FOREVER WAR - now it depends on YOU!

Friends! Like most folks visiting this page, I am a huge fan of Archie Comics’ TMNT Adventures series. It is no secret that this comic book was cancelled back in the nineties (1995, to be precise). Many of us have heard about something called “Forever War”, a mysterious story arc we all were dreaming about after its very first announcement in the latest issues of TMNT Adventures. Unfortunately, the story never made it to the printed page because of the series’ cancellation.

However, in 2009 Steve Murphy, creator of the series, has announced that “Forever War” is going to be released under the aegis of Mirage Studios. Despite the fact that he had been working on it for quite some time, it was decided that the story had to be totally rewritten and redrawn. It was supposed to be the one, true finale for the TMNT Adventures universe. Alas, the TMNT rights were sold to another party leaving fans devastated by the second cancellation.

And now, after 10 years of emptiness, our hope is returning and it will finally be rewarded! The thing is, my dear friends, that we have at our disposal all EXISTING ORIGINAL material of “Forever War“, right out of 1995! And it’s FORTY pages long, 2 complete issues out of 5!

But that’s not all! We’ve finished this story and gave it a spectacular ending using everything we had. Not a single page was left out, not a single dialogue perished! The story is naturally embedded into the Archieverse and it explains EVERY SINGLE incomplete plot thread, which had existed since the dawn of the series!

Moreover, the incredible Chris Allan has agreed to finish this story with his own hands – he will illustrate this story from beginning to end!

We are the team that brought you the TMNT Volume 3 Conclusion, “Odyssey” and “Origin,” all created in participation with the Mirage Studios legends: Kevin Eastman, Jim Lawson, Frank Fosco, Dan Berger, A.C. Farley, Rick Arthur, Rick McCollum, Bill Anderson, Will Tupper, Andres Ponce and many others! We also created a variety of TMNT fan comic not related to the Mirage or Archie universes.

The Pluto tv app added Totally Turtles, which is a channel that airs TMNT 24/7 (Currently they only had been airing TMNT 2003 and TMNT 2012). Earlier today I caught some late season 2 episodes of TMNT 2003 (it was the Rouge in the House 2 parter). It remind me how much I enjoyed TMNT 2003.

Those things are so detailed they even got Raph's face scar. Which I didn't even know was a thing until I saw it on the figure.

Amazon is currently having a digital sale on the IDW comics stuff, so I got the first onimbus of the current TMNT comics (Issues 1 - 12, The first mirco series, and the 30th anniversary issue). So far I'm really enjoying the series (I read up to issue 5 so far.). I like that we have an somewhat different origin story for the Turtles and Splinter. I like April was the one that named the Turtles in this version.

I've been buying the IDW hardcover collections for a few years now and they absolutely represent the best version of TMNT!

I hear only good things about the IDW run but I just… can't bring myself to get into another turtle run.

In my time I've done complete runs (yes literally every issue) of Mirage, Archie, Mirage 2.0, Image, Mirage 3.0, Dreamwave, 89 cartoon, 97 live action, 03 cartoon, 12 cartoon, multiple movies, the anime, the manga...

I love the turtles, they shaped who I am and got me into comics but even if the IDW version is the best one ever I've just had too many iterations in my life over the literal decades. (I don't even particularly like the Mirage versions much but it was decades of sunk cost by the end.))

I similarly am pretty done with new versions of Batman and Spiderman and Transformers and Sonic and whatnot. At some point you just want something entirely new and can't keep rehashing the old thing, no matter how good the team in charge.

That said I'm completely excited for that Russian team to finish up Forever War from the Archie comics. That's been so, so long in coming. They've finished... 4 out of 5 issues since I posted about it in.... 2019?

April was also announced for the Nickelodeon All Star Brawl. Its a damn good week for April ONeil in video games!

It looks like they're going a radically different route with the character, and really its been like 30 years, its more than fine to give them another try. How many other characters have been reinvented for every show and comic and been radically different each time? Including the leads, April, Casey, and Shredder? A lot of them have been in-name-only through the various reboots, so its fine.

Some of the images show it being very clearly seperate and severed. Maybe it's all locked into place after the fact and can't be changed later, but…

Its freaky at any rate and has basically zero relation to the old character.

Hey at least anyone who hasn’t gotten past the Dam level from the NES game now has the benefit of save states to help them so they can get past that and deal with the rest of the bullshit the game has waiting in the wings.

Did anyone catch the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie on Netflix?
Cause I just did.

And it whooped. So. Much. Ass.

Animation was as good as I'd heard, truly top tier 2D stuff, and I loved how friggin ALL OUT it went in terms of scale, spectacle, emotion, the works. I haven't watched the TV series which I knew was divisive and I wasn't sure what to expect tonally, but this worked like gangbusters for me. The revamped personalities really popped, a lot of the jokes landed, the Krang were TERRIFYINGLY GNARLY, holy moly what a ride. Highly recommended.

