I'm finally done watching the first 2 seasons of Merlin. It's pretty decent if you're into fantasy (it's no Legend of the Seeker however).

They went the smallville route, and as such Merlin and Arthur are young men and the show starts when Merlin moves to Camelot, and Arthur is still crown prince. Arthur's father Uther Pendragon has put a ban on magic in his kingdom. Anyone found to be practicing magic will be executed immediately. So it is up to young Merlin to save Arthur and Camelot with his magic, while hiding it from everyone.

Many characters from the Arthurian lore make an appearance: Guinnevere, Morgana, Lancelot, Mordred, Morgause, and more. There's also excalibur, and a host of mythological creatures pop up, such as dragons, griffons, trolls and the black knight.

Pretty entertaining. Anyone has seen it also?

[They didn't follow the real lore to the letter though. In the stories, king Uther Pendragon and Merlin conspire so that Uther can sleep with the wife of his enemy. Out of this union the bastard son Arthur is born. King Arthur, in turn, sleeps with his sister Morgause and the offspring of that union is Mordred]

I watch it from time to time. More for the fact that it's pretty much assembled from the Doctor Who cast XD It is quite good however.

Need to pick it up on DVD/Blu-Ray methinks.

Yeah it's pretty good, only thing that bugged me (mostly in season one) were the suicidal tendencies the main characters have.. "I want to sacrifice myself to save him!" "No, now I will sacrifice myself instead to save you!" "No I won't let you do that I want to suicide first!!" Geez guys get some self-esteem..

Anyway, season 3 should appear somewhere this year, something to keep an eye out for, but I think they still have to start filming

Merlin is a very nice show. I've also seen the first two series, and can't wait for Lady Morgana to return, pissed off I can imagine, to fulfill her namesake's destiny (if you're familiar with Arthurian legend). Also, the Great Dragon needs to come back too.

Last series finished around Christmas last year. I'd imagine series 3 will start filming around spring time.

Well, I can only guess they needed more villains, and Mordred seemed appropriate despite a lack of continuity with the 'true' legends. Note also that he is a young boy.

And Merlin/Arthur are young men, that was a simple mistake on WinterGT's part.

Ok i edited the first post to say "men" since it was confusing. (and fixed another mistake I made in the lore)

And Mordred's just a kid, they're using a liberal interpretation of the story.

Love the show. Haven't gotten a chance to watch past season 2 episode 1 though.

Yeah, I've watched it. Like it, don't really LOVE it. I enjoy it, but Colin Morgan, I feel could be better. He is a good actor though. Series 2 had some nice episodes,
and a good finale ! Georgia Moffet was good in it, and the showdown between Arthur, Merlin and the Dragon was great. Nice performances from Richard Wilson too.

The BBC's 3 main period/ classic reproductions shows. Mainstream lineup.
Robin Hood's gone though, so perhaps Mark Gatiss & Moffat's Sherlock Holmes can replace it.

I liked him the most in the first few episodes, but then his performance degraded somewhat, I dunno.

Yes, it's hard to say which I found the best episode, but this was definately one of the better ones.

Just watched the first two episodes of the 3rd season.

! Morgana is getting to be a real bitch, her little smirk is an annoyance. I'm not really sure why she didn't go ahead and tell the King about Merlin trying to poison her. He did mess up her plan after all. Which kinda makes me think she'll end up turning good again. It was nice to see John Hurt again as the Dragon, I didn't think he'd be back that soon.

Also

! It's pretty interesting to see their take on Mordred. I imagined him to be a bit more tough looking. I know this is nowhere near where Mordred kills Arthur, but I'd like to see their take on what Mordred would look like as an adult.

I didn't think I'd be interested in this series that much as I never really seemed to have time for it (it's always on when I'm at work). But I caught a few episodes of the previous seasons during the time I was on holiday, on BBC America and I got hooked on it.

Now that series 3 is on, I'm making more of an effort to get time to watch it!

I started watching this show last month and I am up to season 3. I particularly enjoy it, well I like most of the BBC show but I do love fantasy
