Oh, man, ever since I read the pages about the Straw Hats and Buggy's crew, I've been wanting to read more. They're soo good.. The data on the Kuroneko pirates is awesome! Thanks for another awesome page!
-
Awesome…..In total, how long did it take you to collect all the info and put it into the site?
-
if u read it he said it took him a week..
omae nice work again, i loved the buggy page and now its the kuro page! i
the info on jango, kuro and the nyaba brothers
gota love the pic of jango too where his hypnotizer rings has his face in them
-
Excellent work. I've been wanting to read about Kuro and his crew.
Cool!

Are you related to this person:
http://puru-i.net/onepiece/hissatsu/kuroneko.html
?Seems like both of you are missing same attacks:
*Byou-satsu (4-117)
*Neko o Kaburu (4-108)
*Chakuramu (4-153)Good job though.
-
Oooooh….there it is.
Must read the fine print next time. -

?No, I found that a while back but it has a lot of errors, plus I disagree with much of what it says (but more importantly doesn't say)
*Seems like both of you are missing same attacks:
Byou-satsu (4-117)Byousatsu is a style, read the entire work and you'll see I make mention of it and fully explain it in the profile.
*Neko o Kaburu (4-108)
That's not an attack name
And besides, that's Neko Baba.*Chakuramu (4-153)
Chakram isn't the name of an attack, it's a weapon (Jango never calls out any attack besides his spells, nor does anyone else name his attacks) and I make mention of it in Jango's profile. If you're counting that you might as well have included 'Cat's Paws' (which I also covered
).
Nice try Daniel, try reading more thoroughly next time though

My pleasure! As soon as I stumble through Krieg someday it will be a lot more fun dealing with the heavily developed crews/groups.
-
Wow, there was a lot on there that I never knew. Especially the part about Morgan being the one Marine that Kuro left alive. Thanks!
-

Isn't that nifty? It's stuff like that, that makes me really respect Oda. Even when the story was in its early life, he still included very detailed and intriguing twists and quirks in the background.
-
Awesome! I've been looking forward to another one of these. Much thanks for searching out all those hidden references. I would never have found that whole ''Django'' bit.
I can't wait til you get to some of the more ''grander'' and more developed crews, like the Baroque Works.
Also, I'm curious… Will you list groups such as Wapol's gang and more recently, the Government Agents as ''Crew Profiles'' too, or will you choose a different path? I get the feeling you're planning on profiling pretty much every major character, but it'll be pretty hard to take characters like Smoker or Ao Kiji and put them in groups. Unless you're planning an overall ''Marine'' profile or something...
-
…Meow Mix, Meow Mix, please deliver... XD
I never knew that was your site until I saw this. I feel embarrassed now. ^^;; I seriously love your writing style on the profiles, btw. It just flows so well.
One little note...I really doubt this is canon, but I've seen several Japanese sites claiming that Kuro's birthday is September 6. I've never heard of Oda stating this anywhere, so I don't know how reliable the info is, but when several sites are repeating the same info...
-
Erm, neko o kaburu and neko baba are totally different attack. They appear in different pages, too. Or well, I included defense in mine, too, so I picked anything has 'neko' in attack/defense/whatever name.
**Kuroneko Pirates
Shamu (Nyaa-ban Brothers):
*Neko o Kaburu (4-108) ネコをかぶる (ねこをかぶる) // fake modesty, hiding his claws
*Neko Baba (4-109) ネコババ (ねこばば) // pocketing whatever he finds.
*Neko-ze (4-116) ネコ背 (ねこぜ) // stoopNote: All Shamu's attack has the word "neko" in it. They're normal Japanese expressions.
Buchi:
*Byou-satsu (4-117) 猫殺 (びょうさつ) // pun with 秒殺 (killing instantly). In Buchi's attack name, it uses "cat" character instead of "second (as in minute, second)" character.
*Cat the Funjatta (4-117,4-118) キャット・ザ・フンジャッタ (きゃっと・ざ・ふんじゃった) // pun with famous children's song, "chopstick". Japanese title is "I stepped on cats."Shamu+Buchi:
*Neko-yanagi Dai Koushin (4-121) ネコ柳大行進 (ねこやなぎだいこうしん) // Lit. trans: Pussy Willow Great March.Kuro:
*Nuki-ashi (4-136, explanation on 4-138) 抜き足 (ぬきあし) // stealthy steps. Cats are known for being a "good user" of stealthy steps.
*Shakushi (5-64) 杓死 (しゃくし) // Pun with famous Japanese saying, "猫も杓子も" (ねこもしゃくしも, neko mo shakushi mo). Meaning "Everybody and his brother" or "Every Tom, Dick, and Harry". Wth?Jango:
Chakuramu (4-153) チャクラム (ちゃくらむ)
One, two, Jango - Wan, Tsuu, Jango ワン、ツー、ジャンゴ (わん、つー、じゃんご)I still don't get why Byousatsu isn't an attack name. Could you please explain to dumb me?
By the way, even if I played piano from K-12, I didn't know how to play Neko Funjatta until 6th grade xD;;
-
LOL at September 6 for Kuro's birthday. Yeah, that would definitely be an Odaish birthday, though I don't remember him ever having stated it.
(September = kugatsu. 6 = roku.)
Do these sites have a source for the info or somewhat?
-

Yeah, that's why I more often than not attempt to use 'groups' when referring to them. I have a huge personal list of groups I'm keeping. It's basically a chart of pain that is to come.

