2009 One Piece Moviegoers to Get Manga Vol. 0 in Japan!

Japanese moviegoers who see this year's One Piece Film Strong World will receive the "0th volume" of Eichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga. Oda launched his manga about the young pirate captain Monkey D. Luffy in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine 12 years ago in 1997, but the manga in the upcoming "One Piece Kan-Zero" bonus gift will depict the world of One Piece from 20 years ago. Oda was a junior high school student 20 years ago when he conceived of the earliest concepts of the pirate manga that would eventually become One Piece.

Twenty years ago and the fact that it's coming out with the 10th Movie almost certainly means that it's about Kinjishi escaping from Impel Down. So it's going to be quasi-canon at best.

Probably the only thing from the movie that will actually be a part of the story is Kinjishi himself and none of what happens during it so yeah.

I am a little curious about how exactly he escaped Impel Down and stuff shown during that time. Like if Magellan was the warden that far back, and if so, were characters like Shiryu any different from how they are now.

Update 2: According to Comic Natalie, the volume will be limited to the first 1.5 million moviegoers. The volume's story will link to the story of the film, and it will include the materials that Oda drew for the movie.

For Shueisha to give out a 210-page comic for free would be…well it would be insane. Plus I can't imagine Oda actually making a comic THAT LONG just for this. I'm expecting something along the size of GT Perfect Files, IF that.

Also no mention of the time of the comic in JUMP, simply that it will relate to the film. The rest of the material will be sketches comments and diagrams from Oda for the film. As he's made over 100 sketches, I imagine they'll be the brunt of the content.

Agreed. Nonetheless, giving out something the size of a GT Perfect File for free is still pretty sweet. I can't imagine the manga wouldn't be about the whole Kinjinshi escape, which is canon

Oda probably didn't have time to draw a cover, so they might as well use the Oda-drawn movie poster I guess. It's too bad it kinda has nothing to do with the story inside of the book, but I still like it.

Chances seem slim to none but it's out there nevertheless. I'm far more optimistic regarding the Nagoya showing that I applied for but either way I'll be seeing it the morning of December 12th and will try to get rear seats so I can get video of it.
