Tales of Graces

Tales of Graces is set to be the 12th "Mothership" title in the Tales series, exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.The story goes as follows is the main character Asbel Lhant a son of a an 18-year-old knight from the Lhant Territory in the country of Wendol who takes over the role of Frontier Lord from his deceased father. That's the jest of it any ways. The release date for it in Japan is December 10, 2009 and no news on US release.

Well the game looks like a good Tales game with a lot of drama in it. The release date in Japan looks like a stupid move on Namco Tales Studio. But I'm just hoping for a release date for the states.

My first Tales game was Eternia, which I played as Tales of Destiny II on the PS1, around 2001 or 2002. I liked it so much that I tracked down Tales of Destiny on the PS1 (90% awful) and Tales of Phantasia on a SNES emulator (100% awesome).

Tales of Graces looks pretty sweet. Too bad I don't have a Wii. I'll be all over the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia if the United States gets it, though.

Being from Europe, Tales of Symphonia was naturally my first Tales game.

… I preordered this already a few months ago because I don't trust Namco to bring this to Europe at all and I really can't wait to play it.

It's too bad that I'm in a crucial "get satisfying grades or be forced to stop with this major" phase of finals so for me it's a really bad thing that this game is released right in the middle of it...

Thank you Cinder for bringing up the opening. It was a really good animation and the song was good. It seems like Richard is an enemy for bit from the opening. So I can't wait to play it. From what I saw, it seems have a great amount of drama in it then the other openings for the series.

Animation's not as awesome as one would hope(Symphonia still has the best-directed Tales OP), but the song is freaking LOVELY.

A Zenigame is anxious for this game, oh yes.

It's a very nice song indeed. I can at lest know that will come over since a mother ship title. As for others such as Rebirth, I think it was for it being 2D. But I can still hope to those come out.

Same here. Tales of Destiny 2 fucking rocked my socks off. I've played Phantasia on the GBA, and yes, it's really awesome. But is Tales of Destiny really that awful? I still haven't played that game; going to play it after I wrap up Suikoden 1 & 2. :ninja:

It's not bad at all, just dated. And it doesn't help that Namco halfassed the localization.

The PS2 remake is better in every way, though.

I think it depends on which on you plan on playing. The PS1 game is quite less liked compared with its PS2 Director's cut released. The PS2 had a lot more things and more explanation on the story. The PS2 version I think has an extra game that follows one of the main characters Leon.

Basically, you go through the game from his perspective, and the path itself a bit shorter. (for obvious story reasons)

This is true. The PS1 version of Destiny is awful, and has a bad translation on top of the sluggish gameplay. The PS2 version is the stuff of my dreams, but there is no chance it's coming stateside.

Amusingly, I own imported copies of the real ToD2 and of the PS1 version of Tales of Phantasia. I've played ToD2 on my swap-magicked PS2 and the PS1 Phantasia using a PS1 emulator and a translation patch. Way better than the SNES or GBA versions. I'm still waiting on the tales-cless translation of ToD2 to come out, though. I've only played it untranslated for about an hour or so.

Phantasia is probably one of my favorite Tales games. It's not as combo oriented or difficult(minus a few spikes or cheap bosses later on), but it's classic. The music is also pretty good.

I wanted to play the remakes, and the other games that have a similar flair to this but unfortunately Namco is afraid to release them here for some stupid reason. I lost interest in the 3D games after Symphonia (did not enjoy it much because of the really stiff cel shaded style the games use).

Very neat. I can't wait to play the kid Asbel. I like the skits are done in this one, but I still like the Symphonia team skit faces.

That's good to hear Hiroy. I hope they could release it on the Wii Chanel or other chanels for downloading. I don't have a PSP.

Phantasia's wonderful, and definitely worth playing. It's slower than the post-Eternia games, and the multiplayer isn't very good, but the storyline and characters are wonderful and all of the Tales systems are rock-solid, if a little archaic. Symphonia is actually a prequel to Phantasia, so Symphonia fans can have fun looking for connections.

I don't own a Wii, so I can't get into Graces just yet. I'm more interested in trying to import the Destiny director's cut and wait for a stateside release for Vesperia.

The GBA version isn't really that good. The sound's terrible and the translation is bland with a couple really horrible errors to it.

Well I know there was PS1 and PSP remakes. But they are only in Japan. Namco hates America.

I imported a copy of the PS1 The Best version of ToP, ripped imagefiles from it, applied throughhim's translation patch, and then played it on a PS1 emulator. Totally legal. And totally awesome. The GBA version, which I've beaten to completion because I'm a masochist, is much, much worse than the SNES or PS1 versions. Not recommended unless it's your only option.

So I preordered the game a while back.

And it came out on the 10th.

But my copy doesn't arrive until the fucking 31st. >_<

But yeah, I just started it, and the overall presentation is pretty good. I'm liking the little touches like holding Z to see the next destination, and chibi-Asbel's antics are amusing.

The battle system, though… takes some getting used to. As in, I'm still getting used to it. But the monkeys claim that it's super in-depth and awesome, so I have hope that it'll be at least somewhat as good as they claim.

Then again, I beat Abyss literally a halfhour before starting Graces, so my view is more than a bit skewed.

Oh yeah. Apparently, the preorder bonus DVD comes with Vesperia costumes, which I did not know. And the OP single comes with a freaking BoA costume.

Makes me glad I have both. o/

That's great. I'm hoping that it will come out in the states. That's the only way I ever play Tales of games. So far from what I saw, it looks like a good story and the battle system is good as ever. Lack of costumes though…..

I was able to play it a little during the holidays. Agreed, I like the Z for next destination. There are times when poor Asbel feels so lost he doesn't know what to do next…

I definitely do like the game and wish I could continue playing it. The next time would be... possibly the break in the middle of February. My efforts to steal my sister's wii AND ps3 (in prep for FF13!) are not working. The place where I stopped was shortly after finding Richard again and leaving the cave after the time skip.

Many Tales Of games get this treatment. It happened with Symphonia, but the United States never got the PS2 director's cut.

The only reason why Symphoina came was that Nintendo had to pay Namco to bring their own game over to the states. Oh well, it thanks to Nintendo that we are getting more Tales games from Symphonia selling well.

I've read that since the translation was done on Nintendo's side, there may have been complications to have it given to Sony. Or something like that. I don't know if this is true. Because then you can ask, "Why didn't we get an english version of the PS2 Destiny if they already localized the PSX one?" Popularity, perhaps? And then there's that thing that Yuudi pointed out.

The thing with Vesperia is that they got a whole new party member and added a ton of things (ie. new artes, new ougi, an abundance of new costumes, Flynn joins more, voiced everything, story addition to tie-in with movie) in comparison with Symphonia. When you play the 360 version and reach the end, maybe you won't feel as satisfied because you realize that there's an even more complete version out there. Or maybe it's just the existence of a new party member that creates that impact…

Take a look at some stuff the hackers dug out, and you'll find out that traces of Patty and the new artes were found in the 360 version. Not to mention - Namco says that the pirate costume you examine in a room has no relation to Patty even though the faded name was stated to start with "Pa". Now hackers are saying that there was supposed to be another playable character in Graces.

Thank you Cinder for more of a explanation then I gave out. I really hope there's not another remake of Graces with a new character and newer plot. I would like them to remake the old games and bring them over to the states. I would really like it if they brought over the PSP remakes of the games.
