I found this on One Manga. I really hope this is a new series for the shaman king universe love the original and hope i like this second one
Shaman King: Flowers
-
-
Interesting….
we need to wait a little more.
But the title is weird...Flowers? -
The mangaka sure is a one-trick pony.
-
Shaman King was terrible, but I still kind of liked it. Looking forward to whatever this is.
-
It's just one chapter so far and part of the final Kanzenbang encyclopedia. Thing is that this is all there is so far…and from what I've seen, it just seems like more of the same. (just replace Ren with Men and add in yet another Anna...)
-
Hmm, I guess this could be good. The original Shaman King (from what I've read so far) isn't terrible, but it's not great either. Unfortunately, it seems like Takei is already making the mistake of using character clones. Men is just a clone of Ren, Anna is a clone of…well, Anna (honestly, they even have the same name) and Hana is just an angry tough guy version of Yoh. That being said, I guess it's still nice to see the old characters in action again and I'm willing to give this series a shot to see if it gets better.

here's the next chapter.

Well everything else he's tried has gotten cancelled immediately, so… and the FIRST time he went back to the series was just to finish it out with the proper ending, since he was cancelled just a couple months prematurely before he was done. That comeback I won't hold against him.

It's almost as if this guy kinda sucks as manga-ka, or something.
Actually, the first five chapters of this new series (or six, since there's a chapter 0) are out on Mangahere. I'm reading through it, and so far, eh.

Nah it ended pretty terribly. Not even PRINCESS HAO was the kicker, everything from the X-laws onwards is when it hit the big stinker.
Which is a shame since Shaman King had an excellent start and one of the most unique aesthetics and fashion style in Shonen Jump at the time. It felt very much its own, which was to its advantage. All of that native american stuff, guilty enjoyed or not, was pretty fun to look at and executed in a pretty fun way. I haven't read it in years but I remember it starting pretty well!
It's just.. The author is just…
God he's unfortunate
I think the most awkawrd thing was in Ultimo where the teenage boy set Ultimo down on his bed in some really awkwardly sexual way (like Ultimo is all kya~ing expression) and they get walked in on by a girl
And the joke is that it looks really gay I guess
But. . . But that's
That's Shaman King
That's like Shaman King in a nutshell
-
I don't mind Flowers, but god I hate Hana himself. He's fairly annoying running around doing whatever really. I'll probably keep reading this cause I like the setting and I look forward to the character designs and stuff.
-

Ha ha, yeah. I've finished the series since then (man, it's funny reading my old posts) and I'd say everything from volume 16 onwards (and maybe sooner) pretty much sucks. I think the biggest problem was that the story lost focus and there was no real logic to the sequence of events that occurred.

"HA HA HA! You have an eyepatch! This article that implies a serious injury and handicap is hilarious for some reason!"
-
Sorry nobodyman, I feel so bad that like
I didn't notice your post was from 2009
I guess I didn't notice because it sounded so reasonable and usually our older posts anywhere come off a lot worse
But yes this is Garbage with a capital G

LOL, it's all right. Honestly, I'm flattered you thought it was reasonable though. I always hate reading my old posts. I always think, "God! Did I really say that?!" I guess everyone is their own worst critic.

I don't understand how/when this mangaka got so.. I don't even know how to say it.. boring? cluttered?
Shaman King 2/3rds of the way was very entertaining. I find it sad that he couldn't keep that feeling all the way through.
Especially since I enjoyed everything about Choco Love's character.
And didn't stan lee write Ultimo?
-
And didn't stan lee write Ultimo?
From what I understand, he mainly worked on the concept.
Why he chose to work with Takei of all people, I'll never know.
-
I really liked the author's art style when he started Shaman King, I don't mind how he draws now but I like his old art style better.
Especially since I enjoyed everything about Choco Love's character.
Didn't he have like a really stupid flashback? I remember I was like "The fuck is this?!?". Or im confusing him with someone else?

