We could always have Luffy eating a second devil fruit, surviving the explosion with his rubber body, subduing the devils with his King haki, and using them to get to the gates of Hell to bring Ace back from the dead.

Yes a fairytale…
Why does everyone remember Jabura's bullcrap, but forgets Blueno real explanation?
I agree so much… This whole war was way too childish. We should have seen Luffy getting owned and not coming back from death for 100th time. Seriously, wtf was WhiteBeard doing? Buggy and Mr. 3 were way more helpful than him and Marco, he tossed some stupid marines in 2-3 screens and thats all. WTF, Oda?
True… but what have Sengoku and garp done? Or the Shichibukai's that big?
And where the heck is Dragon? Exactly what kind of a "revolutionary" is he? Thats just the perfect chance for him and his army, yet he hides himself, what a worm!
Dragon could do more shit at other places to take over… All marines are gathered there and other locations are more than likely without guard
Marco should have fought Akainu and Jozu should have fought Kizaru. They were perfectly matched opponents. Instead they got owned so funnily easy, I laughed my ass off. And Oda seems to have some problems with designing characters, I hope he gets over with it soon.
Well i disgaree. Marco did very well against KiZaru 2 times… but than he got distracted and it even becomes a 2 vs 1. Same for Jozu... he became distracted as well cuz of WB. And you can't let your guard down. Let them fight 1 vs 1 on a place without distraction and I bet at least Marco would be more than enough for KiZaru. But Oda didn't want to let the admirals being beat cuz they habe much more story in the future than Marco or Jozu. I doubt Marco or jozu will someday fight the SHs
Damn, I'm pissed as hell, what a disappointment! Still, One Piece is by far the best manga of its time, so whoever is going to nickname me a naruto or bleach fanboy, can… yeah, you know what.
16 characters of that^^
And once again… Why did Thatsh wasn't revived by Marco it he really could revive someone?
Just because you don't like what he says it doesn't mean his opinion is automatically bullshit. Ok, he exaggerates a bit with the kidnapping part but overall I can feel where the guy is coming from. To me this arc had a foul taste several times already but this very chapter is by far the worst thing I've ever seen coming out from Oda's pen. It doesn't have anything to do with mindless hating I just really have the impression that Oda is losing his Mojo lately.
wow pretty cool
Finaly there's someone who feels like i feel
One piece is loved and has a lot of fans for mutch things and in thos arc we missed it sometimes, and the end was so cruel
DANKECHUN
@Sir:
Why does everyone remember Jabura's bullcrap, but forgets Blueno real explanation?
Wishful thinking on their part.
He's too dead to be revived without some sort of magical/BS reasoning. He is way too injured to be healed by any doctor and I doubt Marco can heal him either. Only way he comes back is if he for some reason never really died or some extremely bullshit angel comes down and tickles his balls and he suddenly gets revived.
2 weeks ago I would never have believed that Ace would die.
For example, Ace could be simply unconscious now, from the blood loss/internal damage. He could perhaps survive after some really difficult operation from iva/some other good doc, but stay incapacitated (unable to use his fruit? or just weakened for life?) and have to retire from being a pirate. Doesn't it sound a bit plausible? Albeit cheesy. Leaving him with permanent damage would be a compromise between saving the whole point of this arc and not making Ace's survival too cheap.
I'm not saying it's going to happen. I'm just saying it might happen. I'm considering it as a small but real possibility.
well i think you guys are forgetting. ace is a logia after all. If Iva could bring him back even for a few mins with enough hormons injected in to him to get his heart and brain going.. his DF powers could kick in and repair everything i still see no reason why the magma would cause so much damage to aces body…. unless he had haki or something like that...

He has a hole the size of a basketball in his chest…his spine is gone as well as some of his internal organs...there is absolutely no way he could live...

How would hormones repair his big gaping hole of a chest.
People in the real world survive bullets to the head. If Oda's characters can turn themselves into fire, light, or cut boats in two with their swords, then perhaps they can also heal from otherwise-obviously-fatal injuries after some surgery. But meh, you know, I'm posting that because:
;)
No they can't.
Otherwise Croc would still have his hand.

I too have terrible meaningless nitpickings neutering my chances at enjoying an excellent story arc.

