You know, sometimes for whatever reason, the characters do something that seems out-of-character. Generally this happens in filler arcs/episodes, although sometimes some random scenes get thrown in here and there, to add in a little padding or comic relief, but they're not quite right. I suppose it can happen in the manga too - I always thought it was a little weird that Luffy tried to kill Zoro for attacking the people in Whiskey Peak. The dub has it's crimes too, of course (i.e. Zoro clucking like a chicken).

Some OOC moments I can recall:

• In the first TV special, I don't remember the exact situation, but Zoro says something to Sanji like "you get to ask some chicks out before I do". (Yes I'm botching it up badly, but I don't remember it too well, I hated that special).

• In the Rainbow Mist filler arc, Nami forces Sanji to carry her shopping bags, even though it was causing him to be electricuted because of the metal in them. Come on, Nami is not THAT much of a bitch.

• In movie 2, Sanji thrusting his hips and telling Nami he wants to do "this and that" with her. Not TOTALLY OOC, but Sanji isn't typically that…direct. He's more gentlemanly. ;P

• The whole opening scene of Movie 3 where they're all telling Chopper he can't be in their crew if he's a coward. Something is very wrong with this picture. "I-can't-go-to-the-next-island disease" anyone? XD

• In the FOXY filler after that lost-memory filler, Nami leaving poor Usopp to be molested by a bunch of horny guys in a jail cell. :o Again, she's not THAT much of a cold-hearted bitch.

I'm sure there was a lot of stuff in the Warship Island arc too, but I've blocked a lot of that out of memory. One thing I know is that while normally I enjoy every moment that Usopp is on screen, during the Apis story I just wanted to duct-tape his mouth shut and stuff him in a closet. He had PMS or something.

It seems like they tend to over-simplify some of the characters personalities into over-used cliches. Luffy ends up being dumb as a rock, Sanji a ball of raging hormones, Nami a greedy, heartless bee-yatch (and I really think she is certainly NOT, at ALL, BTW), etc..

Anyway, there's my little rant of the evening. Anyone else got some I missed?

Yeah it is actually been said that Nami is more bitch-y in the anime
than her original, many times.

For one example, she took care of Zoro's swords so roughly in G8 Arc…

I really don't think Nami is a bitch. She's no saint, but she definately cares exponentially for her nakama, and the filler stuff where she does mean, selfish things like that just aren't right. Sure, in the beginning, she made Zoro fall down the greasy slope so she could get up, but I think she's changed a lot since then. She wasn't even a real crewmember then.

I haven't seen G8 yet (yeah, even though my avatar is from G8). I don't know what evils it hath committed. ;)
I can't say this is really OOC, but Johnny and Yosaku's hairstyles in that one filler-flashback episode were definately WTF.

I liked it, because they seemed to have no resolve back then. That's probably my favorite filler episode.

Lessee…..I remember Zoro actually saying "Sanji," where he never does in the manga, as a Japanese member once pointed out. And him cutting steel randomly in filler, like with Fullbody and.....that fat guy from the Apis arc. Dunno if that counts, but hey.

But like you said, they just play on small things and make them cliche, so it's not too often that they're really out of character. but, Toei makes me go "WTF?" with some filler. A memory stealing seahorse? Robin becoming one of Foxy's crewmembers? And I'm not too sure of what exactly happened, but I remember hearing something about a mole helping Tonjit.

in Winter Special, when Robin misunderstand drama and opera. the way she act really make me 'WHAT??!!! :blink: OMG is this the same Robin I adore so much??!!' fainted
but, honestly that was such a funny scene. –-> never seen Robin made any funny movements before :P

I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard that movie 6 had some SERIOUS out of character moments. o.o
Also, I guess you could call this one "out of common sense":
When chopper led the bad guys away from the animals, they all dissed him and called him a coward for running and not fighting. x.x
Then, Luffy had to save HIM! Chopper didn't even beat the bad guy in his own movie. :/

And yeah, movie 3 was just all wrong, IMO. -_-

Mohji looked really weird in episode 151. Like, not his hairstyle, since it's been established his hair is going to change every time we see him, but just the animation was really…weird, compared to his earlier appearances where he actually looked squishy and cute. <3 In the manga he looked cute in that chapter, though.

End of episode 47, after the Buggy side story. I can understand Luffy remembering it's where Gold Roger died, but remembering that it's called "The Town of the Beginning and the End" doesn't seem like him.

It was indeed in the manga I think. I much prefer the manga more than the Anime. The anime's art is awful, the animation choppy and the music mostly crap.

Luffy remembered it was the Hajimari to Owari no machi because it was such a special place and had stuff to do with the pirate king. Anywhere else he wouldn't

One thing always on my mind is that salesman in the Nami filler. Sanji was going to give Luffy to him since the paper that Nami wanted was close to 100,000,000, and they already supposedly knew that Luffy was worth that much, but this is before they knew the bounty changed x_X; I don't know if this cooooounts..

I thought it was REALLY out of character for Foxy when they had him scam the Strawhats after they saved his ass and his ship. I mean, come on, Foxy may be a notorious cheater but he seemed to hold the rules of the DBF in high regard and definitely didn't seem to be the kind of guy to backstab someone that saved his life. As a Foxy fan that kind of pissed me off, especially because it happened after they gave him that really cool speech after he got beat by the Frog Fang pirates.

If KF subbed it right (which I assume they did), he went as low as 4,800,000 before Sanji did that. Therefore 30,000,000 would be enough.

I thought the scene between Usopp and Daddy was a bit out of character. Okay, running and getting the gun shot out of his hand was ok, but grovelng? :huh: I always thought that was a bit much.

This is in the manga, but I thought Usopp going to protect Nojiko from that one merman was also a bit OOC too. :lol:

From Movie 3: The scene where Usopp abandons Luffy to avoid getting chased. That movie was never my favorite.

Hehe, I thought it was odd when Johnny AND Usopp abandoned Zoro tied up in the boat at Arlong Park, too. XD I guess it goes to show how much they've grown over time if anything.

BTW, I think my favorite out of character moment was Robin in that play in the Winter Special. I know it was kinda strange, but I like how the anime had some fun with Robin's character. At least it made most Robin fans go WTF?! O_O

I remember the bit in Loguetown with Sanji in the cooking contest being the first time I really noticed something and going "whuuu"? Sanji flirting with a cute woman was in-character, Sanji touching said woman without her permission, especially since he didn't even know her, struck me as being very strange. I couldn't remember him having done that in any of the previous episodes and it just sat there, needling me in my brain. At this point I hadn't read the manga, but it just struck me as being odd, to the point where I did actually go and look the bit up to see if it was in there. Turns out it wasn't and I felt vindicated.

Bunches and bunches of other stuff that I can't think of right now; that's the one that sticks out in my mind the most.

well i was re watching episode 115 when they put the new them in and they show robin. i didnt mind this at first, but then im like wtf why did they show robin if ppl didnt know if robin was gonna join the crew. nice move toei

Well the Strawhats volunteered to do a play, and while in the play their general character quirks started to come to surface. Robin, being the serious character, Toei decided it would be funny if she "misinterpreted" the play as an opera, or something, so that she ended up singing and overacting all of her lines and doing some rather extreme motions on the stage. Does this sound like the usual Robin to you?