Yeah
I can't imagine Stan Lee writing "And then the feminine boy's eyes sparkle as he presses his chest against the manly boy protagonist and asks him to be his one true Partner"

Choco love is the black kid whose parents were killed on the day of Christmas, and begins to hate people. With no family to turn to he becomes a thug. Then he meets a hobo shaman who believes that laughter is the best medicine and can solve all problems, and tries to cheer him up. Choco eventually warms up to him and becomes his shaman apprentice.
! Then the gang he was a part of wonders where he's been and then kill the old guy. ;_;
!
! this story kind of reminds of Nico Robin now that I think about it.Granted, you may have still thought it was stupid. but that's your opinion.
It starts here:

Wow.. sorry for linking that horrible translation. Dear god, they didn't even try to make the jokes readable.
-

That's kinda funny. I hated pretty much everything about Choco Love. Really insulting to watch. But eh, I more or less expect that sort of stuff now in anime. I should be over it…but god I hated it so much lol. Flashback was probably the only good thing. And the cheetah spirit.
-

You know, I didn't realize how heavy black face oriented Choco Love's face was until I just reread his past on manga share. Apparently viz shrunk his lips. lol
Viz made his jokes work IMO, (which apparently is a hard task?).
But yeah, maybe the fact that his Shaman spirit was a cheetah named Mic Jaguar boosts his coolness in my eyes…
There were times where I wish Takei didn't have him interrupt conversation so much, but I didn't find him any more/less annoying than Usopp when he first joined.

I use to love Shaman King a whole bunch as it introduced some concepts I found very neat at the time, and had awesome set of character designs. But then down the road the battles themselves started to feel lifeless. I don't know if it was just the terrible as shit animation, but I got nothing out of a couple of dudes riding on these huge titans charging at one another(it felt like a poorly done mecha series for me). It was honestly better when it was just enchanting common objects or weapons with souls. This is all based off foggy memory and a few episodes I've seen of the final season I saw on TV.
Aside from that, I remember playing the GBA game.
-
I agree with Cyclone, even when I was 12 years old watching the SK anime I thought Choco was a terrible little stereotype.
-
Stuff about Choco
Oh I remember now, its a good flashback, but what happened then is that we have a character here that is called Choco Love and well he is a bit of a stereotype so when I reached the first part flashback I was like "really?" it didn't sit good with me at all, but the rest was good.
But that was years ago so maybe if reread it again I should have a diferent oppinion on this…...maybe.

The manga was okay, until certain stuff put me off, but i still read it to the end. Like the origins of the X-Law's Archangels. Here i thought they were heavenly divine angels instead they turn out to be stupid spirits of former cars or w.e the hell kit was.
I'm enjoying SK Flowers. I like young Hana, he amuses me.
-
Choco Love. Aside from having the whole thing about the way he looks. He was Blind for a while and he wound up in prison in the epilogue…I know he was supposed to come from a crappy place but still...Really you reach enlightenment of some sort and you can't not stay out of jail? Ugh. I guess it sorta evened out since pretty much everyone else became bums. Ren and Lyserg are probably the only others that didn't become hippies.
-

Okay, now I'm angry.
-
Okay, now I'm angry.
You didn't see that before? The end was him getting released and he was this giant dude…lol.

Nah.. Not gonna lie, I was hyped when I heard about the new releases, then I heard that they were starting with Lyserg and the X-Law's, and my interest dropped immediately.
That has to be the most boring group ever.

was it the one where you went around capturing spirits and then used them in shaman fights…cause i played that one too :ninja:
as a whole i liked SK, it could use some editing in some parts but i enjoyed the characters a lot and Takei has to be one of my favorite manga artist, his character design and background aesthetic were entertaining and easy to follow but very detailed, it made for some rly gorgeous panels. Still I couldn't get into that thing he was doing with Stan Lee or Jumbor the former seemed cliche and kinda shota-esque the latter just wasn't that interesting (drill fights =/). I'm mostly reading Flowers because of SK but I'm not sure if i like the way it's shaping up all ready.

