Now I know no one likes this con but I know people are gonna show up >> Since my other gatherings are already being plotted I thought I would go ahead and start getting the ball rolling on the One Piece gathering ~~ There's also a thread on coscom, but no one's posted in it.
I was thinking of maybe a Saturday afternoon and possibly a Sunday morning gathering. If anyone else is going feel free to chime in with your suggestions~

For starters its poorly organized, staff usually sucks, not to mention it's outgrown it's venue it's stuck at for the next 3 years. That's only a small portion of the gripes people have about it.
Unfortunately its the only con a lot of people will go to, still can't convince a lot of people to go to AFest which is better >_>
I always like akon. Don't think I'll be doing a OP cosplay. The only ones I had in mind are Japan, and The Bride from Kill Bill. I just enjoy hanging with everyone, and CU is coming back down to visit. XD

Hopefully i won't feel so sick this year! Last year between the change in diet and the elevators in the south towers..i was so sick.

But yeah, Akon is a fun con for the casual fan thats going to just walk around… its a terrible con for anyone doing anything remotely professional there. Worst organized ongoing convention around.

As much as I'd love to bring my OP stuff, if a gathering of some sorts doesn't happen I probably won't, and if I don't have the money for a room then no. Co-hosting 3 Hetalia gatherings and being photographer for a few other is gonna have me busy constantly, but I'm up for OP shenanigans if others are.
Definitely doing mostly OP cosplays for AFest though, so there's always then too.
I hope I don't get sick either, I have some major blood sugar drops during Yulecon, which always conviently happened during chess and the dating game == (though a certain something else could have contributed to my dating game slump XD) Atleast at A-Kon there is food within walking distance, but I'll be very lucky to eat as regularly as I need to as much as there are all those gatherings I've got to be at @@ Though A-Kon regularly seems to be the con I'm able to eat enough at so I'm hopeful XD

Nope (which is probably not a bad thing at A-Kon ^^;;;) AFest has the dating games (and Yulecon). They are trying to have cosplay chess this year though… but as most things (unless the guys who I know that usually run it don't get ahold of it) it'll probably flop if they get people who don't know what they're doing to run it.

it is what you make it. ^^ and who cares if you've never cosplayed before. luffy is easy enough to pull off. you can do a decent job.

With a family situation and money tightness I'm not sure if I can do more then just show up Friday and Saturday. If I can I will atleast stay Friday night and if I do that I can bring some of the bigger costumes to wear, if I don't stay then I'm just gonna wear ones I can get around in because I'll take the train to avoid the parking fiasco =_=
Ehhhhhh I'd say if you really want to come to one of the Dallas cons, go to AFest. That's just my opinion though, personally its a more cosplay friendly con since it's not as crowded (though they're more strict on cosplay so if you wanted to be trampy, it's better to go to A-Kon).
Most people love A-Kon the first time they go, it's busy and full of people. AFest is much smaller and more chill, though i've always had way more fun at the events there (dating game ftw <3333). The other thing with A-Kon vs AFest is AFest is alot cheaper.
A-Kon was my first con, and I really enjoyed it that first and second time (and the 3rd time, but last year not so much) I went. You probably will too.

Mmm well I guess it just depends on what you do there I suppose. Last year I had a blast. Sold some commissions, played some games, brought some stuff, went to panels etc. Even saw some OP cosplay there. Oh yeah and I saw you there Robby along with the rest of the AP crew. Got to talk with Ben again and met Fred and Matt for the first time too. Nice guys.
This year am gonna try to get a table since I feel a bit more confident in my art. If I can't, I'll do what I did last year: wear a binder on my hat, walk the floor, and draw for anyone interested. Maybe might become a staff member too.

… No, actually. They don't really do anything worth going to, its always screwed up. They are attempting to have cosplay chess this year though, if my friends can run it like they did at Yulecon then that will probably be a good event.
AFest has chess, the dating games (so much win), the semi-formal dance (which is actually a proper dance, not a rave), then there is iron cosplay, anime jeopardy (which i've never tried, IDK if they host that at A-Kon), and a few other things. It also has a lot more fun panels. I've attended a couple of decent panels at A-Kon but they were done away with. Other panels I've attempted to go to in the past 2 years, the people running it never showed up.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show, as well as Hentai and Yaoi Fest (though Yaoi fest always falls on Rocky sobs) are probably the only things worth mentioning at A-Kon, but they all start at midnight, so probably not something you can do on a day trip. Los Bastardos does an excellent Rocky show.
For most of us it's really just a con to hang out with one another, it's also the only place some of us see each other because they won't come to AFest =B
what's iron cosplay. that one's new to me
I remember Iron Cosplay from a different convention xD you are given scraps of material and other things like duct tape and such and you have to make a recognizable Cosplay costume? it was kinda like that at Coscon when my sis did it xD it was a really tiny con so I don't know what it's like at other cons o.o?
Yeah you usually get like scraps of fabric (or any kind of random material you could make clothes out of XD), duct tape, safety pins, staples (one guy made a sewing needle out of a staple, and it worked well XD), etc. etc. Groups are selected and then you have one hour (usually) to make a costume out of the materials given. There's usually a theme you have to follow. The results are usually extremely fucked up XD
… Darn I can't find the picture of Trooper's "Sailor Nightmare" from All-Con... Basically they made a sailor suit for a really tall, long haired, bearded guy

