaaaaa

Nobody hates Franky, it just SEEMS like he hardly communicates with the group.
Nobody hates Franky, it just SEEMS like he hardly communicates with the group.
We already had a fan rage earlier. I just don't think they process information until their fanboy/girl kicks to cloud their judgements.
I don't really see franky not fitting in with the strawhats. I think Oda has done an outstanding job with the crew, I think they all have good chemistry with each other.
Nobody hates Franky, it just SEEMS like he hardly communicates with the group.
i disagree he obviously had off screen connections with the crew hince tactics 15 chopper and ussop knew what he was talking about
it was also show that usopp and franky have been workin together about building weapons and things already
true there is stuff going on besides what we see. I like to believe the mini adventures we don't get to see outside of the arcs are represented in the color pages and "generic covers" that go where mini arcs normally go.
I would rather enjoy the amine if they did more stuff with the color pages. like cranky and luffy boxing in the ring without any special powers/techniques. just guts!
We already had a fan rage earlier. I just don't think they process information until their fanboy/girl kicks to cloud their judgements.
Didn't actually think you guys would take that seriously… since it wasn't actually a fan rage; more of an intended exaggeration.
But whatever gives you the opportunity to bitch...
i don't really think that there is a strawhat who doesn't fit in with the rest. they're a bunch of crazy people and everyone's got their quirks. more importantly, all care for each other and their dreams.
however, i do agree that franky may seem to not fit in as well as the others. but in my opinion that's only coz brook joined shortly after him. it always takes some time to get used to a new strawhat and more importantly .. to believe and feel that they are part of the family. so franky didn't have lots of time as brook stole the stage to early. poor franky ..
Nobody hates Franky, it just SEEMS like he hardly communicates with the group.
To be fair, that's Oda's fault. The MORE StrawHats you have, the less
time you have for them to mingle about and chat with each other.
