Happy new year everybody on AP!
Just a question. When do we get rid of the these awful bright colours of the Mod/senior names? I thought this was a christmas special. The colour of the stars are ok btw, but the names…Oh god.

Oh shoot, forgot to check last year's thing.
@MDL:
1.) Start getting decent money for my youtube stuff
2.) Reach at least 7k subscribers (almost at 4k currently, and that's taken me roughly a year and a half to accumulate)
3.) See a fanfic or story idea through to the end by actually finishing it for once.
4.) Complete a Let's Play of something
1.) I've earned £752 ($1103) in the last 6-7 months, so with all things considered that's a very big yes.
2.) A resounding hell yes. On the verge of 10k right now.
3.) Failed. My renewed interest in writing died pretty quickly.
4.) Although I do eventually plan on completing what I started, this was a fail because of the New Year deadline.
2 wins and 2 losses, with the 2 wins being related to something I've been actively working on all year round.
Yep, makes loads of sense. :)
Hmmm. Not big on NYR I'm more of a go with the flow type of dude I'll make one anyways.
1. Make a bigger name for myself on AP
2. Finish School ( HATE THIS THING!!!)
3. Purchase all the video games I want that come out this year
4. Finally Buy a house (Fingers crossed)
Happy new year everybody on AP!

I'm pretty sure they're staying. Change is good!
1. Started my Roth IRA last year (stupid lack of easy retirement options for freelancers), so this year will be all about figuring out how to invest everything beyond the yearly 5,500 limit :P
2. Volunteer more often. Did a few homeless shelter/social welfare things last year, so the goal is to keep that going. Maybe once a month…
I don't have resolutions as much as I have certain goals for the new year… I think they can all be boiled down to the single ultimate goal of: get your goddamn life together.
! Health Goals:
Fix sleep schedule
Get fit. Lose some weight. Eat better. No fast food, no soda.
Take better care of my eyes.
! Life goals:
Finish my dang videogame so I can move on.
Get a real job.
Move out of Savannah, preferably to Austin.
Get rid of extra crap laying around.
Try to find homes for the strays I've been feeding.
Dress a bit better. Maybe focus on makeup a bit more.
! Art goals:
Do new animations for my reel, at least 1 acting piece and 2 game animations.
Do a chapter of my webcomic.
Go to a convention. Try to get an art table.
Fill up my sketchbooks I got for Christmas.
I think that's about it for the moment. There is probably a lot of other things I'll do but ultimately I just want to be more active in steering my life to where I want to be and just be more aware of what the fuck is going on.

Look into Vanguard 500. It's bar none the best mutual fund in the business if you're serious about investing for retirement.
I'm fairly certain they allow overseas investors too but you might have to look into it.

Definitely will look into it! Thanks!
I'm back in NY, actually, and banking with Chase (they set up the Roth IRA) so I'll see what they have to say about it.
No problem! =)
I read a book about it ("Common Sense on Mutual Funds") which made a pretty solid argument in favor of Vanguard 500. It obviously contained some bias since the author, John C. Bogle, established Vanguard. But he provided a ton of evidence for his claims so I give him the benefit of the doubt. Fact checking after reading it also matched up with his claims (and were even better in some cases; costs of investing with the fund has dropped from 0.20% down to 0.17%).
It's at least worth researching a bit.~
I'm pretty sure they're staying. Change is good!
Well, I guess, someday I'm getting used to it. I just liked the former green
Thanks for the answer.
Found it!
Bump.
I resolutely resolve to keep drinking smoking and spending all my money on records in 2017
Not specifically resolutions, but goals/milestones relating to my YouTube stuff:

