It would be hardly be accurate to say that people believe bay movies to be "good". Nobody expects that. Rather, I think people just want mindless fun.
Unfortunately in general it comes with sacrifice of the original integrity

! I never believed Splinter to be reincarnated from Yoshi, at least not in the original story. He was his pet rat, he just bonded with/learned from him. In fact as the authors pointed out, Splinter always appeared to be an unusually intelligent rat from the start. Though the lab right angle makes me think of The Secret of NIMH :P
! I know there is the "Splinter was Yoshi's pet rat" origin. But that was he was Yoshi's real pet, when Yoshi was a real ninja/martial artist, not a scientist and a lab rat. Even if Yoshi does end up being the scientist, it takes out a lot of the sincerity and affection from their relationship. If Yoshi just injects his DNA and makes Splinter a mini-clone . . . . . it goes without saying.
The more I read the description, the more I think it is based off of IDW's origin.
! Originally an experimental lab rat exposed to ninja sensory training, Splinter was injected with a DNA-infused mutagen that gave him sentience, thoughts and a soul. After an unfortunate event at the lab, Splinter and four unlikely box turtles suddenly found themselves building their new home in the sewers.
! Wasn't Splinter just a rat before receiving the injection, then was able to realize who he was?
!
Minus April being a lab tech, it sounds very similar. If the Krang are in the film series, I think it's very likely we're getting a reincarnation thing.
Also, this could be nothing at all, seeing as the rest of the origin's are from the Nick television series. Again, there's no confirmation that this is the origin for the movie, it could just be a fuck up on Lego's part as the origins were meant to be for the Lego version of the Nick cartoon.
The general audience think Micheal Bay = Good Movies.
The general audience think Michael Bay=mindless entertainment that we might as well watch since we've been doing it since the 90s and we have nothing better to do
Thing is Michael Bay CAN direct good movies. Pain and Gain was one of my favorite movies last year. He just chooses to keep doing this shit because it makes him money.
People expect the movies to have action and explosions and maybe some boobs and ass, and in those areas, sure, they deliver. No one actually expects or thinks of them as "good."
And that's what many people constitute as "good". To be served what they are expected to be served and in good quality. Michael Bay movies, if nothing else, serve action and explosions and a little bit of T&A in quality + quantity. Michael Bay movies do indeed deliver in those areas and that's what people want when they go see those movies.
Did I like Transformers 4? I thought it was a gimmicky series of commercials with explosions and I was yawning 3/4 of the way through absurdly numb to the action.

