i shouldn't had read this chapter, i wanted to see a chapter like this animated :(
Chapter 574 "The Death of Portgas D. Ace" Discussion
-
-
I agree that using the interview for an argument is a bad base for that thesis but I wouldn't necessarily deny the possibility that Ace could be brought back at all since the revival concept pretty much isn't an unthinkable thing in manga. That's at least where my worries are coming from.
This. This is what I agree with.
Man, ya'll just know Oda is sittin' back and laughing at all of this – not at the chapter, but at folks like US who just argue this huge stuff back and forth to no end. No matter who says what right now someone's gonna get shut up by whatever he puts out NEXT week. He is the only person I know who has the ability to suck and be godly awesome at the same time.
Now I wonder what would happen if his chapters were as long as FMA?? I think some folk's brains would explode, including my own..

@Yonkou#3:
Really? That thing that blows shit up and breaks things is intangible?

I dont really want to steal you thunder( :D) buuuuuuuuuuuut like i said she was damaged not pierced and with that cow you just owned yourself, dont worry it happens, like you can see the cow is burned/hurt not dead or pierced.
Still anime logic doenst apply to the real world but you just owned yourself doing that.

My worries don't come from next week but from any possible time when this revival might come. It could also happen much later. I just really hope we don't get there.

Great, Ace is dead!
Moria > Luffy
-
I'm afraid Luffy will eat Akainu alive next chapter. You can bet on it. The guy isn't leaving until Akainu is dead. At least I hope so. Luffy needs something to push him over his limits of power.

Imagine having to wait a month for the next chapter after a chapter like the last two.

Even a super haki Luffy should do shit against Akainu… more than a landing punch in his face and than fading away
-
I can't believe the stuff those villagers were sayin about what they'd do to Roger's child if he existed. Its disgusting…
Also...this chapter has proven beyond any doubt once & for all Akainu is a Logia...as if that wasn't obvious already.
-
Awww shit I want a proper scanlation of this chapter soon… A Raw, anything, just... Ugh. Yeah. I hope... And as for the next week's chapter, I really can't even speculate, I have no idea what's gonna happen. AND I've never been up to this point disappointed with One Piece, so keep it up Oda, and DO NOT revive Ace, as much as I like his character : /

Didn't Marco and Vista attack Akainu with Ambition-imbued attacks and it did nothing anyway?
-
Great, Ace is dead!
-
Luffy interview after he has become PK:
Luffy: I would like to thank my entire crew! All my friends across Grandline! And Ace! I know you're sleep-eating up there!
Not the time for jokes yet
-
Ace isn't dead guys.
-
Wow I can't believe Ace died! I thought for sure he would make it out of MHQ after he was freed. I think were gonna see a DBZ type moment here (Goku turning into a Super Sayin when Freeza killed Krillin). I bet you anything that Luffy attacks Akainu out of rage.
-
Ace isn't dead guys.
He better be, if oda revives him or bring him back to life I will be so pissed.
-
Ace is dead?!?

If the magma rising up has anything to do with it, Vista might have got Akainu in the jugular.

About time Ace died…
Story plot + 1.
-
Imagine having to wait a month for the next chapter after a chapter like the last two.
remembers the last 2 chapters of FMA compared to the last 2 chapters of OP
Haah… .__.
Yeeah. Forget what I said. I'll take 18 pages per(almost)week compared to a month of nothing followed by KABOOM! sigh
Is it time for filler yet? Ace being dead/not dead is hurting my logic skills.

HAAAAAAAAAA….
Go read FMA.

Well given the fact that the face of Luffy in the last panel clearly shows he lost consciousness, I doubt he is going to snap out of it due to the mass amount of fatigue and damage his body has taken throughout Impel Down and this war. Looks like Oda might save Akainu vs Luffy for another day.
I predict Luffy will be unconscious through the rest of this arc, if there is one anyhow. After coming to, I expect him to beat himself up over not being able to protect Ace, his brother, his nakama. That rage and self guilt (which we have seen Luffy do before i.e. Enies Lobby over Robin which sparked the Gears in a way) would once again be channeled into learning Haki by someone, as he is going to want to kill Akainu for this.
Some are hoping that next chapter would be a time skip!
-
Blackbeard is going to walk in now and singlehandedly wipe out the entire WB crew.

The best way to do right now is to ignore the jokes. That's what I do.
-

OP would be in Berserk mode if BB really did wipe out the entire crew lol.
I don't think Oda has decided to kill all of them yet but I could see him not wanting to deal with making up a place for all of them to end up.

HE'S FUCKING DEAD
So was Pell at one point. Well on the other hand Ace ranks slightly higher on the more popular side characters.

Nah, if Oda pulls a Pell now, his wife will probably never sleep with him again. Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do y'know.

No, there's a huge difference.
Pell didn't die and come back to life. He simply didn't die.
We assumed he died, but did not see his last moments.
He wasn't resurrected.Ace died. Bringing him back to life is completely different from Pell.