If I recall correctly. That bit didn't last too long. But yeah I'd probably have been less than enthused too if I heard that. Lyserg is very not interesting.
-
Shaman King… Was a shame. Yoh was a cool protagonist, Manta was a nice sidekick, Amidamaru was interesting and cool in a more shounen way, Anna could have been developed incredibly, Ryo, Ren, Horo-horo and Chocolove were fun, Lyserg was... there, Faust was temible and pittyable at the same time and could have worked in a redemption, the oversoul system was innovative, the world set up that past shaman kings were Jesus and Budah was mindblowing and had a lot of potential.
Then comes Hao, and the XLaws, and the skiped fights, and the weird convoluted tournament, and the abandoning of everything the tournament stood for, and the reviving, and the set up of the Gandara without using them, and the fact that Takei didn't expand in the past 12-19 shaman kings thing (probably for the best, as Muhammad was the best Shaman King candidate for the 500ac), and the fact that the afterlife was INCREDIBLY BORING, and Aliens, and the pedophilic undertones of X-Laws (that now that I think about it, could have been a comentary on catolicysm protection of priests accused of pedastry), and Hao having the depth of a moist towel, and the incest undertones, and how everyone was redeemed out camera, and how Furyuku and Reiryuku could spell everyting in a battle, how characters didn't grow organicly, but in weird growth booms, and how the final battle was without the spirits that they had bonded for 300 chapters but the very escenses of the earth vs a fraction of the power of GOD inside GOD, and how Hao was defeated by making his mom slap him, and how that could have been acomplished a lot earlier had Anna chaneled Matamune or the year 1000 Asakuras.
Takei crashed and burned Shaman King.
-
how Hao was defeated by making his mom slap him
Oh god what?
Funny enough, as lame as that is, it comes full circle into stupid awesome. Did he cry like a bitch? Maybe I should reread it.
But you hit the nail on the head MD, but a lot of the powerups came out of left field. LOL Here's a stick that lets you channel your furyoku better that wasn't mentioned until now for some reason.
-
Maxterdexters post =truth.
I personally stopped reading at the "Icemen" fight; the story had just ground to a complete halt, and it was an entire volume of Team Yoh showing off their powerups in turn- without using them, mind you - until Yoh OHKO'd the entire fodder team at once.
Somehow, it made me lose interest. -

Yeah the slap lol. I posted those few pages, I think in the Magi thread a few days ago. It's funny but for some reason mangahere didn't have anything like after 200 something even though it goes to 3000 or so. So it never showed that. I think I found a full scan on reader.

Somehow, it made me lose interest.Around that point it became boring, but it became stupid when all the main characters were dead, both Sati an Jeane were dead, and were only saved because June and Faust learned the resurrection tecnique off camera.

You hear this?…
Somewhere in japan a cow is getting milked.:ninja:
-
Was Flowers still ongoing? I had only seen like 4 chapters.

Flowers already ended on 2014 (along with the magazine).
-
@Kaizou:

Oh! Was it crazy short? I'll have to see if I can find it.
-
-
@Kaizou:
It was serialized for about 3.5 years.
Time is flying by for me lol.
-
At least flowers didn't manage to fuck itself as badly as Shaman King, but why Takei keeps trying to put battle in a series when it's clearly not what he wants to do?
-
Last time I read Flowers the boy was in hell/the underworld with this dead soldier who was apparently going to be his new ghost. Did that actually finish?
-
It stoped around that, Hao or the capitalist shaman king interrupted.
-
Well, fuck. I was enjoying that. Think he'll take up where he left off?
-
Yes hopefully Sati and Grandhara will show up. I wanna find out if the Iron Maiden truly dead.
-
daaam…i've been meaning to catch up with this, how time flies...