Up. It's a great movie. Rise has some of the best kinetic 2D animated fight scenes that I saw in years. Really great stuff. Hope the movie help get some traction for it be picked up for a S3 or at least another movie.

If this fight is your cup of tea, you will enjoy the heavy action episodes.
But the series has plenty of episodic comedic ones that are used to set the turtles personalities and some intercharacter conflicts.

I dove into the Rise of the TMNT Tv series after the movie and happilly reports that the show is a fucking BLAST. The animation is obviously still great, but these are just some extremely well done 10 minute escapades. You have all these things that use the established Turtle Things as springboards for fresh and funny ideas- we get to see Donnie and Mikey trying (and failing) to be hard as-nails repo men in order to get a model of a 50's Sci-fi serial car which then gets repurposed into the turtle tank, you get Raph and Leo butting heads - but over Leo mocking Raphs infatuation with wrestling, or Raph eating the paper salami of Leonardos impromptu paper store. It's just throwing so many ideas so fast, and it really works, and the characters really pop - I've never found them so distinct, so endearing, so funny in their own ways, that still play off of their preceding identities. Leonardo may not be the nominal leader, but he's the sharpwitted one who can whip up a quick plan, while also being a bit of an attention hog. Raph may be the nominal leader, but he's still a big tough bruiser to whom planning isn't a strong suit, and he butts heads with his bros - here it's just often because he tries to keep them in line as heroes. Mikey is the optimistic, artistic, creative one, and Donnie wants some uranium for the lair and flat out refuses to get a mystic weapon.

It's a wild swing from it's predecessors but it's a swing that REALLY works; If there must be endless do-overs of existing IP instead of wholly new big-budget creations, the best we can hope for is fresh takes such as this, that aren't hampered by misplaced notions of being "reverent" or "respectful" to the source material (Ie. minimal risk, maintaining things in amber exactly as they were forever and ever). Making an absolutely kickass, fun, gorgeously animated version of the property is being proper "respectful", regardless of whether or not Splinter is a chubby couch potato, who takes the new turtle tank for a joyride, and then a villain abducts the clueless splinter with the intention of eating him, but then Splinter ends up using the villain to flee the turtles to dodge the repurcussions from a furious Donatello for stealing the Turtle Tank in a show-stopping action scene...

Ahem. I think this show is a lot of fun.

Just watched the Rise of TMNT movie. Yeah, definitely a lot of fun. Has some really frantic kinetic energy that kinda reminds me of Gurren Lagann (there's even a big drill attack at the end). The movie does seem to incorporate some lore from the show that I think would've made more sense if I had actually seen it, but I was still able to follow the story and action okay. Also surprised by how intense it got, both in terms of the villains, who provided some genuinely scary/freaky moments, and the sheer heartfelt emotions between the main cast. I also loved the line "If this isn't the poster, someone's getting fired".

So yeah, good time, though I'm not sure if I liked it enough to watch the TV show.

@pariston_hill I hd no idea who or what this was referring to, but now I do, and it was pretty fun.

I've just made it into the second season, and this show still is a rip roaring good time. Sometimes the "jokes above all" priority can leave the worldbuilding a little wonky, but at its best this sings like nothing Turtles related I've ever seen before. And of course, it remains an insane feast to look at, seriously One Punch Man season 1 level at times. It breaks my heart that this got dismissed so thoroughly and cut so short because Raph was the leader and Splinter was chubby or whatever. Raph is extremely loveable and the Turtles' interplay is great, and Splinter gets to have the meatiest character arc and be as ass-kicking as ever, while also being frequently hilarious

I'ts gonna be a tonal whiplash going back to Gargoyles again after this, but at the moment I'm basically just mainlining this show and nothing else

People can deal with Raph being leader. But those designs, man. Those designs are offputting and rough to look at.

I'm sure the animation is great and fluid, and it may be super funny, but when the actual character designs are just... ehh... its hard to look past that and give something a chance.

But it tends to get glowing reviews from those that actually watch it and it looks like the fights are super kinetic So... chalk it up to the character designs.

@Robby What can I say it's a subjective thing, but the designs being so distinct, and so indicative of the turtles revamped personalities is a net positive for me. I'm going to have a hard time going back to Raph not being a giant burly alligator turtle after this. And it's not just the fights, the general posing of them is always super dynamic and interesting to look at, and they're just so expressive - this just has an energy that more locked-in character models (of CG-based shows especially) can't match, it's kind of old-school in that way.

@Johnny-B-Decent The show leads deliberately into this, as a lot of Raphs plans boil down to "we smash ourselves in, smash the enemies, and keep smashing until we have the target in our smashy hands!". He's not particularly good at it, but he's the most motivated to actually go do missions aboveground and be a hero. Conversely Leo is the one who oftentimes has the plan and the savvyness that saves the day, he's just more arrogant and self aggrandizing...which the movie in particular really dives into.

I love the show's character designs! They are great in hammering home the tone of the show and gives a lot of style to the turtles. The only past interactions I've seen of them were the SNES games and 90s movies so it feels fresh to me.