But also think of the brain damage he has no lungs to produce oxygen as well and technically dead until they escape. This is treading dangerously close zombie science now.
Edit:Wait a minute, comparing a bullet to the head to magma through the chest? OMGWTFBBQ?!
hey darkstorm, how's it going?
Feelin' fine. .
He's dead. D-E-D, DEAD!
cool. Too bad Ace had to die and stuff. I kinda liked his character most when he was having his death speech
They should sell t-shirts.
"I met Sakazuki and all I got was this big gaping hole where my chest used to be"
cool. Too bad Ace had to die and stuff. I kinda liked his character most when he was having his death speech
Indeed. But the only only real time I liked him before that was the arabasta dining scene.
The good thing about this is it raises infinite possibilities now, Oda just killed a 5th ranked popularity poll character bringing back a sense of tension into one piece(as opposed to when Zoro was going to be "killed" by Kuma), and the marines have kept to their word and in the process made the marines look stronger then ever, making future revolutionary/void century arcs much more appealing to me.
you gotta give him credit though.. for not immediately dying or going into massive shock.
magma man..
People who think Ace will be resurrected in one form or another need to get over themselves.
The obvious trolling is kinda offputting, but it's final now he's dead forever and ever.
The fucking chapter is called; the Death of Portgas D. Ace. How more obvious can it get?
They should sell t-shirts.
"I met Sakazuki and all I got was this big gaping hole where my chest used to be"
ROFL!
Ace is faking it and letting Akainu think that magma trumps fire. He's praying that Akainu doesn't read this thread.
And would be the reason for Oda to let him stay alive after making an epic death like this which can effect the future storyline…
If he would live on the last 2 chapter would have been a waste and all the emotions and everything were for nothing

That's it man
each time oda is criticed some people advise u to try other mangas
It mustn't be this way
we are here for one piece and we say this because it's different to what we had always in the other arcs, fun and good and equal battles, suspense, …
Just try to review the all battles from magellan to sakazuki and u will see how badly the most powerful pirates an revolutionists in op lost, and ask your self if it's so easy to swallow

The Gol D Ace is born theory is living in some minds… cough
Ace is faking it and letting Akainu think that magma trumps fire. He's praying that Akainu doesn't read this thread.
"I was just pretending Luffy. Sorry for sending you into shock"
It was a plot convenience. That's why Ace got killed by Akainu's magma. There is no science to it…
Ace protected Luffy, so he could not become fire to evade the punch. He just had to remain solid. Thats all there is to me.
And even so, if Oda decides lava > fire, then so be it. The point is not about which power overrules which power but about the fact that Ace protected Luffy and gave his life for it. The powers are in fact just accessories to the story.
Most people wouldn't have expected that after a year of "Lets save Ace". It's quite a twist in the story (an emo twist actually). And I really do like it. Oda isnt just killing of chars for fun, but when he does it's a real climax. I for one dont expect anything to happen. I just let Oda entertain me. It's his story after all, and he is a damn good story teller!
(If ever, by some coincidence Ace was to survive, which i really doubt, then this would be epic fail though)
Where the hell is Dragon anyway?? Yeah, i ask that question too. But if i were a revolutionist, and the status quo is having an all out major war. I wouldn't jump in and join the fray, i would instead attack their other base, because obviously all of their forces are focused to Marineford. So maybe when it is time to show the war aftermath we'll see lots of island being "freed" by Dragon
It doesn't have anything to do with mindless hating I just really have the impression that Oda is losing his Mojo lately.
Man, its interesting how people perceive something so differently to someone else. To me, Oda's on top of his game more than ever! I mean, the death of this character is a huge development for himself as a storyteller, and the series as a whole. Just when you thought it was going to be a happy ending, he kicks things up a notch, proving this to be not another Enies Lobby.
People can nit-pick all they want, but I see this "war", as more of a large-scale skirmish.. Someone said it best a few weeks ago, that this arc is merely the "half-time show"; a sort've preview of things to come. Little hints at devil-fruits, quick pair-ups, the chaotic jumps from battle to battle (keeping true to the fast-paced aspect of war), and the death of the old era. Then theres the more personal aspect of the Garp/Luffy/Ace relationship.
This arc is important for so many reasons; Luffy will learn that you can't save everybody, Ace accepted his place in the world, and Whitebeard makes a final stand. Its my second most favourite arc, and its not even over yet. Next week can't come soon enough!
Oda is really laughing at us for sure…
I bet he did it on purpose confusing the people with the last panel and chapter title
Chapter title "Death of Portgas D Ace"
Chapter ending "I never will die"
"his name...is Gol D Ace"
Now a lot of people are confused and for good reasons and I bet Oda wanted it this way to hype the people for next chapter... even if I say he will stay dead
and ask your self if it's so easy to swallow
Ace probably can't swallow much right now.
you gotta give him credit though.. for not immediately dying or going into massive shock.
Ace death puns aside, it was a good way to go out, a nice speech that actually makes you like Ace. Classy stuff.
Too bad. I really liked this manga.
Did you forget my prediction so easily? Croc will take over & try to reach Raftel before his great rival, the Clown Prince of Piracy, Buggy.

