Well since there is no topic about it, let's start one. S-CRY-ed is a very intriguing and fun show. It's one of my favorites. It's heavily under-rated though…what a shame. So have any of you seen it, or are watching it?

Saw it quite a while ago. It remains among my favorites, though, particularly in terms of the ending. It's quite simply one of the best final battles/endings to an anime series that I've seen. It also helps that Straight Cougar is badass beyond all possible description.
My only qualm is that the English version came out kinda weak. Most of the voices weren't too bad (and heck, Crispin Freeman as Cougar was PERFECT), but they really messed up on Ryuhou, and one bad egg more or less spoiled the whole bunch.

**I agree that Ryuhou should have been deeper, but his english voice doesn't particulary bother me that much. The voice I hated was the one they gave to the watermelon dude at HOLY, have yet to learn his name yet though. But after last week's episode, he sounds decent…sort of.

SCRYed is one of my favorites. My favorite character was Tachibana Asuka, even though he was more of a secondary character. I haven't heard the english voices yet…I do plan on buying the dvds soon though.

If you've watched the Digimon dub, Tachibana's voice actor is the same one who does Henry in Digimon Tamers

I've been kind of watching it on Adult Swim. It's alright so far, but I'm not particularly grabbed, though I am gaining interest. The concept seems to be highly similar to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, though. (stands = alters)
So far I'm most interested in that one guy's power to turn scripts into reality.

When I first saw this show the first thing that came to mind was "Jojo knock off" then after the second episode I was intrigued and re-evaluated my opinion. After the third episode, I was hooked. Now it's one of my favorites, great stuff.
(P.S. Kazuma and Cougar rock)
-
I just saw last night's episode, and I'm slightly creeped out how some of my favorite characters in series happen to be voiced by Michael McConnohie, one of my favorite voice actors:
Unkei (s-CRY-ed)
Schwartzwald (Big O)
Manzou the Saw (Champloo)
Detective Ikari (Paranoia Agent)
CAPTAIN GORDON, DEFENDER OF EARTH (Disgaea) -
Yeah, Michael McConnohie is feggin' incredible. His performance in Paranoia Agent should win him SOMETHING.
As for Scryed, I like it quite a bit. At first it just seemed OK, but as the story has picked up, I've liked it more and more. Straight Cougar is a GREAT character who steals the show every time he comes on screen, and the VA cast encompasses some of the greats, including the vocal king, Steve Blum. To be honest, Blum seemed off his game in the beginning; I think he felt akward doing a gentle young man voice for non-Alter Kazuma. However, lately, he's seemed to have found the character, and his performance as Kazuma is quickly reaching his usual splendiforous abilities.

Scryed is a pretty good anime. My favorite characters so far are Tachibana and Cougar.

Whys it called SCryed ? i hear u could only know if u read the manga
-
Maybe someone named 'S' cried when they saw the manga's messy art.
….I dunno.
Anyway, I saw it way back when the first episode was subbed, and dubbed it a Jojo/X-Men knockoff (when I knew very little about Jojo anyway). I saw that one "clip" episode though, and it seemed pretty interesting. I'm going to try the manga, because I suck with catching the show. The art isn't really that bad.
-
I watch a few episodes of this, it's a little boring, but it's better than Inu-yasha. I love Unkei with his "Mad Script" alter power. Though it seems that the VA who did Lupin's voice in Lupin the Third is getting alot of work in this series since I heard him voice 3-4 different chracters in last night's episode.
-
I really, really like the way this anime begins and the concept, but as soon as the second season starts and the main bad guy appears, it started to go downhill. Fast. For me, it was one hell of an awful way to end the series. But, that's just me, and I liked the concept a lot.

The manga has its good points, but it doesn't follow the anime very closely. My problem with the manga is that it changes the personalities of some of the characters.
The manga supposedely came after the anime though, so it's more of an "alternate" story I guess (if that's a good way to put it).
As for the ending of Scryed…I personally loved it. The ending left me very satisfied.
-
I love how it has a Suikoden III-esque feel to it.
SPOILERS! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
The ending where all the heroes (Kazuma, Scherise, Mimori, Ryuhou, Cougar, and Tachibana) gather reminds me of Suikoden III, what with Zexen, Grassland, and Harmonia banding together to fight a common enemy (Luc = Mujo in the sense that they're the ringleaders). And I wouldn't have it any other way.
-
Yeah, I've been watching it. My favorite anime on AS at the moment. My favorite character is Kazuma and Tachibana.
But Kazuma is my favorite.
-
I Do like S-CRY-ed and enjoy watching it on Adult Swim I still think of it as an Jojo knockoff but an good Jojo knockoff, oh ya Cougar Rules.
-
S-CRY-ed is awesome. I love watching it. I've been watching it on AS since it started. Kazuma is by far the best, so bad ass and cool. Snappy dresser as well. Great series, can't wait to see how it progresses.
The 2nd Shell Bullet is awesome.
-
sorry for bumping this but I started watching the show where Kazuma and Ryohou start fighting then go into the other world or something. That was episode 12 right?
I am now on episode 20 waiting for 21 to air tonight.
I love this show, its so awesome. I for one havent seen jojo so I found it somewhat original. Its just plain out cool. I also love the theme reckless fire.
The thing that makes it even awesomer is that steve blum is kazuma.
Also who is cougar?
Is he the guy with the orange hair…
I really havent memorized all the names yet so sorry ;-;
I have somewhat of an idea what happened do to that like little flashback episode at like 19 or 20, but what happens before the big ryuhou vs kazuma fight where they go to the other side.
ps . its a 26 episode series right...

