One Piece 57 to set publishing record in Japan with 3 million first prints
Internationally popular Japanese manga One Piece, by artist Eiichiro Oda, will be setting Japanese publishing records, surpassing even Harry Potter, with the release of Volume 57 on March 4th.
According to One Piece’s publisher, Shueisha, three million copies of Volume 57 will go on sale in its first run. One Piece Volume 56 had set a Japanese publishing record for the most first prints of a comic book in November of 2009, when 2.63 million copies were released.
One Piece Color Walk 4
Also being put on sale on March 4th is One Piece Color Walk 4 – Eagle, a collection of more than sixty colored illustrations by Eiichiro Oda, reportedly relating to One Piece Volumes 31 to 41. The last Color Walk was released in January of 2006.

Pretty awesome. Oda collected all the dumbass questions/comments and collected them here. Just when I thought we were off to a miserable SBS for an awesome volume he says at the bottom that he's given up on this page and the real SBS will start on the next SBS page

Reader comments how they wish they could be like Luffy ad eat and eat but never get fat. Oda says for someone that moves around as much as Luffy does it'd actually be hard for him to even get fat.
Someone asks why Oda doesn't use 'kill' or 'crush' and only 'take down' wen the Strawhats talk about an enemy and they ask in a very kind way. Oda explains that back when the serialization began, he got a call from an old lady (possibly relative but isn't entirely clear) from his hometown in Kumamoto and she told him, "It's not good use the words 'kill someone'." He always thought it was a given that Luffy and gang wouldn't use it but didn't think it could be helped for villains, however, as his friends or aquaintances died in real life, he came to be an adult that thought the meaning of the word was really much worse. He'll use it for gags or reeeeeeally bad enemies but he does so thinking it's a really bad word. He doesn't want anyone immitating that.
Someone asks if Urouge's weapon is a pencil. That or a chocobat (chocolate stick candy). Oda says, "Right, it's a pencil. But was there was no eraser that could erase its writing that being a a problem did he set out to sea in order to find an eraser that could? Is the lead 2B?" Yes, he asks this as a question.

A reader asks Oda's daily schedule. There is no way I can express how funny this is without scanlating but I have literally no extra time (today is graduation!!!!) but I'll do my best to estimate his pie-grahish clock:

Someone noticed Hannyabal's strawberry underwear and asked what other crazy underwear he has. Oda drew his collection:

elephant (also symbol for…)Someone asks if Inazuma's glasses are 3D glasses. Oda didn't seem to have thought about it but he guesses they are. He thinks it's crazy cuz you'd see all sorts of things jumping out at you (despite us perceiving things in depth) for example, Wanze's eyes and...oh, those really ARE jumping out.

Reader asks if he met Hancock whether she would like him or not like Hannyabal. Oda calls Hannyabal out.
Reader asks if base for Admirals are all who we thought they were. He says yes. He wanted to use Bunta's characteristic crewcut from Battle Without Honor or Humanity but he thinks it was hard to see under the hat. He says people who do't know them should just realize that they're cool old guys.
Reader noticed Bentham turned into Pandaman and asks if he met him. Oda confirms (seems to be joking) and wonders when he could have met him.

interesting question. Someone asks why there are some people (Hannyabal, Oars) who grow horns. Oda says to think of it as an individual chracteristic. He's interested in drawing people with even more interesting faces.

I was just thinking about this and was hoping he'd bring it up someday.
Someone said they were talking with a friend and noticed that HE (ie. excluding games, readers etc.) only calls Luffy and co. the 'Straw Hat Gang' and NOT the Straw Hat Pirate Crew. He says he doesn't mind what other call it but it's his policy to call them the gang.
(I struggled with that when updating my site and ultimately went with crew because it fit the series but if he feels so strongly about it, consider that shit changed ASAP)
A reader says he has a mushroom growing out of his body and wonders if he could get it taken out at the island of women. He asks if Oda has one too. Oda says it's a penis. He apologizes for using such a rude term and decides to censor himself calling it a PE_NIS

Oooooh! I dunno if you guys knew this already but there's a special note on the table of contents.
Because the number of pages in the chapters are short, there are 11 chapters in this volume (ending with 562). Exactly one year ago Oda said there wouldn't be any volumes with more than 10 chapters because of the price hike, and sure enough, because each chapter is shorter, the overall thickness is the same as usual and the price hasn't been hiked.

I wonder if maybe, just maybe, Oda did that to pack these chapters in.

Yeah, I suspected Oda did shorter chapters to as to have the volume end the way he wanted to. It's a nice idea, although I have to one how many more volume it'll last.

That was funny hearing Inazuma has 3-D glasses now. I guess being able to make things pop out with scissors gave him/her a new leash on life.

There's mention of diarrhea but I have no idea how anyone could confuse that for anyone other than Oda.
I originally wrote, "…reader asks his daily schedule...", without any mention of Magellan and Oda is the one being asked. Not to mention I thought the 'WORKS ON DRAFTS' part would set any confusement straight.

Although we can now consider them 3D glasses, it doesn't seem that move was ever intentional on Oda's part from his reaction. Japan, like most of the commercial world, is experiencing a 3D boom because of Jame's Cameron's Smurf reboot but the character came out well before that craze hit.
And regarding the pencil weapon.
Consider it a joke.
Unless Oda's being coy saying there was something it couldn't 'erase' and we see he killed someone with it or some shit.
He even answered in the form of a question.
Although I will admit he could make it so if he wanted. But don't hold your breath.

I KNOW Oda said no more long volumes…and 11 chapters is usually 232 pages (at 19 page chapters it's actually 209 pages of manga).
However...this week's chapter would be the PERFECT ending for a volume.
I think Oda should consider doing one very long volume (14 chapters - 232 pages of manga given the chapter length). Toriyama did this with DB volumes 41 and 42 and Kishi did it with Naruto volume 43.
I just think...this one time....an exception to his rule should be taken. I mean, volume 58 would be downright amazing if he did that, making the extra money (it can't be THAT much can it?) negligable.

A total not seen since Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which had only cough 2,900,000. But considering the part in the story that OP is at at the moment volume 57's is likely to be sold out in no time at all! Actually as I'm writing this I'm starting to worry if I can actually still get me a copy. Will I have to result to auction for a copy to read?!?! Well, let us hope not! dashes to the store. -

In my opinion, what fucked up One piece popularity was the overmentioned 4kids dub of the anime. They make OP look silly, childish, stupid, without sense, etc. I actually watched episodes in the past, and i was very surprised that ( i e ) when luffy beats Arlong, they inmediately are shown in the ship going to loguetown. All the symbolism was cutted off, specially something i consider very important, at least, in that arc: Bellemere's Speech to nami and nojiko. And this is just 1 example.Here in my country, chile, every kid/teen is interested in shows like: Naruto or Bakugan. Seriously: WTF??
About Bleach, I think it's so popular cause it's pretty much fanservice/ teenservice/ classic shonen formula: Epic SWORD clashes, badass transformations, Really cute girls, etc. But fillers are really annoying, so the story doesn't progress, at least in the anime…You answered yourself to your questions though... Pretty bad for many people who will probably never see or read One Piece: The best selled manga in history as of 2009.

When I watched the cartoon version of One Piece it is very different than reading the Manga. I am glad I started out reading One Piece, if I had watched the cartoon first I might not have become a huge fan.