Or his wife is the one pulling the strings for no deaths

Too many defining scenes and statements were said for me to even remotely believe that Ace will be back. Oda sticks to his words. Too read their conversation, and see Luffys face at the end? No way that was used just to cop out later with some crappy explination on why he survived.
It's very interesting though. I really truely honestly did not see this coming. I thought it was cool how Ace got hit with the magma punch, but I didn't take it very seriously. I always figured, how could Luffy go through all of that only to ultimately fail at the end? It's a rescue arc in a super powered comic for goodness sakes, of course he was going to rescue the victim. The rug sure got pulled from under me.
Now some of us have wondered, how will the story move along with Ace being dead? Why did it happen is the bigger question? Thats like 3 major failures in a row huh? Well 2 and one lost fight to Magellan. To read the story as a whole and then read this is just nuts. Luffy and co always always always come through. And then BAM! Kuma! BAM! Magellan! BAM! Death of Ace!
Can't wait til Luffy gets back with the crew, I just want to see him happy again. That face at the end of this chapter was almost horrifying.
-
I really think that this thread will reach easily 10000 post if the debate reg. Ace's death will continue this way…
-
I dunno, I think it would be too soon for a timeskip after all that. I don't think Oda would just let Marineford drop off like that, it's too soon.
That's actually FMA's author doing a self-portrait after he found out Ace died.
Actually, he is a She. But yeah, her brain exploded when she found out, and took it out on all of Fullmetal-Land. ^^ Poor exploding cow.

The people who keep on saying that this is, in effect, 'Luffy's painful flashback' are completely correct. That made me approach this chapter from a new angle.
Also, kudos to the people who thought that this war would end in a net positive for the WG. While there's still time for Marine HQ/Shichibukai to suffer some losses, it's looking more like the Marines will emerge as an even larger presence in this world as opposed to complete chaos/anarchy from both institutions crumbling.
I would love to have Akainu survive this war and have a Banaro Island-type duel somewhere down the line.
They're not gonna come out stronger. Marine HQ will be completely destroyed by WB…Marines are gonna suffer huge losses. Was it really worth it for them in the end? All those lives lost...destruction of Marine HQ, just to end Roger's bloodline?

What about the auction dude and basically the entire Tenryubito fiasco?

The message they tried to send was sent. The whole world was watching, I think they would deem the sacrifices WELL worth it…ignorantly of course!:ninja:

Breaking News!
After the release of Chapter 574, various manga authors decided to go on hiatus. When asked why, many were quoted saying "why Oda… why???"
-
@LUFFY#1:
Not the time for jokes yet
I assume you haven't seen the Spoiler thread, then?
Ace is probably whining at his father
updown there. -
What about the auction dude and basically the entire Tenryubito fiasco?
Aohige specifically mentioned Final Moments. None of these characters have really had that except Roger…and now Ace and likely WB (Jimbei?) soon.

That's completely true. What I was trying to say is that we're looking at this completely in one dimension. Ace dies, tragic ending, Luffy goes berserk then into slump. To obvious for my liking, however, there's hundreds of possibilities. I've been reading One Piece for a while, and the plot usually isn't obvious so I'll keep my hopes up. My prediction is that he'll live.

You said better than i could , over half the people that suppose to be dead Oda never said they die or even showed there body. It was fans that think they suppose to be dead.
While you can say it's bullshit or cop out that the way it is . Oda never brought any body back to life cause he never kill them in first place .

I think the world will disagree. Marine HQ is gone, they suffered massive losses. Only bright point is WB is no more…Ace is dead. Thats it. I expect Dragon will be making his move pretty soon.....and BB will be shaking up the New World with his crew of monsters
-
Sick Fool, you got your profile title wrong. Missed an "ed".
Nah, not the time for jokes right now, seeing as this chapter made and is still making a great impact on me. Hell, I even changed my avatar to an Ace pic just to show I'm grieving.
I think I found the most fitting song for this chapter ever.

i think its very possible that Luffy could go berserk next chapter in "unconscious" mode, it's not like it's unprecedented, i mean he was doing essentially the same thing when fighting the black cat pirates and under the hypnosis of jango, he had the pupil-less eyes and everything there too
-
Actually Aohige most of people are talking about the other interview where he also says there wont be "flying characters" and that he doesnt like to kill his characters because killing them is easy, taking away their dreams is not
Again, vague references ticks me off to no end.
Site it, quote it, or make it apparent where it's from.He mentioned in a very early SBS (volume 4, page90) when asked why Luffy doesn't kill his enemies, that he believes Luffy killing his enemies is not a high priority, but rather, breaking their hearts and desire, and losing their dreams equals to death.
The SBS was about protagonist killing or not killing his opponents, and is irrelavant to people's claim of "LOL ODA DOESN'T KILL HIS CHARACTERS".
The interview I translated is far more relative to the topic. -
I wonder if Oda will start doing heaven cover stories?
