This looks like on of his earlier works based on the art(?)
A manga series about a young man sent to prison and his experiences before and during his stay in the prison. Contains Fukumoto's traditional psychological stuff AND male nudity!
I'm currently finishing off Vol. 4 (which has a freaky start…), then taking a long break for more chapters to be released.
Buraiden Gai (from the creator of Akagi and Kaiji

Gai is a classic, but I haven't read it yet, surprisingly. It's one of the few Fukumoto works (the other Kurosawa) I haven't touched.
I'm not sure if you've heard Freeman but Ten was just recently scanslated entire.

Let's see what GotLurk turns up…
Well you can catch up quick; under 30 chapters got scanlated though you could just read up til Vol. 4 and well be at the same point as I am. -
I'm partial to waiting until the series is done, because I don't want to wait on a monthly basis anymore. IIIRC Zawazawa was scanslating this series, back in the AHK (RIP) days, but they sort of dropped off and nothing new came for a long, long time.
-
Actually Ten is fully scanlated now it seems.
…and there are TWO Fukumotos? Damn didn't know until I read about it... -
I was referring to BG actually.
-
Ah, sorry. What other work by the Fukumotos has been scanlated?
-
Almost everything has a scan, but not many things are complete. Also, what do you mean by two Fukumotos? Nobody knows what you're talking about. :O
…
Also, it's surreal to see Akagi in such a state in his mahjong game against Ten. It's really strange!

just read this series
it is pretty great
lots of twists and turns, and i lol'd everytime they showed gai and osawa in the sofa

I never heard of the creator or other series, but this after skimming through some pages, I noticed I immediatly stopped and started reading. The writing and manga pacing here is great. I'm not done with the pilot yet but I'm hooked. Hopefully I don't lose interest.

It is only 38 chapters long. I had nothing to do yesterday so I sat down for an hour and a half and just read the whole thing.
Gai is a fucking badass motherfucker. Trust me.
And you've never heard of Fukumoto? Seriously? He's one of the best manga authors of all time; read his other stuff if you enjoy Gai.

I'm not too familiar with manga authors or history in general. I'll give it a go though. The mindgames were really enjoyable.