Did the rest of the audience like Transformers 4? When the credits started rolling there was a resounding round of applause and comments about how "awesome" that was and they can't wait for the next one. I don't know whether or not nationwide (worldwide?) if the "general audience" equate Michal Bay to "good movies" but I do know a lot of people equate Michael Bay to "good movies". If a lot of people equate him to bad movies too then I guess it all evens out.
As a side note I will give Transformers 4 credit for being better than Transformers 2, but it didn't really have to try much to accomplish that…
If you've actually went out opening weekend, and paid money, and have thus already seen Transformers 4, you're part of the problem. (Are we also supposed to pretend Twilight was good now?)
Can't just go "Well, other people think they're good, no matter how stupid they are… and also I saw it opening weekend based on my experience from the previous three outings."
Transformers 1, no one's fault for going to it. And 2, if you didn't read any reviews you could hope on an improvement from the first. But to have gone to 3, and then 4? What the hell.
Just because a lot of people liked the movie that does not make it a good movie. Does it? Me explaining the reaction of the crowd simply says a lot of people thought the movie was good. They enjoyed themselves. We're talking about how the general public feels about Michael Bay movies, not an objective stance about his movies.
Part of the problem? Besides the fact that I was asked to go with a friend, who loved the movie btw, I am a movie junkie. I'll admit I am "part of the problem" but there's another problem consisting of people who get annoyed at other people for seeing/doing something they don't approve of. In fear it'll encourage even worse behavior? Because going to the movie theater is now a call to which side you are on? Are you there for movies I think are bad or there for movies I think are good?
I know it's your money and all but you're just being part of the problem.
Yes, when you go to pay and see a movie you know is bad in advance, that you are unlikely to enjoy, you are in fact encouraging more of the same, and less of better quality.
If you liked the first three and then went to see the fourth, that's fine. But to dislike them? For all the reviews to say that yes, they continue to be bad? And still go?
If the first movie flopped they would have ditched that approach and then tried again with something else. Its how the industry works.
Generally with my friends if they want to see a movie I don't, I pass on going. Or we agree on a movie everyone wants to see.
I really liked 1, hated 2, was satisfied with 3, and the 4th was a disappointment so basically the series is currently 2 for 2, but before the 4th instalment came out the series had more good favor than bad for me. When they make a Transformers 5 I'll probably see it too, honestly, but I'll wait for it to come out on DVD so I can rent it on Netflix or use some other method and watch it at my leisure.
I'm not too worried about funding terrible projects as I am of wasting my time on something that ends up disappointing me.
I didn't like the first one and never saw any of the others. Once I heard the sequels were apparently worse, I never had an inkling to ever go see them.
I really liked the first one, both in theaters and once I bought it, second one I rented, third I read the book.
The thing is, a live action transformers movie is something I wanted for years, decades, since I was a little boy watching the episodes my dad taped for me. I could easily ignore the flaws.
For a series they throw at us every couple of years, I can't ignore the flaws, and that's my problem with the turtles movie, I haven't been wishing for a live action movie for years, I already have it.
Coming from a country which very much sat out the whole Transformers craze, I remember seeing the first one with my best friend because, well, giant robots, were're total nerds, ticket sold.
What followed was a decidedly laughter-devoid sit, with occasional watch checking, and a general consensus afterwards of "well…that was...passable?". Neither of us had any relationship to any characters going in, and neither had developed any going out. I particularly remember being annoyed at just how few lines Megatron had. And of course, the human characters and the comedy didn't exactly win us over. Neither of us returned for any of the sequels.

Yes but the current generation of Turtles fans don't, this is part of why they come out with new Turtles cartoons, comics, video games, and movies every so often. They're making something old into something new for a new generation with the unintended consequence of making older fans intimately familiar with the franchise upset.
How popular is Casey Jones in the Ninja Turtles franchise and if/when they make a sequel what are the odds he'll be put in it and we get another moment like this?

He's a HUGE part of the mirage comics, (as big a part of the group as April is) and as a result had a pretty substantial role in the 2003 cartoon.
But he wasn't in the 89 show all that much so he's not as iconic or well known as other characters, and never made it into the Archie comic at all..
He did have a presence in the 89 show, I think for anyone whose only TMNT experience was that cartoon, they'd still recognize him. He just never took off his mask and was kind of an idiot.
He's one of my favorite characters otherwise, though.
GOONGALA!
Yeah but not even an episode per season. Nothing compared to how major a character is normally.
I thought he appeared at least once or twice per season, but it has been a looong time.
According to the TMNT wiki he was only in 5 episodes and it lasted 7 seasons.
I think I stopped watching the show before the last 2 seasons, TBH. ;)
Last season was neat… basically an entirely different show. They changed up the lead villain and tried making it all a bit darker. Carter was dumb, as were the secondary mutations... but... they tried. It was a lead in to the 2K3 series.
Here's a TV spot from the World Cup with our first look at Splinter's face/young turtles (and clarification of NOT accidental mutation):
Looking at them as children makes them seem beautiful as adults by comparison.
For the split second we see of him, I guess Splinter looks okay. Especially in comparison to the turtles. As little turtles they look . . . . . whatever.
TV spots really do make things look better than trailers. But not an accidental mutation? Not fun, loses the whole point of their origin. Gah.
Oh and some hope for the film arose.
! "William Fichtner is not playing Shredder. He’s playing Eric Sachs, who works for Shredder, but Shredder, who will be wearing a mechanized samurai suit in the film, is an entirely different character."
! Sounds to me like Fichtner is the spokesperson, or the Mandarin of this film.
Do they fight Ghost Shredder?
Lets just watch the tvspots and ignore the rest. Not entirely sure what Donnie whimpers.Oh and some hope for the film arose.

