Oda didn't start the cola thing. When I first saw him introducing Cola as Franky and Thousand Sunny source of energy, I was so sure he was paying a homage to his idol, Akira Toriyama.
Dr. Slump Volume 2 have Dr. Senbe using cola as fuel.
