2003 was mostly good until the network mandated they go to the future.
It did have some pacing issues when they did filler though and weren't just taking directly from the mirage comics.

Why are they redoing it again? I actually enjoyed the 2012 one.

Methinks Nickelodeon doesn't want to sit on the rights for 5+ years that and the probably want to Ben 10 the hell out of it.

I've never watched Ben 10. I don't understand that reference lol.

Keep making new series of it at the expense of quality.

They want to sell a new line of toys and start packaging new dvds. You need a radical redesign every couple years to refresh the toys.
That said, there's traditionally been at least a little gap between series and its legitly been a new show for a new generation. This is them turning it into their Batman/Spiderman, perpetually in new shows no matter what the quality of the previous series was.

Ugh…Well I suppose that makes sense. But it Also sucks.
I received a few of those fancy hardcover IDW Collections for Christmas and birthday, so I've been enjoying going thru them. Just got to the CityFall arc where Shredder uses magic to brainwash Leo into joining his Foot. The best part of this? Each page of corresponding nightmare'd flashback is drawn by the artist who covered that part of the story originally (except now horrifically skewed against Splinter)
I can't recall ever seeing a visual stunt like that in comics before and it was a real impressive touch!
To be honest, as much as I enjoyed the 2012 Turtles, after that epilogue season I'm okay with it ending and start fresh. Especially after that (intended) finale with the world being all Mad-Max. Actually, I think I've been kinda checked out after the really weak space half season.
When they announced the new cartoon, I was watching Andre the Black Nerd reveal the info and I thought he said that April was going to be black in this version. But it turns out it's just the voice actor. I was kinda excited to see things changed up.
Yeah, the 2012 show was fun but it had a really weak first season, and then really faltered basically from the point they went into space. Just kinda, eh. And the final season being "Tales of" was really bad, especially if e're meant to take all those stories as actual canon.
I really liked the Usagi episodes though, I wish that could be a backdoor piot to Usagi getting his own show.

But they haven't shown the character designs yet, have they?
Ewwww. Those designs are AWFUL. Splinter and April especially. Just. Eww.
Also, Raph using tonfas instead of Sais? Whut?
Im okay with them being different turtle species and April being black (she was in the original comics) but… ewww.
I like the different turtle species angle but the final designs as presented here kinda make me think Frogs. And that Splinter is really gonna take some getting used to.
The weapon thing bothers me less. I can see a big burly Raph using tonfas as a blunt pounding object as opposed to the more stabby violence the sai implies.
This looks like garbage. Making Raph extra large seems weird…Cause Ninjas and stealth...Also tonfas? Come on bruv.
In addition to agreeing with all of the above, April's spirit bat thing bothers me since that should be Casey's thing. Being a techie (which that image of her riding a floating scooter implies) is fine though. But then again, that's sort of Donatello's thing. It's kind of ironic how April technically has the most drastic resdesign yet is the one I can stand looking at the most without flinching (not that I think she looks good either).
I'm not against a version of Splinter being short and pudgy like a real rat (I think the Bay movies tried this actually), but Jesus, that face.
I dig the different turtle species concept and sort of like Donatello's backpack looking like a thick turtle shell, but aside from that, they should retitle themselves as the Punk Frogs. And what is Michelangelo using as his weapon? It looks like a nunchuck-themed paddle ball lol.
EDIT: Wait a minute, April is riding on Donatello. That kind of works.
But they haven't shown the character designs yet, have they?
I saw some designs from the summer shorts that was mislabeled as the design. Turns out she is black! I just wish she still had red hair.
I like the Ralph has a different body shape but sucks the other turtles basically the same thing.
The designs I don't really mind (too much) I only want to see how the writing works.
Yeah, I mean, that Splinter is hideous and I'm not a fan of the overall style but they can make it work if the writing staff understands the characters.
Nickelodeon provided character descriptions so let's see what we're dealing with.
Raphael, as the oldest and physically biggest brother, he is now the leader and his enthusiasm and bravado puts him front and center for most of their bizarre adventures; Leonardo, the self-professed ‘coolest’ brother possesses irreverent charm and a rebel heart; Donatello, an unflappable mechanical genius and tech wizard whose ninja skills are second only to his coding; Michelangelo, the youngest brother, an artist and awesome skateboarder with a wild colorful, and imaginative personality; and the Turtles’ most trusted ally, April O’Neil, a street savvy native New Yorker who is always ready to join in the fun.
Raphael, as the oldest and physically biggest brother, he is now the leader
Raphael… is now the leader
Raphael … leader
WELP.
Well, you know how the themesong goes.
Splinter taught them to be ninja teens (He's a radical rat!)
Raphael leads, Donatello does machines (That's a fact, Jack!)
Leonardo is cool but crude (Gimme a break!)
Michaelangelo is a party dude (Party!)
I have no problem with them mixing around who is the leader, we've had Leo as leader and Raph as the rebellious one that resents Leo leading for 30 years, so mixing that up can be a change of pace… but "Leonardo, the self-professed ‘coolest’ brother possesses irreverent charm and a rebel heart; " is just wrong on every level.
Like, did they mix those two up in the solicit text?
Enthusiasm and bravado still sounds like traditional Raph though who is fundamentally unfit to be leader of the group.
@Mr.:
Hey guys, remember Wolverine and the X-Men?
Wolverine has been one of the defacto leaders of the X-Men for decades though, along with Cyclops and Storm. And sometime when none of them are available its Jean, or Kitty, or Emma Frost, or Xavier. The X-Men roster is ever changing and has dozens of leads, and Wolverine as THE most popular gets thrust into spotlight position more than he maybe should.
The Turtles however have always been a 4 member group with specific dynamics. The characterization has shifted a little over the years and between shows, but the core dynamics have always been the same.