To all the newcomers asking about Akon, just make up your mind if you want to come or not. There are mixed opinions on akon sucking. Many people say Afest was more fun, but I was bored out of my mind sitting in a closed artist ally watching friends play poker cause there wasn't anything to do. I have always had fun at akon, even the first time when I went by myself cause I didn't know anybody. It is up to you. Akon is extremely crowded and the staff is rude (so was that dumb guy at afest who yelled at me to get out of the elevator as I was getting out of the elevator). I am extremely claustrophobic in crowds, so I have to take the cons in turns. That is fine with me, because I am mainly there to hang out with my friends I don't see that often. The dealers room is amazing though. It is so big, and tons of stuff. Getting food at Akon is much simpler too, as there are plenty of things in walking distance (they don't allow prop weapons of any kind in there). Overall I like akon way better than afest. It just isn't because afest is smaller, Yulecon was smaller than afest and I had a blast. It is just I'm a grown up and want to be able to enjoy grown up things. When I have kids and a family, then I will go to a family friend con.
Just had to get that off my chest. I don't want people from out of state driving or flying to texas and not get their monies worth. If you like small cons, family friendly stuff, but all means go to afest, but in my opinion if you want your monies worth, go to akon.

I didn't see ANY of the GnD people at ALL at A-kon last year… I still think they weren't really there... xDDDD like legend... xDD
Mmmm I'm debating whether or not I should go, but not because of others opinions of it. xD I need to get an estimated cost of the trip, a room, a possible cosplay, and still have leftover to spend in the vendors area.
This may require me to offer commissions and actually get a driver's license. I'm 85% sure I would have a car to drive by then (provided that no expensive repairs would be needed).
If I actually KNEW anyone (antisocial half-shy shut in, here) I would see if I could share a room. ><;;

I'd rather fork out 500 bucks than stay in a room full of strangers o____o Yes, forking out that much money SUCKS…but I'm going to have a LOT of expensive and awesome costumes and also possibly my laptop and things I don't want anyone to fuck with, so I'm for sure not going to be trying to room with a bunch of people I don't know to save money x_x;;

I will be attending A-kon this year again but will most likely NOT be cosplaying One Piece. I have way too much on my plate for this con and i want to actually be able to be in some of the events that are at the cons. (I usually end up cosplaying the whole damn time cosplay i dont want to do.) But none the less I will be cosplaying with my group and taking part in the Yu-gi-oh tornament and the gaming tornaments. But yeah I am so set to cosplay this year it will be epic…my cosplay list is.....

I-I'm probably going, working on planning everything out with my friends for now. If I do go I'll probably cosplay Iceland (APH) and maybe Bonney (OP) if I'm in shape by then XD. I also have a Hinamori (Bleach) cosplay, but I really favor Bonney over her, I'll see what I'm gonna take a night before the trip XD.
I've never gonne to a USA con, so it'll be a fun, new experience for me :D. I'm also glad I'll get to meet some of you if I go! :happy:

Yeah, if you tell them that you have more than 2 people in your room, you get charged for EVERY person extra staying there =_=; You have to be like a ninja with Akon hotels. Even just me and my sis is gonna be QUITE the expensive vacation xD
Yeaaaah you're not really supposed to do that… but we do. Last year I knew some people who were supposed to get a suite (I think they got it the second day (wtf?)) but didn't so they had 20 people in a normal room ._____. (which 10+ people crammed into these rooms isn't odd either)
Like at Yulecon we had 6 people and ended up with 1 bed ._____. Do not want a repeat of that ever.

But seriously, I had such a blast last year that I'd have to be either broke or stupid to not go again. This time I'll be prepared for that 20 minute wait to get onto the elevators, and you can be sure that a certain Christopher Sabat-look alike had better prepare to Poke-throwdown again. Even if I never find my Platinum version, my army will rise again.
Debating if I should even bring my Stronger outfit. Wasn't that much of a reaction at Oni, and I believe everyone who I wanted to see it saw it.

Naw they won't check your room, unless of course you give them good reason to (like really loud partying, or being too loud in general). One year we were having a little party in a friends room, we weren't what I would consider SUPER loud (especially not for a con) we weren't yelling and screaming or anything sometimes we'd laugh or something). What I think was the problem was the people coming and going (not nessicarily from our room either) that were being loud in the hall and someone was trying to sleep a couple of doors down (a real bitch, and this was like 9 PM!!!), thus she reported my friends room and everyone not in the room had to leave. That's the only time I've ever had a problem with it, but as long as you aren't causing a disturbance they're not gonna check your room and inforce the 4 people thing.

I loved seeing everyone Texas again. I am for sure going to this since I won't be able to go to Anime Matsuri. I'll be cosplaying for sure this year
