i like yaguchi mari but this song definitely doesnt fit with the opening. but even if it did fit the story the opening was displaying, i would still want a different song because it's just a little too pop-ey for one piece right now ;o

It's driving me nuts how this song could possibly be chosen as a One Piece opening with its children's educational programming rythm.

I am completely disappointed with whomever was associated with this decision at Fuji Television.

Amazed by its level of terribleness, I checked out who was responsible and it turns out it's those Hexagon people huh?

I think I've finally realized what terrifying influence Shimada-san holds.

Now, I'm not one to shit all over an opinion.

But there's obviously something missing here.

Knowledge.

Before I stepped foot in Japan I thought Morning Musume and Two-Mix were the shit. Seeing as how they were featured in Japanese cartoons (which of course ALL Japanese people like by virtue of them being Japanese right?) I figured everyone would love Morning Musume songs and know who Two-Mix was.

As it turns out, despite their initial popularity, Morning Musume became an otaku-driven machine and no one knows who the fuck Two-Mix is because no one besides otaku give a shit about what voice actor sings what song or how many series they've done.

That is to say, I liked what I thought was an image. When I learned that nobody really listened to that stuff besides men who never marry and visit maid cafes ritualistically, I came to realize what image I was associating myself with was that of a

LOSER

Now, it's important to like what you like, because YOU enjoy it. We all have guilty pleasures. I still enjoy listening to early Morning Musume and Two-Mix. But I don't go praising it like some amazing testament to Japanese superiority. By living here, over time you come to see what certain kinds of popular culture go together and this is one of those cases.

As the above poster suggested, the chorus and lyrics associated with this song are almost exclusively used in children's educational programming. We're talking the equivalent of Sesame Street. And if we're talking anime, it's on the same level as Nintama Rintaro which is for pre-schoolers on the educational programming segment of NHK's afternoon line-up.

It's essentially like you saying the theme song to Sesame Street makes a bitchin' anime OP.

So while it's fine whether you like the song or not, simply realize that what you enjoy, is something that over here, is associated with something entirely different and is a disgrace to the series, especially at this point.

This episode was my second OPP I've listened to and that was amusing Thank you guys for hard work!

I wanted to say that I actually enjoy the opening, much. Yeah, song may not be great at all by the preforming and lyrics, but I find it absolutely amusing how they used it now. That zeig-heil with YAY! just makes me wanna roll over on the floor everytime I see it XD And I don't know how about you guys, but I think Oda made his best to make Impel Down look like circus fool of clowns. Yeah, there were serious moments, but it was that for most of the time. Ace-rescue-arc is far from being as angsty as Robin-rescue-arc.

Moving on, I wanted to note that you failed and confused Mantricores for Spinx in the opening XD Same with Inazuma and Ivankov, but that was noticed in the podacast.
About the fall down scene of the opening, I'm not 100% sure, but I belive it was done by Naoki Tate, and altough style is similar, Movie 6 was done by completely different people.

And about **Strong World P.O.P.**s, there seemed to be a confusion, but there are actually 11 figures coming out, not 9 ( one version of each strawhat in a suit + casual Zoro and Chopper (with casual Chopper having special gray painting version))

But that was the best part ever! That 'Yeah' was perfectly timed for that to happen and made me laugh! haha Best part in the opening. haha

Still I like the song. The happy of it made it a bit over the top. Illsuited for what is about to happen but still a good opening.

Which makes me wonder. What comes first? The theme song or the theme animation?

Well you have to agree that Impel Down outfits are creary based after Nazi ones. And so is the salute~ The salut itself isn't a nazi symbol on it's own, but in this context it defenetly is.
My country was one of thouse who had suffered the most from Hitler and Co, yet I don't feel any grudge towards them making fun of it in the opening. I don't think anybody should, really.

Absolutely loved the animated color spreads, even the recently shown ice cream one.

At this point it's all in good fun (for the most part at least), we'll tone down the 12 discussion as much as possible after this episode. Remember, if we get annoying on a certain topic we have a built in chapter feature. It's the greatest way to shut us up when we need shuttin' up, which I'm sure is often.

Al!na knows this by having interviewed the director and asking what inspired him to create such a scene that's supposedly 'clearly based on Nazis' while elsewhere a mark easily confused with the very symbol of Nazism had to be removed entirely from the animation and even the comic itself. Suggesting that the director actually considered that while an object that has jack to do with Nazism (but is easily miscontrued to be as such by foreigners who choose to see only what they want based on their own cultural biases hint hint) would be okay in one form, while unacceptable in another.

I guess we can also ignore that while the Japanese salute I suggested is actually identical in form to the one in the opening, the Nazi salute has the hand facing straight out.

Greg's such an ass for pointing out when people are applying their culture to something they don't understand. He couldn't possibly be attempting to show others that there's another way of looking at things outside our own cultural bubbles.

ocean made me realize this the hard way when it came to Zoro's attack, Rashomon.

Because I'm a film nut, all I could think about was Kurosawa's film and was sure that's how everyone would believe to be the main pun behind the attack.

Of course Oda's also a huge Kurosawa fan so I was doubly sure of myself.

And so I proclaimed that ocean must be wrong in his theory that most Japanese people would draw the connection to the otherwise, from our perpective, little known literary work dedicated to the titular gate.

And when I came to Japan and discussed that attack with everyone, what did they bring up? A film that we Western film nuts have studied to the point that it shows up in the Simpsons?

Thus far everyone I've spoken to related it to the literary work.