Maybe Raph will start out as the leader and fail?
Then you make that an arc, not the launching pad.

I know, I meant that the show awarded leadership to the winner of the popularity olympics.

I wonder if we'll get a bit with Leo and Raphael having a fight to become leader and Raphael whooping ass like in the 2007 movie :ninja:
That's the thing. Whenever Leo and Raph fight, Raph always wins. Just Leo has the cooler head for actually, ya know, leading.
Most iterations also stage it so that Leo is the most focused and dedicated to his training and so is technically the best fighter, but Raph's willingness to get brutal usually gives him the edge.
I was wondering how exactly Leonardo would be written when he's always been defined by being the leader/most plot-important (which is why he always came across as the blandest turtle for me), but I don't that they're apparently switching Leonardo and Raphael's personalities for the most part. That's… that's just... Why?
I'm still tempted to give this three or four episodes out of sheer curiosity. I'm open to the leader position switching, especially when there's potential in tackling unique mindsets and flaws. But wow, nothing inspires confidence in this show from me yet.
Some big TMNT news. Image run of TMNT is finally going get a conclusion.

Upon reading the IDW comics, whenever Eastman writes I feel like theres this…disconnect. Like the characters don't "sound" right when he's writing them. The turtles seem almost indistinguishable from each other. Splinter has a whole other tone to his speech. Other characters dialgue doesn't flow naturally and everyone feels like they're talking just to talk. Was this always the case or am I just used to better writers handling his characters?
Laird was always the one that knew the characters better. He's the one that pushed the 2003 series to be what it was, and kept doing the Mirage comics as a passion project even at a perpetual money loss. Granted, some of the directions he eventually went in were insane, but he was always the better storyteller. Eastman meanwhile didn't really touch or think about the property for like 15 years till he was brought in for basically stunt casting on the IDW series.
(I think the main reason the Mirage comics didn't make money is because Jim Lawson was the artist for so long. I know, he was one of the key core guys in the company from early on and he stayed with them for 20 years, and he contributed uncountable amounts to the brand and stories, but his art was always super ugly Frank Miller inspired mess and only got worse by the later Mirage run. As a kid I tolerated it for the sake of the stories but I never liked it then, and I really don't like it now.)