It may be half time to the manga but it definitely shouldn't be half time in the world of One Piece…this is basically the biggest battle between marines and pirates that the One Piece world has seen as far as we know. This is also the largest scale event that we've seen in One Piece aside from Roger's execution.
I just don't see how people are confused about the Gol D Ace line. It flashed back to his birth to add finality to the moment. To bring things full circle
last time i saw the revolutionist, they are freeing slaves and taking over that certain island Robin landed on….......... yes i forgot the name of it ><
edit: tequila wolf? fingers crossed
Tequila Wolf. .
where they get drunk in the cold and beat their ugly children
[hide] in the cold [/hide]
At the end of the day Ace was also used by Oda to show us more of the OP world .
With out him we would have never seen ID or Marine HQ. In way Ace was use by Oda to fix allot of things people had a problems with.
Ace death puns aside, it was a good way to go out, a nice speech that actually makes you like Ace. Classy stuff.
Nothing raises a person's popularity quite like dying.

Shame on me. Where does Yamakaji fit in to all of this, again?
They should sell t-shirts.
"I met Sakazuki and all I got was this big gaping hole where my chest used to be"
Heck yeah.
It's like Jason Todd all over again.
Until people found out he wasn't Dick Grayson.
Okamas never die!
Feuding with Woop Slap.
Well, at least he'll be tangling with an emperor.

That's true, but the key phrase in there is definitely "as far as we know". And I'm sure it won't be the last large-scale event we'll see. I'd be perfectly happy if the revolutionaries and Blackbeard and every man and his dog didn't end up making an appearance at Marineford, because then it'd be too over-the-top, with too many characters to focus on. I mean, it's bad enough already (when was the last time we saw one panel of Kuma and Moria?)
Nothing raises a person's popularity quite like dying.
Definitely. But i'll admit… hearing his will to live chapters ago. and now his touching death speech. It made a part of me want to see him live.
well not live from "this"
but live by completely avoiding the whole magma fist through his back, spine, lungs, guts, etc...
But the deed is done. I'd hate to see an asspull outta this. if firefist lives, he may as well just take a warm piss into his brothers toilet sized, pain stricken mouth
But what's amusing… Why Garp even told Ace that he is Roger's son?
And strange that Ace heated Roger and Luffy, who was with Ace all the time, was fanboying over Roger.
Well, at least he'll be tangling with an emperor.
An emperor who killed Kaidou by hooking his neck with his cane. A worthy foe.
Definitely. But i'll admit… hearing his will to live chapters ago. and now his touching death speech. It made a part of me want to see him live.
Would you have wanted him to live before this chapter though?

It's the work of the dreaded Genjutsu fruit.
But the deed is done. I'd hate to see an asspull outta this. if firefist lives, he may as well just take a warm piss into his brothers toilet sized, pain stricken mouth
Ace Kelly strikes again.
An emperor who killed Kaidou by hooking his neck with his cane. A worthy foe.
People will start listening to the mayor, dammit!
I'm crossing my fingers for Nami vs Makino.
I wonder if the people in Japan complain this much or just accept it and are thankful for a story that is not stagnating.
Also people seem to say this war is pointless not factoring in that while we are watching Luffy and his adventures there were OTHER pirate rookies out there travelling the same grand line as they were but in a different direction.
Oda should and if he is doing this for 10 years you would suspect he does have a whole timeline of events occurring beyond what we see in the manga we see snippets now and then and even sometimes the odd cut away from Luffy and crew to see some plot element - aka Shanks telling WB not to chase BB
I firmly believed that Ace would die here - I even predicted it in a previous thread not being facetious but I knew that Luffy needed a wake up call beyond anything else he has faced. He is a good captain but he sacrifices too much of himself too often the times he has come close to death only to be saved after the last min is too common.
And on Magma being more powerful then fire - you either build a bridge and accept it or chew on it like gristle mumbling like some old codger with a grudge.