-so didnt do so great on the health goals..
-did great on the life goals: finished my game/thesis, moved to austin, got a great job, got rid of a bunch of junk! Didn't find homes for the strays i was feeding though. :( Hope they're doing ok where ever they are … Also I didn't dress any better and my makeup is still shitty
-art goals are about 50%. I'm animating about 9-10 hours a day now and i did go to a convention. Also I was finally able to afford a cintiq! ... but my computer cant handle it yet. bleh
this year i really want to focus on my finances and my health.
-I want to pay off my credit card and save up enough money to go on a nice vacation in 2018
-lose like 30/40 lbs
-just take better care of my appearance in general
pretty busy lately so no real artistic goals this year. Maybe try to draw more or something
I have what feels like really big goals next year, but with such an awakening this year I feel like I should shoot big.
-get my gender confirmation surgery done
-get myself back in shape
-have doctors check out my chronic leg pain again
-make my new art project public
What can I say, I've been heavily inspired to do my best ^_^
Now! IT'S DEAD! 2016 IS FINALLY DEAD!
When the clocks turned to midnight I suddenly felt empty, realizing that most of 2016's problems are following me into this year. :getlost: Anyway…
My top New Year's resolution is to actually participate in this tradition. For all my life I've feigned interest in this holiday and made lists of resolution that were general things. This year:
-Work on starting an actually good career, or start schooling toward that goal.
-Promote that Russia hacking thing with what little influence I have. This can't just be ignored, for better or worse. I'd also would like Trump's birth certificate. To those who remember that he posted that thing...I want it again.
-Keep healthy. I had a stomach issue a while back that I thought I recovered from, so I want to focus on avoiding that again.
Lets hope we never gonna say " i miss 2016 "
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! Let us hope that 2017 will be a MUCH better year than 2016 ever was.
Also, the only new years resolution I have for now is finding a new source of income so I can finally quit my shitty job.
My new year's resolution is to win enough scholarship money to go through college without crippling debt
Just going to continue to strive to be a good person who has a positive impact on peoples lives. Created a few jobs last year, so I think I'm on the right track.
This year it'll be:
1. Become a consistent blogger and increase my audience by double at least. Also make some form of profit from said blog.
2. Complete Chinese reading/writing/speaking course by the end of the year.
3. Start some form of physical activity and get into a routine.
4. Get back into reading more religious literature.
5. Either start home business or get a flexible job
6. Stop being such a hermit
Phew, as for the results from last year:
1. Definitely increased my audience by double, buti haven't become consistent or gained actual profit yet.
2. Failed so hard >_<
3. I did start physical activity :D and have completed my weight loss goal, but not working out consistently.
4. I'm gonna consider this a fail.
5. Flexible job check, but not satisfied with it.
6. Half check :D I'm getting there.
As for this year, my goals are mostly family and money related:
1. Get a higher paying job or more hours with current one and save up at least $5k by the end of the year.
2. Do whatever I need to do to take care of my mother so that she is secure and happy
3. Be a consistent part of my new nephew's (due in March) life
4. Enroll and complete in-person French refresher course
5. Grow intellectually, mentally, and spiritually. Become confident and focused in life. Be more patient with others. Be someone who can help more without neglecting myself.
2016 was the year of self-discovery for me.
For 2017, let the action begin:
I guess that's the big plan.
Yeah, last years ones didn't go so well (and one or two I apparently didn't realize I made because I completely ignored them).
I have three things in mind at this time and have actually already started them so hopefully I can keep up with it.
-Learn Spanish. This was one I put down for last year but never got around to it. However, this time with motivation and with a clear cut plan I hope to be at least competent by the years end, or even sooner. Current plan is to just write simple things in English then write it in Spanish. Learn vocabulary from that and by reading and writing each day make improvements from there.
-Learn more about my field. While I have learned a good bit about different things in my field, I am still pretty ignorant on a lot of things. By just reading up and writing about the field every day, I can expand my mind on many subject.
-Do more creative stuff from drawing to just writing short stories or other things. The nice thing about being active in this forum is I have become better at analyzing stuff, however I still find myself lacking greatly in creativity. Hopefully just doodling or writing randomly will overtime improve that aspect.
Let's bump out the last one.
Cut down on junk food (not really)
Get a new job (yes)
Think some of kind of solid career direction for future (k-kinda?)
This year it's only health-based, mainly to cut out chocolate and ice cream completely, and other junk food snacks to a lesser extent.
I don't even want to look up last year's goals…
For 2017 all I want to do is learn Spanish and start taking Judo classes
For me 2016 was weird year cause weird things happend i dont know to call them good or bad
So, children, how have yours resolutions ended up?
Anyway, here's mine for the year:
Listen to one music album per week. I have been very lazy and kind of feel into the whole listen only to one song I listen on the radio per artist, completely ignoring that most of my favourite songs aren't usually very radio friendly.
One book per month. My job requires me to spend a lot of time buried in paper and so I've been very neglectful to one of my favourite hobbies.
Finally learn French.
Spend a bit more time in the gym and less on a computer.
This seems basic enough to at least do 3 of them till 2019.
Forgot the Surf lessons, even though that one will be a bit tougher.
2016 was the year of self-discovery for me.
For 2017, let the action begin:
- I want to get my name and legal gender changed and possibly get through the surgeries. The latter can only be done after the former, so I suspect I will only be able to get the legal stuff done this year.
- Continue with the exercising and weight-lifting. Gotta get strong.
- Getting to love Swedish again after university made me hate it.
I guess that's the big plan.
so I suspect I will only be able to get the legal stuff done this year.
Oh poor little thing.
Despite this, I've made great progress (as great as was possible) in 2017, so I'm quite proud. Not only did I start the legal name/gender change process, I also started hormone replacement therapy, which is going well so far. Had appointments with various surgeons about chest-reconstruction surgery and managed to find one who's both sympathetic and experienced.
- Continue with the exercising and weight-lifting. Gotta get strong.
Yep, done and more. Started some basic cardio with the kettlebell and seeing results.
- Getting to love Swedish again after university made me hate it.
Eh, more or less. I still have a long way to go, but I'm getting there.
And now for 2018:
I feel disheartened that my last year's resolutions are right there on the top of the page. They're just sitting there, haunting me. Haunting.
But I have some new ones:
-Last year I did good on keep healthy, and even stepped it up by doing some strength training. I feel better than ever, and I'd like to keep that up.
-Keep working on that career. This year was bust, but I'll try new things.
-Volunteer at an animal shelter. There's a bunch in my neighborhood that have been close to me, that I've never been aware of.
This year, I am resolving to drink more responsibly, save more money, and only take the stairs at work. Good luck to everyone!
this year i really want to focus on my finances and my health.
-I want to pay off my credit card and save up enough money to go on a nice vacation in 2018
-lose like 30/40 lbs
-just take better care of my appearance in generalpretty busy lately so no real artistic goals this year. Maybe try to draw more or something
regarding last year:
I did better on finances but I didn't really do enough for health. I got a check up though so thats something i guess.
-got my credit score in a good place. Does that count?? But I did save up a bunch for a trip I'm taking in Feb, super excited about it!
-nope. Lost about 10lbs tho
-Kinda did better in looks. Can always be better
this year:
-learn photography
-would like to lose another 10lbs, more prefferably
-I wanna start looking at moving into a house or something
-do more with my hair. less monotony!
Drink less
Study more + graduate uni with a decent mark
Actually learn Kanji
Play piano more
Find a girlfriend
Figure out my future job and post-grad plan :ninja:
A bit late to the party but…
Figure out a way to schedule studying and schoolwork properly
Start actually budgeting my money
Improve my debate skills. I hope I don't show it but I don't really take criticism very well and even online debates fill me with dread, so I'm hoping to work past that
Keep myself fit, especially my lower body. I biked a lot in the fall but I can't really do it in the winter so I don't want to stagnate
Pick up a new manga or two, since I've only been reading OP weekly for a year and a half now. Whether it's a shitty one that makes OP all the more exciting or a good one that I can follow fervently like OP
@Kaido:

