Ugh I started drawing in 2007/when I was 12… and I never stopped.
My dad and teachers think it's getting 'serious' now.
I thougth I was always pretty serious about it...
And I drew like this then. I thought I was pretty good too.

I don't draw much Anime/Manga anymore… I kinda went off it when I grew up and noticed how most series are just the same. But there's always the few rare ones I let in and deem great. One Piece has made it's way to one of the exseptions.
I mostly draw cartoons.
And I hate pencils and Photoshop enough to believe they're secretly working wth the devil.

Oh yeha, I'm not good at atomny, I learnt how to draw arms/bodies form Sonic and hair and boobs from BLEACH, so they're probablly really unrealistic.

Apparently I was always good at emotions/exspressions, btu i don't think so, until after watching that person draw on iScribble I could only draw happy/goffy faces.
Lines are good for drawing negative-exspressions.

I like Vectors yes, it was the only good thing about PhotoShop for me. I started doing Vectors 'cause mine friend Mosh-Pit always did it and did it beautifully. That was mine first Vector, then I stopped doing it.
But since I got the flash-like-not-attually-but-end-result-like-flash-like-programe which is like the only thing I use now - that and paint - all it's tools are vector, or these pencil/brush tools which come out with a squiggily line which looks.. annoying.

I always use the line tool as the pen tool doesn't alow seprate curving.

The only set back nis that ther'es no 'fill' tool so you have to colour it all by hand ot remake the outline and colour that in with line-tool on a lower layer.. and sometiems the layers switch places - especially if it's in animation part of the programe.

But at least if gives you a colour-edit tool that let's you have it coloured diffrently like 3 colour or 4 colour or linear, I use 4 colour for most backgrounds.
And it had a transparent tool so you can transparent one item.

For 14, it's really cool stuff. I like the vector color stuff in particular.

Anyone can learn anatomy. Just get the right info and practice. Takes a lot of life drawing, a bit of study and reference, then a ton of academic application.

While she was an ass for telling you off like that. She's partially true. Most schools won't allow cartoons because it's not what you're there for. Most if not all art classes want to teach the Foundation of art, from observational skills. She kinda has the right to fail you if you do cartoons. Don't be mad if she does fail you.

But by no means should you ever let her get to you. If by your imagination you want zombies for your growth/decay, then do it. Tell her that's how you see it.

It's a bad idea to argue with art teachers, they're a TON of help when they need to be.

A quick way to do the assignment, would be to draw both a growing Rose plant, and that same rose plant, dead/decaying.

I don't like to do things quick, I like to be extradiffrent and go to the limit of orginality, if I slack off in those thigns it turns out crap xD And it's a long assignment, the whole year filling up a sketch book with Groth/Decay. ffftttt.

Mmm.. I know my art teacher didn't approve that much of 'cartoons', however she would let me draw/paint them for free projects.
While I was extremely happy with that at the time, but as for now I kinda regret it. I could've had much more elaborate paintings, but instead I drew/painted anime for projects which I have since junked. I think at the most I have 3 of my works from my HS art class, and one of them is only being saved because a friend asked for it the next time she comes down.

Anywho. I'd say it would be best for you and your teacher to work out a a medium between realisitic and cartoony, like maybe doing a few as cartoony and the rest more realistic/abstract/whatever; or you could always do the assignment her was and insert your own cartoony elements. Finding a way to blend styles together, you know? idk, it's up to you really.

As for the growth/decay thing, I'm assuming it's going to be a series of projects as opposed to just one picture which you add to each time?
If this is the case, maybe you could do the zombies for one picture and do more 'mainstream' stuff for the others? Like for another you could do an object rotting or falling apart? idk

It's crap when people disrupt passions for their own personal views of something as broad as the artistic spectrum. If the kid has the impetus and the passion and the energy, wind them up and watch them go. Shutting people down so young turns them into cubicle whores.

A couple I hadn't seen in 17 years wrote me recently. They had a kid. The kid is 12 or 13 already and draws anime/manga all the time, but they dislike that stuff, wanting their kid to do what THEY believe is classical art (modern art). When I told them it would be best to enthuse the kid toward what she wants to do and likes doing, the relationship was broken…. they're assholes, sure.

Just do what you love doing.

Wow, to be at this level at 15 and having only drawn for 2-3 years is INCREDIBLE! You're better than a lot of people I've seen who have been drawing for ages. I started drawing as soon as I could grasp the subject (like, 4) and I was very serious about it by the time I was 10. However upon getting the internet in 2002 when I was 12 I got lazy. I didn't draw for most of my teens, it wasn't until I was about 15 or 16 that I started drawing again. What amazed me is my abilities didn't lessen any, in fact they seemed more refined even tho I let them lie dormant for years.

Now I've stuck with it to get to my current level, and the real "woah" factor is my art took a gigantic leap in quality when I took a 5 month break and devoted myself to just LOOK at art. My mind seemed to have subconsciously studied every pic. But I can't help but wonder if my art is like this now, what would it be like if I weren't lazy for those 3 or so years?

What I'm trying to say is you're a young artist and try not to make the mistakes I did. If you find yourself not liking your art at a time just take a short break, but don't just quit for a long ass time. For you to be this good after only a few years shows that you have potential to be terrific. Only reason I'm saying this stuff to you even when you didn't mention anything is cause you say you're not sure if you're serious about art and you had started in your teens. If I remember anything about my teens it's that I got into things quick, and also out of them quick. It's your choice but I think you should stick to art as you could blow all of our minds someday, someday soon.

Sorry about that, I kinda get passionate when I see a starting out artist. I guess I am because other people showed me equal passion.

Keep at the art, kid. If it helps, I was drawing anime and whatnot in high school, but I just sucked it up and did what was asked of me in art class, and I'm better for it. In college I'm ahead because I've already learned the basics.

Duueesss, I seriously don't kno whow to resond to complements so well @~~~@ Crits and insults, sure, but complements are hard!

But I know what you mean, there's been points I've jsut stopped drawing cetain styles, idk art block or just it doesn't work for my fandom, and when I come back it it I can never draw it the same but sometimes it jsut seems automatically improved from idk maybe the other things I've been doing otherwise.
But, if you say that, I promise not to give up… because after all right now I've got nothing else to amount to than to the hope of cartooning iamopop.
I never liked the art part of it at first, I do now, but it's always mainly been about the feedback, the creating chracters and developing them, and usign art as the easiest means to tell a story really…

Once I get my 'pay check' cugh allowance, I'll check out that book then