Sounds cute but never seen it in manga or guides. MAY be included on toys or cards but I won't count those.
Erm, neko o kaburu and neko baba are totally different attack.
The 'attack' Neko Baba occurs on 108 and is revealed as such an 109. On 108 he's using a pun.
I still don't get why Byousatsu isn't an attack name. Could you please explain to dumb me?
It's announcing a style of attack. Usopp simply saying 'Hissatsu' isn't a move.
By the way, even if I played piano from K-12, I didn't know how to play Neko Funjatta until 6th grade xD;;
Not everyone can be that good right?
If you'd like to discuss anything more on this I'd appreciate it if you e-mail me at my site's address tsujimania@hotmail.com so I can add it to site referrence. Thanks!

Neko o Kaburu is how he acted from the last cell of p105 to the first cell of p107. By acting he's weak, he tried to make Zoro off guard.
Neko-baba, as you said, happened when he took away Zoro's sword.
Ah, now I see about byousatsu.
I'm keeping it here so people will know.

I still say it's a pun, not a technique. He even conjugates it.

Then would you be so kind as to also forward your response to the e-mail address? Since you're replying to my work and apparently want to help I'd appreciate it if I could keep it together with my site e-mail for site referrence. Thanks for helping Daniel!

Cool , but Kuro's crew was never interesting to me. The cat puns were fun, though.
-
Great job, as always. I'm REALLY looking forward to the Baroque Works profile… And, hell, all of 'em.
I salute you once again.

Not that I saw. Then again I don't have Japanese text support and can't read the language anyways. They were also claiming that Jango's birthday is…sometime in March (I want to say the 5th, because someone set a kiriban at 3596 and I have the feeling it was for Jango and Kuro's birthdays...I've never seen the exact date stated though) and that Lucci's is June 2. o_O_
-

I was never crazy about them but pain before pleasure.
Actually you know what made me like Kuro about 500x more? I had totally forgotten that his eyeglass-raising thing was a habit from wearing the Cat's Paws. That was really very well thought out and made me like Kuro a lot more.
And of course it added another 5 points to my fanboy appreciation of Oda's attention to detail.
-
Well, I enjoyed reading it because Kuro is my favorite villain. I have just always liked the sneaky/cunning type villains, and I thought Oda made one of the best of that type with Kuro.
A question about Jango's hypnotism…
I'm not sure about this, and I don't remember if it was ever mentioned in the manga...but does Jango moving his hat down (like Michael Jackson) help protect him from his own hypnotism? You know...when he goes 1, 2, and then moves his hat to cover his eyes before he says "Jango"? Since this keeps him from looking at his own chakram and stuff. I can't remember if he ever accidentally hypnotized himself while doing the hat thing or not (does he only hypnotize himself when he also looks at the chakram?).
I know it is probably only done to look cool, but maybe it's also done to be practical. Of course he might have still hypnotized himself before while doing the hat thing though. I'd have to read the arc again to see. Anyway, just a minor thing I've been wondering about.

Great question, have to take a look at the images to make sure. It wouldn't be the first time a slight nuance on Oda's part has gone unnoticed.
-
Kuro is my favorite OP villain. Reading that page really satisfyed my fandom! Thanx!
-

Eh. I wouldn't call that a slight nuance. I always thought it was rather obvious he used the hat to protect himself from the effects of his own hypnotism. If he's collected enough to think about it at the time, of course. Which isn't often.
-
Well, I only brought it up because I thought it could have been the reason why sometimes he is hypnotized and sometimes he is not. Maybe to help with the section or something….
Ok so far he did not do the hat thing during these times:
-during the flashback - because I don't think he had a hat - he hypnotized himself
-Hypnotized Luffy on the cliff - he also hypnotized himself
-Hypnotized the kids - he also hypnotized himselfBut I've yet to find one where he did the hat thing…can somebody tell me some other times he has used his hypnotism? I checked when he hypnotized Buchi...but it was off-panel.
EDIT:
Ok, I found two times where he does the hat thing. It's where he hypnotizes the pirate crew into becoming strong...it also hypnotizes Luffy. He also does it to put Luffy to sleep when he is super strong.
So maybe that could be the reason, instead of simply the seriousness of the situation?
-
Eh. I wouldn't call that a slight nuance.
Maybe it's just me but since I don't watch the animation it wasn't as obvious. I always thought it was part of the Michael Jackson image ya know? But since Kuro brought it up I've noticed that he SPECIFICALLY does it at the moment when he says "Jango". I think I'm going to add that in there, thank you Kuro.
And another reason I mentioned "nuances" is because of something Dude and I just stumbled upon that I have to add to the Buggy section.
-
…Something about Buggy? What is it?!

And yeah, it isn't very obvious in the manga. I would have missed it if I didn't watch the show.

About Buggy, I added it to the page in "Notes" so here it is:
Recently (Summer 2005) OP fan The Dude and I were discussing the flags I have designed for use with each pirate/group profile on this site. I asked him if Buggy's flag without the red nose looked strange. I went through a lot of trouble to make sure the nose was exactly as Buggy himself had it on his hat but then The Dude reminded me that the animation always displayed the flag on the ship with a red nose. Finding this strange I checked out Buggy's hat in the animation and sure enough it was a white nose. Oda has also drawn Buggy multiple times in color in the manga with the white nose on his hat. It would appear that as a part of his nose complex, Buggy is unwilling to portray himself with a big red nose! I would find it hard to believe that this is a mistake or a coincidence and there are a lot of those in OP! Bravo Oda!
-
Wow, I love that tidbit about Buggy… it's the obscure details like these that make being an OP fanboy just that fun
In fact, I know I read at some point at least somewhat long ago that the marine in Kuro's plan was Morgan, but I guess I must have long forgotten it... so when I read it again in this I automatically went into annoying fanboy mode and rambled on to my sister about it for a while.
-
Isn't that neat? Dude and I were flipping out.