Shame the Archie run will never do Forever War. They talked big about doing it years ago for some anniversary or another but it stalled for years and it became clear they didn't have their original notes or anything and neither artist nor writer had any idea what to do after being removed from the story for 15 or 20 years. Also judging from the couple Tales Of issues he did, Chris Allan's art skills went unused and went to crap over the years, which is a shame. I loved his stuff and he never had a style that was going to be big, but it would have been nice to see him make a career out of it and see where he eventually evolved.
Raph the leader ay?
So the rap song I first listened to in preschool wasn't wrong after all.
Heroes on the half shell, their on a mission
When there's a battle got the enemy wishin'
That they stayed at home, instead of fightin'
These ninja masters with moves like lightnin'
They were once normal but now their mutants
Splinters the teacher so they are the students
Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello
Make up the group with one other fellow,
Rapheal, he's the leader of the group
transformed from the norm by the nuclear goop
Pizzas the food thats sure to please
these ninjas are into pepperoni and cheese
T.U.R.T.L.E. POWER
Buy it on iTunes its awesome!
I started to rewatched the 1987's TMNT series, and I figure I would share my thoughts as I go through the series. I already finished Season 1 and begin Season 2 (I'm up to the 3rd episode of the Eye of Sarnoth storyline.).
I always like the first season episode even back in the days of the Family Home Entertainment vhs of TMNT, which was the main way I watch TMNT back in the day before the show begin airing on USA Cartoon Express. Season 1 had a lot amusing moments that shown off the turtles personalities as the series goes on as well the other main recurring characters. My favorite episode of the first season back in the day was "Shredded and Splintered" due to the Leo, Mikey, Raph, and Splinter fight against Bebop and Rocksteady as they try to head the Technodrome. Now days, I really like "A Things About Rats" due to some of the funny stuff between the turtles and April that happened in the episode and the turtles battle against the mousers in April's apartment.

That line always bugged me….you'd think someone would catch it before it was sent off to print and onto the film. :P
They very clearly did this themesong as a remix of the 80's opening, and were instructed after the fact to include "Rise of" in the lyrics.
The animation is fluid I guess. If the actual show keeps even a fraction of that energy and fluidity it could be interesting (It won't.) No sign of Shredder which I'm okay with since he's overplayed, maybe something that could be Krang at the end. WTF is going on with Raph's weird energy hologram power up thing.
But again, while I'm okay with Raph in the leader role… what the hell are they doing with Leo?
"Raph is ready for a fight
Leo is making a scene
Mikey has mad skills
and Donnie rocks machines"
Like, it looks like they're making Leo comic relief? Making weird faces, getting beat up, giving people wedgies? Just... I don't understand.
But hey, that Thundercats reboot sure makes this pile look better.
Kinda weird not having Leo in the leader role here, also the rest of the turtles are skinny twigs while Raph is this hulking mass of muscle is an… interesting design choice if anything.
Seeing this makes me think to myself, "Man, I should finish the 2012 Turtles series".
[They very clearly did this themesong as a remix of the 80's opening,[/quote]
…..........Again?
Strange, but I got a pop up in Google Rewards asking me if I had seen that trailer. After I said "yes", it then showed me a picture of a Scrappy Doo poster and asked if this was a good recommendation for me. <.<
The first four episodes were released and since it appears no one else is gonna do it, I'll jot down some thoughts (in no particular order):
The implication seems to be that it's not "Raph is better then Leo and thus the Leader" it's "Leo doesn't really care that much to take the Leader title and Raph just took it."
The mutating ooze being mystic plot device instead of alien science plot device is worth noting, I guess.
The Foot mooks being paper origami golems is neat.
Mikey's mystic "It's on fire now" weapon seems kind of weak between Leo's "Thinking with Portals" and Raph's "Aura Stand thing"
Don out right refusing a mystic weapon (but stealing a power crystal) really amused me.
In the four episodes, the mystic weapons don't come up enough to really justify having three bullet points on them
April works.
Splinter really doesn't work.
Overall, I liked it. Fights looked cool and it got a chuckle out of me now and again. Not amazing but not as awful as if first appeared. I'll give it a couple more episodes to see if it really grows on me.
*I don't remember what it's actually called and I'm at work so I don't want to spend more time on this then I have to.
Hold on. No Shredder?
No Shredder yet anyway.
Hold on. No Shredder?
A break from SHredder is a GOOD thing, and the one thing I'll credit the show for. I'm sure he'll be around eventually though.
(Also the ctual animation is pretty good… even i the designs are terrible.)
Just watched Rise of the TMNT and I agree with basically everything y2kyle89 said. I actually don't hate the art for this series. But knowing that I like my angles in my art similar to something like Samurai Jack, it's just preference alone holding my opinion.
continues watching Season 4 of 2012 TMNT
I hadn't had the time to give this a proper shot yet but this guy's video ensures that'll happen sooner rather than later!
Batman Vs. TMNT animated movie have been announced.
Batman/TMNT getting an Animated Movie is awesome :D
Also Rise Of The TMNT Episode The Evil League of Mutants is the best episode
The trailer for Batman vs. TMNT is out.

I never knew I needed Shredder vs Batman til just now!