What are you studying ?
I'm pretty much stuck choosing between two life long dreams, which is either to pick up drumming with a real teacher and commitment or enroll in a self defense class/learn a martial art which I can use for self defense. While the former is good for my soul (and would stop my annoying habit of drumming on tables with my fingers lol), the latter would help me feel a lot more prepared and subjectively more confident. I don't feel unsafe at all, in the contrary. But there were situations in the past I felt really helpless and a structural approach to self defense would help to grow out of that in a way.
Keeping time and money in mind I know I can only pick up one of the two though…x(
-got my credit score in a good place. Does that count?? But I did save up a bunch for a trip I'm taking in Feb, super excited about it!
Nice! Enjoy the time!!! Traveling is always a treat and is even sweeter when you're not literally
after the journey lol@Kaido:

You might laugh but I actually consider online debates a harder environment, because you can not read the other persons intent and emotions so well, which leads to some people doing something I feel to be utterly unacceptable: forget that there is another human being behind the screen. So I guess if you survive the harshness of certain online communities You're a battle tried veteran haha. The key to this all is to not take things personally (people literally do not know you, remember that) and also to know when a debate will bear no results and call it a day. Save that energy for bigger and better things :)
What are you studying ?
Journalism, which itself is pretty easy, but right now I have to take prereqs like Psych and Econ which I'm not really interested in…and the less interested I am in something, the less effort I tend to put into it
@minus.:

Definitely. Though I do like online debates in that I can take a while to respond and work on my argument, instead of having to draw from my mind on the spot

I think everyone's like that, even though we probably shouldn't be. I had two classes about middle-age history this semester and it took me a while to understand why it was so interesting. But at least, in the end, it served me well.
I don't what you're seeing in psychology, but economics sounds like it's unavoidable in journalism