I think he said, "Oh my God, they have guns!" And yes, the TV spots are indeed way better than the trailers. The damn things are actually starting to make me like the turtles, hideous designs not withstanding.
! Oh THANK GOD. Of course that doesn't mean that Shredder is Oroku Saki for sure, but hey, it's not the White Guy. IMDB says he's Shredder though. Where's your source?

! I still think that Eric Sachs was meant to be the white version of Saki, as his name is just way too close for it not to be intentional. If anything, we might only see a little 5-8 minute reveal of the real Shredder. Could just be a last minute change to the movie.
! Seriously, Erick=Oroku, Sachs=Saki.
Source was here. (spoilery bits)
http://screenrant.com/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-reboot-footage-preview/
! Hmmm, as you say it might be a last minute change, which would still be better than a White Shredder in my opinion. As the article said Fichtner himself told the press he was playing Shredder last year, and that's still what IMDB says, so the details are a little fickle. But I'll go with my hope and that he isn't Shredder. BECAUSE SHREDDER ISN'T SOME WHITE CEO DUDE.
! The article also says the movie has a lot of humor in it. That's good to know. But joking about how hot April is . . . . UGH. Thank you Michael Bay and Megan Fox.
Another funny moment in the TvSpot.
Also the Behind the Scenes of the movie if anyone missed it on Nick.
Some minor spoilers
that "aliens" line lmaoo…damn it I wanna see it now.
What do kids think of our original turtles?
Also, the new movie isn't exactly getting them as hyped up as they have hoped. snerk
Well, that was adorable. :D
Thanks for posting it, Satsuki.
Not sure if the promo is important, or pottentially Origin spoilers, so open at own risk.
!
What are they even doing with this movie? Is this promo meant to be important? Or is it just a bedtime story for the turtles when they're kids…
With every movie we get a new theme song, here's this movies theme.
Ugh, I knew before even clicking on the video that I'd hate the theme song. Damned curiosity…
That promo was pretty good, though.
Season 3 looking to be really interesting.
! I can't wait for Mondo Gecko and Muckman.
Dream Beavers, oversized beaver monsters,
Don't know if I want
voiced by Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger himself!) and John Kassir (the voice of the Crypt Keeper)
I really like everything about that minus the Napeoleon Dyna-Frog.. that sounds stupid.

Makes you feel any better it was pretty stupid back in the 80's.
Personally I would have gone with Atilla the Frog, not only is the pun better then bonafrog, plus Spiked ball on chain > whip.

It's a terrible pun based around a terrible movie.

I guess it makes sense to only bring back one of them, because the nature of the show and how the location seems to be set in just New York. Having another set of 4 talking reptiles in the same town is getting… crowded?
Is that… Vanilla Ice?
I'm... really not sure how to feel about them drudging up that part of their history.
Apparently unironically.

Yeah they went there
That commercial is pretty old now, I think.

I thought I posted that somewhere before but I can't remember where.
First reviews are ticking in, if people are interested in learning more about the plot. As far as I can see, we've got yet another blockbuster with
! a hunt for Magic Blood on our hands.
And appearantly
! The turtles used to be Aprils pets, and she was the one who freed them to the sewers during the lab-fire that allegedly killed her dad.
Reading the first few reviews, the general consensus seems to be "meh."
Although I think this is a great quote from Variety:
Through it all, it’s hard to avoid the sense that Bay, Liebesman and company are hitting all the iconic beats of the franchise, but not investing them with the sort of cleverness, gravitas or feeling that would allow this movie (and presumably, the two sequels in store) to coast along on something other than fan loyalty. Part of that is due to the appearance of the Turtles themselves: For all the undeniable sophistication of Industrial Light & Magic’s motion-capture system — which required the actors to wear skin-hugging body suits and helmets equipped with tiny high-def cameras — the push toward a more photorealist design has led to strangely off-putting and unapproachable results. They may look more hulking, more grotesque and certainly more like the products of advanced genetic mutation, but they also lack a certain engaging, intangible quality that Jim Henson’s rubbery-looking ’90s creations, though of an inferior technological grade, had in abundance. You might as well call it soul, and without it, any deeper viewer connection to these Turtles remains firmly at bay.
It's only gotten a few RT reviews and is hitting around 50%….
unfortunately, the original movie ALSO hit around that mark, for whatever reason.... mostly from reviews made in 2003. What the hell.