I just started watching the series like 10 episodes ago so I really havent memorized all the names.

Cougar is the guy with the orange hair, and he's voiced by Crispin Freeman. I personally prefer the japanese voices to the dub voices, not that I don't like the dub, but the sub voices are just 100% perfect for every character.
Kazuma and Ryuhou fight and go into the other side which causes massive chaos to the Lost Ground is in episode 13, that starts the second half of the series. I'm not sure, if you could honestly get it by missing a few episodes…you might have a basic understanding, but when you see the first few episodes you'll be like "Oh! That makes sense!" a lot.
But yeah, it's a cool show.
-
cougar wasnt he his brother or something… i watched this show around christmas in the dub :S before i even knew it was ogm
-
Cougar isn't Kazuma's brother in a genetic sense, they just go way back, and at one time were really close. Kazuma refers to Cougar as a brother for the same reason that, for example, the Franky Family refers to Franky as such. It's a term of respect/endearment (in a manly sort of way).
-
Was it made clear whether Cougar died at the end?

Was it made clear whether Cougar died at the end?
All speculation, which sucks. Cougar was by far the greatest character.
-
I thought I heard somewhere that he lived in the manga. But yeah he is the coolest character.
-

definitely. him and the watermelon guy. everybody else was… well, already seen in another anime. (not that i didn't like scryed, it was just too unoriginal for me)
-
Unkei was awesome.

I actually think he died even sooner in the manga.
-

…..................................
HE DIES?!
USE SPOILER TAGS!!!
gar.
Also the manga came second right. This was one of the cases that the manga came after the anime.
-
I read that in the manga…
! The watermelon guy (I forget his name too, go figure) executes Cougar for helping Kazuma and Ryuhou. Watermelon guy then proceeds to commit suicide.
-

I'm pretty sure that's how it is. I can't find the exact release date for the manga (both the anime and manga are listed as 2001 though). However, several sites (like animenewsnetwork, wikipedia, etc.) say the manga is an "adaptation" of the anime. So yeah, I think the manga came after (unless they were going at the same time or something).
-
I could have sworn it came first…but who cares? I enjoy both.
-
Yeah, I could never find out for sure, but ever since Scryed was first fansubbed, people had been telling me the manga was second.
There's a possibility that they both ran simultaneously. That would definitely explain some of the big differences (maybe the people doing the anime and manga only had the basic plot and characters to go on, so they did their own interpretation of things). But that's just something I came up with, so I doubt it's true.

But if you look, on the anime in the ending credits it was written by the same guy who wrote the story for the manga (not drew it though).
And this isn't "Based on the story by: "
So…I really have no clue.

Yeah, I just checked. You're right.
The screenplay of the anime was written by the guy who wrote the manga.
So, I guess it doesn't really matter which one came first, it seems like he just wanted to make two different versions of the story I guess.
Or maybe he had more control over the manga version, so he did it more how he wanted to?
-
What!
! Cougar dies in the manga? How not cool is that, he was my favorite character out of the whole series.
-
I'm glad the anime took a different route with Cougar. If they were to do a sequel with him in it, it would be very possible
-

I find that funny, because I've seen many places online that HATE HATE HATE the manga, but they like the anime. They said stuff like "How the anime staff was able to make a good story from this piece of garbage is beyond me"
I just find it funny that the same guy wrote both. Hahaha.

Ha, yeah. People who bash stuff like crazy don't usually have backup for it. Anyways, I've read the manga to Volume 4. I heard it ends in Volume 5, but it's not scanlated yet, ja?
-
About Urizane, I read somewhere that he was drastically different in the manga. It said that he was highly insane and he killed Cougar for treason. Also, what were really his powers. All I know is that he uses watermelons. I really like to know what he really does because I'm usually quick on the up-take but I just can't seem to understand his powers. Any help?
-

I'm sure it is.

Oh man I just watched episode 22 last night
! RIP cougar and sherayce
-

I only skimmed through the volume at a store (still don't have it), but yeah, he seems a lot different. I'm pretty sure that's what happened, but I might have skipped some pages.
As for his powers, I dunno.
-
Didn't respond in this thread before, but I did see the series during its first run (so its a bit sketchy). While I couldn't stand the whole Kazuma/Ryuho stuff (yeesh, why couldn't they end the series with ep. 24…maybe 25 with the "rebuilding", but I didn't even care anymore about their stupid feud than to be squashed with another episode of it), I did like a lot of the side characters a bit more. (Cougar, the guy with "Mad Script"...also like Sherrice and wished they used the water girl better) And the alters...yeah, can't say whether or not they are "Stand" ripoffs (even though I've never read JoJo), but I do like many of the weirder powers. (though I still don't get Urizane and the watermelons :p)
-
-
I'm sure it is.

Right, then provide some validation please. I've searched for it, but could not find it.

Just go look somewhere. There are a lot of people I know who have read it, in english. It's out. Check online, I've seen it before too, or stores.
