I personally think that in order to repay his debt Squad will either free Marco from his handcuffs or take on Sengoku when Luffy gets up to the platform.
I think this is the case because Squad has a huge debt to repay and the best way to repay it is either directly aide in freeing ace by taking on Sengoku. The second best way is to free Marco since he can take on admiral's easily, and can contribute to the ongoing effort more than most others

Anyway, I actually think it'd be better if he doesn't redeem himself in this war but actually comes back later on, possibly after being in a cover story filling in the gaps between the war and his later hypothetical appearance, maybe as an envoy from WB to Luffy or, if by some turn of events the WB pirates disband, he forms his own crew that helps Luffy later. I feel that if he has some significant "SORRY DAD, I'LL MAKE IT UP TO YOU!" moment that changes the course of the war, it'll be pretty cheesy and like the most predictable sort of Hollywood.

I agree also. When I saw Pell and those flashbacks with him and Vivi, it was a sad and emotional moment. Then he lifted the bomb up and saved the day.
I think that by making him live took a lot of the emotion away from that part.
I think during this war Oda should prove that he can kill a somewhat major character(Ace or WB maybe). I doubt any somewhat important character will die though, but it is a war…. so wtf?
I think Squad will do something self-sacrificial in the end, much like Bon-chan did in ID. If not, he'll probably be loyal to the WB Pirates, in whatever form that will take, for the rest of the series.
